This chapter provides a contemporary overview of the main properties of bulk lithium niobate (LiNbO3), highlighting the advantages of thin LiNbO3 films and their various applications in integrated electronics and optoelectronics. The chapter discusses different deposition techniques, each with its specific advantages and disadvantages. The structural and electrical properties of thin LiNbO3 films are significantly affected by the deposition regimes. Charge transport in LiNbO3-based heterostructures is influenced by both contact and bulk electron phenomena. Additionally, this chapter addresses the major application-focused challenges in the synthesis of thin LiNbO3 films.
