Health and Safety Management System Audit Reliability Pilot Project

OHS is an activities to ensure and protect the safety and health of the workforce through prevention of occupational injuries and occupational diseases. One way of prevention of work accident is through to implement OHS System. The OHS process should begin with a good planning process to ensure that its implementation complies with the desired policies and objectives. PT. XYZ Medan has implemented OHS System which is regulated in the procedures and manuals of the company’s management system. The purpose of this study was to assess and evaluate the Occupational Safety and Health Management System and also to evaluate Hazard Identification in the company. This research uses checklist method of all assessment criteria of OHS management system based on Indonesian Government Regulation, and for application of OHS in company use qualitative data through spreading of quisioner to managers, supervisors and workers. Based on the result of observation, it is found that the implementation of OHS in the company is not fully complied with the Indonesian Government Regulation. There are still 24 unfulfilled criteria that is concerning policy, plan of OHS, document control, product control, work security, hazard inspection, material management, skills and abilities. This study resulted in the acquisition of the results of analysis in the achievement level of OHS is 92.2% and has been included in the satisfactory category so worthy to be certified and ranked the golden flag. And analysis of the implementation and implementation of OHS to the established principles has been above 50% and can be interpreted that OHS is considered important to be applied in the company.

The Occupational Health and Safety are factors and conditions that have a positive impact, promotes a safe and healthy working environment, and these issues among the companies give wellness to personnel, contractors, visitors and any other person in working places, and this is achieved with the help of managing risks in the workplace. In Mexico, the occupational health and safety factors have been treated individually to reduce accidents, insurance cost and increase performance of existing operations but these individual actions created confusion among Mexican manufacturing companies. The Social Prevention and Labor Secretary established a technical program in occupational health and safety management. Five steps are used to represent basic security scheme. On the other hand, the health programs deal with the identification of important alarms and the promotion of actions to eliminate them. These issues consider job environments as well as pandemic. In order to control both aspects, Mexican factories have created an Occupational Health Management System as well as a Safety Management System. The purpose of this research is to formulate a unique Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) using structural equation models (SEM) to help Mexican manufacturing companies to conduct their efforts. A survey was conducted with 14 items based on international occupational health and safety standards. This research questionnaire was applied to 32 certified manufacturing companies within Mexico. An exploratory and confirmatory factorial analysis was focused. With exploratory factorial analysis we could established the three main factors and their components and these three main factors were validated using the confirmatory factorial analysis. The three factors were: health and safety focus, occupational health and safety management system, and continuous improvement. The Tucker-Lewis Index obtained is equal to 0.999 which is higher that the recommended value of 0.90. Thus, the three main factors can be considered for a structural equation model. Some of the variables considered for the OHSMS were: risk control, corrective actions, planning, audits, education and training, etc. Using LISREL, a structural equation model was created to propose a valid OHSMS model for Mexican manufacturing companies to implement and benefit from good health and safety management in their facilities.

Occupational health and safety in hospitals is influenced by Occupational Safety and Health Management System or what is often called SMK3 which functions to regulate occupational safety and health in an industry or building. This research aims to analyze the relationship between inhibiting factors and the implementation of the occupational health and safety management system at the Royal Prima Medan Hospital. This research is an analytical survey research using a cross sectional study design carried out in June 2023. The sample in this research is all medical personnel who work in Royal Prima Medan Hospital, namely 121 people. The sample size is determined using the total population formula. Data were analyzed using the chi square test and logistic regression. The research results show that there is a relationship between HR quality, HR workload, HR work environment, wage levels and the rate of addition of new workers with the implementation of the occupational safety and health management system at the Royal Prima Medan Hospital. The most dominant variable related to the implementation of the occupational safety and health management system at the Royal Prima Medan Hospital is the wage level. It is recommended to the hospital that the results of this research can be used as input to improve and develop the level of occupational health and safety, especially for hospital workers, which can also indirectly improve the quality of service and work productivity of the hospital

Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) plays a crucial role in ensuring a safe work environment, especially in high-risk sectors like healthcare, where workplace accidents and disease exposure are common. This study aims to assess the implementation of OSH at Hospital X in Bandung City by analyzing its occupational safety management system according to Government Regulation No. 50 of 2012, with a focus on Indicator 6, which pertains to Work Safety Standards under the Occupational Safety and Health Management System (SMK3). The research method used a qualitative approach supported by quantitative data, with data collection through questionnaires, observations, and interviews. The respondents included OSH management staff and hospital visitors. The study’s findings indicate that the overall implementation of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) at Hospital X is categorized as good. This suggests that the hospital's risk control procedures are generally effective in minimizing potential workplace hazards. The hospital management’s perception of the OHS Management System (SMK3) implementation was positive, reflecting their commitment to ensuring a safe work environment. However, the assessment from visitors regarding the OSH implementation fell into the fairly good category, indicating room for improvement in certain areas, especially in terms of visitor awareness and involvement in the hospital’s safety measures. The results highlight the importance of continuous evaluation and improvement in implementing OHS standards, particularly in high-risk settings such as hospitals. Strengthening visitor education and engagement in OHS practices could further enhance the overall safety culture at the hospital. This study contributes valuable insights for improving OSH management systems and risk control strategies, ultimately aiming for a safer and healthier work environment for both hospital staff and visitors.

Colombia has some mandatory regulations for all companies, regardless their business area or their economic activity respect to Occupational Safety and Health. In this project, it was reported the results of the degree of implementation of the Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems (OSHMS) with regard to the level of obligation required by law. The data was collected from Social Security Institute survey-type instrument adapted by Autonomous University of Manizales experts; and validated through pilot testing. Throughout a convenience sampling, 26 companies in the metal/ mechanical industry of the South-central region of Caldas were evaluated. Small companies showed major gaps compared to the medium and large businesses in term of the degree of implementation of the Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems (OSHMS). Features related to compliance with the requirements of appointing staff, function assigning of the Joint Committee on Occupational safety and health, well established occupational safety and health policies, well defined spaces for first aid care; and high qualified staff to design, implement and maintain the system.

안전보건관리는 기업의 투명성, 생산성 및 경쟁력 확보를 위한 새로운 경영수단으로 인식되고 있고 안전보건 경영시스템(OHSMS;Occupational health and safety management system)의 인증은 경영 프로세스를 자극하여 기업의 경쟁력을 이끌어내는 핵심으로 그 비중이 커지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 안전보건 경영시스템의 활성화 전략을 수립하기 위하여 체계적이고 계량적인 분석기법의 하나인 SWOT/AHP를 이용하였다. 그 결과로서, 첫째, 근로자의 안전 친화적 기업 이미지의 브랜드화, 둘째, 경영성과와 연계 가능한 정량 지표화된 안전경영 시스템 인증 프로그램의 개발, 셋째, 안전 공감대를 형성하여 안전보건 경영시스템과 제품안전 경영시스템의 연계성 구축, 넷째, 산업 맞춤형 통합 인증시스템을 개발 등을 안전보건 경영시스템의 활성화 전략으로 제안할 수 있다. The Occupational health and safety is an important factor in the competitiveness of an enterprise. In this paper, activation strategies of OHSMS(Occupational health and safety management system) were systematically and quantitatively analyzed and suggested using SWOT/AHP(Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunity, Threat/Analytic Hierarchy Process) analysis. In these results, activation strategies of this system can be suggested as followings ; Making worker safety-friendly image of enterprise, developing the quantitative indices related to management results in accreditation programs of OHSMS, constructing the relationship between OHSMS and product safety management, and developing the customized integrated accreditation system.

The quality of education is significantly influenced by occupational health and safety (OHS) measures. To this end, a safety incident at a university could have far-reaching negative effects on facilitating teaching and learning for both lecturers and students. Although OHS standards are widely established in numerous industries, they are often overlooked in the academic setting. It is for this reason that, to date, research gap exists in OHS systems in academic settings. While universities primarily focus on education, they also pose significant health and safety risks to staff and students due to their design and setup. Effective implementation of an occupational health and safety management system (OHSMS) within universities can mitigate these risks. However, there is a notable lack of research focusing on the efficiency of OHSMS in South African universities. This study, therefore, aimed to fill this gap by assessing the efficiency of the OHSMS at a South African university. Data were collected using in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis qualitative research methods. Data analysis was carried out using the thematic analysis approach. Inductive logic was used in the interpretation of the current study results. This study highlights that while there is strong awareness of the OHS Act 85 of 1993 (>90%) among university staff, significant gaps exist in the communication and enforcement (5%) of OHS policy, alongside the poor communication of hazards and risks (30%). Amongst other challenges are infrastructure maintenance (>35%), as well as the lack of standard operation procedures (>5%). To address some of these setbacks, the current study recommends enhancing policy communication, conducting regular hazard assessments, increasing training participation, and improving documentation practices. These steps aim to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the university’s OHSMS, ensuring a safer environment for all stakeholders.

