For those concerned with teaching and scholarly work in higher education now, talk of 'academic leadership' is everywhere. In the UK, at any rate, it seems so: scanning academic jobs pages, looking at Research Councils' funding schemes, examining government policy documents on higher education, consulting university promotions and appraisals procedures, mulling academic workload calculations, and listening to deliberations in university committees—all these suggest that the phrase academic leadership has, so to speak, gone viral in a contained way. There are more scholarly sounding publications on the subject than specialists can keep up with; numerous well-endowed firms offer academic-leadership training and guidance; think tanks constantly urge the need to nurture more academic leaders and corporations that can cultivate them; newspapers inform of the privileges of top-level academic leaders with grudging admiration.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has very soon changed numerous aspects, and the world of digital media is no exception. With its ability to replicate human-like intelligence and learning capabilities, AI has opened up new possibilities for enhancing various aspects of digital media creation, distribution, and consumption. From personalized content recommendations to advanced image and video editing techniques, AI applications are revolutionizing how human beings interact with digital media. This study searches for a comprehensive and systematic literature review to explore the impact of AI in the digital media world. The objective is to offer a detailed examination of how AI is being integrated into various aspects of digital media areas. This has been achieved in this study through an analysis of existing research, news and reports updates, and scholarly works. The problem statement is that there exists a lack of inclusive research examining the complex implications and applications of AI integration. The current studies more focus on specific sub-fields or isolated examples of AI adoption, resulting in a disjointed knowledge base. A complete understanding of the larger impact of AI in digital media has been described for decision-making, policy development, and strategies. The methodology used in this study is to examine the existing literature on digital media. The population is several bibliographical resources and the samples are 104 news research reports, journal papers, scholarly articles, and other sources that have been systematically reviewed and studied in this research during Jan-March 2024. The study is qualitative research and several techniques have been applied to the secondary data which are: Literary Search technique, inclusion and exclusion technique, and selection and extraction technique as the data mainly relies on secondary data. The results of this study show how AI has changed the media industry by enabling automated data analysis and enhancing content creation and curation. Furthermore, AI-powered image recognition technologies have greatly influenced visual media production. Through deep learning algorithms, computers can now accurately identify objects within images or videos. The results highlight the need for moral guidelines, skill-updating techniques, and ethical AI practices. As AI advances, we can expect even more innovative applications that will shape the future of digital media. Furthermore, the study will identify any existing research gaps and propose recommendations for future research, policy, and practical applications. While efficiency, customization, and creativity are advantages of AI, privacy issues, job displacement, and algorithmic bias require careful study. Scholars, professionals, and policymakers must hold the implications of AI's influence as it becomes increasingly universal across various societal domains.

The critical literature on Chinese life writing has expanded rapidly in the past two decades: while only a handful of studies were produced before the 1990s, the past two decades have seen the publication of specialised monographs and essay collections, several dozen scholarly articles and a growing body of translations. That has produced a collection of very rich and scholarly works that, in their individual insights, do much to advance our understanding of categories of life narratives as historical sources, life narratives as artefacts and life writing as social practice. We are currently engaged in a very important intellectual exercise-no less important, indeed, than that undertaken by the 19th century “founding fathers” of public law, such as Laferrière in France, Gerber, Laband and Mayer in Germany, and Orlando and Romano in Italy. Scholars in New York, Rome, Heidelberg and elsewhere are working on a new area of legal theory and practice: that of global law. This scholarly work has three main features. It is, firstly, a truly global effort. Interdisciplinary scientific and scholarly work, in particular when it is occasioned by transdisciplinary goals, is largely aimed at advisory services: When technical or social developments are not just passively tolerated, not simply accepted as ‘the way things go’, rather when they should be actively shaped so that the desired consequences are most likely to occur, and the unwelcome consequences most likely avoided, then the need for professional and interdisciplinary advice increasingly arises in the question of the means that are to be taken. Abstract: This article tries to draw this forum together in three ways. First, a Christian poetics has to do with hermeneutics, informed by a long tradition of biblical interpretation. Second, a Christian poetics takes up the discipline of wonder, which remains crucial to the scholarly work of research and teaching. Finally, a Christian poetics combines a sense of wonder with an emphasis on care. It asks how awe and action relate, seeking to understand the many ways texts not just transcend this world, but also transform it.

