Final Program

Midwifery emergencies can be managed by providing effective and quality care through a skilled workforce. Improving the quality of midwifery care requires the professional development of midwives, especially those who are novice, to maintain their capabilities and enhance their performance. This study was designed to develop a professional development program in the management of midwifery emergencies for midwifery graduates. This mixed-method study was conducted in two phases. In the first phase, a qualitative study was conducted to investigate the program needs, facilitators, and barriers to the management of midwifery emergencies in midwifery graduates. Further, the initial version of the program was developed based on the results of the qualitative study and literature review. The Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation (ADDIE) model was used to develop a professional development program for the management of midwifery emergencies. The developed program was then evaluated and approved by a panel of experts. In the second phase, the developed professional development program is implemented, and its impacts are evaluated. Finally, the final professional development program in the management of midwifery emergencies for midwifery graduates is provided. In total, 2,360 primary codes were extracted and merged into 210 codes. After extracting the sub-categories and categories, a review of the texts was conducted, and the final program was developed. Using a professional development program for newly graduated midwives is an effort to improve the health of mothers and infants who receive these services.

Freivalds defined an acceptable programming system independent criterion for learning programs for functions in which the final programs were required to be both correct and “nearly” minimal size. i.e.. within a computable function of being purely minimal size. Kinber showed that this parsimony requirement on final programs limits learning power. However, in scientific inference, parsimony is considered highly desirable. Alim-computable functionis (by definition) one calculable by a total procedure allowed to change its mind finitely many times about its output. Investigated is the possibility of assuaging somewhat the limitation on learning power resulting from requiring parsimonious final programs by use of criteria which require the final, correct programs to be “not-so-nearly” minimal size, e.g., to be within a lim-computable function of actual minimal size. It is shown that some parsimony in the final program is thereby retained, yet learning power strictly increases. Considered, then, are lim-computable functions as above but for whichnotations forconstructive ordinals are used to bound the number of mind changes allowed regarding the output. This is a variant of an idea introduced by Freivalds and Smith. For this ordinal notation complexity bounded version of lim-computability, the power of the resultant learning criteria form finely graded, infinitely ramifying, infinite hierarchies intermediate between the computable and the lim-computable cases. Some of these hierarchies, for the natural notations determining them, are shown to be optimally tight.

Research examining factors contributing to online students’ success typically focuses on a single point in time or completion of a single course, as well as individual difference variables, such as learning style or motivation, that may predispose a student to succeed. However, research concerning longer term online student outcomes, such as graduation rates or how events occurring during matriculation may impact students’ progress, is lacking. Moreover, little is known about the factors that contribute to graduate psychology students’ successful completion of their online degree programs. This exploratory archival study uniquely focuses on data gathered from admissions files and the student information system to identify and examine possible factors contributing to students’ final program grade point average (GPA) and graduation rates in two distinct, fully online masters of psychology programs. Findings derived from chi-square tests and regression and logistic regression analyses indicate that placement on academic probation at any time during enrollment is associated with both lower final program GPA and a decreased probability of graduation. Prior graduate school experience and taking a leave of absence (LOA) were also associated with lower probability of graduation, whereas failing any course during matriculation was associated with a lower final program GPA. Implications include identifying students who fail any course, take an LOA, and/or are placed on academic probation as “at risk,” and proactively connecting with them to provide tailored advisement and resources to support their continued matriculation.

This is a summary booklet of the main report: Hanford Site Groundwater Monitoring for Fiscal Year 2005. It is the summary section of the main report with a CD of the entire report included. The main report is one of the major products and deliverables of the Groundwater Remediation and Closure Assessment Projects detailed work plan for FY 2006, and reflects the requirements of The Groundwater Performance Assessment Project Quality Assurance Plan (PNNL-15014). This report presents the results of groundwater and vadose zone monitoring and remediation for fiscal year 2005 on the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hanford Site, Washington. The most extensive contaminant plumes in groundwater are tritium, iodine-129, and nitrate, which all had multiple sources and are very mobile in groundwater. The largest portions of these plumes are migrating from the central Hanford Site to the southeast, toward the Columbia River. Carbon tetrachloride and associated organic constituents form a relatively large plume beneath the west-central part of the Hanford Site. Hexavalent chromium is present in plumes beneath the reactor areas along the river and beneath the central part of the site. Strontium-90 exceeds standards beneath all but one of the reactor areas. Technetium-99 and uranium plumes exceeding standards are present in the 200 Areas. A uranium plume underlies the 300 Area. Minor contaminant plumes with concentrations greater than standards include carbon-14, cesium-137, cis-1,2-dichloroethene, cyanide, fluoride, plutonium, and trichloroethene. Monitoring for the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act of 1980 is conducted in 11 groundwater operable units. The purpose of this monitoring is to define and track plumes and to monitor the effectiveness of interim remedial actions. Interim groundwater remediation in the 100 Areas continued with the goal of reducing the amount of chromium (100-K, 100-D, and 100-H) and strontium-90 (100-N) reaching the Columbia River. The objective of two interim remediation systems in the 200 West Area is to prevent the spread of carbon tetrachloride and technetium-99/uranium plumes. Resource Conservation and Recovery Act of 1976 groundwater monitoring continued at 25 waste management areas during fiscal year 2005: 15 under interim or final status detection programs and data indicate that they are not adversely affecting groundwater, 8 under interim status groundwater quality assessment programs to assess contamination, and 2 under final status corrective-action programs. During calendar year 2005, drillers completed 27 new monitoring wells, and decommissioned (filled with grout) 115 unneeded wells. Vadose zone monitoring, characterization, and remediation continued in fiscal year 2005. Remediation and associated monitoring continued at a soil-vapor extraction system in the 200 West Area, which removes gaseous carbon tetrachloride from the vadose zone. DOE uses geophysical methods to monitor potential movement of contamination beneath former waste sites.

