Institutional research as a bridge

The aim of this research is to investigate the effectiveness and influence of internal supervisory units within higher education institutions, addressing the key issue of how these units contribute to academic quality assurance and governance; to solve this problem, quantitative data on performance metrics and qualitative data from stakeholder interviews will be required to assess the operational dynamics and outcomes of these supervisory units. The research addresses the pressing issue of how these units operate and impact educational outcomes by employing a mixed-methods approach that combines quantitative performance metrics with qualitative insights gathered from stakeholder interviews. Key findings reveal that institutions with robust internal supervisory frameworks demonstrate significantly higher academic performance indicators, improved stakeholder satisfaction, and enhanced compliance with regulatory standards. Furthermore, the qualitative data highlight the critical role of communication and collaboration among faculty, administration, and governance bodies in fostering a culture of accountability and continuous improvement. The significance of these results extends beyond the confines of higher education, as effective governance in academic settings is paramount for shaping future healthcare professionals who are thoroughly trained in quality-centric practices. Consequently, the implications of this study suggest that refining the operational dynamics of internal supervisory units could not only elevate academic institutions but also contribute to a more competent healthcare workforce, ultimately enhancing patient care outcomes. This research provides a foundational framework for policymakers and educational leaders aiming to strengthen quality assurance mechanisms, thereby emphasizing the integral link between education quality and the broader healthcare landscape.

With most academic instructional design and technology (IDT) degree programs located within education units in higher education, teacher education is a focal point for research on the classroom teacher as instructional designer and implementer of technology in K-12. Further, teacher education serves as a locus for modelling and testing theory-based teaching practice arising from the discipline. This review examines the historical foundations and recent scholarship in teacher education from an instructional design and technology perspective in US and international contexts, providing a lens to the issues of theory versus practice and evolving research paradigms. Research areas reviewed include teacher thinking and planning, novice versus expert teacher differences, the use of systematic instructional design in classroom practices, and the teacher as designer of instructional materials. Changing research approaches and constructivist philosophies have widened the understanding of teacher instructional planning and action from earlier process–product causation to a more complex, situated view of practice. From an examination of the uneasy relationship between the two disciplines, prospects for future cooperation and research are explored in terms of theory building, impacts on training, debates on the nature of design practice, and potential for shaping educational reform efforts.

External advisory boards have become indispensable to academic units in higher education, particularly to business and professional schools. Such boards can provide significant benefits and value but, at the same time, can create utter chaos if not developed and managed actively and strategically. This paper will address issues and choices associated with the creation and development of advisory boards and present strategies for maximizing their value.