Land is a finite natural resource and a factor of production whose use by mankind has been determined historically by a wide range of influences. The processes of development impact on the natural and human landscape, resulting in spatial mosaics of land cover, ownership and use that have been studied for many years. Whilst some environmental scientists have argued that land use is determined by physical or climatic factors (Brouwer et al., 1991), there is a long tradition of attempts to explain patterns of land use according to economic factors. This is a tradition that includes the work of the classical scholars of geographical theory and modelling; in particular the contributions made by von Thünen (1826) on agricultural land use, by Weber (1909) on industrial location, by Christaller (1933) and Lösch (1940) on central places and settlement patterns and by Burgess (1927), Hoyt (1939), and Harris and Ullman (1945) on residential land use. There is no doubt that environmental and economic explanations continue to exert major influences on land use. The role of economic factors such as the availability of subsidies, the fixing of quotas on food production, the setting aside of land in return for monetary compensation and schemes to encourage farms to diversify and become less dependent on one activity, all combine to create a complex and often dynamic pattern of agricultural land use. Similarly, the operation of the land market combined with the imposition of planning controls results in very complex urban systems whose components show strong interdependencies (Lowry, 1964). The recent focus on threshold concepts in writing studies indicates the field’s growing commitment to engaging writing-based threshold concepts in the daily work of teaching and learning to facilitate writing transfer. However, although there is growing evidence of robust scholarly work in this area, research on the pedagogical importance of these concepts to the writing development and tutoring of L2 students is still in its nascent stages. To address this gap, this paper first presents findings from a research study that aims to understand how writing centre tutors addressed the needs of L2 students in tutoring sessions and the extent to which threshold-oriented language appeared in the content of the conference summaries. After discussing the findings, the paper proposes a threshold concept-based framework for tutoring L2 writers involving two established concepts: ‘writers’ histories, processes, and identities vary’ and ‘writing is informed by prior experiences.’ In addition, a new model of the conference summary as a reflective tool to promote writing transfer is presented along with a discussion of emergent writing centre-oriented concepts that reimagine the role of the tutor as an ‘expert-outsider’ and the L2 student as ‘informed novice.'

This essay examines the value of creating a peer-reviewed conference on teaching at one's own campus. A conference created by faculty and for faculty is an effective way to address several challenges faced by many teaching centers, especially the challenge of involving a wide range of faculty in scholarly approaches to teaching. I cite experience and data from my center's work in this area over the past six years and contextualize it amidst the literature on the scholarship of teaching and learning.

I ended the previous chapter intimating that the patronage model for academic practice appears to be on the demise. For a relatively young discipline like cultural studies, with its history of suspicion towards elitist academic traditions, this development should not prove such a traumatic loss — indeed, as I will suggest in the following two chapters, it is a change that might be welcomed in so far as it expands the opportunities for scholarly work and the functions it serves for the societies which sustain it. Presently, the use of a credit card has become an integral part of contemporary banking and financial system. Predicting potential credit card defaulters or debtors is a crucial business opportunity for financial institutions. For now, some machine learning methods have been applied to achieve this task. However, with the dynamic and imbalanced nature of credit card default data, it is challenging for classical machine learning algorithms to proffer robust models with optimal performance. Research has shown that the performance of machine learning algorithms can be significantly improved when provided with optimal features. In this paper, we propose an unsupervised feature learning method to improve the performance of various classifiers using a stacked sparse autoencoder (SSAE). The SSAE was optimized to achieve improved performance. The proposed SSAE learned excellent feature representations that were used to train the classifiers. The performance of the proposed approach is compared with an instance where the classifiers were trained using the raw data. Also, a comparison is made with previous scholarly works, and the proposed approach showed superior performance over other methods.

The relationship between the United States and Western Europe since the end of World War Two has been marked by numerous great achievements, not the least being the establishment of a community of peace and security between these actors. From this vantage point the similarities and shared assumptions concerning world order between these allies might appear to overshadow the differences and divergences that exist between them. This belief, combined with the tremendous amount of scholarly work already written on this transatlantic relationship, may at the outset render a study such as this one redundant. But it is not self-evident that the nature of this alliance has been, to date, adequately explored.
