This study is a narrative review that aimed at exploring the benefits, risks, and policy controls of Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) for maximum and effective BYOD adoption. BYOD is a paradigm where employees use their personal devices such as Smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc., to access organizations’ enterprise resources such as email, file servers, and database contents and networks. Significant empirical evidence from literature revealed that 82% of organizations have a BYOD program, while 68% of organizations see a jump in productivity after switching to BYOD. Despite these important virtues, numerous investigations have shown that threats and attacks on organization data and resources: confidentiality, integrity, and availability are the greatest security concern in BYOD environment. In this study, the authors adopted a narrative review methodology. A search, using keywords, was conducted and fifty-five peer-reviewed journal papers within the last 5 years of this study were identified. These journals came from Pro Quest databases, ScienceDirect, Taylor and Francis, Crossref.com, Walden University collection of scholarly and peer-reviewed journals, and other related texts. Inclusion and exclusion criteria were applied, followed by a quality appraisal of the selected articles, before data were extracted. Results show that good BYOD policies, guidelines, and practices coupled with good controls and management may avert security breaches on employees' and organizations' devices and resources. Results also show that it is possible to use machine learning approaches to handle threats and attacks such as persistent threats, data leakage, and data theft, denial of service (DOS) attack, intrusion attack, and untrusted network in BYOD environment. Findings may positively impact and equip organizations and employees with proven information for successful security and risk management programs that may increase mutual trust and a healthy BYOD adoption environment.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is a business policy that provides flexibility and productivity to the employees of the companies, organizations, or establishments that adopt it. In this work, a study was carried out to know the formal use of personal mobile devices for work activities, using collection techniques such as surveys and interviews. In this sense, it was analyzed whether or not people officially use BYOD. The main results showed that a significant number of workers use the trend informally from their smartphone, while others are not using it, but they have the availability to do so. Finally, it is proposed to develop an action plan that helps use Bring Your Own Device with adequate data protection and mitigation in the loss of information.

ABSTRACTThe current method of attendance recording can be done in various way. Ranging from conventional method that using a piece of paper, or more advanced technology such as finger print, face recognition, retina, RFID and using a QR Code. From several choices of attendance system methods, especially for recording student attendance, QR Code offers a cheap and effective solution. This is possible thanks to the use of smart phones that have become common needs, students bring their own ponsel pintar or known as Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). In this study, the camera feature is used to record attendance using the QR Code (Quick Response Code). The QR Code feature has become a hot topic especially in terms of dynamic publication of URL links such as payment transactions, login processes and attendance systems. By combining the QR Code and BYOD methods, it is expected that the attendance system can be done more cheaply and accurately compared to other methods. So that the attendance process becomes faster and more precise. This study also discusses more deeply the comparison of attendance methods and the attendance prototype design using the QR Code and BYOD.Keywords: Attendance Information System, Quick Response Code, BYOD.ABSTRAKProses absensi saat ini dapat dilakukan dengan berbagai cara, mulai dari absen secara manual dengan menggunakan kertas, secara system dengan menggunakan finger print, face recognition, retina, menggunakan kartu RFID dan yang terbaru dengan menggunakan QR Code. Dari beberapa pilihan metode system absensi, terutama untuk system absensi mahasiswa di sebuah perguruan tinggi, QR Code merupakan pilihan tepat dan murah karena saat mahasiswa memiliki ponsel pintar dan mereka membawa sendiri ponsel pintarnya atau dikenal dengan istilah Bring Your Own Device (BYOD). Pada penelitian ini fitur kamera dimanfaatkan untuk melakukan pencatatan kehadiran dengan menggunakan QR Code(Quick Response Code). Fitur QR Code telah menjadi topik hangat terutama dalam hal publikasi dinamis tautan URL such as transaksi pembayaran, proses login dan system absensi. Dengan penggabungan metode QR Code dan BYOD maka diharapkan system absensi dapat dilakukan dengan lebih murah dan akurat dibandingan dengan metode lainnya. Sehingga proses absensi menjadi lebih cepat dan tepat. Pada penelitian juga dibahas lebih dalam mengenai perbandingan metode-metode absensi dan rancang bangun prototype system absensi dengan menggunakan QR Code dan BYOD.Kata Kunci : Sistem Informasi Kehadiran, Quick Response Code, BYOD.

Despite that BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) technology model has been increasingly adopted in education, few studies have been reported on how to integrate various apps on BYOD into inquiry-based pedagogical practices in primary schools. This article reports a case study, examining what apps on BYOD can help students enhance their science learning, and how students develop their science knowledge in a seamless inquiry-based learning environment supported by these apps. A variety of qualitative data were collected and analyzed. The findings show that the affordances of the apps on BYOD could help students improve their science knowledge without time and place constraints and gain a better sense of ownership in learning.

