Interactivity in broadcasting and its application to ISDB services

Several security mechanisms have been investigated and deployed that provide protection for real time platforms. Each security mechanism is contributed to enhance the SCADA system security, but at the same time, the mechanism is limited and depended on the other protocols for the purposes of message security, and its delivery. Few researches are conducted on security for SCADA broadcasting system, but these are limited to end-to-end designs and developments. The security developments for multicasting and broadcasting systems are much complicated, time consumed and/or overloaded with the cryptography mechanisms. After conducting the detail survey, a simulation environment for SCADA water pumping system is designed in-which number of nodes is configured and well known cryptography algorithms are selected, and deployed as an inclusive development for SCADA/DNP3 broadcasting system. The inclusive security development is considered with the best performance, and with predominant weakness in mind, which are present in SCADA/DNP3 broadcasting system. However, overall communication is initiated, monitored and controlled at main controller side with the user defined human machine interface (HMI).

This paper reports the development of a substation training simulation system. The simulation system operates on the basic of the combination of three software including Vijeo Designer, Unity Pro and Matlab. The first two software are used to simulate the Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Remote terminal Unit/Programmable Logic Controller ((RTU/PLC), respectively. The third software, Matlab, calculates parameters of different operating conditions of the substation. The system has been designed as a training device which allows users to gain hands on experience in relation to substation operation. It is also used as a tool to assess and enhance the skills of current substation operators. This simulation system is the first of its kind to be developed and applied in Vietnam.

In order to verify the performance of the designed temperature controller of the plastic extruder using supercritical CO <inf xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">2</inf> , we developed a Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) simulation system. The specified HIL simulation system was founded upon the NI products, while the temperature controller and its accessorial parts were constructed in Matlab/Simulink environment. Labview and Simulink were combined together with NI Simulation Interface Toolkit (SIT), and a friendly Human Machine Interface (HMI) was developed and implemented in the host computer by using TCP/IP protocol for data communication. The result showed that the designed temperature control algorithm had better effect when used in the plastic extruder production field. This HIL simulation system can shorten the development cycle and cost, improve the design level of the control system, and provide a solution to the demonstration of the controller in the real-time mode. Meanwhile, the HMI solved the problem of real-time monitoring in the process of the HIL simulation. What's more, this simulation system can be applied in other process control fields as flow, pressure, etc.

To simulate and debug or diagnose manufacturing systems is always challenging. This paper presents a hybrid PLC-controlled and PC Visual Basic (VB)-based Human-Machine Interface (HMI) platform based on Petri net (PN) theory for Manufacturing Systems. An augmented PN model was adopted to design and simulate the operational sequence of the Flexible Manufacturing System (FMS) at the National Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology (NKFUST). With the simulated PN model, the control sequences were quickly translated into PLC programs. A PC-based HMI monitoring system based on the PN model was developed to provide an intuitive offline simulation and online diagnostic tools for the FMS. This hybrid system shows many of advantages by using the economical discrete control unit with PLC, and PC-based HMI using PN model as a base. The discrete event control sequence of an FMS can be easily modeled and evaluated before its build-up. More importantly, it can be diagnosed online when the system is malfunctioning. That is, the presented system provides an adequate means for offline system design, simulation, performance evaluation, and quick online system diagnostic.

We are studying a novel concept of the on-line hospital system using a virtual environment called “Hyper Hospital”. The “Hyper Hospital” is a medical care system which is constructed in a distributed electronic information network using virtual reality (VR) as a human interface. In the present study, physiological and psychological responses of healthy young male subjects were measured by controlled experiments. Some physiological indices such as heart rate, blood pressure, and urinary catecholamine release showed statistically significant differences between results of control experiments using non-VR stimuli and results of VR loading experiments. However they were thought to be mainly from non VR origin. Subjective fatigue was complained by some sujects and they were thought to be indicating a direction of an improvement of our VR system in future. In conclusion, our VR system was proven to be safe when it is used for light medical purpose.

Traditional flow control systems are hard to reach the goal of high-precision and high-speed due to the volatility, nonlinearity and large disturbance of the flow. To solve the problem, a real-time flow control system based on fuzzy PID was designed in the paper, which used ID3 algorithm of the decision tree to calculate information gain and select the best decision to formulate fuzzy control rules. The design selects Siemens PLC as control core, combining with electromagnetic Flow Meter, Regulating Valve and Human Machine Interface. Finally, results of simulation and experiments of this control method show that the control system has favorable dynamic and static characteristics.

