IoT, Cloud and Data Science

This chapter introduces data science with its history and importance in this modern era briefly. This chapter also elaborates the discussion by relating data science to various modern fields like big data analytics, artificial intelligence, deep learning, and machine learning. This chapter also discuss the necessary of data analytics in this big data era. This chapter also briefly introduces another emerging field, Internet of Things (IoT) and explores the contribution IoT towards big data analytics and data science in research perspective. It also briefly introduces the programming and non-programming tools used in the data science field.

Public science is critical to the economy and to society. However, much of the beneficial impact of scientific research only occurs when scientific knowledge is disseminated broadly and is used by others. This thesis examines the emerging policy, law, and practice of facilitating open access to scientific research data. One particular focus is to examine the open data policies recently introduced by research funders and publishers, and the potential in these for driving the practice of open scientific data into the future. This thesis identifies five major stumbling blocks to sustainable open scientific data. Firstly, the prevailing ‘mindset’ that facilitating open access to data is analogous to facilitating open access to publications and, therefore, research data can easily be shared, with research funders and librarians effectively leading the process. Secondly, the unclear meaning of the term ‘data’, which causes confusion among stakeholders. Thirdly, ‘misunderstood incentives’ for data sharing and the additional inputs required from researchers. Fourthly, ‘data privacy’—an issue that only applies to selected research datasets, and yet appears to dominate the discussion about open research data. Finally, there is ‘copyright law’, which poses challenges at different stages of data release and reuse. In this thesis, I argue that the above problems can be addressed using a staged model for open scientific data. I draw specifically on the practice with open scientific data at CERN (the European Organization for Nuclear Research) and the practice of sharing clinical trial data to argue that open data can be shared at various stages of processing and diversification. This model is supplemented by recommendations proposing changes to existing open data mandates and the introduction of a text and data mining exemption into Australian copyright law.

Data Science is a field that has developed rapidly in recent years, which utilizes technology and data analysis methods to produce useful information for various fields. In this paper, we will explain the latest trends in the field of Data Science and their role in various fields, including the fields of business, health, finance, and the public sector and discuss the technologies and algorithms used in Data Science, such as Machine Learning, Natural language Processing., data visualization, Big Data Analytics, and provides examples of how this technology can be used to solve problems in various fields. This paper aims to explore that Data Science has a very important role in various fields, and will continue to develop along with technological developments. The literature study methodology was carried out to collect data and information related to this topic, which aims to ensure that the data analysis carried out is accurate, and can be trusted. The results of the study found that Data Science science and technology has helped a number of parties with its application to certain aspects related to their fields. Thus, this paper can be a useful source of information for professionals and researchers who are interested in Data Science and its role in various fields.

IntroductionSocietal and individual benefits of data-intensive science are substantial but raise challenges of balancing individual privacy and public good, while building appropriate governance and socio-technical systems to support data-intensive science. We set out to define a new field of inquiry to move collective interests forward.
 Objectives and ApproachOur objectives were: 1. To create a concise definition of the emerging field of Population Data Science; 2. To highlight the characteristics and challenges of Population Data Science; 3. To differentiate Population Data Science from existing fields of data science and informatics; and 4. To discuss the implications and future opportunities for Population Data Science. Objectives 1 and 2 were met largely through International Population Data Linkage Network (IPDLN) member engagement, Objective 3 was evaluated via literature review, and Objective 4 was achieved through iterative and collective work on a peer-reviewed position paper.
 ResultsWe define Population Data Science succinctly as the science of data about people. It is related to, but distinct from, the fields of data science and informatics. A broader definition includes four characteristics of: i) data use for positive impact on individuals and populations; ii) bringing together and analyzing data from multiple sources; iii) identifying population-level insights; and iv) developing safe, privacy-sensitive and ethical infrastructure to support research. One implication of these characteristics is that few individuals or organisations possess all of the requisite knowledge and skills comprising Population Data Science, so this is by nature a multi-disciplinary “team science” field. There is a need to advance various aspects of science, such as data linkage technology, various forms of analytics, and methods of public engagement.
 Conclusion/ImplicationsThese implications are the beginnings of a research agenda for Population Data Science, which if approached as a collective field, will catalyze significant advances in our understanding of society, health, and human behavior and increase the impact of our research.

