Mobile Cloud Computing

Mobile cloud computing (MCC) is a technique or model, in which mobile applications are built, powered and hosted using cloud computing technology. It refers to the availability of Cloud Computing services in a mobile environment and it is the combination of the heterogeneous fields like mobile phone device, cloud computing and wireless networks. Of all that has been written about cloud computing, precious little attention has been paid to authentication in the cloud. In this paper we have designed a new effective security model for mobile cloud Database as a Service (DBaaS). A user can change his/her password, whenever demanded. Furthermore, security analysis realizes the feasibility of the proposed model for DBaaS and achieves efficiency. We also proposed an efficient authentication scheme to solve the authentication problem in MCC. The proposed solution which we have provided is based mainly on improved Needham-Schroeder’s protocol to prove the users’ identity to determine if this user is authorized or not. The results showed that this scheme is very strong and difficult to break it.

Mobile cloud computing (MCC) is the availability of cloud computing services in a mobile environment. By providing optimal services for mobile users, MCC incorporates the elements of mobile networks and cloud computing. In mobile cloud computing, all the data and complicated computing modules can be processed in clouds, and mobile devices do not need a powerful configuration like CPU speed, memory capacity, etc. However, the mobile devices are facing up with many struggles in their resources (e.g., battery life, storage, and bandwidth) and communications (e.g., privacy, mobility, and security). These challenges have a significant effect on the improvement of service qualities. In this paper, a literature survey on the MCC and security issues in MCC has presented.

In recent years, mobile networks have faced with the increase of traffic demand. By emerging mobile applications and cloud computing, Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) has been introduced. In this research, we focus on the 4th and 5th generation of mobile networks. Data Centers (DCs) are connected to each other by high-speed links in order to minimize delay and energy consumption. By considering a model of the geographical distribution of DCs which uses a wideband optical network, renewable energy and sharing resources for new generations of mobile networks, the real effect of issues on the consumed energy, cost, and profit in the mobile cloud computing are investigated. We derived a penalty function for cost and then by using Lyapunov optimization theorem; we designed an algorithm to minimize the average cost of energy consumption based on the online information in MCC. The time average cost is at most O(1/V) above the optimum target, while the average queue size is O(V). The parameter V can be tuned to make the time average cost as close to (or below) the optimum as desired. We designed three scenarios and two classes of applications to set up our simulation environment. The provided results illustrate the efficiency of our proposed scheme and validate the mathematical model.

Mobile Cloud Computing is a combination of Mobile Computing, Cloud Computing and wireless networks to convey rich computational resources to mobile users, network operators, as well as cloud computing providers. Nowadays, the market of mobile devices and its applications are growing at an alarming speed. In general, single application for a specific purpose is not compatible to different operating systems. So the developer has to develop various versions of application which is compatible to different platforms. In order to overcome the drawback of compatibility and interoperability issues, HTML5-based mobile applications are built by using standard web technologies. HTML5-based mobile applications support same version of application in different platforms, but these applications are vulnerable to attacks because of the data and code being fused together. A new form of Code Injection Attack found in this type of mobile applications inherits the property of XSS attack and also uses many channels to inject malicious code such as Contact, SMS, WIFI, NFC, Barcode etc. This allows the attacker to inject malicious code to exhaust all the resources of the victim. Therefore, security is the major issue which impedes the development of Mobile Cloud Computing. This paper surveys the malicious code injection attacks in Mobile Cloud Computing environment and the possible solutions.

Mobile cloud computing (MCC) combines cloud computing and mobile internet to improve the computational capabilities of resource-constrained mobile devices (MDs). In MCC, mobile users could not only improve the computational capability of MDs but also save operation consumption by offloading the mobile applications to the cloud. However, MCC faces the problem of energy efficiency because of time-varying channels when the offloading is being executed. In this paper, we address the issue of energy-efficient scheduling for wireless uplink in MCC. By introducing Lyapunov optimization, we first propose a scheduling algorithm that can dynamically choose channel to transmit data based on queue backlog and channel statistics. Then, we show that the proposed scheduling algorithm can make a tradeoff between queue backlog and energy consumption in a channel-aware MCC system. Simulation results show that the proposed scheduling algorithm can reduce the time average energy consumption for offloading compared to the existing algorithm.

The advancements in the world of mobile technology have enabled computational intensive applications on the latest smart phones. Still Smart Mobile Devices (SMD's) have low potential and are unable to run complex applications due to their limited battery life, storage capacity, processor speed and energy. These limitations of smart phones can be addressed through Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC) which allows the computational intensive applications from smart phones to get offloaded over the cloud environment. In this paper, computation offloading scheme has been proposed that distributes the workload among various Virtual Machines (VM's) on the basis of their distance from the current VM. The offloading will decrease the load on the current VM and increase the performance and speed of execution. The Buffer Allocation Method (BAM) is proposed which will further enhance the performance by eliminating the redundancy of the data to be transmitted during offloading. The results indicate that the speed of execution increases, energy consumption decreases and the load gets balanced due to offloading.