With increasing development and adoption of information and communication technology initiatives internationally, evolving trends such as bring your own device (BYOD) is rapidly changing operational methods of organizations in attempt to improve efficiency and productivity. However, for organizations to successfully benefit from BYOD, several dynamics relating to security and privacy in BYOD environments must be examined and understood. This article reviews information security and privacy, mobile computing, and current organizational practices that shed light on BYOD and the issues behind its adoption. The review will assist organizations and IT professionals to understand the increasing demands of BYOD, and its challenges.

Bring your own device (BYOD) is used for the benefits offered by allowing the use of mobile devices to perform business tasks, but the following questions should be analysed if any organisation want to adopt a BYOD environment: What threats do currently face mobile devices that are being used in BYOD environments? What are the characteristics of the security models proposed until now in order to manage BYOD? Are there integral security models with the minimum requirements in order to take full advantage of BYOD? What are the basic controls that should be taken into account for designing security policies in a business with a BYOD environment? What are the main differences between security on BYOD environments vs. security on corporate owned mobile device environments, regarding how easy is to meet security needs? By giving answers to these questions, we will be able to have a clear vision of what it takes to adopt BYOD in an organisation.

In the new electronic era, the increasing amounts of various resources make it more difficult to use information at workplace. Bring your own device (BYOD) makes employee in the business organization to handle these various information resources in the fashion way. BYOD, such as notebook and smart phone at work has become the usual and normal trend in the workplace. People deal their daily job with these devices. Trends such as the influx of workers' own devices into the workplace will require more flexible and creative management style in order to maintain the performance as usual. This study examined the theoretical framework guiding research on work design and psychological climate, consider context of BYOD, and evaluate evidence on the processes assumed to underlie these associations. The results provide support that psychological meaningfulness has significant influence on psychological safety which will positively contribute to job performance. Information processing positively contribute to psychological meaningfulness, while work-life conflict will sabotage the formation of psychological meaningfulness. Interaction outside organization is significantly related to psychological safety, while life-work conflict has a negative effect. The findings reveal that BYOD provides opportunities for employees to redefine their work. Instead of passively taking the work, employees can proactively determine the method and process of work with the BYOD.

: The term BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) refers to the use of employees' personal devices (for example smartphones, tablets, laptops, netbooks) to do their work and manage corporate data from anywhere at any time. BYOD has been widely applied in the business world, hospitals, and education. With the ease that can be achieved by using BYOD, the security aspect is very important to consider. It starts with the security of the device to the security of company data that can be accessed by employees. Five dimensions of security control that must be considered in implementing BYOD: 1) data control; 2) access control; 3) network access control; 4) device management; 5) create a supporting framework. With the five BYOD implementation solutions presented in this study, there is only one solution that accommodates the five dimensions of BYOD security control, the use of Mobile Device Management (MDM) technology.

BackgroundOphthalmic examinations are mostly documented using sketches and written descriptions. Improvements in app security and IT infrastructure mean that high-quality anterior segment photographs can be routinely collected with smartphones alone. The lid oncology team relied on pre-operative formal slit-lamp imaging in the one-stop biopsy clinic, a lengthy process with capacity limitations, that risked delays to care.MethodsA Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) photography service was developed through a series of iterations and collaborations. Healthcare Assistants took photographs on iPhone SE with Quikvue lens attachments in Pando app. Lesions requiring a slit lamp were photographed by the doctor. Images were uploaded to the patient record twice weekly. The service was evaluated using time–motion studies, imaging quality and utility grading, and patient feedback.ResultsBYOD photography saved lid oncology patients 41 min (one-third of total appointment time) and reduced delays to treatment to zero. A patient survey reflected the acceptability of the service, with 100% feeling photography was important at every visit. In terms of utility, 97.5% of smartphone images were suitable for monitoring lesions and making management decisions. The management plan based on the smartphone photographs was consistent with the management plan formulated face-to-face in clinic in 92.5% images.ConclusionBYOD photography has replaced formal slit-lamp imaging in the lid oncology service. This sustainable, cost-effective BYOD solution requires little training and can be adapted, reproduced, and scaled globally. BYOD photography can offer detailed records to monitor progress, contribute to remote care models, improve patient experience, and reducing medical error.

Bring your own device (BYOD) paradigm that permits employees to come with their own mobile devices to join the organizational network is rapidly changing the organizational operation method by enhancing flexibility, productivity, and efficiency. Despite these benefits, security issues remain a concern in organizational settings. A considerable number of studies have been conducted and published in this domain without a detailed review of the security solution mechanisms. Moreover, some reviews conducted focused more on conventional approaches such as mobile content management, and application content management. Hence, the implementation of security in BYOD using the conventional method is ineffective. Thus, machine learning approaches seem to be the promising approach, which provides a solution to the security problem in the BYOD environment. This study presents a comprehensive systematic mapping review that focused on the application of the machine learning approach for the mitigation of security threats and attacks in the BYOD environment by highlighting the current trends in the existing studies. Five academic databases were searched and a total of 753 of the primary studies published between 2012 and 2021 were initially retrieved. These studies were screened based on their title, abstract and full text to check their eligibility and relevance for the study. However, forty primary studies were included and analyzed in the systematic mapping review (SMR). Based on the analysis and bubble plot mapping, significant research trends were identified on security threats and attacks, machine learning approaches, datasets usage, and evaluation metrics. The SMR result demonstrates the rise in the number of investigations regarding malware and unauthorized access to existing security threats and attacks. The SMR study indicates that supervised learning approaches such as SVM, DT, and RF are the most employed learning model by the previous research. Thus, there is an open research issue in the application of unsupervised learning approaches such as clustering and deep learning approaches. Therefore, the SMR has set the pace for creating new ground research in the machine learning implementation in the BYOD environment, which will offer invaluable insight into the study field, and researchers can employ it to find a research gap in the research domain.