Disability in Indonesia and globally remains closely associated with systemic discrimination, as legal protections alone have not been sufficient to dismantle stigma rooted in ableism, isolation, and exclusion. Citizenship education, when integrated with disability studies, offers a constructive framework for promoting inclusivity and civic participation in line with the social model of disability, which challenges the medical and charity models that perpetuate marginalization. This study aims to analyse how disability studies can be integrated into non-formal citizenship education to strengthen civic engagement that empowers people with disabilities and reflects transformative citizenship and civic empowerment. This research used a qualitative descriptive method with purposive and snowball sampling. Data were collected through interviews and observations with people with disabilities and their families, philanthropic communities, election officials, disability service units in higher education, and experts in citizenship education, health, public policy, and Pancasila studies. The findings show that empowerment initiatives—such as philanthropic programs, service learning, and inclusive election practices—are present but remain fragmented, ceremonial, and constrained by weak inter-sectoral collaboration. Nonetheless, the integration of service learning and pentahelix collaboration strengthens civic competence, youth leadership, and inclusive participation in communities. This study concludes that Indonesia’s Pancasila citizenship model provides a strong normative foundation for embedding disability empowerment in citizenship education. Its contribution lies in expanding citizenship education theory through disability perspectives while offering practical strategies for cross-sectoral collaboration. The implication is the need for sustainable policies and civic practices to transform legal guarantees into inclusive social justice. Pendidikan kewarganegaraan yang terintegrasi dengan kajian disabilitas menawarkan kerangka untuk memperkuat inklusivitas dan partisipasi kewargaan sesuai model sosial disabilitas, yang menolak model medis dan amal yang sering melanggengkan marginalisasi. Penelitian ini bertujuan menganalisis bagaimana kajian disabilitas dapat diintegrasikan ke dalam pendidikan kewarganegaraan non-formal untuk memperkuat keterlibatan kewargaan yang memberdayakan penyandang disabilitas serta merefleksikan kewargaan transformatif. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif dengan teknik purposive dan snowball sampling. Data diperoleh melalui wawancara dan observasi terhadap penyandang disabilitas dan keluarga, komunitas filantropi, penyelenggara pemilu, unit layanan disabilitas di perguruan tinggi, serta para ahli pendidikan kewarganegaraan, kesehatan, kebijakan publik, dan Pancasila. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa inisiatif pemberdayaan—seperti program filantropi, service learning, dan praktik pemilu inklusif—sudah ada, namun masih terfragmentasi, seremonial, dan terkendala lemahnya kolaborasi lintas sektor. Meski demikian, integrasi service learning dan kolaborasi pentahelix terbukti memperkuat kompetensi kewargaan, kepemimpinan pemuda, dan partisipasi inklusif di masyarakat. Kesimpulannya, model kewarganegaraan Pancasila memberi dasar normatif kuat untuk mengintegrasikan pemberdayaan disabilitas dalam pendidikan kewarganegaraan. Kontribusi penelitian ini adalah memperluas teori pendidikan kewarganegaraan melalui perspektif disabilitas serta menawarkan strategi praktis kolaborasi lintas sektor. Implikasinya, diperlukan kebijakan berkelanjutan dan praktik kewargaan kolaboratif untuk mewujudkan keadilan sosial yang inklusif.

This paper, starting from an accounting of internal and external demand, first examines the relationship between the two under strict conditions and then points out the preferences of different countries for internal demand and external demand by relaxing the hypothesis gradually.On the basis of general theories, the evolution of the relationship between internal and external demand in China's economic growth is studied to explain that expanding internal demand and establishing an open economic powerhouse driven by internal demand is a realistic choice.Specific suggestions on such aspects as investment, urbanization, income, consumption, and distribution are also proposed in the hope of being conducive to related future research.

PurposeThe purpose of the study was to investigate factors promoting innovation and application of internet of things in academic and research information organizations.Design/methodology/approachQuantitative research design involved survey of selected academic and research information organizations in public and private chartered institutions. Information professionals, digital content managers, information systems and technologists that normally consume big data and technological resources were involved in the process of data collection using structured questionnaire and content analysis. Information organizations and information practitioners were selected from public and private academic and research institutions.FindingsInnovation of internet of things has increasingly transformed and changed academic and research information organizations as the source of knowledge in addition to expanding access to education, data, information and communication anywhere anytime through hyperconnectivity and networking. Internet of things technologies such as mobile of things, web of things, digital information systems and personal devices are widely applied by digital natives in academic and research information organizations. Mobilization platform and devices is the single biggest provider of data, information and knowledge in academic and research organizations. Modern trends in education and knowledge practices in academic institutions and information organizations depends upon internet of things, digital repositories, electronic books and journals, social media interfaces, multimedia applications, information portal hubs and interactive websites, although challenges regarding inadequate information communication technology infrastructure and social computing facilities still persist.Research limitations/implicationsInformation organizations in public and private chartered academic and research institutions were adopted in the study. Respondents handling and supporting information management, planning and decision-making provided the necessary data. Information professionals, digital content managers, information systems and technologists are proactively involved in data and information analytics.Practical implicationsAcademic and research information organizations are powerhouses that provide knowledge to support research, teaching and learning for sustainable development and the betterment of humanity and society. Innovation of internet of things and associated technologies provides practical aspects of attaining sustainable information development practices in the contemporary knowledge society. Internet of things technologies, principles of economies of scale and investment and customer needs entail that information organizations and practitioners should provide appropriate and smart systems and solutions.Social implicationsModern academic and research information organizations have the social corporate responsibility to offer technological innovations to heighten access to knowledge and learning in academic and research institutions. Economically, innovation and application of internet of things provide unlimited access to big data and information in organizations all the time anywhere anytime.Originality/valueData management is a growing phenomenon that information practitioners need to fully understand in the digital economies. Information professionals need to embrace and appreciate innovation and application of internet of things technologies whose role in sustainable development practices is critical in academic and research organizations.