Introduction This study investigated the status of Occupational Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure (OBPE) in a top-level hospital in Beijing, in order to improve the Occupational Safety and Health Management System (OSHMS). Methods A convergent parallel mixed-methods design was utilized, combining observation, interviews, questionnaires and evaluation of protection measures against OBPE through assessment tools. Results Of the 932 respondents, 91.20% were females. The hospital’s OBPE incidence rate was 6.01%, and 91.07% of those who experience OBPE are female nurses. The Odds Ratio for female nurses compared to others was 1.62 (95% CI 0.63,4.14). The incident report rate was only 16.85%, the causes of under-report included fear of blame, non-standard operations causing exposure, perceived insignificance, patient’s negative serological test results, self-evaluation of low risk, seeking treatment on their own, and anticipating cumbersome processes after reporting. The assessment score of occupational exposure protection system in this hospital was 720.33/1000, which was below the good rating level (800/1000). Discussion The incidence of OBPE among female nurses is relatively low, however, the high under-report rate makes these results not reflect the real picture, the leading cause is the underdeveloped OSHMS which has a low score compared to the standard rating level for good OSHMS. Conclusion Female nurses are risked by OBPE with occupational health and safety issues caused by high under-report rate, therefore, the top priority and the comprehensive solution should be improving the OSHMS in the hospital.

Occupational safety and health are the main means of preventing accidents, disability and death as a result of work accidents. K3 aims to prevent, reduce, and even eliminate the risk of work accidents (zero accident). The application of this concept should not be considered as an effort to prevent work accidents and occupational diseases that cost the company a lot of money, but should be considered as a form of long-term investment that will provide abundant benefits in the future. This study aims to determine the implementation of the implementation and the level of success, as well as to determine the factors causing the delay in the implementation of the occupational safety and health management system (SMK3) in the construction project of the Hotel Santika Premiere Padang.The stage of this research is the study of various existing literatures to determine the variables to be used. The next stage is designing research questionnaires and then collecting data by distributing questionnaires directly to the field. The data obtained from the questionnaire will be analyzed for validity and reliability tests using the Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) software.The results of this study indicate that the success of the implementation of the occupational safety and health management system (SMK3), which is taken from the average sum of all variables, is 98.5%. So that it can be concluded that the level of achievement of the successful implementation of SMK3 in the construction project of the Hotel Santika Premiere Padang is based on the determination of the success value written in the Minister of Permenaker Number: 05/MEN/1996, eligible for a certificate and a gold flag. This is in accordance with category number 3, namely "where the level of achievement of 85-100% is given a certificate and a gold flag".

The integration of wellness programs into Occupational Safety and Health Management Systems (OSHMS) is essential for fostering a healthier and more productive workforce. In Nigeria, where workplace-related health challenges remain prevalent, a national strategy to incorporate wellness programs within OSHMS could significantly enhance employee well-being and organizational efficiency. This paper proposes a conceptual framework for developing such a strategy, addressing the interplay between occupational safety and wellness in promoting holistic workplace health. The framework emphasizes the need to align wellness programs with existing OSHMS structures, focusing on preventive measures, mental health support, and chronic disease management. Key components include policy formulation, capacity building, stakeholder engagement, and resource mobilization. By integrating wellness initiatives such as stress management, physical fitness programs, and nutrition education into OSHMS, the strategy aims to reduce workplace illnesses, absenteeism, and healthcare costs. This conceptual framework draws on global best practices and contextualizes them to Nigeria’s socio-economic and cultural realities. It highlights the role of government agencies, employers, and employees in fostering a culture of safety and wellness. Additionally, the paper discusses the application of digital tools and data analytics for monitoring and evaluating program effectiveness, ensuring continuous improvement. Case studies from similar interventions in other countries are analyzed to illustrate potential outcomes and challenges. The proposed framework identifies barriers such as insufficient funding, limited awareness, and lack of regulatory enforcement while offering solutions like public-private partnerships and community-driven initiatives. The findings underscore the transformative potential of integrating wellness programs into OSHMS, not only improving workplace health but also contributing to national economic growth. This study concludes with actionable recommendations for policymakers, industry leaders, and public health practitioners, advocating for a collaborative, data-driven approach to implementation.

