Abstract

Since the approach takes into account the uncontrolled residual modes, it will not only optimize them, based on an actual performance index affected by the residual modes, but will also suppress the spillover instability. The approach is applied to the design of a controller for a simple supported beam. The example demonstrates that the resulting controller is stable even when the linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) controller is unstable. Insensitivity of the resulting system to parameter variations is also demonstrated in comparison with the LQG controller
