Implementation and Analysis of MapReduce on Biomedical Big Data

Objectives: The rapid change and emergence of the technology are happening more than a decade. The current world has become almost completely a digital and computing world. The objective of this paper is to describe real impact of Big Data analytics techniques in this digital world to obtain valuable knowledge. The essential goal of this paper was to examine about the big data analytics methods and techniques. It has reviewed six of the techniques that are used by the big data researchers to pick up bits of knowledge by processing and analyzing the big data in limited time. The development of these techniques will help us to analyze the big data more effectively and subsequently delivering more productive and gainful outcomes. Methods/Statistical Analysis: We reviewed different analytics techniques for text, audio, video, and social media data, as well as predictive analytics. This paper describes the six Analytics Techniques to obtain valuable knowledge in limited time. Findings: The six analytics techniques which is discussed in this paper is very important to obtain valuable information from big data in limited time, because now a days data is growing at very fast rate. Two scientific domains that are crucial in “Biomedical Big Data”, computing and statistics, do not typically require “training in the responsible conduct of research” or research ethics. While “responsible conduct of research” (RCR) comprises interactions with subjects (human and non-human), it also involves interactions with other scientists, the scientific community, the public, and in some contexts, research funders. Historically, the development or emergence of disciplines and professions tend to involve a semi-simultaneous emergence of professional norms and/or codes of conduct. However, Biomedical Big Data is not emerging as a single discipline or profession, and engages practitioners from many diverse backgrounds. Moreover, the place of the data analyst or the computer scientist developing analytic algorithms seems to be too granular to be considered specifically within the activities that comprise “responsible research and innovation” (RRI). Current legal and policy-level considerations of Biomedical Big Data and RRI are implicitly assuming that scientists carrying out the research and achieving the innovations are exercising their scientific freedom – i.e., conducting research – responsibly. The assumption is that all scientists are trained to conduct research responsibly. In the United States, federal agencies funding research require that training in RCR be included – some of the time. Because the vast majority of research that was federally funded has not included Biomedical Big Data, RCR training paradigms have emerged over the past 20 years in US institutions that are not particularly relevant for Big Data. While it would be efficient to utilize such established, well-known, easily-documented RCR training programs, this chapter discusses how and why this is less likely to support the development of professional norms that are relevant for Biomedical Big Data. This chapter will describe an alternative approach that can support ongoing reflection on professional obligations, which can be used in a wide range of ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI), including those that have not yet been identified. This may be the greatest strength of this alternative approach for preparing practitioners for Biomedical Big Data, because the ability to apply prior learning in ethics to previously unseen problems is especially critical in the current era of dynamic and massive data accumulation. To support the development of normative ethical practices among practitioners in Biomedical Big Data, this chapter reviews the guidelines for professional practice from three statistical associations (American Statistical Association; Royal Statistics Society; International Statistics Institute) and from the Association of Computing Machinery. These can be leveraged to ensure that, in their work with Biomedical Big Data, participants know and understand the ethical, legal, and social implications of that work. Formal integration of these (or other relevant) guidelines into the preparation for practice with data (big and small) can help in dealing with ethical challenges currently arising with Big Data in biomedical research; moreover, this integration can also help deal with challenges that have not yet arisen. These outcomes, which are consistent with recent calls for the institutionalization of reflection and reasoning around ELSI across scientific disciplines, in Europe, are only possible as long as the integration effort does not follow a currently-dominant paradigm for training in RCR. Preparing scientists to engage competently in conversations around ethical issues in Biomedical Big Data requires purposeful, discipline-relevant, and developmental training that can come from, and support, a culture of ethical biomedical research and practice with Big Data.

The field of public health provides a multidisciplinary area of research, and new challenges in analytics and operations management are reshaping the strategic decision-making dynamics. Big data is an emerging and promising area of research that has great potential to transform public health. Developed countries are designing big data tools and analytic techniques and using them to provide leadership. In this respect, low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) need to become more engaged in the big data ecosystem and to become more aware of how to use new analytical techniques. This chapter provides an overview of big data analytic techniques in public health and their potential to transform strategic public health management in LMICs. To achieve this goal, this chapter explains big data analytics and big data tools in public health and discusses development strategies for LMIC's big public data potential to ensure a better knowledge base for LMIC health policymakers.

Big data have been in use since the 1990s, which usually include some complex data sets whose sizes are beyond the ability of commonly used software to handle within a reasonable period of time. In recent years, big data analytics by providing personalized medicine and regulation analysis, providing clinical risk intervention and forecast analysis, reducing waste and nursing patients with external and internal variability, standardization of medical terminology and patient registration, and fragmentation of the solution, help to improve health care. This paper provides an overview of the contents of big data healthcare. We summarize some kinds of medical big data, including the electronic health records, the medical image data, the healthcare system big data, the health Internet of Things and healthcare informatics, the remote medical monitoring big data, the biomedical big data, and other sources of big data. Furthermore, we discuss some methods for handling different kinds of medical big data. Additionally, we analyze the privacy of medical big data and summarize some methods and technologies to protect privacy. Aiming at some special cases, we list some other analyses and methods for them. Most importantly, we discuss the potential challenges and future research directions related to big data healthcare.