Literature evidently shows that many organizations have enabled Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) for their employees as an immediate strategy to cushion the risks of disruption to their business operations. Though these types of environments were typically not designed to support an organization's entire workforce, it certainly made the transition easier as BYOD policy offers organizational flexibility, efficiency, and collaboration in remote work-from-home cases. Although BYOD brings many benefits to organizations and employees, cybersecurity on one endpoint is a critical concern for organizations. Cyber intruders will capitalize on any cybersecurity vulnerabilities to steal valuable data. While organizations have established BYOD security policy as a basis, the issue is whether the teleworkers comply with it. Protection Motivation Theory is used to explain the action taken by teleworkers to protect themselves when under attack and how accounting teleworker's behavior to avoid cyber threat. Intention compliance has been studied by many researchers and recently, there was a call from a researcher to study the actual compliance in ISSPs due to a gap between intention and actual compliance. Hence, ensuring BYOD security policy compliance is crucial among the teleworkers. This paper, supported by Protection Motivation Theory (PMT) in addressing gaps in the literature, presents a conceptual model that examines determinants of BYOD security policy compliance among Malaysian teleworkers. The role of the perceived cybersecurity governance is also incorporated to investigate its interplay with the determinants.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) as reversed IT adoption: Insights into managers’ coping strategies

In the period of the last few decades, more complex technology have been integrated into our daily lives. Therefore, teachers are advocating that students BYOD (bring your own device). This aims are investigated the activities of students during the lesson, which enables teachers to evaluate their students' progress in learning. In addition to this, students' learning experiences and raise their levels of satisfaction with their education with Nearpod and the dynamic interaction that occurs between them. Descriptive statistics were used for the analysis. Descriptive data for the questions and items were compiled in Excel, and included frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation. The goal of this research is to explore how female students feel about using Nearpod in conjunction with a video-conferencing learning system on a Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) learning platform. This study was conducted at Universitas Muhammadiyah Purwokerto (n = 78 students) and Purwokerto Secondary School in Central Java (n = 83 students and 9 teachers), during the even semester of the 2020/2021 school year. The objectives of this study required the development and administration of a questionnaire to all of the women enrolled in the "Mathematics Education" course. Researchers concluded from their study that students are open to using their own devices in class and are willing to benefit from the affordances provided by the BYOD platform and the Nearpod to engage in active learning during lectures. Therefore, there has to be more work done by universities to figure out which of the growing elements of education should be prioritized in order to create the best possible conditions for instruction and learning.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) is a new trend where employees use their personal devices to connect to their organization networks to access sensitive information and work-related systems. One of the primary challenges in BYOD is to securely delete company data when an employee leaves an organization. In common BYOD programs, the personal device in use is completely wiped out. This may lead to the deletion of personal data during exit procedures. Due to performance and deletion latency, erasure of data in most file systems today results in unlinking the file location and marking data blocks as unused. This may suffice the need of a normal user trying to delete unwanted files but the file content is not erased from the data blocks and can be retrieved with the help of various data recovery and forensic tools. In this paper, we discuss: (1) existing work related to secure deletion, and (2) secure and selective deletion methods that delete only the required files or directories without tampering personal data. We present two per-file deletion methods: Overwriting data and Encryption based deletion which erase specific files securely. Our proposed per-file deletion methods reduce latency and performance overheads caused by overwriting an entire disk.

This study was an examination of 20 North Texas high school teachers' perceptions about the effects of bring your own device (BYOD) initiatives on instructional planning and classroom environment. The BYOD initiative at two high school campuses was studied through a qualitative approach, i.e. a collective case study. Data were collected through interviews, classroom observations, and reviews of participants' lesson planning documents. The findings indicated teachers had to plan for inequitable technology access, technology support, effective classroom management, and relevant content to support student learning effectively. Teachers participated in professional development focused on planning for student devices, effective use of instructional technology, and classroom management during this type of instruction. Results revealed that, during instruction that included students' devices, teachers believed student engagement and content retention were greater. Observation data also indicated that students were more engaged in the instruction. The interviews and classroom observations indicated that students assumed a more active role in their learning during these lessons, and teachers facilitated and provided more support as needed. Effective planning and classroom management were identified as key components in the success of this type of initiative. Overall, the study supports the necessity for relevant professional development for teachers and campus administrators to ensure the success of BYOD initiatives. Similarly, these two groups should work together to develop the campus framework to support BYOD technology in the classroom.
