Libraries and user culture: literacy and development implications

Background. The number of new (novel) psychoactive substances (NPS) available in the illegal market is increasing; however, current monitoring of the drug situation in Europe focuses mainly on classical drugs of abuse, with limited emphasis on clinical presentation in the emergency department (ED). The European Drug Emergencies Network (Euro-DEN) is a European Commission-funded project that aims to improve the knowledge of acute drug toxicity of both classical recreational drugs and NPS. As a baseline for this project, we performed a study to establish which data are currently being collected and reported in Europe on ED presentations with acute toxicity related to NPS and classical drugs of abuse. Methods. We used a three-pronged approach to identify any systematic collection of data on NPS toxicity in Europe by i) performing a literature search, ii) utilising an online survey of the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction Re seau Europe en d’Information sur les Drogues et les Toxicomanies national focal points and iii) exploiting the knowledge and resources of the Euro-DEN network members. Results. The literature search revealed 21 papers appropriate for assessment, but only one described a systematic collection of clinical data on NPS. Twenty-seven of thirty countries responded to the online survey. More than half of all the countries (52%) did not perform any registration at all of such data, 37% collected systematic clinical data on NPS at a national level, while 44% collected data on classical drugs. A few examples for good practice of systematic collection of clinical data on ED presentations due to acute toxicity were identified. Conclusion. The systematic collection of data on ED presentation of toxicity related to NPS and classical drugs in Europe is scarce; the existing collection is limited to single centres, single countries, groups of patients or not focused on novel drugs; the collection of data is highly variable between the different countries. Euro-DEN, a European Commission funded project, aims at closing some of these gaps.

In the system of temperature data collection, the measured data with their position are continuously stored in database. The placements of these sensors are in most cases non-regular. The placements depends on demands of customer and the placement of sensors are set by the need of how much will be the data detailed. The important indicator of temperature difference is visualization of temperature on given area and the difference in dependency on time. For the visualization of temperature on given area is to necessary to compute, or estimate the temperature in point, where are no sensors. The density of the mesh is done by customer requirements. For the estimation of temperature in all points of mesh are used various method differ in algorithm efficiency and precision of estimation. These methods belong in discrete approximation in space category. As an example of these method can by “Kriging” method or “Inverse Distance” method. In this paper, these methods will be implemented in system of automatic collection of temperature data. Obtained estimation will be compared reciprocally

Objective: The aim of this study is to determine the frequency of bicycle helmet use among college students and health beliefs about bicycle helmet attitude. Participants: Turkish university students (n = 799). Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted over the period 2019. A sociodemographic and cycling related questionnaire form and the Bicycle Helmet Attitudes Scale were used in the data collection. Descriptive statistics, t-test, Anova and Kruskal Wallis tests were used in the statistical analysis. Results: Only 10.4% of students wear a bicycle helmet. Students who using bicycle helmets had higher benefit health belief scores compared to those who didn’t, while barrier health belief scores were lower. There is a significant relationship between health belief scores for bicycle helmet attitude and gender, obeying traffic rules, thinking about helmet (unnecessary/disturbing/expensive/ridiculous) and helmet use. Conclusion: In this study, the frequency of using bicycle helmets is very low.

As wild primate populations decline, numbers of orphaned primates, sanctuaries, and attempts to release primates back to the natural environment increase. Release projects frequently are poorly documented despite IUCN guidelines recommending post-release monitoring and systematic data collection as central to the process. Since 1996, Habitat Ecologique et Liberte des Primates (HELP) has been releasing wild-born orphaned chimpanzees into natural habitat in the Conkouati-Douli National Park, Republic of Congo. HELP developed a post-release monitoring system as an integral component. We present activity budgets and diet of released chimpanzees, and compared them to those of wild chimpanzee, as primary indicators of successful release. Feeding, moving, and resting dominated activity budgets, reflecting the overall patterns in wild populations. Diet was diverse and dominated by fruit, and the released chimpanzees showed specialization on a smaller number of species, as in many wild communities. The high survival rates of the chimpanzees and overall success of the release program are attributed to careful planning and post-release support facilitated via the monitoring process. Systematic post-release data collection monitoring has confirmed that wild-born chimpanzees can adjust behaviorally and nutritionally to the wild. Survival statistics of the reintroduced chimpanzees—confirmed 56%, possible 88%— reflect the behavioral adaptability.