Data Scientist - The New ProfessionData scientist is probably the most trendy job in Information Technology (IT) nowadays. This new profession emerged with the Big Data wave. Even though there is no such thing like an exact job profile, we expect that the data scientist can handle all the Big Data challenges that are novel to us. Without being a magician she or he shall help to deliver us all the magic Big Data promises. The data scientist capitalizes on unstructured data without taking the roles of a programmer, database expert, statistician, or content manager. All these professions are around for decades. So, why invent a new one?More than anything, what data scientists do is make discoveries while swimming in data [...] they are able to bring structure to large quantities of formless data and make analysis possible. [3] They sketch, orchestrate, and control the discovery process. The leading paradigm in this process it to find information that meets a certain need or provides an answer for a certain problem. need to avoid the temptation of following a data-driven approach instead of a problem-driven one. [5] The data scientist has to develop an idea about the required information that meets our information need. We can expect that data scientists have a deep understanding of the foundations of both, the nature of information and the domain. They follow a mental model on the information demand that abstractly reflects the facts they expect to encounter in data and the way to detect and present them to us. We expect the data scientist to discover novel information that may provide us with new insights. And we want these insights to be true. It is thus part of the data scientist's responsibility to make sure that the discovered information is not only novel but also trustworthy. The data scientists cannot prove data analysis models. That exceeds their capabilities. We cannot hold them liable for information that eventually turns out to be wrong. Nevertheless their skills should include a sound sensation of plausibility that helps them to raise doubts and to prompt a closer look when the results of data analysis seem too questionable to them. However, separating questionable results from plausible ones is a task that is far from being trivial.Separating Data Science from Data FictionWhen driving a car we often encounter these nice roadside signs that sometimes make us realize that we're driving too fast. Furthermore, on some occasions there is official personnel not far from these signs measuring our speed, explaining to us our traffic infraction face-to-face and documenting it on a speeding ticket. Doesn't this sound a bit outdated? There are enough sensors in a car that measure location, speed, time, and more. Even if the car's sensors don't measure those, the driver's cellphone can do it. Combining this sensor information with the cartographic data about roads and speed limits we can easily imagine that, by the end of day, the car or the phone exactly knows every infraction we committed and can automatically trigger the issuing of speeding tickets. Aren't there just legal aspects that hamper this technically feasible scenario making its way into reality?One trait of Big Data is the availability of sensor data and their combination with already available data generating new information, like the detection of traffic infraction. We can extrapolate this scenario in many directions, including more types of infraction, driving for an irresponsibly long time without a substantial break, or detecting patterns of aggressive driving. We can extend it also towards future possibilities if we think about sensor information from smart watches indicating a possibly problematic pulse rate or from the car's air control sensor that the driver may drive under the influence of alcohol.Much like in Data Mining, the strength of Big Data originates from the combination of facts producing new information. …

This article is a deepening of our article that was published in 2017 in the journal. We took some elements but we also developed other concepts to make a consequent synthesis on the IoT. Data Science is associated with new discoveries, the discovery of value from the data. It is a practice of deriving insights and developing business strategies through transformation of data in to useful information. It has been evaluated as a scientific field and research evolution in disciplines like statistics, computing science, intelligence science, and practical transformation in the domains like science, engineering, public sector, business and lifestyle. The field encompasses the larger areas of artificial intelligence, data analytics, machine learning, pattern recognition, natural language understanding, and big data manipulation. It also tackles related new scientific challenges, ranging from data capture, creation, storage, retrieval, sharing, analysis, optimization, and visualization, to integrative analysis across heterogeneous and interdependent complex resources for better decision-making, collaboration, and, ultimately, value creation. In this paper we entitled epicycles of analysis, formal modeling, from data analysis to data science, data analytics -A keystone of data science, The Big data is not a single technology but an amalgamation of old and new technologies that assistance companies gain actionable awareness. The big data is vital because it manages, store and manipulates large amount of data at the desirable speed and time. Big data addresses detached requirements, in other words the amalgamate of multiple un-associated datasets, processing of large amounts of amorphous data and harvesting of unseen information in a time-sensitive generation.
 As businesses struggle to stay up with changing market requirements, some companies are finding creative ways to use Big Data to their growing business needs and increasingly complex problems. As organizations evolve their processes and see the opportunities that Big Data can provide, they struggle to beyond traditional Business Intelligence activities, like using data to populate reports and dashboards, and move toward Data Science- driven projects that plan to answer more open-ended and sophisticated questions.
 Although some organizations are fortunate to have data scientists, most are not, because there is a growing talent gap that makes finding and hiring data scientists in a timely manner is difficult. This paper, aimed to demonstrate a close view about Data science, big data, including big data concepts like data storage, data processing, and data analysis of these technological developments, we also provide brief description about big data analytics and its characteristics , data structures, data analytics life cycle, emphasizes critical points on these issues.

