This paper investigates the event-triggered model predictive control of positive systems with actuator saturation. Interval and polytopic uncertainties are imposed on the systems, respectively. First, a new model with actuator saturation obeying Bernoulli distribution is established, which is more general and powerful for describing the saturation phenomenon than the saturation in a deterministic way. Then, a linear event-triggering condition is constructed based on the state and error signal. Under the event-triggering condition, an interval estimate approach is presented to reach the positivity and stability of the systems. The saturation part in the controller is technically transformed into a non-saturation part. Thus, a linear programming approach is proposed to compute the event-triggered controller gain and the corresponding gain of attraction domain. A predictive algorithm is introduced for the computation of the event-triggered controller parameters. Finally, an example is provided to illustrate the validity of the design.

This paper mainly researches the synchronization issue of discrete-time recurrent neural networks (DTRNNs) with time-varying delay based on event-triggered control (ETC). ETC can effectively decrease the quantity of controller updates performed and the utilization of communication resources. By using Lyapunov–Krasovskii functional (LKF), Schur complement lemma, discrete time free weight matrix method, linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) and other analytical methods, the stability conditions of the error system are deduced. Accordingly, a class of event-triggered state feedback controllers is designed. Finally, through two numerical examples with simulations, the effectiveness of the controller is verified.

This paper addresses periodic event-triggered output-feedback control (PETOFC) and event-triggered state-feedback control (ETSFC) for polynomial systems modeled by a linear-like representation with state-dependent coefficients. Periodic event-triggering evaluates conditions at fixed intervals, preventing Zeno behavior, while state-feedback control guarantees a minimum inter-event interval. Stability is analyzed using linear matrix inequalities. Under the proposed event-triggered controllers and using the sum-of-squares programming, the asymptotic stability of the closed-loop systems is ensured. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed controllers are illustrated through two numerical examples.

This article investigates the problem of path following for the underactuated unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) subject to state constraints. A useful control algorithm is proposed by combining the backstepping technique, adaptive dynamic programming (ADP), and the event-triggered mechanism. The presented approach consists of three modules: guidance law, dynamic controller, and event triggering. First, to deal with the "singularity" problem, the guidance-based path-following (GBPF) principle is introduced in the guidance law loop. In contrast to the traditional barrier Lyapunov function (BLF) method, this article converts the USV's constraint model to a class of nonlinear systems without state constraints by introducing a nonlinear mapping. The control signal generated by the dynamic controller module consists of a backstepping-based feedforward control signal and an ADP-based approximate optimal feedback control signal. Therefore, the presented scheme can guarantee the approximate optimal performance. To approximate the cost function and its partial derivative, a critic neural network (NN) is constructed. By considering the event-triggered condition, the dynamic controller is further improved. Compared with traditional time-triggered control methods, the proposed approach can greatly reduce communication and computational burdens. This article proves that the closed-loop system is stable, and the simulation results and experimental validation are given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Robust guaranteed cost control of uncertain fuzzy systems under time-varying sampling

The precise control of the spatiotemporal process in a roller kiln is crucial in the production of Ni-Co-Mn layered cathode material of lithium-ion batteries. Since the product is extremely sensitive to temperature distribution, temperature field control is of great significance. In this article, an event-triggered optimal control (ETOC) method with input constraints for the temperature field is proposed, which takes up an important position in reducing the communication and computation costs. A nonquadratic cost function is adopted to describe the system performance with input constraints. First, we present the problem description of the temperature field event-triggered control, where this field is described by a partial differential equation (PDE). Then, the event-triggered condition is designed according to the information of system states and control inputs. On this basis, a framework of the event-triggered adaptive dynamic programming (ETADP) method that is based on the model reduction technology is proposed for the PDE system. A critic network is used to approach the optimal performance index by a neural network (NN) together with that an actor network is used to optimize the control strategy. Furthermore, an upper bound of the performance index and a lower bound of interexecution times, as well as the stabilities of the impulsive dynamic system and the closed-loop PDE system, are also proved. Simulation verification demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Event-triggered robust cooperative output regulation for a class of linear multi-agent systems with an unknown exosystem

This paper is concerned with the problem of event-triggered control for a networked discrete-time singular system. A novel event-triggered networked control scheme is proposed to save the limited network communication bandwidth. By using a delay system approach, a unified model of event-triggered control system is established. A new criterion is proposed in terms of strict linear matrix inequality (LMI) by using Lyapunov functional method, which guarantees the admissibility of the discrete-time networked singular system without resorting to decomposing the system matrices. A state feedback controller is then designed based on this criterion. Finally, a numerical example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Based on an event-triggered control strategy, the stabilization of a linear system with disturbance is the purpose of this article. In this article, we first introduce a newfangled event-triggered control with a linear diffusive term and discontinuous sign term. Then, a class of event-triggered conditions, whose threshold contains a constant term and a sampled state term, is provided for guaranteeing the stability of a disturbed linear system. The event could be directly triggered to change the control information by violating the event-triggered condition when packet losses during control information transmission are defaulting. This means that event-triggered control can markedly economize on resource waste and communication cost. In addition, the interexecution time, which is determined by the event-triggered condition, is proved to have a uniform positive lower bound to guarantee that Zeno behavior does not occur. In the presence of packet losses, we estimate the maximum allowable number of successive packet losses to maintain the desired performance of the system. Finally, the validity of the theoretical results is substantiated by an example.

This article investigates the adaptive fuzzy distributed optimal event-triggered (ET) control problem for high-order nonlinear multiagent (NMA) system under weight-unbalanced directed graph. An optimal signal generator with ET mechanism is first established to estimate optimization point and optimal network channel utilization between agents and neighbors. Second, since the ET mechanism is introduced in optimal signal generator, the first-order derivative of optimal virtual signals is not continuous at the trigger instant, a high-order filter is established to estimate high-order derivatives of optimal virtual signals. Based on the optimal signal generator with ET mechanism and high-order filter, an adaptive fuzzy distributed optimal ET control scheme is proposed by backstepping control design technology. It is shown that controlled NMA system is asymptotically stable and the global cost function is minimized. Finally, we apply the proposed distributed optimal ET control approach to marine surface vehicle systems, the simulation and comparison results verify its effectiveness.

This paper proposes a novel event-triggered (ET) adaptive neural control scheme for a class of discrete-time nonlinear systems in a strict-feedback form. In the proposed scheme, the ideal control input is derived in a recursive design process, which relies on system states only and is unrelated to virtual control laws. In this case, the high-order neural networks (NNs) are used to approximate the ideal control input (but not the virtual control laws), and then the corresponding adaptive neural controller is developed under the ET mechanism. A modified NN weight updating law, nonperiodically tuned at triggering instants, is designed to guarantee the uniformly ultimate boundedness (UUB) of NN weight estimates for all sampling times. In virtue of the bounded NN weight estimates and a dead-zone operator, the ET condition together with an adaptive ET threshold coefficient is constructed to guarantee the UUB of the closed-loop networked control system through the Lyapunov stability theory, thereby largely easing the network communication load. The proposed ET condition is easy to implement because of the avoidance of: 1) the use of the intermediate ET conditions in the backstepping procedure; 2) the computation of virtual control laws; and 3) the redundant triggering of events when the system states converge to a desired region. The validity of the presented scheme is demonstrated by simulation results.
