Abstract
The cover shows an artist′s impression of a cultured macrophage cell, bathed in lipopolysaccharide, depicted as faint wire structures. The cell senses there may be a bacterial infection to address, and forms projections, spreads out along the well bottom, and secretes cytokines. This inflammatory phenotype can be prevented by inhibitors of mitogen-activated protein kinase kinase (MEK), depicted as space filling structures. Design by B. M. Rabbitts.