It is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 19th ACM SIGKDD Conference on Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD). The annual ACM SIGKDD conference is the premier international forum for data mining, knowledge discovery and big data. It brings together researchers and practitioners from academia, industry, and government to share their ideas, research results and experiences. KDD-2013 features plenary presentations, paper presentations, poster sessions, workshops, tutorials, exhibits, demonstrations, and the KDD Cup competition. Today, you hear a lot about big data, data science and data intensive computing. The core of this work is extracting knowledge and useful information from data, which for science leads to beautiful insights, and for applications leads to actions, alerts and decisions. The KDD community has always been at the center of this activity and it is clear from this conference that it will continue to drive this broader field of big data. This year there were 726 submissions to the KDD Research Track, and 125 papers were accepted. There were 136 submissions to the KDD Industry and Government Track, and 34 papers were accepted. KDD also has a history of inviting talks that are of broad interest to the KDD community. This year we chose to have 4 plenary talks. A program committee also selected 8 talks to present at the Industry Practice Exposition. A strength of the KDD conference is the number of workshops and tutorials that are co-located with it. This year there were 10 full-day workshops, 5 half-day workshops, and 6 tutorials. We thank all sponsors, who are a very important part of the conference, and the members of the Organizing Committee and our other colleagues who volunteered their time during the past year to make this conference a success. As data science research continues to expand into a variety of applied fields, the need for talented and diverse individuals has been widely acknowledged. Despite this acknowledgement, data science lags behind other STEM disciplines in achieving a diverse workforce. Through work we have undertaken in the past as part of the Broadening Participation in Data Mining workshop (BPDM) and our work with ACM SIGKDD, we seek to build a better workforce that is positioned to address the data science problems of the next hundred years. A significant barrier to trainee long-term career success is their limited ability of underrepresented trainees to demonstrate their analytical abilities and sophisticated inferential talents to address key data issues in our community. In this talk we will present an overview of the goals of the Diversity and Inclusion track and share our vision for how we bridge this diversity divide that our society and our data science workforce needs right now. We are interested in how diversity is encountered across ethnic, gender, and ability identities. To this end we have prepared an exciting new program activities to facilitate broader conversations in the data science field that cover not only technical ideas but innovative thinking in what the future of data science can look like if we diversify the group of contributors and enlarge those included.

Purpose of the study. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the current state and prospects for introducing the principles of open access to scientific publications and scientific data in the sphere of science and education in Belarus. Its relevance is related to the need to develop measures to accelerate the process of digital transformation of science and education of the Republic of Belarus.Materials and methods. Information base of the research was made by publications of scientists and specialists on the issues under study, normative documents, final documents of conferences on this topic, data from the Open Data in Belarus portal, national and international aggregators of institutional repositories, open scientific data repositories.Results. The analysis of the state and prospects of introducing the principles of open access to scientific publications and scientific data into the sphere of science and education of Belarus was carried out during the research. It is shown that the digital transformation of science and education is at an early stage. The dissemination of the principles of open science and the introduction of new instruments of scientific communication in the Belarusian academic and university science are uneven, there is a need to develop a strategy in this direction. The principle of open access to publications is being most actively introduced into practice through the development of a network of university repositories. In Belarus, the open data infrastructure is at the very beginning of its formation. In this regard, there is a need to conduct additional research to identify problems associated with the discovery of scientific data. One step in the transition to open science is the unification of all the repositories on a single platform of the national aggregator. The review of national and international aggregators of institutional repositories is presented. The questions on creation of the national system-aggregator of information resources of open access in the Republic of Belarus in the context of the formation of the Republican information and educational environment are considered: the purpose of the system, the platform used, technical solutions for organizing the integration of information systems of higher education institutions and the rules of interaction of system users.Conclusions. The creation of a national system-aggregator will not only provide a single point of access to the institutional repositories of project participants, which will significantly improve the convenience and completeness of the search, but will also solve one of the most important tasks of the project - popularizing the idea of open access to scientific publications. The implementation of the proposed measures to create conditions for the discovery of scientific data in Belarus will contribute to the introduction of the principle of open access to scientific data. The considered approaches will allow accelerating the process of digital transformation of the scientific and educational sphere of Belarus.

Attention on “big data” spans nursing and the health sciences, and extends as well to engineering/computer sciences through to the liberal arts in professional literature. A current Google search (3 Nov 2016) of “big data” yields 288 million entries. A focused search of “big data and nursing” yields more than 3.9 million entries. Thus we ask, “Why big data? Why nursing?” The focus of this chapter is to provide an overview of why big data has emerged now and to make the case for how big data has the capacity to change health, healthcare systems, and nursing. This chapter lays a foundation for the chapters and case studies to follow that explore what data, knowledge, and transformation processes are needed to put information and knowledge into the hands of nursing wherever nurses are working. In this chapter we examine the big data sources within and beyond nursing and healthcare that can be collected and analyzed to improve nursing and patient, family and community health. This chapter entices the reader to examine “Why big data now?” and “Why big data in the future?” This chapter is meant to stir curiosity for “Why should I be knowledgeable?” Whether the reader’s role is in clinical practice, education, research, industry, or policy, the applied uses of big data analytics are empowering change at an exponential speed across all domains. Big data has the capacity to illuminate nursing’s discovery of new knowledge and best practices that are safe, effective and lead to improved outcomes including well-being of providers; it also can expand nursing’s vision and future possibilities through increasing awareness of what nursing doesn’t know. The importance of nursing’s lens on the new discoveries obtained through big data and data science is critical to the transformation of health and healthcare systems. This transformation completes the challenge of placing the person at the center of all care initiatives and actions.

