Abstract

This is a special issue of the EMC Magazine. It was a joy to work on since there was plenty of banter and good discussion between Mike Violette and Michel Mardiguian. It all started with the last issue of the EMC Magazine, 3rd Quarter 2022, that featured a photo of the Statue of Liberty on the cover and a reference to an article inside on “Lightening Protection of the Statue of Liberty.” Yes, that “Lightening” spelling on the cover was a typo! Several astute readers pointed that out, much to my chagrin. Then, I received an email from Michel expressing doubts about the number of times the Statue of Liberty had been struck by lightning as claimed in Mike's summary of his presentation on the Statue of Liberty given to the Melbourne EMC Chapter. Featured in Chapter Chatter, this once benign column was suddenly the subject of multiple emails back and forth as the calculations were proposed, reviewed, and double checked.
