How do natural disasters affect agricultural exports?

Purpose – This paper analyzes the relationship between trade facilitation and agricultural products exports and estimates the effects of trade facilitation in importing countries on Chinese agricultural products exports, which is of great significance for promoting agricultural trade between China,Japan and Korea and the governments of the three countries to formulate targeted trade facilitation policies. Design/methodology – Based on Wilson (2003) theoretical framework, this paper sets up its own trade facilitation level measurement system by involving four primary indicators and fifteen secondary indicators to evaluate the trade facilitation levels of Japan and Korea from 2011 to 2018 respectively. The paper selected the data on China s agricultural exports at the HS4 level from 2011-2018 and used a fixed-effects model to estimate the effect of changes in trade facilitation levels in trading partner countries on China s agricultural trade. Findings – Our main findings can be summarized as follows: the level of trade facilitation in importing countries has a significantly positive effect on China’s agricultural exports. The higher the level of trade facilitation in trading partner countries, the more Chinese agricultural exports trade, i.e. for every 1 percentage point increase in the level of trade facilitation, the volume of exports will increase by 2.299%.The sub-sample test shows that China s main agricultural products exported to Japan and Korea, such as aquatic products, vegetables, fruits and other perishable fresh products, are particularly significantly affected by the level of trade facilitation. Originality/value – First, from the innovation of the research perspective, which is different from the analysis of the existing paper on the overall trade facilitation of all traded commodities. This article is based on the close trade relations between China, Japan and Korea, and the particularity of agricultural products, from the perspective of China’s agricultural exports to Japan and Korea, discuss the impact of importing countries—Japan and Korea’s trade facilitation levels on China’s agricultural exports;Secondly, in this paper, the hierarchical data of the HS4 quartile is used to avoid the information loss of the industry, and to analyse the impact of the importing country’s trade facilitation level on the export of different types of agricultural products more scientifically.

Purpose - This study examines the structure of agricultural export sophistication, export efficiency, and the potential of South Korea’s agricultural products for Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) countries. Design/Methodology – This study evaluates the agricultural export sophistication of RCEP countries and investigate export sophistication’s effects on the efficiency and potential of South Korea’s agricultural exports to RCEP countries. To this end, we construct a stochastic frontier gravity model (SFGM) based on panel data of agricultural product trade and other factors that impact agricultural imports and exports between South Korea and 36 countries from 2001 to 2020. Using this “one-step method” trade inefficiency model, we evaluate the impact of export sophistication on export efficiency and potential and calculate trade efficiency and potential. Findings – The results reveal a growing trend in the structure of global and RCEP countries’ agricultural export sophistication where the export sophistication of the target countries positively impacts Korea’s agricultural exports to those nations. In addition, RCEP member countries accounted for 50% of the top ten countries in the 2020 trade efficiency ranking, and the average trade efficiency of RCEP member countries show an upward trend. Originality/value - South Korea is geographically close to most RCEP countries, which facilitates agricultural trade. Moreover, there are significant differences in climate conditions and resource endowments between South Korea and most RCEP countries, providing opportunities for expanding agricultural trade with these nations. This study contributes to the extant literature by further exploring the trade efficiency and potential of Korea’s agricultural exports to RCEP countries by considering export sophistication as an important potential factor affecting the competitiveness of Korea’s agricultural exports and analyzing the relationship between the structure of export sophistication and the trade efficiency of Korea’s agricultural product exports to RCEP members.

