Exploring Students’ English-Speaking Ability Across Proficiency Levels

Traditional Islamic religious educational institutions, such as Islamic boarding schools, are one of the oldest educational institutions that have inspired the birth of various modern secular educational institutions in Muslim countries. However, over time, traditional Islamic boarding schools have been faced with a difficult choice, namely whether they should adapt to modernity or maintain their existence independently and separately from the outside world. This situation does not have a major impact on most Islamic boarding schools, because Islamic boarding schools are based in rural communities. On the other hand, the exclusive attitude of Islamic boarding schools also results in minimal political support to protect the interests of Islamic boarding schools so that they continue to exist. The relationship between Islamic boarding schools and political authorities often experiences ups and downs that sometimes harm Islamic boarding schools, even causing the closure of Islamic boarding schools. This article discusses the comparison of traditional Islamic boarding school education in Turkey and Indonesia and the ups and downs of the relationship between Islamic boarding schools and the ruling authorities in Turkey in the early days of the Republic and Salaf Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia during the New Order. There are several academic reasons underlying the importance of this theme. First, Islamic boarding schools in Turkey and Indonesia face similar challenges, namely a situation where political authorities do not recognize Islamic boarding schools as official educational institutions protected by the state. Second, both are managed independently and independently. Third, Islamic boarding schools in both countries are based on national nationalism and have the same scientific genealogical roots. This study uses a literature study method by relying on books, articles, and relevant books as references.

Background Adolescent girls are at risk for iron deficiency anemia (IDA) due to the higher demand of iron for growth and the loss of blood during menstruation. Consumption of foods containing iron that have higher bioavailability can reduce the risk of IDA although diets that are largely plant-based, like those consumed by many Sundanese people, may not contain sufficient bioavailable iron. Here, we investigated the correlation between plant-based diets and IDA in adolescent Sundanese girls who were students at Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia. Methods A total of 176 girls from seven Islamic boarding schools in Tasikmalaya were recruited. Nutritional intake data were obtained using 24-hr dietary recall. Blood samples were analyzed with a Sysmex-XNL instrument to measure several parameters including hemoglobin, mean corpuscular volume (MCV), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH), and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC). Results The prevalence of IDA in the study population was 22.2%. Iron intake was 6.59 mg/day, which was lower than the recommended amount. The molar ratio of phytic acid to iron and vitamin C to iron was 8.72 and 0.03, respectively. There was a correlation between heme iron and both hemoglobin (p=0.009) and hematocrit (p=0.018). Iron from meat, fish, and poultry was correlated with hemoglobin (p=0.009) and hematocrit (p=0.011). Conclusion The Sundanese plant-based diet did not affect the IDA status. Instead, IDA was associated with consumption of less animal-based foods that have iron with higher bioavailability. Increased access to an animal-based menu at the school cafeteria could be an approach to prevent IDA in students at Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia.

This study aims to describe the character of the Islamic boarding school students (santri) and the inculcation of Islamic morality in the santri who are in the wrong Islamic boarding school in Indonesia, namely the Syaichona Moh Islamic Boarding School. Cholil Bangkalan is part of the contribution of Islamic boarding schools in building a developed and civilized country. This research was conducted with a qualitative descriptive approach with data collection methods: interviews, observation, and documentation. The analysis of Miles and Huberman models found that planting Islamic characters applied in the cottage is integrated with the obligations, prohibitions, and sanctions for those who break the rules. Efforts to instil this character are applied in students' religious activities (ubudiyah), pesantren, and school programs. Then from the efforts to teach the Islamic personality, students are formed religious education which is built on the vision and mission of the pesantren and is strengthened by all shoulder cuttings in the boarding school environment

This study aims to examine various strategies implemented by Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia in responding to global challenges. Using the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, to obtain data, researchers utilized the POP (Harzing's Publish or Perish) application and the Covidence application according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta Analyses (PRISMA) stages. There are 11 relevant articles out of 300 related articles. Based on the results of the analysis, it shows that the strategy implemented by Islamic boarding schools in responding to global challenges is by modernizing the curriculum through the integration of religious and general knowledge, including mastery of foreign languages ​​and practical skills such as digital literacy, leadership, and entrepreneurship. The instillation of religious moderation values ​​is strengthened to counter radicalism, while international cooperation and the use of digital media support globalization and da'wah. In addition, Islamic boarding schools also develop business units for economic empowerment and independence of students.

This study discusses a theoretical review of the implementation of Islamic boarding school curriculum management in Indonesia, based on the data that has been obtained, it can be concluded that Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia play an important role in the process of increasing the intelligence of productive age. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive analysis. Data collection techniques are carried out by literature review and literature study related to the management of the Islamic boarding school curriculum in Indonesia. Analysis of the data that has been collected is done by peeling, summarizing and collecting literature, so that it becomes a scientific research result. The results showed that of the thirty-four provinces in Indonesia there were 26,974 Islamic boarding schools and 12,668 educational units, with such a large number, the implementation of curriculum management is very important to do, novelty in this study it can be explained that planning, organizing, implementing, evaluating curriculum Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia have implemented the principles of modern management.