Background: Increasing data demonstrate a gender gap in career progression in neurology including underrepresentation of women in high impact neurology journal authorship and American Academy of Neurology recognition awards. We examined gender differences in leadership roles at the International Stroke Conference (ISC) from 2014-2018. Methods: As a retrospective analysis of conference data, this study was exempt from review by the institutional review board. Names of program committee members, early career development leaders, award recipients, invited speakers, and moderators for those sessions were taken from the Final Program from the 2014-2018 ISC. Conference leader gender was determined by name inspection and internet search. In a few instances of ambiguity, common gender association of the name was used. Self-reported ISC attendance demographics were obtained through the American Heart Association (AHA). Chi square test or Fisher exact test was used to compare demographics of invited leadership with attendance. Results: Between 29.9% and 44.7% of conference attendees were women. Attendees who did not disclose gender increased from 7.38% to 33.02%. Female membership on the program committee increased from 14.3% in 2014 to 48.2% in 2018. Women represented a minority of invited speakers, moderators and award recipients across all years, however, there were increases in female representation over time (see table). Conclusions: Women are less likely than men to hold leadership positions at the ISC. This is significant as such opportunities can play a valuable role in networking and career progression. It is reassuring that this gender gap has been decreasing over time, however, the AHA and program committee may wish to consider additional strategies to narrow this gap.

This paper presents a fast and accurate method for programming simple strategies for small autonomous robots based on embedded processing platforms. There are several approaches in programming of mobile and industrial robots, but the most common one is online programming. This method begins with so called teaching phase during which human operator guides the robot by issuing a set of simple commands. All that commands are automatically logged and saved into a command log, which in the operation phase eventually serves as final program. In case of industrial robots, the whole process including teaching and operation phase runs on the same platform, usually PC, which by the rule has convenient user interface. On the other side, small embedded robot platforms do not have appropriate user interfaces and their programs must be written in the form of hard-coded precompiled firmware. This paper describes the architecture of the robot and supporting system which are designed in the way that support convenient usage of PC based software during development phase, and a fast and accurate method for translation of tested command sequence into the embedded platform firmware running the robot during the deployment phase.

Model-free Reinforcement Learning (RL) generally suffers from poor sample complexity, mostly due to the need to exhaustively explore the state-action space to find well-performing policies. On the other hand, we postulate that expert knowledge of the system often allows us to design simple rules we expect good policies to follow at all times. In this work, we hence propose a simple yet effective modification of continuous actor-critic frameworks to incorporate such rules and avoid regions of the state-action space that are known to be suboptimal, thereby significantly accelerating the convergence of RL agents. Concretely, we saturate the actions chosen by the agent if they do not comply with our intuition and, critically, modify the gradient update step of the policy to ensure the learning process is not affected by the saturation step. On a room temperature control case study, it allows agents to converge to well-performing policies up to 6–7× faster than classical agents without computational overhead and while retaining good final performance.

BackgroundOne of the most common complications of pregnancy and the third cause of maternal death is preeclampsia. Thus this group of mothers should be supported, trained and received efficient health care services. Home-care is one strategy to improvement complications of Pregnancy. In Iran, high-risk pregnancies care provide in health care centers, hospitals and clinics by midwives and obstetricians. In this mixed method study, at first, a qualitative approach will be used to identify preeclampsia mothers’ health needs and home-care strategies for them. Then, the qualitative results will be emerged with literature review and expert ideas to develop a comprehensive home-care program which fits with the needs of these mothers in Iran.MethodsThis study is a qualitative- quantitative mixed exploratory research that consists of three sequential phases. In the first step, in qualitative study, all the women with preeclampsia, obstetricians, midwives, and maternal health policy makers will select purposefully. Health care needs and home-care strategies for mothers with preeclampsia will be determined. Sampling continues until data saturation. In the second step, an expert panel will be formed to prioritization of home-care needs and strategies extracted from result of qualitative study and review of literature. Afterwards, Primary home care program will be designed. In the third step, Delphi method will be used of minimum 10–15 experts including: obstetricians, midwives, and reproductive health professionals about validation of this home-care program by questionnaires in three rounds, then the final program is being developed.DiscussionIt is expected conducting a mixed method study to develop a home care program mothers with preeclamsia to improve their health status and wellbeing while reducing additional health care costs through preventing excessive admissions and interventions. Moreover it wants to follow up properly and timely high risk pregnant women. This study might be helpful in improvement quality of health services and promote health equity.ConclusionDeveloping a home care program for maternal health care especially for high risk pregnancy by considering Iran socio-cultural context.

In this paper a method to control and teach industrial robots in real-time by human demonstration is presented. It aims to decrease down-times for reconfigurations and programming costs, particularly in a mass customisation manufacturing scenario. This system uses high-intensity visual markers that make it sufficiently robust for industrial environments not requiring special lighting. An automated camera calibration method was implemented which enables any non-skilled user a quick and easy configuration of the system. The teaching of the robot is achieved by recording the detected points and replaying them to the manipulator, therefore this is a “teaching-by-showing” method. The final program that the robot is uploaded with is a smooth trajectory calculated using all the recorded points, which are analised and grouped into different motion segments according to position and speed.