As the technology is developing with a huge rate, the functionality of smartphone is also getting higher. But the smartphones have some resource constraints like processing power, battery capacity, limited bandwidth for connecting to the Internet, etc. Therefore, to improve the performance of smartphone in terms of processing power, battery and memory, the technology namely, augmented execution is the best solution in the mobile cloud computing (MCC) scenario. Mobile cloud computing works as the combination of mobile computing and cloud computing. Augmented execution alleviates the problem of resource scarcity of smartphone. To get the benefits from the resource-abundant clouds, massive computation intensive tasks are partitioned and migrated to the cloud side for the execution. After executing the task at the cloud side, the results are sent back to the smartphone. This method is called as the computation offloading. The given survey paper focuses on the partitioning techniques in mobile cloud computing.

In order to improve the effect of modern enterprise financial management, this paper improves the mobile cloud computing resource scheduling algorithm under the 5G network architecture. Moreover, this paper introduces mobile edge cloud computing, MEC server, into the financial 5G network system model. Taking into account the possible multihop RSU transmission of the calculation result back, this paper expresses the delay composition of the calculation task on the local execution and offloading to the MEC server in the form of a formula and proposes an offloading strategy based on the MEC load status. On this basis, this paper constructs a mobile cloud computing optimization system under the 5G network architecture and designs experiments to evaluate the performance of the system proposed in this paper. From the experimental research, we can see that the enterprise financial management optimization system based on mobile cloud computing under the 5G network architecture proposed in this paper has good effects in the optimization of corporate financial management.

Secure and quality-of-service-supported service-oriented architecture for mobile cloud handoff process

Background: The integration of mobile computing and cloud computing has the potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery by providing ubiquitous access to resources and enabling new service development and delivery models. While cloud computing has been extensively studied in fields such as genomics and molecular medicine, its application in healthcare beyond these domains remains relatively unexplored. This scoping review aims to identify the current state and emerging research topics in cloud computing in healthcare outside of the traditional “OMICS context.” Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in MEDLINE in July 2013 and December 2014 using keywords related to cloud computing and cloud-based services. The identified journal and conference articles were independently categorized and summarized by two researchers, who subsequently consolidated their findings. Results: A total of 102 publications were analyzed, revealing six main topics in cloud computing in healthcare: telemedicine/teleconsultation, medical imaging, public health and patient self-management, hospital management and information systems, therapy, and secondary use of data. Common features utilized in these applications included broad network access for data sharing and access, as well as rapid elasticity to meet computing demands. While some articles highlighted the cost-effectiveness of pay-per-use cloud services, only 14 articles reported successful implementations, with many publications focusing on conceptual or prototypic projects. Additionally, several articles equated cloud computing with internet-/web-based data sharing, failing to illustrate the unique benefits of the cloud computing paradigm. Conclusions: Although the integration of mobile computing and cloud computing in healthcare is gaining attention, successful implementations in the field are still limited. Many papers use the term “cloud” interchangeably with “virtual machines” or “web-based” without clearly demonstrating the advantages of the cloud paradigm. Data safety and security concerns associated with involving external cloud partners remain significant barriers to adoption in the healthcare domain. As of now, cloud computing is primarily favored for its individual features, such as elasticity, pay-per-use models, and broad network access, rather than as a comprehensive cloud computing paradigm.

The increasing usage of cloud computing, along with the proliferation of mobile devices and the demand for multimedia services, are changing the life style of users and creating new opportunities to providers and clients. Multimedia data will account for up to 90% of all Internet traffic in a few years, where most of the content will be created, shared, and accessed by mobile smartphones/tablets (carried by humans or placed in vehicles). However, this novel mobile multimedia era imposes new challenges for the networks, content, terminals, and humans, and must overcome problems associated, for instance, with high congestion, low scalability, fast battery consumption, and poor user experience. This paper discusses recent advances and challenges in human-centric mobile multimedia cloud computing approaches. On the one hand, Internet cloud will ubiquitously enrich multimedia mobile environments with more advanced and powerful features, including high processing and memory, scalability, availability, and adaptability. On the other hand, mobile devices will efficiently cooperate with each other to form mobile clouds that offload the Internet clouds from tasks that the latter cannot perform in a timely or efficient manner, including video and resource sharing. Both Internet and mobile clouds will be efficiently used to adapt/optimize multimedia flows to a single user or a group of users according to the current network conditions, context-awareness, content characteristics, device capabilities, and human experience.

Mobile cloud is the infrastructure that facilitates the offloading of storage and computing resources of mobile devices pertaining mobile applications to cloud computing. Cloud computing (CC) is on-demand accessibility of network resources, especially data storage and processing power, without special and direct management by the users. CC recently has emerged as a set of public and private datacenters that offers the client a single platform across the Internet. Edge computing is an evolving computing paradigm that brings computation and information storage nearer to the end-users to improve response times and spare transmission capacity. Mobile CC (MCC) uses distributed computing to convey applications to cell phones. However, CC and edge computing have security challenges, including vulnerability for clients and association acknowledgment, that delay the rapid adoption of computing models. Machine learning (ML) is the investigation of computer algorithms that improve naturally through experience. In this review paper, we present an analysis of CC security threats, issues, and solutions that utilized one or several ML algorithms. We review different ML algorithms that are used to overcome the cloud security issues including supervised, unsupervised, semi-supervised, and reinforcement learning. Then, we compare the performance of each technique based on their features, advantages, and disadvantages. Moreover, we enlist future research directions to secure CC models.