Riyadul Ulum Wadda’wah Islamic Boarding School is located in Condong RT / RW: 01/04 Setianegara Cibeureun District, Tasikmalaya City, or about 6 km from the city center of Tasikmalaya. This boarding school belongs to one of the oldest Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia because it was founded in 1864. Its founder is KH. Nawawi from Rajapolah. The Riyadul Ulum Wadda'wah Tasikmalaya Islamic boarding school has approximately 2300 santri students, who come from various regions in Indonesia. The general objective of the implementation of the Science and Technology program for Community Development (IbBM) is to empower the community to build institutional capacity while enhancing human resources through the Santri Data System (SIDASA) in the Tasikmalaya Riyadul Ulum Islamic Boarding School based on sustainable Science and Technology. Submission of information is delivered in 3 stages, namely training in the use of software, training / emphasis on data accuracy, training in infusing students' data into the SIDASA application. The conclusions in this research are science and technology service activities for Community Development (IbBM) especially in the Riyadul Ulum Islamic Boarding School Wadda’wah Condong can provide benefits and convenience for boarding school officials in recording santri data, and can improve human resources based on science and technology

Abstract
 
 Discussing about the role of Islamic boarding schools in the formation and development of education, especially Islamic education, in Indonesia is hardly debated and doubtful. Long before Indonesia's independence, this institution which was in charge of ulama (kyai) was present in the archipelago. The history that goes through shows that the pesantren is not only able to maintain the survival of the times, but also can take care of its development which continues to increase from time to time. According to available data, this institution was first established, especially in Java, in the 15th century by Maulana Malik Ibrahim (one of the oldest walisongo) and later developed by other walisongo. By the end of the 19th century, the number of Islamic boarding schools in Java had grown to 300, and based on the records of the Indonesian Ministry of Religion Islamic Boarding School Database, the number of Islamic Boarding Schools in 2018 was around 21,321. The survival and continuous development of the boarding school certainly cannot be separated from the scientific tradition developed which has a strong enough distinction. One of them is the transformative education pattern. This makes the pesantren not just a religious institution that is merely active in the world of religious education for the santri, but at the same time has a concern and active role together with the community in empowering themselves. These values ​​also did not escape the Al-Istiqomah Islamic Boarding School in Kebumen. This pesantren which is famous for its 'Arab Village' has more value which requires the Al-Istiqomah Islamic boarding school to be developed into an international standard education. This internationalization is important to be put forward, in addition to developing and strengthening the quality of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia and in Kebumen in particular, Internationalization will also be the biggest contribution to the development and strengthening of its own academic community. It will also make Islamic boarding schools play a greater role in making concrete contributions to global life.

Islamic boarding schools have financial weaknesses. Generally, Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia do not understand about the aspects of financing. Islamic boarding schools itself are required to manage financing aspects in order to achieve their goals effectively. There is a fact in Al Ittifak Islamic boarding school Ciwidey in Bandung Regency that it can manage aspect of social agribusiness entrepreneurship-based financing so that Islamic boarding school got national recognition from the Government. This research was formulated in the research question as follows: How is the analysis of cost requirements, cost calculation, cost allocation, and cost budget distribution on the Islamic boarding school based on social agribusiness entrepreneurship at Al Ittifak Islamic boarding schools Ciwidey, Bandung Regency? This study aims to explore and describe the needs analysis, calculation, allocation and financing distribution based on social agribusiness entrepreneurship Al Ittifak Islamic Boarding School Ciwidey Bandung Regency. This research is expected to contribute significantly to provide management solutions of financing aspects at Islamic boarding school based on social agribusiness entrepreneurship. This study used a qualitative approach and case study as the method. This type of research includes interdisciplinary research, namely Islamic Boarding School financing and agribusiness research. Data sources were extracted from a number of respondents kiyai, ustad and ustadzah, santri, farmers, managers of pesantren cooperative and a number of community leaders. The results of the study concluded that the Al Ittifak Islamic Boarding School Ciwidey managed aspects of Islamic Boarding School financing through the implementation of needs analysis, calculation, allocation, and distribution of social agribusiness entrepreneurship - based Islamic Boarding School financing (agriculture, vegetables and livestock).