Special Job Exchanges, hereinafter abbreviated as BKK, are service units in secondary education units, higher education units, and job training institutions that provide manpower placement facilities to graduates related to the availability of job vacancies, data collection related to prospective workers, carry out debriefing and guidance activities, which Lastly is assistance. The Batam 1 SMK Negeri 1 Special Job Exchange has established partnerships or collaborations with 125 industrial companies, not only for apprenticeships, but also for job vacancies for graduates of SMKN 1 Batam. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of providing information and distributing labor (Case study of BKK SMKN 1 Batam). This study uses a qualitative descriptive research method. The data source for this research comes from primary data (18 informants) and secondary data (sourced from BKK). The results of the study were based on (1) indicators of achieving goals in an effort to increase the number of graduates being absorbed from special job fairs were not yet effective, (2) indicators of integration were already effective in terms of program socialization, and (3) indicators of adaptation from observations during the field showed that they had been effective. The conclusion of this study concludes that BKK is quite effective but its implementation has not been optimal. The suggestion from this research is to renew the strategy of the job market specifically in attracting companies to be able to recruit graduates so that the percentage of working graduates can increase every year.

Performance is the value of a set of behaviors that contribute negatively or positively to the achievement of organizational goals. In the Higher Education unit, efforts to improve Lecturer Task Performance require a leader who has competence and quality and professionalism who can manage all operational activities in an effort to achieve organizational goals. Transformational leadership can be a leadership approach model at this time, meaning that leadership can turn the potential of the institution into energy to improve the quality of Higher Education institutions and their environment. In addition, the variable organizational commitment is also a factor that influences organizational performance. This study aims to determine the Influence of Transformational Leadership and organizational commitment on the Task performance of the Lecturers at the University Muhammadiyah Jakarta. The research used the quantitative approach with the survey. Technically analyzed data is the influence of exogenous variables on the endogenous variables, the path analysis was used. As for respondents, samples of 250 lecturers were taken. The result of the research indicated that: 1) Transformational Leadership had a positive direct influence on Task performance; 2) Organizational Commitment had a positive direct influence on Task performance; and 3) Transformational Leadership had a positive direct influence on Organizational commitment. Thus, improving task performance can be done with good Transformational Leadership and organizational commitment

This chapter presents recent changes in Japanese higher education policy and analyzes its impact on higher education institutions in the post-massification era. It can be assumed that in the twenty-first century, economic forces will increasingly demand the production of new knowledge and the development of personnel through universities. No governments will be able to continue meeting such social demands for higher education without relatively abundant financing. Without question, Japan faces the same challenge. Both the private and public sectors of higher education in Japan will continue to confront limited financing, and issues of accountability will continue to emerge. In such environment, government control becomes stronger every than before. The issue of university governance has become a matter of extreme importance. Then, IR (institutional research) has been regarded as the effective tool for assisting university governance. As a result, IR offices will most likely become charged with the concrete responsibilities of collecting, quantifying and visualizing various types of internal university information, as well as managing such data in order to help the decision-making process for university governance. We conducted the nationwide survey for IR function for all Japanese four-year universities in 2014. This study will show the results of the survey and analyze the new role of IR of JHE. Then, this paper explores whether or not IR functions to support university governance in Japanese university and what kind of challenges we face in the post-massification stage.

