Image Encryption Algorithm Based on Hyperchaotic System

The objective of this research is to develop a novel image encryption method that can be used to considerably increase the security of encrypted images. To solve this image security problem, we propose a distributed homomorphic image encryption scheme where the images of interest are those in the visible electromagnetic spectrum. In our encryption phase, a red green blue (RGB) image is first separated into its constituent channel images, and then the numerical intensity value of a pixel from each channel is written as a sum of smaller pixel intensity sub-values, leading to having several component images for each of the R, G, and B-channel images. A homomorphic encryption function is used to separately encrypted each of the pixel intensity sub-values in each component image using an encryption key, leading to a distributed image encryption approach. Each of the encrypted component images can be compressed before transmission and/or storage. In our decryption phase, each encrypted component image is decompressed if necessary, and then the homomorphic property of the encryption function is used to transform the product of individually encrypted pixel intensity sub-values in each encrypted component images, to the encryption of their sum, before applying the corresponding decryption function with a decryption key to recover the original pixel's intensity values for each channel image, and then recovering the original RGB image. Furthermore, a special case of an RGB image encryption and decryption where a pixel's intensity value from each channel is written as a sum of only two sub-values is implemented and simulated with a software. The resulting cipher-images are subject to a range of security tests and analyses. Results from these tests shown that our proposed homomorphic image encryption scheme is robust and can resist security attacks, as well as increases the security of the associated encrypted images. Our proposed homomorphic image encryption scheme has produced highly secure encrypted images.

This paper proposes a visually secure asymmetric image encryption scheme based on Rivest–Shamir–Adlemen (RSA) algorithm and hyperchaotic map. It combines the advantages of the RSA and chaos-based image encryption algorithms. First, to fully encrypt the image information, the plain image is encrypted into a cipher image by applying the row and column encryption algorithms. Second, the image secret key is converted into a ciphertext by utilizing the RSA algorithm to increase the security, and then the ciphertext is transformed into an image and permuted using the Arnold map to enhance the robustness of the embedded image. We then obtain the key cipher image. Finally, the cipher image and the key cipher image are embedded into a carrier image (CI) to obtain a visually secure image. It simultaneously achieves the image information security and image visually security. To further improve the security, the RSA keys management technique is applied and the initial conditions of the hyperchaotic map are updated in real time based on the plain image. In addition, the encryption scheme is suitable for multi-user image transmission with high security requirements and image transmission without the secure channel for key transmission. The simulation results and performance analysis validate the effectiveness, security and robustness of the proposed scheme.

A novel image encryption algorithm based on a hybrid model of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), cellular automata (CA) and chaotic system is proposed. CA due to its complex behavior has several applications such as generating random numbers and cryptography. DNA rules, DNA sequence XOR operator and CA rules are used simultaneously to encrypt the plain-image pixels. To determine rule number in DNA sequence and also CA, a 2-dimension logistic map is employed. Experimental results show that the proposed image encryption scheme has a lot of characteristics, including large key space, low correlation of adjacent cipher pixels, and high security, which can effectively protect the security of the encrypted image.

We propose an improved image encryption algorithm based on hyper chaotic system and permutation-diffusion structure. In the permutation process, the algorithm introduces plain-text feedback mechanism that makes the permutation effect not only associated with the chaotic sequences, but also related to plain-text. And in the diffusion process, the algorithm introduces both cipher-text and plain-text feedback mechanisms to diffuse the permuted image. All of these methods make the mapping-relationship between cipher-text and plain-text as well as secret keys more complex. At last, the security analysis such as key space analysis, histograms, correlation coefficients, information entropy, key sensitivity analysis, plaintext sensitivity, speed analysis. We also perform series evaluation experiments, experimental results show that the proposed image encryption scheme is of very good performance on security and reliability, with high potential to be adopted for the secure image communication applications.

In the modern world, the security of the digital image is vital due to the frequent communication of digital products over the open network. Accelerated advancement of digital data exchange, the importance of information security in the transmission of data, and its storage has emerged. Multiple uses of the images in the security agencies and the industries and the security of the confidential image data from unauthorized access are emergent and vital. In this paper, Bose Chaudhary Hocquenghem (BCH) codes over the Galois field are used for image encryption. The BCH codes over the Galois field construct MDS (maximum distance separable) matrices and secret keys for image encryption techniques. The encrypted image is calculated, by contrast, correlation, energy, homogeneity, and entropy. Histogram analysis of the encrypted image is also assured in this paper. The proposed image encryption scheme's security analysis results are improved compared to the original AES algorithm. Further, security agencies can utilize this work for their confidential image data.