The article is devoted to the study of the problems and challenges of agricultural exports of Ukraine in the conditions of war. It was determined that before the beginning of the full-scale invasion, the country occupied a leading position in the world production of major agricultural crops (sunflower, rapeseed, barley, corn, wheat, soybeans). A comprehensive assessment of Ukraine's export positions in the world was carried out and the countries most dependent on the import of Ukrainian grain were identified. The dynamics of the domestic export of cereals, legumes (with products of their processing) and flour for the period from 2020/2021 MR to August 2023/2024 MR have been analyzed. The author has researched and systematized the problems of reducing the volume of export deliveries of Ukrainian grain to the world market. It is substantiated that part of the problems and challenges are macroeconomic in nature and complicate the development of the country's economy, distort market pricing mechanisms and reduce the competitiveness of domestic products. Among them is the risk of losing the country's reputation as a reliable supplier; loss of markets and trading partners; destruction of logistics and transport infrastructure; reduction of production volumes; change in demand; limiting access to resources; devaluation of the national currency, etc. A systematic analysis of the problems and challenges complicating agricultural export made it possible to single out the main ones: reduction in agricultural production volumes and loss of resource potential; limited financial resources; disruption of logistics chains. Special attention was paid to the problem of sea transportation, which before the beginning of the war provided about 95 % of agricultural exports. The dynamics of Ukraine's export volumes within the framework of the "grain initiative" during 2022- 2023 are analyzed. The role and significance of its implementation to mitigate the negative impact of Russia's military aggression on domestic agricultural exports is described. The reasons for the importance of sea transportation for Ukrainian exports have been determined: large volumes of supplies and their low cost. Emphasis is placed on the need to export by sea, even without the participation of Russia. The author researched the measures implemented by the Ukrainian government to support agricultural production and export and justified the need to develop a set of measures to stabilize and further develop the industry and restore the export of agricultural products. Among them are the following: reduction of bureaucratic barriers; state support for the development of logistics infrastructure, optimization of taxation and lending; adaptation of agricultural production to EU requirements; increasing the quality and safety of products in accordance with international standards; technological development and digitalization; restoration and transition of the agricultural sector to sustainable production. Key words: agricultural production, export, agricultural export, agricultural export problems, "grain initiative".

The paper examined the impact of exchange rate on coca export in Nigeria. The Augmented Dickey Fuller Unit root, Johansen co-integration, ordinary least square, and diagnostic tests as well as error correction mechanism were adopted to analyzed the secondary time series data, between 1980 and 2019, generated from Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO), World Bank and the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The ADF unit root test results showed that none of the variables was stationary at level I (0), whereas all the variables – cocoa export, agricultural export, exchange rate trade openness and world cocoa price became stationary after first difference or order one I(1). The Johansen co-integration test of the long run relationship revealed that both trace statistics and maximum eign value had two co-integrating equations at 5% whereas the trace statistics alone had 1 co-integrating equation at 1%; implying the existence of long run relationship between coca export, agricultural export, exchange rate, trade openness and world price of cocoa. The positive sign of the error correction mechanism of 0.07 suggested that deviation from the long run equilibrium is adjusted over the following time period by 7%. The t-test showed direct relationship between cocoa export and Exchange rate cum agricultural export prices, but inverse relationship with trade openness and world cocoa price. The diagnostic test revealed non existence of heteroskedasticity and serial correlation in the error term. The paper concluded that agricultural export, exchange rate, trade openness and world price of cocoa taken together affected cocoa export in Nigeria. The study recommended free market determination of exchange rate and accessibility of farmers to facilities provided by government to increase cocoa output and hence export. The research aims to study the effect of the application of environmental quality standards on the agricultural exports competitiveness. This was done through the identification of the most important quality standards, food hygiene, its classification and its impact on international trade. The researcher reviewed the most important concepts about food quality and the most important agreements, standards and systems concerned with food control. Also, the identification of the most important environmental standards of the European Union was done. It was clarified the concept of competitiveness, its types, determinants, stages and methods of measurement and the relationship between environmental quality standards and competitiveness. Then the researcher clarifies competitiveness of Egyptian agricultural exports and its current international situation. Also, he analyzes the quality cost and its impact on product competitiveness. PAM for subject crops was done with analysis of the competitiveness of the most important export crops indicators (peanuts, oranges, green beans) in the Suez Canal district. The field study has been conducting on companies in the field of agricultural crops exportation. So, the study was divided into two parts (companies corporate quality standards / companies are not corporate environmental quality standards). This was done to study the effect of the successful application of environmental quality standards on companies worked in the field of agricultural exportation and its impact on the competitiveness ability First: The study population and sample: Researchers obtained a list of companies operating in the export of agricultural products and the sources of this data were: Quarantine department in Ismailia, Marketing Department of Agricultural Directorate in Ismailia. Two companies were selected jointly which are specializing in crops under study (peanuts, oranges, green beans). The first community was the companies that implement environmental quality standards and the second community of companies that do not apply the environmental quality standards. The study was limited to Ismailia governorate without the rest of other Suez Canal governorates due to the unavailability of data on the economic performance of agricultural foreign trade for these governorates, in addition to the agricultural character which characterizes the economic activity in Ismailia compared to the rest of the Suez Canal governorates. Second Methodology of the study: This study is based on descriptive analytical method where the researcher was adopted at the sample collection on intentional sample pattern which was taken from the companies applied the standards of environmental quality and those are not. The researcher conducts personal interviews with directors of quality and export departments to collect data by questionnaire to consolidate the search results. Methodological procedures for the search: questionnaire designing then determine research sample. The researchers prepare an inventory of all the companies that are exporting crops under study. The third step: the data were collected from 22 companies which were committed to adopting environmental quality standards of the total number of 25 companies and factory. Third study result: SOWT analysis refers to many opportunities and strengths for the activity of foreign agricultural trade which can be accessed to export a unique place globally. Also, some of the weaknesses and threats may affect the export process, which can be overcome through solidarity between the companies and the country. Fourth Study Recommendations: The interest in research and development activities aimed at improving the Egyptian agricultural product and enhances its competitiveness in foreign markets quality, through the establishment of a special fund for research and development in which both the government and the private sector contribute to foreign aid and to improve the capacities of research centers, development and deepening of technological capabilities

