Lipschitz groups and Lipschitz maps

We investigate algebraic sets over certain finitely generated torsion-free metabelian groups. The class of groups under consideration is the class of so-called ρ-groups. It consists of all wreath products of finitely generated free abelian groups and their subgroups. In particular, it includes all free metabelian groups of finite rank. Our main result is a characterization of certain irreducible algebraic sets over ρ-groups. More precisely, we consider irreducible algebraic sets which are determined by a system of equations in n indeterminates. For their coordinate groups, we introduce a discrete invariant called the relative characteristic. This is an ordered pair of non-negative integers. We determine the structure of the coordinate group of the n-dimensional affine space, and show that its relative characteristic is (n, n). Then we characterize the irreducible algebraic sets of relative characteristic (n, n) and (0, k ) where 0 ≤ k ≤ n . We also obtain some examples of somewhat unusual algebraic sets over ρ-groups, thus demonstrating that algebraic sets over these groups are much more varied and complicated than, say, algebraic sets over free groups.

The research launched in [1] is brought to a close by examining algebraic sets in a metabelian group G in two important cases: (1) G = Fn is a free metabelian group of rank n; (2) G = Wn,k is a wreath product of free Abelian groups of ranks n and k.

We derive new representations for the generalised Jacobian of a locally Lipschitz map between finite dimensional real Euclidean spaces as the lower limit (i.e., limit inferior) of the classical derivative of the map where it exists. The new representations lead to significantly shorter proofs for the basic properties of the subgradient and the generalised Jacobian including the chain rule. We establish that a sequence of locally Lipschitz maps between finite dimensional Euclidean spaces converges to a given locally Lipschitz map in the L-topology—that is, the weakest refinement of the sup norm topology on the space of locally Lipschitz maps that makes the generalised Jacobian a continuous functional—if and only if the limit superior of the sequence of directional derivatives of the maps in a given vector direction coincides with the generalised directional derivative of the given map in that direction, with the convergence to the limit superior being uniform for all unit vectors. We then prove our main result that the subspace of Lipschitz C ∞ maps between finite dimensional Euclidean spaces is dense in the space of Lipschitz maps equipped with the L-topology, and, for a given Lipschitz map, we explicitly construct a sequence of Lipschitz C ∞ maps converging to it in the L-topology, allowing global smooth approximation of a Lipschitz map and its differential properties. As an application, we obtain a short proof of the extension of Green’s theorem to interval-valued vector fields. For infinite dimensions, we show that the subgradient of a Lipschitz map on a Banach space is upper continuous, and, for a given real-valued Lipschitz map on a separable Banach space, we construct a sequence of Gateaux differentiable functions that converges to the map in the sup norm topology such that the limit superior of the directional derivatives in any direction coincides with the generalised directional derivative of the Lipschitz map in that direction.

The metric injective hulls of normed spaces

This paper is concerned with two notions of cohomological triviality for Banach algebras, weak amenability and cyclic amenability. The first is defined within Hochschild cohomology and the latter within cyclic cohomology. Our main result is that where ℱ is a Banach algebraic free product of two Banach algebras and ℬ. It follows that cyclic amenability is preserved under the formation of free products.

In the present paper, we introduce the notion of A-cone metric spaces over Banach algebra as a generalization of A-metric spaces and cone metric spaces over Banach algebra. We also defined generalized Lipschitz and expansive maps in such maps and establish some fixed point theorems for such maps in the setting of the new space. As an application, we prove a theorem for integral equation. We provide illustrative example to verify our results. Our results generalize and unify some well-known results in the literature.

The main result of this paper is that if a sequence of complex numbers (an)n≥0 satisfies\(\sum\limits_{\mathop {k = 0}\limits_{k even} }^n {\left({_k^n } \right)a_k = O(n^r)} \)and % MathType!MTEF!2!1!+-\(\sum\limits_{\mathop {k = 0}\limits_{k odd} }^n {\left({_k^n } \right)a_k = O(n^r )} as n \to \infty,\) for some integerr≥0, thenan=0 for alln>r. As an application, we deduce a localized form of a theorem of Allan about nilpotent elements in Banach algebras, and this in turn leads to an invariant-subspace theorem. As a further application, we prove a variant of Carleman's theorem on the unique determination of probability distributions by their moments. The paper concludes with a quantitative form of the main result.

In this paper, we study biprojectivity of generalized module extension Banach algebras and second dual of Banach algebras. As a main result, we prove that if [Formula: see text] is a contractible closed ideal of [Formula: see text] such that [Formula: see text] is biprojective, then [Formula: see text] is biprojective. As a consequence, we give some results on biprojectivity of generalized module extension Banach algebras. Indeed, this is a generalization of results in [A. Ebaddian and A. Jabbari, Biprojectivity and biflatness of amalgamated duplication of Banach algebras, J. Algebra Its Appl. 19(7) (2020) 2050132 (15 pp.)]. Moreover, we show that if [Formula: see text] is biprojective and [Formula: see text] is a two-sided ideal of [Formula: see text] then [Formula: see text] is biprojective. This fact generalizes some known results in [M. S. Moslehian and A. Niknam, Biflatness and biprojectivity of second dual of Banach algebras, Southeast Asian Bull. Math 27(1) (2003) 129–133].

The paper begins with an introduction to the cohomology theory for Banach algebras needed in the remainder of the paper. A perturbation of the multiplication π of a Banach algebra A is a continuous associative multiplication ρ which is near ρ in the usual norm for bilinear maps. We consider the question of whether such a multiplication is necessarily of the form ρ(a, b) = W−1(WaWb) where W is a bounded linear map from A into A near the identity. A cohomological condition is given for this to hold. A linear map T from one Banach algebra A into another B is “almost” a homomorphism if the bilinear map \(\mathop{T}\limits^{ \circ } (a,b) = T(a,b) - T(a)T(b)\) is small. This occurs if T is near a genuine homomorphism and we consider whether every map which is almost a homomorphism is near a homomorphism. The main result is that if A is an amenable algebra and B is the dual of a suitable Banach space then the pair (A, B) has this property.

