Abstract

In the previous issue of Education 3–13 David Oliver wrote of the need for ‘critical rationalism’ as the stance for a primary teacher who really wished to educate not just instruct. This paper considers how such an approach might bear on teaching one particular area of the curriculum, i.e. history. Using certain kinds of language is seen as crucial.