The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the most exciting and useful technologies of the twenty-first century. It can offer high-level application feasibility in the wireless telecommunications industry. The IoT can also be defined as an intelligent, dynamic infrastructure that is embedded with a network of smart devices. It also provides the convenience of accessibility from any place, at any time. The IoT seeks to achieve its main goal, which is to provide a vast and complex information system, by combining several cutting-edge technologies, including sensor data, machine learning, artificial intelligence, big data, data science, networking, and cloud computing. In the context of IoT, gathering vast amounts of data is crucial, but it's also critical to guarantee data security and respect for each individual's right to privacy. The result of these various causes is the emergence of new obstacles in the process of improving and implementing present technology. These kinds of technologies are very prevalent and are giving rise to a growing number of difficulties. We have to study each of these in further detail, to achieve this, comprehensive review of various use cases and challenges of implementing IoT must be carried out. To fill aforementioned gap, this article presents an analysis of the latest Internet of Things technologies, use cases, and challenges.

Introduction: The emergence of the concepts like Big Data, Data Science, Machine Learning (ML), and the Internet of Things (IoT) in recent years has added the potential of research in today's world. The continuous use of IoT devices, sensors, etc. that collect data continuously is putting tremendous pressure on the existing IoT network. Materials and Methods: This resource-constrained IoT environment is flooded with data acquired from millions of IoT nodes deployed at the device level. The limited resources of the IoT Network have driven the researchers towards data Management. This paper focuses on data classification at the device level, edge/fog level, and cloud level using machine learning techniques. Results: The data coming from different devices is vast and is of variety. Therefore, it becomes essential to choose the right approach for classification and analysis. This will help in optimizing the data at the device, edge/fog level for better performance of the network in the future. Conclusion: This paper presents data classification, machine learning approaches, and a proposed mathematical model for the IoT environment.

In this chapter we present a case study to demonstrate how the current state-of-the-art Genetic Programming (GP) fairs as a tool for the emerging field of Data Science. Data Science refers to the practice of extracting knowledge from data, often Big Data, to glean insights useful for predicting business, political or societal outcomes. Data Science tools are important to the practice as they allow Data Scientists to be productive and accurate. GP has many features that make it amenable as a tool for Data Science, but GP is not widely considered as a Data Science method as of yet. Thus, we performed a real-world comparison of GP with a popular Data Science method to understand its strengths and weaknesses. GP proved to find equally strong solutions, leveraged the new Big Data infrastructure, and was able to provide several benefits like direct feature importance and solution confidence. GP lacked the ability to quickly build and test models, required much more intensive computing power, and, due to its lack of commercial maturity, created some challenges for productization as well as integration with data management and visualization capabilities. The lessons learned leads to several recommendations that provide a path for future research to focus on key areas to improve GP as a Data Science tool.

In this paper, we explore the integration of the Women in Data Science (WiDS) Challenge into an Exploratory Data Analysis (EDA) course as a strategic approach to elevate the skills of rapid learners. The WiDS Challenge, a globally recognized data science competition, provides students with a unique opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world problems in a collaborative and competitive environment. The WiDS Datathon offers a real-world data science global challenge that allows students to apply EDA techniques in a practical, competitive setting. Data science is crucial in education. A course on this subject aids student in comprehending data, performing analysis, building models, and drawing inferences from results. These skills are applicable in real-world scenarios such as healthcare, climate change, agriculture, and finance. By embedding the challenge within the EDA curriculum, students are exposed to hands-on data analysis, model development, and problem-solving exercises that reinforce classroom concepts. The approach fosters rapid skill development, critical thinking, and teamwork, while also promoting diversity and inclusion in the field of data science. The results indicate that the Datathon significantly boosts rapid learners' analytical capabilities and practical knowledge, demonstrating its value as an effective and engaging pedagogical tool for advanced EDA students. This study underscores the potential of project-based learning in enhancing the educational experience and preparing students for real-world data challenges. Students earned the credits because it was integrated into the course, which contributed to the teams' strong performance. As a result, the top three teams from our university improved their global rankings to 10th, 14th, and 47th, respectively, compared to the previous year.