With the deepening of economic globalization, regional economic cooperation has become a key driving force to promote global economic growth. The entry into force of RCEP marks the birth of the largest free trade agreement in the world, and the agricultural products in the region can achieve zero-tariff trade in the future, which will also bring great growth to China's agricultural export trade. Therefore, based on the data of China's agricultural exports to RCEP member countries from 2014 to 2023, this paper makes an in-depth analysis of the influencing factors and trade potential of China's agricultural exports by using the extended trade gravity model. The results show that the per capita GDP of China, the per capita GDP of other RCEP member countries, the added value of agriculture and the openness of foreign trade have a significant positive impact on China's agricultural export trade; The common border between RCEP member countries and China trade parties will also have a significant positive effect on agricultural export trade; However, the distance variable, the per capita arable land area of RCEP countries and liner shipping index have a significant negative effect on China's agricultural exports. In terms of export trade potential, except for Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Myanmar, all other RCEP countries are of "great trade potential". It is necessary to combine the characteristics of each country and adjust measures to local conditions to improve China's agricultural export trade strategy and strengthen agricultural trade with RCEP member countries.

This article explains the main types of agricultural exports in China and the countries and regions that are exported, and China’s agricultural product export situation from 2007 to 2016 and China’s agricultural product export problems, and analyzed the international multilateral environmental and environmental labeling system environmental regulations faced by China’s agricultural exports, and the impact of these environmental regulations on China’s agricultural exports. Through empirical analysis, it is concluded that foreign environmental regulation has a significant impact on the export of China’s agricultural products, and its strictness has seriously hindered the export of China’s agricultural products. On the basis of this conclusion, the corresponding countermeasures are proposed from three aspects: enterprises, governments and industry associations, breaking through the obstacles caused by foreign environmental regulations, increasing the export of China’s agricultural products, and playing the role of agricultural products in China’s import and export trade.

The purpose of the article is to identify the optimal approaches to the protection of intellectual property rights in international trade in agriculture based on the experience of the Russian Federation and China. The methodology of the study adopted in this article consists in a comprehensive consideration of modern approaches to the protection of intellectual property in international trade in agricultural products in Russia and China. Conclusions. At the international level, Chinese agricultural products face such problems as the protection of intellectual property rights abroad and technical barriers, which emphasizes the need to strengthen the protection of intellectual property. It is advisable to promote separate legislation on geographical indications and local centers for the protection of agricultural intellectual property (for example, a pilot project in Fujian Province), which can lead to a further increase in the competitiveness of Chinese agricultural products in the international market. In Russia, in the context of the research topic, the protection of traditional objects of patent rights (inventions, utility models, industrial designs), selection achievements, geographical indications and appellations of origin of goods, as well as other means of individualization, computer programs is of particular importance). The article separately examines the specifics of intellectual property protection in international electronic trade and parallel import of agricultural products. Scientific and practical relevance. The analysis allows us to conclude that it is necessary to systematize, taking into account the experience of the Russian Federation, the legislation on geographical indications, trademarks containing an indication of geographical origin and other related objects in the PRC. The idea of developing local centers in the PRC for the protection of agricultural intellectual property can be effectively perceived and implemented in Russia. The formulated conclusions and the analysis can be used to improve the current Russian and Chinese legislation, as well as in the practical activities of lawyers.

