This paper discusses and typifies logistics decision making in a highly complex system, namely an international fresh product supply chain network. Taking the floricultural sector as example case, we develop a conceptual model that incorporates the important system characteristics (e.g. network design, inventories), context factors (e.g. demand and supply uncertainty, perishability) and performance indicators (e.g. costs and responsiveness). We review literature and present quantitative modeling techniques that are used to design, plan and control a supply chain network. Given an assessment on the suitability of modeling techniques for specific characteristics of fresh products, we present a hybrid simulation and optimization modeling approach for the design and control of a fresh product supply chain network.

Nowadays, shareholders are being encouraged to enhance supply chain risk management in order to deal with several disruptive and operational risks. Producing spice and flavor is one of the high-risk industries as the main raw material is spice and its quality is variable and strongly depends on suppliers, seeds, and climate. Having a constant quality of spices and producing a flavor that satisfies every customer’s demand is intricate. Therefore, these companies encountered a variety of goods which increased complexity and uncertainty in supply, processing time, and demand. To come up with risks and uncertainties, in this paper a robust bi-objective multi-product mathematical model is developed to consider resiliency and uncertainty in a multi-period, multi-item supply chain network design simultaneously. The first objective function maximizes total profits when the second one maximizes the total score of resiliency in which Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Fuzzy Multi-Objective Optimization on the Basis of Ratio Analysis (MOORA) have been used to obtain the four resiliency factors weights for the objective function. We proposed an approach for making coordination between production planning, distribution, supplier selection, and order allocation in a flavor plant. The -constraint method is used to obtain Pareto solutions for a real case in Iran. Finally, sensitivity analysis has been done for tracking the trade-off between optimization and robustness with different robust parameters and investigating unmet demand and benefits of resilience consideration.

Computer network distributed monitoring and centralized forecasting of utility distribution system operations
Renewable-energy powered distributed generations (DGs) of electricity are becoming popular and start to show benefits, but their connection to the utility distribution systems brings operation challenges and supply uncertainty that must be carefully monitored and forecasted to provide data for correct controls of the systems. This paper proposes a new strategy for distributed monitoring and centralized forecasting of utility electricity distribution systems connected with DGs. The paper illustrates functional implementation for the distributed monitoring and centralized forecasting operations utilizing high-speed digital signal processing (DSP) technology and network classified data transmission (CDT) algorithm. The design of a new DSP-based network monitoring architecture is provided. This architecture is fault tolerant and has features from classical cascading, star, and ring architectures. The paper presents the CDT-based real-time data acquisition and DSP-based data post-processing strategy, design, and implementation.

Toward the integrated determination of a strategic production concept, distribution concept, service concept, and tranport concept for manufacturers of physical products
The right distribution concept and the right service concept play an important role in strategic decisions about a specific production concept and the location of production sites, especially for physical goods. This paper shows which design possibilities are suitable for distribution networks and service networks for particular markets and product characteristics, depending on the design of the production network. Secondly, the design possibilities for retail networks for decentralized distribution are deduced. Thirdly, the design possibilities for appropriate transport networks are considered. The result is a new sort of framework with which the appropriate concepts can be determined using a combination of generic characteristic values and the portfolio approach. The determination is integrative: a combination of designs of the production, distribution, service and transport networks both suit the product and the targeted customer segment, and fit well together.