Big data streams are now widespread because real-time applications that generate enormous amounts of data quickly have proliferated during the past 10 years. Big data is a Firing Term in the recent era of the modern world, due to the information exploita-tion; there is an enormous amount of data produced. Big data is a powerful momentum of infor-mation and communication technology field due to the effect of growing data in healthcare, IOT, cloud computing, online education, online businesses, and public management. The produced data is not only large but also complex. Big data has a large amount of unstructured data so that there is a need to develop advanced tools and techniques for handling big data. Machine Learning is a prominent area of Artificial Intelligence. It makes the system to make intelligent resolutions by giving the knowledge to achieve the goals. This study reviews the various challenges and innovative ideas for big data analytics with machine learning in different fields over the past ten years. This paper mainly organized to identify the research projects based on the discussions over machine learning techniques for big data analytics and provide suggestions to develop the new projects.

This book presents cutting edge research on the new ethical challenges posed by biomedical Big Data technologies and practices. Biomedical Big Data refers to the analysis of aggregated, very large datasets to improve medical knowledge and clinical care. The book describes the ethical problems posed by aggregation of biomedical datasets and re-use/re-purposing of data, in areas such as privacy, consent, professionalism, power relationships, and ethical governance of Big Data platforms. Approaches and methods are discussed that can be used to address these problems to achieve the appropriate balance between the social goods of biomedical Big Data research and the safety and privacy of individuals. Seventeen original contributions analyse the ethical, social and related policy implications of the analysis and curation of biomedical Big Data, written by leading experts in the areas of biomedical research, medical and technology ethics, privacy, governance and data protection. The book advances our understanding of the ethical conundrums posed by biomedical Big Data, and shows how practitioners and policy-makers can address these issues going forward.

Big data has evolved as a most challenging area in scientific study and research. It has drawn much attention during the last few years. It influences our modern society, business, government, healthcare, research and almost every discipline. In this data-driven era, where data is continuously acquired from a verity of sources for different purposes, the ability to make timely decisions based on available data is a very critical task. The massive data size, variety, velocity, accuracy and high dimensionality presents new challenges to big data. This paper attempts to present some challenges of big data. In addition, a study on the conceptual design of big data architecture presented on specific big data applications. In this paper, we presented research work on big data analytics techniques in the areas of text, sentiment, video, social media and predictive analytics. A comparative analysis on selected big data applications has been presented in detail.

Internet of Things (IoT) and Big Data have played a significant role in the development and sustainability of Smart Cities. They are the backbones of Smart Cities' efforts to connect human resources, social capital, and ICT infrastructure to address public challenges, achieve sustainable development and improve people's standard of life. It helps Smart Cities improve public services, such as water management, healthcare, education, security issues, transportation, energy usage, and other community to achieve a better life. Big Data helps to analyze, store and back-ups a massive amount of data generated in smart cities in seconds day by day. For this matter, different analytical tools are employed, such as data analytics, machine learning, statistics, and data mining. Even though there are many benefits offered to smart cities; the Smart Cities encounters challenges that need to be addressed. Many of these challenges focus on security and privacy, infrastructures and operational and handling massive data. This paper describes the overview of IoT, Big Data, and Smart Cities. The Applications of IoT and Smart Cities were also discussed; the features of Smart Cities and Big Data; Different challenges of IoT, Big Data, and Smart Cities are described. Also, the proposed research work has presented the relationship between IoT and Big Data to Smart Cities; the role of IoT and Big Data in smart cities was identified; finally, the future directions for IoT and Big Data regarding Smart Cities are discussed.

The purpose of this study is to review journal papers on educational big data research published from 2010 to 2018. A total of 143 papers were selected. The papers were characterized based on three dimensions: (a) educational goals; (b) educational problems addressed; and (c) big data analytical techniques used. A qualitative content analysis approach was conducted to develop a coding scheme for analyzing the selected papers. The results identified four types of educational goals, with a clear predominance of quality assurance. The identification of the most mentioned educational problems resulted in four main concerns: the lack of detecting student behavior modeling and waste of resources; inappropriate curricula and teaching strategies; oversights of quality assurance; and privacy and ethical issues. Concerning the most mentioned big data analytical techniques, the coding scheme revealed that the majority of the papers focused on the educational data mining technique followed by the learning analytics technique. The visual analytics technique was mentioned in a few papers. The results also indicated that the educational data mining technique is the most suitable technique to use for quality assurance and to provide potential solutions for the lack of detecting student behavior modeling and the waste of resources in institutions.