Image encryption converts a meaningful image into some random arrangement of pixel intensities. That means, the intelligible property of an image is destroyed. Taking into consideration excessively large time and space complexity required by the image encryption algorithm using multiple chaotic systems, this paper proposes an image encryption method in which employs three chaotic sequence to achieve fairly high level of encryption. Novelty of the proposed approach lies in the designed algorithm to achieve both permutation and substitution processes of image encryption. In the end, a comparison in the coefficient correlation values is drawn to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm with respect to many lately proposed image encryption schemes.

It is known that chaotic, especially hyperchaotic system can be suitable for the application in image encryption owing to itself characteristics. While currently, certain improved chaotic or hyperchaotic systems are confronted with the security issue of encryption due to their less complex dynamical behaviors. To address the problem well, we introduce a novel two-dimensional (2D) crossed hyperchaotic map which is based on the logistic map and the infinite collapse map. The analysis of phase diagram and Lyapunov exponential spectrum demonstrate that the given system can exhibit extensive hyperchaotic behavior and good traversal properties. Moreover, the growing use of digital images has prompted demand for multi-image encryption scheme. For this reason, based on the given 2D crossed hyperchaotic map, a multiple image encryption (MIE) scheme that employs a cross-plane with the operation of simultaneous permutation and diffusion to modify the values of its positions and pixels across multiple images is proposed. A pixel blur preprocessing technique is introduced such that the efficiency of key calculation and the speed and safety of information encryption are greatly improved. Eventually, some simulation examples and security analysis reveal that the put forward encryption scheme is able to keep out kinds of attacks such as the selective plaintext attacks and data loss.

In this paper, we propose and demonstrate experimentally a new wireless digital encryption hyperchaotic communication system based on radio frequency (RF) communication protocols for secure real-time data or image transmission. A reconfigurable hardware architecture is developed to ensure the interconnection between two field programmable gate array development platforms through XBee RF modules. To ensure the synchronization and encryption of data between the transmitter and the receiver, a feedback masking hyperchaotic synchronization technique based on a dynamic feedback modulation has been implemented to digitally synchronize the encrypter hyperchaotic systems. The obtained experimental results show the relevance of the idea of combining XBee (Zigbee or Wireless Fidelity) protocol, known for its high noise immunity, to secure hyperchaotic communications. In fact, we have recovered the information data or image correctly after real-time encrypted data or image transmission tests at a maximum distance (indoor range) of more than 30 m and with maximum digital modulation rate of 625,000 baud allowing a wireless encrypted video transmission rate of 25 images per second with a spatial resolution of 128 × 128 pixels. The obtained performance of the communication system is suitable for secure data or image transmissions in wireless sensor networks.

A novel image encryption scheme comprising of one permutation process and one diffusion process is proposed. In the permutation process, the image sized is expanded to one sized by dividing the plain-image into two parts: one consisting of the higher 4bits and one consisting of the lower 4bits. The permutation operations are done row-by-row and column-by-column to increase the speed. The chaotic generalized Arnold map is utilized to generate chaotic sequence, which is quantized to shuffle the expanded image. The chaotic sequence for permutation process is dependent on plain-image and cipher keys, resulting in good key sensitivity and plain-image sensitivity. To achieve more avalanche effect and larger key space, Chinese Remainder Theorem is applied to diffuse the shuffled image. The key sensitivity and key space of the proposed image encryption have been analyzed as well. The experimental results suggest that the proposed image encryption scheme can be used for secure image and video communication applications.

A novel image encryption scheme based on improved hyperchaotic sequences

Recently, chaotic systems have been widely investigated in several engineering applications. This paper presents a new chaotic system based on Julia’s fractal process, chaotic attractors and Logistic map in a complex set. Complex dynamic characteristics were analyzed, such as equilibrium points, bifurcation, Lyapunov exponents and chaotic behavior of the proposed chaotic system. As we know, one positive Lyapunov exponent proved the chaotic state. Numerical simulation shows a plethora of complex dynamic behaviors, which coexist with an antagonist form mixed of bifurcation and attractor. Then, we introduce an algorithm for image encryption based on chaotic system. The algorithm consists of two main stages: confusion and diffusion. Experimental results have proved that the proposed maps used are more complicated and they have a key space sufficiently large. The proposed image encryption algorithm is compared to other recent image encryption schemes by using different security analysis factors including differential attacks analysis, statistical tests, key space analysis, information entropy test and running time. The results demonstrated that the proposed image encryption scheme has better results in the level of security and speed.