The present paper reveals the existence theorem for the first order functional differential equations in Banach algebras is proved under the mixed generalized Lipschitz and Caratheodory conditions. The existence of extremal solutions is also proved under certain monotonicity conditions.

Let G be a locally compact abelian group and let \({\bf T}{\text{ = }}{\left\{ {T{\left( g \right)}} \right\}}_{{g \in G}} \) be a representation of G by means of isometries on a Banach space. We define WT as the closure with respect to the weak operator topology of the set \({\left\{ {\ifmmode\expandafter\hat\else\expandafter\^\fi{f}{\left( {\text{T}} \right)}:f \in L^{1} {\left( G \right)}} \right\}}, \) where \(\ifmmode\expandafter\hat\else\expandafter\^\fi{f}{\left( {\text{T}} \right)} = {\int\limits_G {f{\left( g \right)}T{\left( g \right)}dg} } \) is the Fourier transform of f ∈L1(G) with respect to the group T. Then WT is a commutative Banach algebra. In this paper we study semisimlicity problem for such algebras. The main result is that if the Arveson spectrum sp(T) of T is scattered (i.e. it does not contain a nonempty perfect subset) then the algebra WT is semisimple.

1. In studying the structure of abstract groups, one is often confronted with the seemingly trivial question: when do we consider a group (or class of groups) as known? The question has many aspects, and is usually a very complex one. Of course, the group is formally known as soon as its multiplication table is determined; but in most cases, little further information can be obtained from the multiplication table itself on the structural elements of the group, such as subgroups, normal subgroups, automorphisms, etc. If one is however, interested in the classification of groups belonging to a certain class, then the problem is concentrated on the enumeration of groups having some common property, and the structural elements of the individual groups are of a secondary importance. In this case, the problem can be formulated in the following way: Find some finite algebraical procedure, depending on some integral or more general algebraical parameters, which enables us to construct, in an abstract or symbolic way, each group belonging to the class under consideration. A group is of course constructed if its elements are known, and the groupproduct of any two elements can be calculated by means of the defining procedure. It is desirable that the parameters, called invariants of the group, should be characteristic of the group in the sense that no two distinct systems of operations should define the same group. A classical example for such an interpretation of the structure problem is furnished by the fundamental theorem of finite Abelian groups. In this paper we are concerned with the enumeration of certain finite metabelian groups. (Metabelian is a group with Abelian commutator subgroup.) The problem in all its generality is a very difficult one, and far from being solved in the above sense. However, special classes of metabelian groups are accessible to investigation, and such investigations have an interest in so far as they clear more aspects of the general problem. In studying the structure of metabelian groups, the method of group extensions is often found to be the most natural tool. As an extensive use will be made of this method in this paper, I want to formulate it in such a way as it seems most suitable for the case discussed here. In this note we give generalisations of Livsic's result that a priori measurable solutions to cocycle equations must in fact be more regular. We go beyond the original continuous hyperbolic examples of Livsic to consider examples of this phenomenon in the context of: (a) 0-transformations; (b) rational maps; and (c) planar maps with indifferent periodic points. Such examples are not immediately covered by Livsic's original approach either due to a lack of continuity or hyperbolicity. 0. INTRODUCTION In 1972 Livsic showed that given a mixing subshift of finite type T: X -* X and a H6lder continuous function c: X -* IR then any solution to the equation (1) c(x) u(Tx) u(x) with u: X ---1iR measurable and essentially bounded (with respect to an equilibrium measure for a H6lder continuous function) must have a continuous version i.e. eu': X -* R continuous such that u(x) = u'(x) a.e. [2], [3] This is an elementary type of rigidity result. Livsic also applied this result to Anosov systems. Another approach to this result for subshifts of finite type and using Perron-Frobenius type operators appeared in [6]. In this note we shall discuss some simple generalisations of Livsic's result to other examples of dynamical systems. We shall be interested in systems with discontinuities or which are not uniformly hyperbolic and thus are not covered by Livsic's original results. In this context the Perron-Frobenius type operator method adapts easily to prove the generalisations of Livsic's original results. This chapter pursues three lines of investigation in the subject of functional analysis—one involving smooth functions and distributions, one involving fixed-point theorems, and one involving spectral theory.Section 1 introduces topological vector spaces. These are real or complex vector spaces with a Hausdorff topology in which addition and scalar multiplication are continuous. Examples include normed linear spaces, spaces given by a separating family of countably many seminorms, and weak and weak-star topologies in the context of Banach spaces. Various general properties of topological vector spaces are proved, and it is proved that the quotient of a topological vector space by a closed vector subspace is Hausdorff and is therefore a topological vector space.Section 2 introduces a topology on the space C∞(U) of smooth functions on an open subset of ℝN. The support of a continuous linear functional on C∞(U) is defined and shown to be a compact subset of U. Accordingly, the continuous linear functionals are called distributions of compact support.Section 3 studies weak and weak-star topologies in more detail. The main result is Alaoglu’s Theorem, which says that the closed unit ball in the weak-star topology on the dual of a normed linear space is compact. In an earlier chapter a preliminary form of this theorem was used to construct elements in a dual space as limits of weak-star convergent subsequences.Section 4 follows Alaoglu’s Theorem along a particular path, giving what amounts to a first example of the Gelfand theory of Banach algebras.