This study aimed to assess the influence of agricultural production and agricultural product exports on economic growth within the Turkish economy. To achieve this, annual data spanning from 1980 to 2022 were utilized to construct a model, employing the ARDL Bounds Test to discern the long-term cointegration relationship among variables and the Fourier Toda-Yamamoto Causality Test to determine causality relationships. The empirical findings from the ARDL Bounds Test indicate that increases in both agricultural production and agricultural product exports positively impact economic growth. Moreover, results from the Fourier Toda-Yamamoto Causality Test unveil a two-way causal relationship between agricultural production and GDP, while a one-way causality relationship is observed between agricultural product exports and GDP. Despite the declining share of the agricultural sector in GDP over the years in Turkey, these findings underscore the enduring importance of agriculture in driving economic growth and creating value. As potential solutions to Turkey's balance of payments challenges, strategies such as boosting domestic demand, expanding the domestic market, and augmenting agricultural sector contributions to foreign exchange earnings through agricultural export subsidies are proposed. Furthermore, efforts to mitigate income disparities between the agricultural sector and other sectors could foster socio-economic development in rural areas, thus promoting a more equitable distribution of national income across society.

Food security and sustainable development are among the critical issues of today. Addressing these challenges requires a focus on sectors that can simultaneously ensure food availability and foster sustainable progress. In this context, the agricultural sector serves as a driving force for both rural development and economic growth by enhancing productivity, promoting export-oriented strategies. This study examines Turkey's agricultural products' foreign trade situation, focusing on export-oriented development strategies. The research analyzes agricultural products' import and export data from the years between 2000 to 2023, obtained from the UN Comtrade database. The data consist of nine product groups within Chapters 06-14 of Section 2 of the Customs Tariff Schedule. Using statistical methods, including the Mann-Kendall and Sen's Slope Trend tests, the study investigates foreign trade trends and makes future projections. The results indicate that there is a general upward trend in exports. Export surpluses are expected in product groups such as live trees and other plants, vegetables, fruits, milling products, oilseeds, and vegetable materials for knitting. However, deficits persist in groups such as tea, coffee, spices, cereals, and lacquers, gums, and resins, where imports exceed exports. The most important export product group with the highest surplus is fruit, whereas the highest deficit ratio is observed in cereals. Based on the result of analysis, increasing Turkey's agricultural export performance holds strategic importance for rural development and economic growth. Therefore, reducing import dependency and promoting domestic production are essential for sustainable development in the agricultural sector. Additionally, supporting product groups with competitive advantages in agricultural exports and expanding their market share are recommended. The adoption of modern agricultural techniques, the training of farmers, and the development of rural infrastructure will also contribute to the sustainable growth of the sector and, in turn, support rural development. Structural transformation policies and improvements in the agricultural sector will contribute significantly to strengthening local economies and ensuring national economic stability by encouraging rural development.

This paper studies the cross-border e-commerce of agricultural products and its logistics supply chain collaborative management approach, the overall transaction mode and basic content, and proposes a cross-border e-commerce supply chain conceptual model. Aiming at the problems of agricultural product supply chains, a method for predicting agricultural product export prices is proposed. The Prophet algorithm under deep learning is utilized to construct the Prophet agricultural product price prediction model for trend, cycle, and holiday terms. Over the introduction of RNN algorithms and LSEM algorithms to optimize the prediction performance of the model, as well as the gradient explosion. On this basis, GRU neural networks are proposed as an improved model of RNN-LSTM. Prediction comparison experiments are designed to empirically analyze agricultural export price prediction and supply chain logistics risk control, and the results of the empirical analysis show that the vegetable export price predicted by using Prophet algorithm during the period of date 2013/4-2013/9 is 2.975, which differs from the actual price by 0.009 yuan, and the margin of error is in the interval of [-0.091,0.014], which is the smallest variation among the three algorithms, which shows that Prophet model has the best performance. After optimizing the FAPSC risk control coefficient, the risk value of supply chain logistics and transportation was successfully reduced from 0.364 to 0.296, and FAPSC effectively minimized the risk.