In this paper a chaos-based digital image encryption scheme by a permutation-substitution structure is proposed. Its design and implement have been detailed discussed and tested. The results of simulation and analysis show that the proposed image encryption scheme provides a secure way for image encryption.

Medical images demand robust privacy protection, driving research into advanced image encryption (IE) schemes. However, current IE schemes still encounter certain challenges in both security and efficiency. Fractional-order Hopfield neural networks (HNNs) demonstrate unique advantages in IE. The introduction of fractional-order calculus operators enables them to possess more complex dynamical behaviors, creating more random and unpredictable keystreams. To enhance privacy protection, this paper introduces a high-performance medical IE scheme that integrates a novel 4D fractional-order HNN with a differentiated encryption strategy (MIES-FHNN-DE). Specifically, MIES-FHNN-DE leverages this 4D fractional-order HNN alongside a 2D hyperchaotic map to generate keystreams collaboratively. This design not only capitalizes on the 4D fractional-order HNN’s intricate dynamics but also sidesteps the efficiency constraints of recent IE schemes. Moreover, MIES-FHNN-DE boosts encryption efficiency through pixel bit splitting and weighted accumulation, ensuring robust security. Rigorous evaluations confirm that MIES-FHNN-DE delivers cutting-edge security performance. It features a large key space (2383), exceptional key sensitivity, extremely low ciphertext pixel correlations (<0.002), excellent ciphertext entropy values (>7.999 bits), uniform ciphertext pixel distributions, outstanding resistance to differential attacks (with average NPCR and UACI values of 99.6096% and 33.4638%, respectively), and remarkable robustness against data loss. Most importantly, MIES-FHNN-DE achieves an average encryption rate as high as 102.5623 Mbps. Compared with recent leading counterparts, MIES-FHNN-DE better meets the privacy protection demands for medical images in emerging fields like medical intelligent analysis and medical cloud services.

With the rapid development of Internet of Things (IoT) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, information security has become a critical issue. To develop a highly secure image encryption transmission system, this study proposes a novel key generation mechanism based on the combination of fractional-order chaotic system synchronization control and the SHA-256 algorithm. This proposed method dynamically generates high-quality synchronous random number sequences and is combined with the Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) algorithm. To quantitatively evaluate the mechanism, the generated sequences are tested using NIST SP 800-22, ENT, and DIEHARD suites. The comparative results show that the key generation mechanism produces sequences with higher randomness and unpredictability. In the evaluation of image encryption, histogram distribution, information entropy, adjacent pixel correlation, NPCR, and UACI are used as performance metrics. Experimental results show that the histogram distributions are uniform, the values of information entropy, NPCR, and UACI are close to their ideal levels, and the pixel correlation is significantly reduced. Compared to recent studies, the proposed method demonstrates higher encryption performance and stronger resistance to statistical attacks. Furthermore, the system effectively addresses key distribution and management problems inherent in traditional symmetric encryption schemes. These results validate the reliability and practical feasibility of the proposed approach.

With the rapid growth of image transmission and storage, image security has become a hot topic in the community of information security. Image encryption is a direct way to ensure image security. This paper presents a novel approach that uses a hyperchaotic system, Pixel-level Filtering with kernels of variable shapes and parameters, and DNA-level Diffusion, so-called PFDD, for image encryption. The PFDD totally consists of four stages. First, a hyperchaotic system is applied to generating hyperchaotic sequences for the purpose of subsequent operations. Second, dynamic filtering is performed on pixels to change the pixel values. To increase the diversity of filtering, kernels with variable shapes and parameters determined by the hyperchaotic sequences are used. Third, a global bit-level scrambling is conducted to change the values and positions of pixels simultaneously. The bit stream is then encoded into DNA-level data. Finally, a novel DNA-level diffusion scheme is proposed to further change the image values. We tested the proposed PFDD with 15 publicly accessible images with different sizes, and the results demonstrate that the PFDD is capable of achieving state-of-the-art results in terms of the evaluation criteria, indicating that the PFDD is very effective for image encryption.