As one of Indonesia’s traditional Islamic education institutions that grow out of society’s needs, Islamic boarding schools generally have not had many discussions regarding the environment. The present paper aims to describe the existing environmental condition regarding the level of understanding of the students within an Islamic boarding school regarding environmentally friendly culture, programs and activities. Secondly, to establish if social interventions carried out by the government related to the development of environmentally friendly culture can support the realization of environmental quality improvement. This research was conducted in two Islamic boarding schools in West Java and North Sulawesi Provinces; Al Ittifaq Ciwidey Islamic Boarding School, Bandung, West Java Province, and Assalaam Manado Islamic Boarding School in North Sulawesi Province. Each was chosen to represent the regions of West Indonesia (Pesantren Al Ittifaq) and East Indonesia (Pesantren Assalaam). The data collected consisted of primary data and secondary data. The scope of the data to be collected included aspects related to the effort to create an Islamic boarding school that is environmentally friendly. In practice, this study used several data analysis methods, including a review of literature, descriptive analysis, and focused discussions. The strategy of social intervention in the form of Eco-Pesantren programs carried out by the government can be a formula for developing environmentally friendly Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia regarding sustainability. One of the critical aspects of developing an environmentally sound Islamic boarding school is the integration of the principles of environmental awareness and sustainability into the curriculum.

The aims of this research is to find out what steps or actions were taken by the managers of ‎Pondok Tahfidz Yanbu'ul Qur'an Menawan Kudus in Implementation Islamic boarding ‎schools during the Covid-19 Pandemic. This research is use field research (field research) with ‎a qualitative approach in research method. Data collection techniques using observation, ‎interviews and documentation. Data processing uses triangulation both techniques, time, and ‎sources.‎ From the research process can be seen that in order to implement the operational ‎standards of a boarding school during this pandemic, Islamic boarding schools need to ‎prepare and fulfill many things, ranging from infrastructure, human resource management, ‎until operational management. All steps or actions taken by the manager are aimed at making ‎the implementation of the boarding school run well and meeting the existing health protocol ‎standards. Of course, this all requires the role and cooperation of all parties involved in it. ‎With this research, it is hoped that it will be able to become a consideration for Islamic ‎boarding schools in Indonesia in organizing learning that appropriate with health protocols ‎that have been determined by the government.‎

Islamic boarding school is one of the educational institutions in Indonesia as a means of learning Islam. Every Islamic boarding school in Indonesia has a different growth. The growth in the needs of Islamic boarding schools is strongly influenced by the number of new students enrolling, so it is necessary to plan and analyze the growth of the needs of Islamic boarding schools as a determinant of planning for further handling. This study aims to determine the growth of existing facilities in the boarding school in the specified operational standards. The stages of this research are knowing the history of Islamic boarding schools to determine the initial formation until they become qualified boarding schools, then we can draw a chart using Graphs to see the growing needs of each period. In the calculation, the AHP (Analytical Hierarchy Process) method also has a role to analyze the value generated from the Graph calculation as a benchmark for each growth period, so as to produce growth charts of the needs of Islamic boarding schools in each period. From this research, it can be used to actualize further business architecture.

The objective of this research describes the method of lecturers to teach problem-solving skills. Problem-solving skills is one of the skills needed in the 21st-century learning. Generally, Islamic boarding schools tend to use classic methods such as recitation, Bandongan, Sorogan. The study is survey research. It is a case study at the Islamic boarding school of Jagad ‘Alimussirry in the second semester of the academic year 2016/2017. Students live in Islamic boarding schools every day. The data were obtained through questionnaires and observations. Questionnaires were consisting of 12 items with a statement of Rosenberg's self-esteem scale. It’s given to the 46 students and five lecturers after learning. The respondents were randomly chosen. The study also conducted observations at the time of learning in 5 courses. Two observers made the observations. The results showed that the problem-solving skills had been taught with a "good enough" category. The learning method is discussion, exercise, and modeling. It is done with 5 phases of problem-solving. The findings are three methods to teach problem-solving skills in the Islamic boarding school. It is a discussion, exercise, and modeling with five problem-solving phases and six learning schemes. Therefore, this study can be used as consideration for education practitioners on how to teach problem-solving skills in Islamic boarding schools. Indonesia has 28 thousand Islamic boarding schools. In addition, this becomes a frequent correction to repair the learning of problem skills in Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia.

The dynamics of Islamic boarding schools in Indonesia have experienced rapid development. Now, Islamic boarding schools are not only synonymous with religious educational institutions, but they are also expected to contribute to the economic life of the people. The aim of this research is to analyze the role of Islamic boarding schools in efforts to empower the people's economy. This research is a literature study that uses a qualitative descriptive approach. This research found that Islamic boarding schools have sufficient resources and capital to serve as a basis for economic empowerment of the community. With these resources and capital, Islamic boarding schools can carry out various activities oriented towards the economic empowerment of local people. This research uses qualitative research with a library approach. The results of this research are that in practice the community empowerment program carried out by Islamic boarding schools still uses the old system, namely not the digital system which is currently being developed in society, but what is carried out by Islamic boarding schools can be in direct contact with the community so that it remains in accordance with vision and mission of an Islamic boarding school that upholds the principle of mutual help.