Emotional expressions serve a crucial role in interpersonal communication between people while improving social life. In particular, information security systems for visual surveillance that aim to recognize human emotional facial states are highly relevant today. Facial expressions are among the most effective and straightforward means of nonverbal interaction in systems with a human-machine interface. Despite significant scientific and engineering advances in emotion recognition, there are still several challenges in improving the performance of real-time human-machine systems that might work more effectively. In this work, a method of facial geometric feature representation is proposed to improve the operation of security systems. The method is designed to automatically reflect the facial expressions of human emotions in the form of quantitative characteristics of geometric shapes. It uses software-generated landmarks for constructing specific geometric characteristics of the face, which serve as input for the method. Our method consists in forming seven geometric shapes based on predefined landmarks, with the subsequent quantitative expression of these shapes. It was established within the method that the movement of the landmarks when changing facial expressions directly changed the value of each geometric shape. The method outputs the quantitative features of seven shapes, later used to classify emotional facial states. Finally, our method was validated using hyperplane classification. The results of computational experiments confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method for identifying changes in a person’s emotional state by facial expressions. In addition, the use of simple mathematical calculations in our method has significantly reduced the computational complexity against analogs.

: RAND's current research agenda involves not only the development of new tools and techniques but also applications of those tools to current policy analysis issues. Recent research contributions include work in simulation methodology, parallel processing, and man-machine interface designs. This Note presents examples of this research: an interactive algebra tutor; an expert system designed to assist claims adjusters in asbestos litigation; a database management system applied to a network of emergency communications stations; and strategic and tactical wargaming applications. Now, as in the past, RAND provides a unique environment for information sciences research. An ongoing history of pure research has made key artificial intelligence and other computing techniques available to RAND scientists. The scientists have in turn recognized the powerful potential of these techniques and have used them effectively to address a variety of problems. At RAND, the analyst seeking the answer to an important policy question works side by side with computer specialists who strive to build new tools for the analyst's quest. We have designed and constructed a column parallel vision (CPV) system to realize an intelligent and general-purpose image processing system with higher frame rate within 1 millisecond. In this paper, we have constructed a compact CPV system (CPV4) by using newly designed and developed PE-array chip integrating 128×128 processing elements for fully parallel processing. By using the PE-array chip, we can construct a compact CPV system by three semiconductor chips of sensor, PE-array and controller. We have demonstrated the CPV 4 for stereovision by using two-camera input setup and high-speed computing power of matching operation. The results of stereovision experiment show the CPV4 has adequate processing speed for depth map calculation with several advantages such as a higher-clock rate operation and lower electric power consumption in compact module. This improvement can let a system fit wider applications, such as robot-eye, FA-inspection, man-machine interface, that require the characteristics of high-speed image capturing, processing and compactness.

Scientific literature and lab experiments on different aqueous liquid samples, are showing important and significant role of liquid state properties for getting few characteristics similar to electronics in solid state. Such studies show possibility of applying the development in field of advanced biological study and therapies involving health monitoring system, quick disease detection, man-machine interface (cyborg-implant), various implants and even in physical phenomenon about liquids and their electronic characteristics. However, these studies are limited and yet to reach the state of the art mark, yet possible future outcomes are attracting attention of many scientists and researchers now days, from both academia and industries. This informative review article shows cumulative results of few experiments in this direction. Summary of concepts of realization of electronic elements in liquid state is included along with discussion and few original verification works. Referred articles are showing concept and electronic-like characteristics development of diode, transistor, memristor and amplifier developed using aqueous liquid samples including human blood serum.