The DeepStar program is a joint industry technology development program focused on advancing the technologies to meet its member's deepwater business needs in delivering increased reserves and production from deeper and deeper water depths. The program has been a successful collaboration between oil companies, vendors, regulators and academic and research institutes that are focused on creating value in the development of deepwater assets. The DeepStar program is in its 15th year and has operated through a phased approach, with each phase lasting approximately two years and focusing on specific deepwater needs, today DeepStar is in Phase VIII. This program is geared toward developing technology for operations in up to 10,000ft (3000m) water depth, enhancing the industry's ability to operate in 4000ft to 6000ft (1200m - 1800m), enabling oil tiebacks up to 50 miles (80km), HPHT in deepwater environments and improving the economic threshold for challenging deepwater reservoirs. DeepStar Phase VIII commenced in January 2006 with nine Oil Company Participants. DeepStar participants represent a strong mix of large and mid-size operators, USA and non-USA based, drawing in a rich array of diverse expertise to address common deepwater challenges. In addition, DeepStar currently has over 55 service and vendor companies, along with research and academic institutions who collaborate on technology solutions. With the passage of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, DeepStar has the opportunity to guide Department of Energy funds on the order of $15 million per year on ultra-deepwater technology. These funds will be managed through the Research Partnership to Secure Energy for America (RPSEA). DeepStar's role in RPSEA and the process by which these Ultra-Deepwater funds are directed is summarized. Introduction: The deepwater areas of the world have been shown to contain significant reserves and remain one of the best exploration and development opportunities for oil companies. As new exploration trends evolve the industry finds itself pursuing hydrocarbons in ever deeper water depths. The ultra-deepwater (greater than 1500 meters water depth) has presented the oil and gas industry with commercial and technical challenges which pushes the limits of current technology. Producing hydrocarbons in this challenging environment requires the advancement of technology and science in order bring those resources into production as reserves. A joint industry project called the DeepStar program was launched in 1992 as one means of moving the industry's current capabilities in deepwater technology into the future. Basically, DeepStar's initial objective is to identify and develop economically viable, safe, low-risk methods to produce hydrocarbons from deepwater. Founded under the name "Deepwater Staged Recovery System", the initial goal of DeepStar was to advance what was then perceived to be the future plan for developing deepwater fields primarily for the Gulf of Mexico - long subsea tiebacks from 3000ft (900m) water depths to the existing shelf infrastructure. But as technology and operations evolved, so did DeepStar and the group quickly broadened its scope to include all aspects of deepwater operations worldwide ranging from exploration and drilling to production and transportation.

Under the new normal of the economy where informatization and industrialization are deeply integrated, the balanced development of economy and ecology is increasingly important. How to promote the development of green innovation through policy means under the conditions of informatization and realize the balanced development of economy and ecology is a key issue for the government.. The development of informatization has facilitated the dissemination of information, knowledge, and funds between enterprises and academic institutions, promoted the establishment of mutual trust and cooperation between enterprises and academic institutions, and improved the efficiency of green technology knowledge conversion. Based on the evolutionary game theory, this paper constructs a game model of green innovation cooperation between government, industry, University and Research Institute, analyzes the strategy selection of government, enterprise and university research side in the game process, and studies the stability of green innovation cooperation of government, industry, University and Research Institute. The analysis results show that default fines, excess income, government subsidies, etc. have an impact on the benefits of green innovation, and on this basis, relevant policy recommendations are put forward for government-industry-university-research green innovation cooperation under the conditions of informatization.