The average volume of data produced daily is estimated to be over 2.5 quintillion byte. Moreover, by year 2020, it is estimated that 1.79MB of data will be created every second by each person in the world. Apparently, big datasets contain tremendous amount of valuable information that can be used for improved decision making. However, big data requires incredible amount of storage and computational resources for effective processing. Machine Learning (ML) algorithms are effective tools popularly used to analyze and extract concealed insights from datasets. However, some ML algorithms were not originally designed to handle big datasets, hence their computational complexity decreases with increase in data size. Consequently, this makes big data analytics extremely slow or unrealistic. Therefore, there is an obvious need for fast and effective techniques for big data analytics. This paper introduces an intelligent hybrid ML-based technique suitable for big data analytics (called EDISA_ML). EDISA_ML is a boundary detection and instance selection algorithm, inspired by edge detection in image processing. It was evaluated on four ML algorithms and big datasets, and the results show that it achieved a storage reduction of over 50% and simultaneously improved the training speed of the evaluated ML algorithms by over 93% (in some cases), without meaningfully affecting their prediction accuracy.

Currently, the value in biomedical big data has been ascending. Notable sources of biomedical big data include medical claims data, electronic medical records, public health data, medical research data, medical market and costs data, individual behavior and mentality data, human genetics and omics data, social demography data, environmental and geographic information data, and health network and media data. Biomedical big data can be applied to conduct omics studies and association studies among different omics, quickly search for biomarkers and develop new drugs, rapidly screen unknown pathogens and find suspicious agents, carry out the real-time implementation of biological monitoring and public health surveillance, prevent and control of emerging infectious diseases, understand the changing spectrum of diseases in the population, evaluate the efficacy and safety of drugs and vaccines in real world, conduct precise health management, and allow more powerful work on data mining. Meanwhile, biomedical big data does face challenges, including standardization and normalization of data collection, merging of current data islands, computer management of massive data, efficient use of data for research and practice, and lack of talents with the comprehensive expertise in both biomedicine and information technology. Biomedical big data will change the pattern of medical practice and improve the quality of healthcare services.

The explosive growth of biomedical Big Data presents both significant opportunities and challenges in the realm of knowledge discovery and translational applications within precision medicine. Efficient management, analysis, and interpretation of big data can pave the way for groundbreaking advancements in precision medicine. However, the unprecedented strides in the automated collection of large‐scale molecular and clinical data have also introduced formidable challenges in terms of data analysis and interpretation, necessitating the development of novel computational approaches. Some potential challenges include the curse of dimensionality, data heterogeneity, missing data, class imbalance, and scalability issues. This overview article focuses on the recent progress and breakthroughs in the application of big data within precision medicine. Key aspects are summarized, including content, data sources, technologies, tools, challenges, and existing gaps. Nine fields—Datawarehouse and data management, electronic medical record, biomedical imaging informatics, Artificial intelligence‐aided surgical design and surgery optimization, omics data, health monitoring data, knowledge graph, public health informatics, and security and privacy—are discussed.

Big Data Analytics (BDA) provides an important resource for businesses seeking to enhance their performance and gain a competitive advantage, although not all organizations are adopting BDA techniques, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Jordan have been slow in this regard, despite being key players in any healthy economy, and the fact that BDA adoption can be facilitated by using the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The purpose of this study is to investigate the drivers of behavioral intention among managerial-level employees in Jordanian ICT SMEs to adopt BDA through a quantitative correlational research approach. The TAM questionnaire was used to gather data from 271 online survey participants in Jordan using Google Forms. The target group included management level staff working in small and medium-sized ICT firms (SMEs). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to evaluate the research instrument's reliability and validity, and structural equation modeling (SEM) was utilized to test the study's hypotheses. The findings revealed that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and perceived “privacy and security” significantly influenced managerial-level employees' behavioral intention to use BDA in their organizations. The research findings also supported the application of TAM, and the results of the investigation indicated that managerial-level employees would be willing to use BDA techniques providing they were perceived to be useful, user-effortless, and posed little concern about privacy and security. Overall, the current study's results demonstrate that the suggested model had good predictive power, 51% of the variance in behavioral intention, and was therefore capable of predicting managers' intentions to use BDA.

Public health researchers increasingly recognize that to advance their field they must grapple with the availability of increasingly large (i.e., thousands of variables) traditional population-level datasets (e.g., electronic medical records), while at the same time integrating additional large datasets (e.g., data on genomics, the microbiome, environmental exposures, socioeconomic factors, and health behaviors). Leveraging these multiple forms of data might well provide unique and unexpected discoveries about the determinants of health and wellbeing. However, we are in the very early stages of advancing the techniques required to understand and analyze big population-level data for public health research. To address this problem, this paper describes how we propose that big data can be efficiently used for public health discoveries. We show that data analytics techniques traditionally employed in public health studies are not up to the task of the data we now have in hand. Instead we present techniques adapted from big data visualization and analytics approaches used in other domains that can be used to answer important public health questions utilizing these existing and new datasets. Our findings are based on an exploratory big data case study carried out in San Diego County, California where we analyzed thousands of variables related to health to gain interesting insights on the determinants of several health outcomes, including life expectancy and anxiety disorders. These findings provide a promising early indication that public health research will benefit from the larger set of activities in contemporary big data research.