Exploration on Data Collection and Analysis System Based on Integrated SIFT Algorithm

In recent years, leaders of nonprofit human service organizations and their funders have made a significant investment in systematic data collection and analysis to analyze program activities. Using data gathered from a survey and 5 focus groups of members of a national organization of human service providers, this study evaluates providers’ perceptions of the practices they use to gather feedback from service beneficiaries and other stakeholders. The study developed a 6-element framework of feedback purposes to frame current practices. The study found that providers are actively engaged in feedback activities but are dissatisfied with their efforts, attributable to disagreements over the purpose of feedback, concerns over the value of data collection instruments, and the lack of organizational capacity.

Involvement of hospital nurses in care decisions related to administration of artificial nutrition or hydration (ANH) in patients with dementia: A qualitative study

Despite the need to bridge the knowledge gap introduced by technology, knowledge hoarding by library staff seems to affect service delivery at a state university library in Zimbabwe. The study employed a qualitative research approach in a case study design, informed by the interpretive paradigm. The target population of this study consisted of senior library management personnel and their subordinates. Maximal variation purposive sampling strategy was chosen to sample twenty-six library staff/ individuals that differ on some characteristics. Data were generated using interviews and observations. Key findings revealed that mistrust, unfair treatment, poor interpersonal relations, lack of recognition, and absence of a reward system induce knowledge hoarding and discourage library staff from sharing experiences. Furthermore, the study revealed that while librarians hoard knowledge as a security strategy for indispensability, hoarding knowledge has led to individualism and privatisation of knowledge. The study concluded that withholding of knowledge, for whatever reason, results in negative implications on the performance of new roles and service delivery. The study recommends that library staff should change from knowledge hoarding to sharing their knowledge; that the state library should implement a knowledge sharing policy; that the university library should reward knowledge sharing and recognize knowledge contributions from subordinates.

Scholarship data collection at the Faculty of Economics still uses a manual method that is all the data collection process is still input using Microsoft Excel. So that the scholarship data collection is not neatly arranged and not archived properly. This results in difficulties in finding data and requires a long time. Data archiving is more likely in the form of a document sheet (Hard File), therefore it is necessary to create a system that can help the Faculty of Economics in data collection of students who receive scholarships. After a series of testing of the scholarship recipient's data collection system can be implemented at the Faculty of Economics. Archiving data on scholarship recipient students is well archived, making it easier for users to search data from year to year according to study programs and scholarship programs that are archived in the data collection system and become more efficient

Mixed methods, cross-cultural designs are a special case of the more general, mixed methods between-groups designs. The defining feature of mixed methods is the principled integration of qualitative and quantitative approaches, and cross-cultural comparison is premised on the systematic collection and analysis of data from two or more cultural settings for the explicit purpose of between-groups comparisons. This article explores the interaction of mixed methods integration and cross-cultural between-groups comparison to develop cross-cultural versions of five prototypical mixed methods designs: sequential (exploratory and explanatory), parallel, conversion, fully integrated, and multilevel. Each is exemplified by published studies. Final reflections explore possible additional contributions that mixed methods might make to issues of cross-cultural equivalence in data collection and analysis.

Background A production line is the basic unit of smart factories and smart manufacturing. However, owing to the development of the industrial Internet of Things, sensors, and other technologies, more data are being collected, leading to a data explosion, and the heterogeneous nature of multiple sources makes it difficult to manage data in a unified manner. Methods A production line data collection, storage, and management system based on cloud-fog-edge computing collaboration and a digital twin was designed. Multi-source heterogeneous data were collected and transmitted based on the OPC UA, and an information model of the production line was established. Modules for data mapping, publishing, and receiving were developed to achieve unified data collection and transmission. The data storage and management platform was constructed by front-end and back-end separation technologies. Results The developed data collection and management system was verified for functionality and performance on a digital twin production line. Functional tests show that the system has the functions of data acquisition and transmission, device addition and viewing, device data querying and downloading, data and model visualization, and user rights setting. The average time for edge data collection and transmission is 183.6ms. The average response time of the cloud for fog requests is less than 1s. This shows that the system can satisfy the real-time requirements of a digital twin production line. Conclusions The proposed system is real-time and stable, providing support for big data and virtual-reality interaction in digital twins.