본 논문에서는 IEEE 802.11 기술에 기반 한 멀티미디어 멀티캐스트 및 브로드캐스트 기법의 성능을 향상시키기 위한 기법을 제안한 다. 제안하는 기법은 차세대 무선랜 표준의 다중 사용자 전송 환경에서의 피드백 기반 멀티캐스트 및 브로드캐스트 기법으로 프레임에 대한 응답 정보를 통해 프레임의 손실 확률을 낮추는 방법을 제시하고 있다. 제안하는 기법을 사용하면 멀티캐스트 및 브로드캐스트 그룹의 크기에 상관없이 제안하는 기법의 동시 전송 NAK 프레임을 통해 송신 단말에게 프레임 수신 정보를 전달할 수 있게 된다. NAK 프레임을 수신한 멀티캐스트 및 브로드캐스트 송신 단말은 구체적인 프레임 수신 정보를 추가적으로 수집하거나 재전송을 수행함으로써 특히 불특정 다수의 단말로 전송하는 지능형교통체계 (intelligent transport system)의 브로드캐스트 서비스나 높은 처리량과 신뢰도를 요구하는 여객 엔터테인먼트 멀티미디어 서비스에서 매우 큰 성능 향상을 보여준다. 본 논문의 분석 결과에 따르면 제안하는 기법은 무선랜 멀티캐스트 및 브로드캐스트 성능을 크게 향상시키는 것으로 나타난다. In this paper, a novel multiple multicast feed-back scheme for improving multimedia multicast and broadcast system based on IEEE 802.11. The proposed scheme improves multicast PPDU delivery ratio of next generation wireless LAN by utilizing multicast feed-back information. By using the proposed scheme, regardless of its size of multicast group, an AP STA could collect transmission failure information by receiving simultaneous NAK frame. The proposed scheme shows large performance enhancement in broadcast or multicast system of Intelligent Transport System and Passenger Entertainment Service. According to the analysis results, the proposed scheme could enhance wireless LAN multicast and broadcast performance significantly.

Recent advances in communication and mobile computing have made it possible for cellular networks and digital broadcasting systems to converge on the basis of their common multimedia applications. We analyze the real-time characteristics of a cdma2000 1xEV-DO broadcast and multicast service (BCMCS) system, and propose a system architecture to provide seamless multimedia services. We found that jitter in the processing time of the Reed-Solomon decoder can lead to a discontinuity in multimedia streaming, and we therefore estimated the Reed-Solomon decoding time on a common mobile platform for a given bit error-rate or fading margin in the channel. Next we evaluated the jitter bound and the best cache size for real-time applications in BCMCS. This analysis allows us to suggest a system architecture based on the jitter-EDD model to ensure the continuity of real-time services for multimedia applications over a 3G cellular broadcast network, and to provide a better quality of service.

The application of traditional three-axis milling machine center is very popular and the related application technology is also much matured resulting in mechanical components to be machined with good quality. Machine tool has therefore become an inevitable facility in precision manufacturing. Furthermore, the pursuit of higher precision machining has thus demanding five-axis machine tool to be adopted owing to its flexibility and capability in machining more precise mechanical components in shorter time. However, one of the key factors for the popularity in smooth introduction of five-axis machine tool would be based on a very user friendly learning and teaching environment. This is partly because two more rotational axes in a five-axis machine tool could generate very complex toolpath movement that is out of the imagination of a general operator. Furthermore, the price of an industrial five-axis machine tool is not normally affordable by an educational institute; to the worse, the maintenance cost is also very high. There is very high risk for a novice to collide during the learning process and this will generally cause big worry of a teacher. This paper aims for the development of a virtual machining center simulation system with switchable modular components to ease the learning process in getting acquainted with a five-axis machine tool. A five-axis machine tool consists generally of two modules: (1) CNC controller and Operation panel, and (2) machine tool hardware. The developed system will provide the novice with four CNC controller with operation human machine interface (HMI), and three typical types of five-axis machine tool, Head-Head (HH), Head-Table (HT), and Table-Table (TT), are also supported. The developed modularized and switchable machining center simulation system has been successfully developed and is very helpful to both learner and teacher

Remote welding robot system may be used for nuclear components maintenance, space assemble, underwater structures repair. This paper describes the remote welding robot system (RWRS) based on shared control. The paper introduces the structure of remote welding robot system, stereo vision system, autonomous seam-tracking system, the human-machine interface and graphics simulation system of teleoperation.

A novel hardware-in-loop (HIL) ground experiment system is proposed in this paper where the corresponding movement of drogue under external interference can be realized according to the digital simulation results obtained from Matlab. The whole system is composed of simulation subsystem modeled by multi-rigid-body dynamics, two-dimensional moveable platform, human-machine interface and motion control system. Data stream from Matlab to industrial computer is transferred by ethernet with UDP protocal and PCI-1245E is employed to transform position data to impulse signals for the sake of driving the servomotor. Experimental results manifest that effectiveness of hardware-in-loop ground experiment system where accurate motion of drogue in relation to simulation results can be achieved with high real-time performance.