T he need for the principle of gender equality to be established in all national and European programs is increasingly recognized in European Union (EU) member countries. On average, only 9% of top research positions in the EU are held by women, despite the fact that women now constitute 50% of first-degree students in many EU countries.* And the percentages of women professors are increasing only slowly, at a rate of around 0.5 to 1.0% per year. Forward-looking education and research policy must create the prerequisites for a fair representation of women in all areas and at all levels; simply to wait for gender balance is not an option. One of the German government's primary goals is to increase the participation of women in science and research in Germany, particularly in positions of leadership at higher education and research institutions. In 1998, only 6% of full professorial positions at German universities and about 4% of positions of leadership at German nonuniversity research institutions were held by women. In the same year, about 14% of full professors in the United States and France were female.[*][1] The situation in Germany is completely unsatisfactory and underlines the need for action. The forthcoming generational shift, especially at German higher education institutions where many of the researchers hired in the 1970s will be retiring soon, presents an opportunity to significantly increase the proportion of women in positions of leadership. A new program, entitled Equal Opportunities for Women in Research and Higher Education, which starts in 2001, is designed to help us reach our goal of 20% female professorships at German universities by 2005. Other programs aimed at advancing the careers of young postdoctoral researchers require 40% of new hires to be female. In the autumn of 1998, the supervisory bodies of the 16 largest national research centers in the Federal Republic of Germany, which together form the Hermann von Helmholtz Association (HGF), adopted basic policy decisions on gender equality in an initiative of the Federal Ministry for Education and Research. In these research institutions, women hold only about 2% of leadership positions, a situation that is clearly unacceptable. Under the new policy, equal opportunity commissioners are to be appointed at the executive level, and staff development plans with specific targets for gender equality for the next 5 years are to be submitted for all areas of scientific staff. In addition, in the federal budget for 1999, we have created 100 permanent employment opportunities in research institutions that are designed specifically to help women reach top leadership positions, and we have established a framework for specific programs for women in leadership positions. For example, a program entitled A Springboard for Advancement (Anstos zum Aufstieg), which was started at HGF centers but which we aim to extend to other research institutes such as the Max Planck Institutes, provides leadership training, coaching, and mentoring for female scientists as well as assistance with systematic career planning and networking. Also, it is now possible, for the first time, for research institutes to offer child care facilities that are funded out of their regular budgets. In addition to these programs, strategic projects such as the Centre of Excellence Women and Science, an information resource providing international networking facilities and expert databases, are designed to bring about structural change and raise awareness. We are also actively supporting the International Women's University's EXPO 2000, where 900 female researchers will work together for 100 days, and are introducing an auditing program monitoring the human resource policies of universities and research insitutes. Encouraging gender equality is essential for innovation and international competitiveness in education, science, and industry. Fair representation of women will help us broaden the basis of scientific questions, methods, and approaches; foster change; improve research quality; and bring about a fairer distribution of resources. ‘Mind the gap’

The purpose of the article is to consider the aim and social functions of higher professional education and to argue that professional competence of a higher level can be obtained if only higher education continues to be quite a certain level in the system of education as a whole and will not be identified with elementary levels of enlightenment or practical skills. In order to argue that higher education is neither a privilege or destiny of the few, nor the sum of elementary knowledge and skills such research questions are considered as: the differences between higher education and enlightenment; the special purpose of higher humanitarian education and its functions in the development of the spiritual culture of university′s graduates; the type of identity formation of which is included in the scope of social responsibility of higher education. It is asserted by the author that higher education is connected with the knowledge of such a level of complexity that requires from a student considerable force, constraints, and persistence to cope with. Higher humanitarian education is associated with significant changes in the level of understanding and in the ability to analyze the information, in the degree of awareness and critical perception of reality. Scientific knowledge, on which formation of specialist with higher education is based, carries in itself universality and intersubjectivity, which are going beyond any social role or type of socio-cultural identity.

IntroductionNational Immunization Technical Advisory Groups (NITAGs) are multidisciplinary groups of national experts who provide independent advice to policy makers on issues related to immunisation and vaccines, based on evidence and the national context. On the other hand, academic institutions can be described as organisations dedicated to education and research. These include schools, colleges, universities and research centres that offer formal education, conduct scholarly research and contribute to knowledge in various fields. NITAGs can enhance their capacity by linking with academic institutions and leveraging scientific expertise in research, data analysis, modelling, resource procurement and management, and policy formulation. The proposed landscape analysis will explore the links between NITAGs and academic institutions, especially in the sub-Saharan African context, and, where such exist, document their characteristics and identify benefits, challenges and best practices for fostering such linkages.Methods and analysisThis landscape analysis will use an adaptation of the WHO’s quick guide manual on ‘Performing a landscape analysis: Understanding health product research and development’. The planned landscape analysis will be conducted in two parts. The first part will entail a review of published literature to identify relevant documents on linkages between NITAGs and academic institutions. The second part will entail conducting key informant interviews with NITAG members, partners and other identified key stakeholders in two study countries: Ethiopia and Zambia. The transcribed scripts will be thematically analysed. The findings from both parts will be synthesised and presented as a descriptive landscape analysis report.Ethics and disseminationThe protocol of the parent study has been reviewed and approved by the Human Research Ethics Committee of the University of Cape Town (Reference 417/2025). It has also been approved by the Biomedical Research Ethics Committee of the University of Zambia (REF. NO. 6760-2025) and the Ethiopian Public Health Association (EPHA/06/392/25).