Writing paper aims to find and describe: (1) benefits students after reading the materials collection at the Library of Elementary School No. 29 Dadok Black Stubble, and (2) comparison of time it takes students to the time available to visit the SD State Library Number 29 Dadok black stumps. The method used in this study is observation and interviews. Observations and interviews were conducted with stakeholders. Based on the research found that: (1) students utilize library materials in the Library of Elementary School No. 29 Black Dadok stumps to find a school assignment given by the teacher in the classroom and study bidag students to the school library just to find textbooks that are tasked by the teacher, (2) learners in elementary school No. 29 Dadok Black stumps using the breaks to visit the school library, these students expressed the schedule time available to rest like shopping, playing, resulting in a lack of interest and willingness of participants students to visit the school library. In order to use library materials can be used optimally, should Libraries Elementary School No. 29 Dadok stumps Black design a good planning before the addition of library materials. The plan includes: (1) pay attention to the needs of information desired by the student participants who will surely be used later, (2) pay attention to the age and grade level of students in accordance with the latest curriculum, (3) school institutions should provide library materials order form for learners. So that the time spent by students to visit the school library effectively, should the Elementary School Library No. 29 Dadok Black stumps have library staff who are experts in the field of libraries, so that the service schedule can be given to students to be effective . Youth violence is a major problem in the United States. It remains the third leading cause of death among youth between the ages of 10 and 24 years and the leading cause of death in Blacks between 10 and 24 years of age. In its effort to prevent youth violence, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention funds six Youth Violence Prevention Centers (YVPCs) to design, implement and evaluate community-based youth violence prevention programs. These Centers rely on surveillance data to monitor youth violence and evaluate the impact of their interventions. In public health, surveillance entails a systematic collection and analysis of data, typically within defined populations. In the case of youth violence, surveillance data may include archival records from medical examiners, death certificates, hospital discharges, emergency room visits, ambulance pickups, juvenile justice system intakes, police incident reports, and school disciplinary incidents and actions. This article illustrates the process the YVPCs used for collecting and utilizing youth violence surveillance data. Specifically, we will describe available surveillance data sources, describe community-level outcomes, illustrate effective utilization of the data, and discuss the benefits and limitations of each data source. Public health professionals should utilize local surveillance data to monitor and describe youth violence in the community. Further, the data can be used to evaluate the impact of interventions in improving community-level outcomes.

A tumor registry is essential in the systematic collection and analysis of tumor data in a defined population. Population-based tumor registries have been in operation for more than 30 years in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. While the tumor registry data have previously been used for many site-specific cancer studies in atomic bomb survivors, overall analysis of tumor registry based cancer incidence data among the atomic bomb survivors has not been undertaken for some time. However, a recent improvement in the tumor registries has made it possible to analyze most recent cancer incidence data among the Life Span Study population. Preliminary analysis under way indicates a potential power of the data. There are a few methodological problems associated with the use of the incidence data, especially relating to consistency of data and migration. Several measures taken to resolve such problems are discussed.

public health surveillance is the ongoing systematic identification, collection, collation, analysis, and interpretation of disease occurrence and public health event data, to take timely and robust action, such as disseminating the resulting information to the relevant people, for effective and appropriate action. Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by the micro-organism Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The main objective of this study was to describe the operation and performance of the TB surveillance system in a municipality in Ghana during the COVID-19 pandemic. this was a cross-sectional study, which employed qualitative and quantitative data collection methods. The process was guided by the Updated Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Surveillance System Evaluation Guidelines. The study was conducted in the La Nkwantanang Madina Municipality (LaNMMA). the system was found to be useful for planning, monitoring, and evaluation of TB control activities as well as the development of priorities for TB control programmes. The system was found to be simple and flexible with good data quality. However, stability, sensitivity (44.2%), predictive value positive (8.7%) and acceptability were all found to be poor. Even though the downstream flow of information was found to be excellent, the upstream flow of information was found to be poor. it was concluded that the system was performing poorly. The system was not achieving most of the objectives for which it was set up. The Ghana Health Service should take measures to strengthen and improve the LaNMMA TB surveillance system in the post-pandemic era.