ObjectiveIn its aim to develop a model of an occupational safety and health management system (OSHMS) for MSMEs in Indonesia, this study seeks to explore crucial factors in relation to the implementation of such a system in MSMEs by conducting a review of previous studies on the topic. MethodsThis systematic review is an exploratory study from several online databases our using a combination of two keywords that refer to the population and exposure variables in the PROSPERO Approach by using the “AND” strategy. Each literature goes through selection based on PRISMA flow chart. A Critical Appraisal Skill Programme (CASP) checklist for risk of bias assessment was used for the evidence quality appraisal. ResultFrom 37 papers, books, online books and local articles were selected, we identified pivotal factors in the implementation of OHSMS in MSMEs which can be classified into downstream factors (OSH training, commitment, risk management, and communication), middle stream factors (support from the third party), and upstream factors (the role of government). ConclusionVarious pivotal factors in promoting OSH implementation at MSMEs can be seen as role of MSMEs actors (employer and employee); third party and government.

The construction industry has a high level of occupational accident risk, making the implementation of an Occupational Safety and Health Management System (OSHMS) essential in construction projects. This study aims to evaluate the implementation of OSHMS in the construction project of the Pamulang University Campus Building and to identify potential hazards, risk levels, and risk control measures applied on site. This research employed a quantitative descriptive method, collecting data through field observations, interviews, and questionnaires distributed to 55 respondents directly involved in the project. Data analysis was conducted using SPSS to test the validity and reliability of the questionnaire, while the HIRARC method was used for hazard identification, risk assessment, and risk control. The results indicate that all questionnaire items were valid and reliable, with Cronbach’s Alpha values of 0.842 for the likelihood variable and 0.818 for the severity variable. The evaluation of OSHMS implementation achieved an average score of 4.07, categorized as good. The highest risk was identified in upper structural work, particularly the hazard of falling from height. It can be concluded that the implementation of OSHMS in the project has been carried out effectively; however, improvements in supervision and worker compliance are still required to further reduce occupational accident risks

The purpose of this chapter is to provide the conceptual framework, design, and vital elements of implementation of an effective and efficient occupational health and safety (OHS) performance management system in an enterprise. The aim of the chapter is to emphasize the importance of a managerial, systematic, and integral approach to the management of OHS performance, which is a field often left in the shadow of other performance dimensions. This chapter develops the specific framework of OHS performance management, which is characterized by the four key OHS performance phases: planning, measurement, analysis, and reporting. The proposed conceptual framework and the highlighted key aspects of OHS performance management are intended to aid managers in various industries (with particularly prominent OHS risks and hazards) in the development and implementation of the OHS management system and the OHS performance management system. Their proper implementation is aimed at the accomplishment of OHS goals and the business goals of enterprises in the contemporary business environment.

Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) is essential for protecting workers from accidents and work related diseases. At manufacturing area PT. XYZ, OHS issues include no compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS) regulations, lack of hazard identification, risk assessment, and control, and insufficient attention to OHS by operator. This study aims to analyze hazards, assess risks, and design appropriate risk control strategies. Using the HIRARC method, which has been proven effective in previous research. The result show that 40.74% of risks fall into the high category, followed by medium (29.63%), low (22.22%), and extreme (7.41%). Risk control strategies based on the Hierarchy of Control are recommended, including eliminating or reducing hazards by distancing hazardous substances from machine areas, replacing parts with safer alternatives, and switching to CNC machines. Engineering controls, such as ergonomic chair designs for operators and noise reduction, administrative controls like procedure design and OHS training, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) are also suggested to minimize risks and ensure compliance with established standards.