Introduction. The agricultural sector is one of the key drivers of Ukraine's export potential, providing a significant share of foreign exchange earnings and playing an important role in global food security. At the same time, the current stage of agricultural export development is taking place in conditions of significant transformations associated with the "green" transformation of the economy and Ukraine's integration into the European economic space. Methods. The article uses a set of general scientific and special research methods. Theoretical aspects of the development of agricultural exports in conditions of "green" transformation and European integration are summarized using methods of analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, as well as a systemic approach. Statistical methods, comparative analysis and graphical techniques based on data from the State Service of Ukraine, Eurostat, OECD and FAO were used to assess the dynamics and structural changes in agricultural exports. The role of the "green" transformation was substantiated using institutional analysis, structural and logical modeling and generalization of the EU's international experience. Results. The study found that the “green” transformation and European integration are changing the model of Ukrainian agricultural exports, causing a transition from a predominantly raw material orientation to an export strategy based on increasing added value, quality and environmental compliance of products. It is substantiated that the integration of EU environmental standards, traceability systems and carbon accounting into the national export policy increases the adaptability of agricultural exporters and reduces the impact of non-tariff barriers on access to European markets. It is proven that the effectiveness of agricultural export development in the context of the “green” transformation largely depends on systemic strategic management, state support for environmental innovations and investments in technological modernization of agricultural production. Discussion. Prospects for further research should be linked to a quantitative assessment of the impact of the “green” transformation on the volume, structure and added value of Ukrainian agricultural exports. An important direction is the development of econometric and scenario models for assessing the effectiveness of state and European support instruments for the adaptation of agricultural exporters to EU environmental standards. Also promising is the analysis of the integration of Ukrainian agricultural enterprises into European value chains, taking into account regional characteristics and challenges of post-war recovery. Keywords: agricultural exports, "green" transformation, European integration, sustainable development, EU environmental standards, competitiveness, institutional factors, value chains.

The trade of agricultural products plays an essential role in agricultural development. Agricultural trade is more complicated and diversified than other industrial products, influenced by product characteristics for perishable. The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is one of the most important markets for China’s agricultural exports. This study aimed to analyze the impact of trade facilitation indicators on China’s agricultural exports to ASEAN countries. A gravity model was adopted by taking the volume of Chinese agricultural exports to ASEAN countries from 2006–2020 as the dependent variable. Indicators such as economic freedom (EF), trade across borders (TAB), and infrastructure quality (Infra) were introduced that were representing trade facilitation as the core independent variable. Also, an empirical analysis was carried out using a mixed regression model. The results show that the three proxy indicators of trade facilitation had a significantly positive impact on the scale of China’s agricultural exports to the ASEAN market. The results could play a guiding role in strengthening the cooperation between China and the ASEAN regarding trade facilitation and expansion of the scale of agricultural trade.

