Visual Information Management for Network Configuration
As the demand for LTE networks keeps on increasing day by day the necessity to improve the service with the current available infrastructure is one of the key measures to be taken into consideration. The initial configuration set up, the performance of the system once installed and the rectification of faults all play a major role in this process. This paper discusses the configuration, performance and fault management of eNodeBs in the current LTE environments and then a NetSim simulation based study is presented on the concept of coverage optimization considering relays. The throughput and delay is analyzed for various scenarios. Using relays is an option for overcoming coverage hole issue as proved in the paper.

Visual Information Management for Network Configuration
Network Traffic Analysis and SCADA Security
The problem of monitoring and characterizing network traffic arises in the context of a variety of network management functions. For example, consider the five functions defined in the OSI Network Management Framework [20.1], i.e., configuration management, performance management, fault management, accounting management and security management. Traffic monitoring is used in configuration management for tasks such as estimating the traffic demands between different points in the network, so that network capacity can be allocated to these demands. In performance management, traffic monitoring can be used to determine whether the measured traffic levels exceed the allocated network capacity, thus causing congestion or delays. When a fault occurs in the network, traffic monitoring is used in fault management to help locate the source of the fault, based on changes in the traffic levels through the surrounding network elements. In accounting management, traffic monitoring is needed to measure the network usage by each customer, so that costs can be charged accordingly in terms of the volume and type of traffic generated. Finally, network traffic monitoring can be used in security management to identify unusual traffic flows, which may be caused by a denial-of-service attack or other forms of misuse.

Read moreRADNET — A Network for Air Traffic Control
The air traffic over Europe shows a continuos increase in the number of flights both at a national and international level. At the same time the amount of available airspace, particularly around hot spots like airports, is naturally limited. Therefore computer supported surveillance and guidance of aircraft becomes more and more important in order to provide for an adequate security level. The RADNET is a pan-European service based on a computer network for the realtime distribution of radar related data. A European standard, ASTERIX, is used as a common format for data exchange. As RADNET has to satisfy particularly strong requirements in terms of reliability and availability the system design uses fault tolerance methods at different levels. Filtering techniques and priority schemes are used to bound the amount of network traffic. A network management subsystem handles configuration, performance and fault management.

Read moreManaging the management communications network in optical transport systems
Management of today's optical transport networks typically includes some or all of fault, configuration, accounting, performance, and security (FCAPS) management. Carrying this management information across the network requires the presence of a management communications network (MCN), also referred to as the data communications network (DCN). The MCN itself needs FCAPS management. The availability of management for the MCN is very sparse in today's management systems, and this paper is a first step towards addressing the problem. We describe algorithms for planning, designing, and analyzing the MCN. Central to these algorithms is a graph representation of the entire network. Our treatment views the management of the MCN as an extension of the management of the transport network. We envision this work as the basis for a suite of applications that can improve the management of the communications infrastructure in optical transport networks.

On the road to the sixth generation of cellular networks (6G), the need to ensure a sustainable usage of natural resources, amid increased competition and cost pressures, has driven the adoption of Self-Healing Mobile Networks to enhance operational efficiency of current and future wireless networks. This paradigm shift relies on Artificial Intelligence (AI) to increase automation of network functions, notably by applying predictive fault detection and automatic root-cause analysis. In this context, this paper proposes a Deep Learning (DL) model for self-healing operations based on a Spatial Graph Convolutional Neural Network (SGCN), which is applied to evaluate the performance degradation of Base Stations (BSs) and uncover the underlying root-causes. The advantages of the proposed DL model are threefold. Firstly, it is especially suited for wireless network applications, leveraging the SGCN to account for spatial dependencies among BSs and their physical characteristics. Secondly, the proposed model offers the flexibility to process diverse types of predictive features, including Performance Management (PM), Fault Management (FM), or other data types. Thirdly, it incorporates an explainability module that pinpoints the input features, such as PM counters, with the most significant influence on BS performance, thereby shedding light on its root-cause factors. The proposed model was evaluated on a live 4G network dataset and the results confirmed its effectiveness in identifying BS performance degradation. An F1-score of 89.6% was achieved in the classification of performance failures, which includes a 27% reduction in false negatives compared to prior research outcomes. In a live network environment, this reduction translates into substantial improvements in Quality of Experience (QoE) for the end users and cost savings for the Mobile Network Operators (MNOs).
Read moreDesign of Element Management System for EPON
Element Management System (EMS) is a system to manage network element (NE) for Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON). This allows the user to manage all the features of each network element (NE) individually. Network element (NE) exposes one or more management interfaces that the EMS uses to communicate with and to manage them. EMS has been design to fulfill FCAPS criteria which consist of fault management, configuration management, accounting management, performance management and security management. EPON is an emerging access network technology that provides a low-cost method of deploying optical access lines between a carrier’s central office and a customer site. EPON build on the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) standard G.983 for asynchronous transfer mode PON (APON) and seek to bring to life the dream of a full-services access network (FSAN) that delivers converged data, video, and voice over a single optical access system.

Read moreMultiperiod planning of optical protection schemes
Multiperiod planning provides cost efficient solutions for long-term operated networks by taking time dependent input into account. To ensure the operation of the network services, even in the event of a failure, the implementation of resilience methods (fault management) is considered. In this paper two different schemes of protection and their suitability for multiperiod operated networks are studied. Benefits are expected by adapting protections schemes which can evolve over time (configuration management). Thus, we compare Shared Backup Path Protection with 1+1 Protection using two different multiperiod approaches, Incremental planning for an upper bound and End-of-Life planning for a lower bound of the network costs.

This study aims to analyze the effects of budget participation (BP) on managerial performance (MP) through serial mediation of psychological empowerment (EP) and creativity (CT). The relationship between BP and MP motivates researchers to investigate intermediate variables to understand whether BP improves performance. This study fills this gap in examining PE and CT. CT and PE are critical factors for organizations’ success in the current business environment, characterized by rapid changes and high competitiveness. While PE creates an environment conducive to expressing CT, in turn, CT allows organizations to innovate and adapt to change, leading to a better MP. BP emerges as an effective strategy for promoting a more empowered and creative work environment, which, in turn, indirectly impacts MP. A survey was conducted with 267 companies listed on the Brazilian stock exchange B3 S.A. To test the hypotheses, we used partial least squares structural equation modeling, and additional analysis with importance-performance map analysis (IPMA). The results indicate that BP influences PE, which in turn boosts CT and, finally, CT positively affects MP. This study contributes to the literature by integrating PE and CT in analyzing the relationship between BP and MP. Regarding management implications, it is suggested that managers can leverage BP as a strategy to promote employees' PE and CT, aiming to improve MP.