Purpose. The purpose of the article is to evaluate the impact of the EU-Ukraine Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) on bilateral trade in agri-food products and domestic food market of Ukraine during the first five years after the entry into force of this DCFTA. Methodology / approach. Analysis of the impact of DCFTA with EU on the agricultural trade is based on the cost-benefit approach. The results of the implementation of the DCFTA agreement are evaluated in terms of benefits and losses for the main stakeholders (players) in agricultural trade – Ukrainian agricultural exporters, domestic agri-food producers, consumers, and the government sector. Based on the methods of analyzing the structure of the sectoral market, a list of criteria for evaluating the results of the implementation of the Agreement was determined. A comparison method was used to evaluate the impact of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement (hereinafter Agreement or AA) on agricultural trade and the domestic market of agri-food products of Ukraine. To study the DCFTA’s impact, the five-year period (2009–2013) before its implementation was compared with the five-year period after the entry into force of the DCFTA bilaterally (2016–2020). Since Ukraine lost control over part of its territories after the start of the Agreement’s implementation, relative indicators were used to assess the impact of the EU-Ukraine DCFTA on the domestic market of agri-food products. The research was conducted based on the data of the State Statistics Committee of Ukraine, UN Comtrade Trade Statistics Database, Eurostat Database. Results. The analysis demonstrates the undoubted benefits of DCFTA for Ukrainian exporters of agricultural goods: (1) after the implementation of the DCFTA, there was an increase in both Ukraine’s agricultural exports to the EU and imports of agricultural products from the EU to Ukraine, and the resulting positive balance in agricultural trade in 2020 was 5.5 times higher than in 2009. (2) the average growth rate of Ukraine’s agricultural exports to the EU during the first 5 years of the Agreement (10.3 %) exceeded the average growth rate of agricultural imports from the EU to Ukraine (7.2 %). (3) during 2016–2020, Ukraine’s exports of agricultural goods to the EU grew faster than agricultural exports to the rest of the World, which indicates the high effectiveness of bilateral liberalization of foreign trade regimes. (4) the DCFTA with the EU has not yet resulted in significantly reduce of the share of agricultural raw materials (or low value-added primary goods) in Ukraine’s exports to the EU. (5) the potential for exports of Ukrainian agricultural products to the EU, including those produced by small and medium-sized agrobusinesses, has not been fully realized due to the low levels of tariff rate quotas, high level of EU import duty rates applied to quantities imported from Ukraine outside tariff quotas and long duration and high costs of the certification procedures for the export to the EU. (6) during the first 5 years of DCFTA implementation, there was no significant expansion of imports of agri-food products to the domestic market of Ukraine. This happened not so much because of the high competitiveness of domestic producers, but because of the low purchasing power of the population. (7) the implementation of the Agreement did not have a significant downward impact on domestic prices for agri-food products in Ukraine. (8) the lowering of the tariff protection of the domestic market did not significantly influenced the domestic production of agri-food products which remained stable, except for the production of grape wines, which decreased during 2016–2020. (9) due to the implementation of the Agreement, the EU has increased its share in the import of agri-food products to Ukraine. However, for some commodity groups there was both absolute and relative decrease in imports. This happened due to competition from other importers, as well as due to import substitution processes. Originality / scientific novelty. The originality of the study is the specification (adaptation) of cost-benefit analysis methods to identify the DCFTA impact on the main stakeholders in agricultural trade of Ukraine with European Union – exporters, domestic producers, consumers, government sector. Practical value / implications. The practical use of the study consists of identification of the positive and negative consequences of the DCFTA for Ukraine’s agricultural trade stakeholders, as well as factors of these consequences, that allows developing practical agricultural trade policy recommendations, including periodic time-to-time review of trade provisions of the Agreement.

This paper presents an in-depth analysis of the competitiveness of Vietnam's agricultural exports in the global market using panel data analysis over the period from 2010 to 2023. The research integrates various economic indicators, such as export volume, value, and production data, both from Vietnam and its key trading partners. The core of the analysis involves the application of two key indices—the Revealed Comparative Advantage (RCA) Index and the Trade Specialization Coefficient (TSC)—to evaluate Vietnam's relative standing in agricultural exports. The results of the study reveal that Vietnam maintains a competitive edge in certain agricultural products, most notably rice, coffee, and cashew nuts. These sectors have historically contributed significantly to the country's agricultural export growth. However, despite these strengths, the study highlights several persistent challenges. These include concerns over the consistency and quality of agricultural products, which hinder Vietnam's ability to access high-value markets. Additionally, Vietnam faces growing competition from other emerging agricultural exporters, particularly in regions such as South America and Africa, which have gained prominence in key agricultural export categories. The study also underscores the importance of factors such as market diversification, technological innovation, and sustainable farming practices in improving competitiveness. The research suggests that Vietnam's agricultural sector must transition from a reliance on traditional export products to incorporating more diversified, high-quality products that meet the standards of global markets. Furthermore, addressing logistical inefficiencies and investing in infrastructure are essential steps to reduce export costs and increase market reach. In light of these findings, the paper proposes several targeted policy recommendations to enhance Vietnam's agricultural export competitiveness. These include promoting research and development in agricultural technologies, strengthening international trade agreements, supporting smallholder farmers in improving their production techniques, and enhancing brand recognition for Vietnamese agricultural products. Additionally, fostering collaboration between the government, private sector, and educational institutions will be crucial in creating a more resilient agricultural export framework. These efforts will not only strengthen Vietnam's position in the global agricultural market but also contribute to the country's long-term economic development.
