Object-oriented design for image processing applications

The role of design pattern in the form of software metric and internal code architecture for object-oriented design plays a critical role in software en-gineering in terms of production cost efficiency. This paper discusses about code reusability that is a frequently exercised cost saving methodology in IT produc-tion. After reviewing existing literatures towards study on software metrics, we found that very few studies are witnessed to incline towards code reusability. Hence, we developed a simple analytical model that establishes relationship between the design components of standard software metric and code reusability using case studies of three software projects (Customer Relationship Management project, Supply Chain Management project, and Enterprise Relationship Management project). We also testify our proposal using stochastic based Markov model to find that proposed system can extract significant information of maximized values of code reusability with increasing level of uncertainties of software project methodologies.

Chromatic and achromatic (AC) assessments of camouflage textiles have been critical to the defense researchers for concealment, detection, recognition, and identification (CDRI) of target signature against multidimensional combat background (CB). AC assessment and camouflage measurement techniques are simulated and experimented for assessment of camouflage textiles against CB. This model has been demonstrated for color measurement spectrophotometer, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), digital imaging, hyperspectral imaging, and image processing software (ImageJ) for the advancement and establishment of AC camouflage textiles assessment. The chromatic variations of 48 artificial target objects (TOBs) have been synthesized by image processing; the technique can be implemented for defense CB-CDRI assessment. Microstructural variation versus optical signal of woodland, desertland and stoneland CB materials have been elucidated by SEM magnification. The achromatic variation of CB materials have been demonstrated for the replacement of optical signal against modern remote sensing device to the imaging sensor. Color difference (Δ E), microstructural variations, pixel variations to imaging signal and standard deviation of CB materials have been represented for remote sensing surveillance of defense applications against TOB-CB-CDRI. Technical simulation of color, texture, gloss, and pixel intensity has been derived for AC-CDRI assessment of camouflage textiles in TOBs-CB environment.

The cost of software maintenance is always increasing. The companies are often confronted to failures and software errors. The quality of software to use is so required. In this paper, the authors propose a new formal approach for assessing the quality of object-oriented system design according to the quality assessment model. This approach consists in modeling the input software system by an automaton based on object-oriented design metrics and their relationship with the quality attributes. The model exhibits the importance of metrics through their links with the attributes of software quality. In addition, it is very practical and flexible for all changes. It allows the quality estimation and its validation. For the verification of proposed probabilistic model (automaton), they use the model-checking and the prism tool. The model-checking is very interesting for the evaluation and validation of the probabilistic automaton. They use it to approve the software quality of the three experimental projects. The obtained results are very interesting and of great importance.

Purpose The dicentric chromosome assay (DCA), recognized as the gold standard for biological dosimetry in emergency radiation exposure, involves multiple key steps. Among these, metaphase image selection remains ambiguous and particularly challenging for beginners. This study evaluates the impact of metaphase image selection on dicentric (Dic) frequency during initial training. Materials and methods Peripheral blood (PB) from three healthy donors was irradiated with 2 Gy X-rays and incubated at 37 °C for 2 h for DNA repair. PB samples were then cultured for 48 h with phytohemagglutinin and colcemid. After fixation, metaphase spreads were prepared, Giemsa-stained, and images were captured by specific microscope imaging and image processing software. Three beginners independently selected and analyzed 50 metaphase images each. A trainer with experience in performing radiation emergency related DCA then reviewed and removed unsuitable images. The beginners reanalyzed Dic frequencies, supplementing with additional images as needed to reach 50 metaphases. Dic frequencies were compared before and after image refinement. Results Dic frequencies were lower in metaphase image pools selected by beginners compared to those refined by the trainer. The novices’ selections included numerous over-condensed metaphases, making Dic detection difficult. Conclusion Blood culture for 48 h permanent colcemid treatment increases the occurrence of over-condensed chromosomes, affecting Dic scoring. This study highlights the importance of proper training in metaphase image selection and structured education on quality assessment, including the use of specific microscope imaging and image processing software to ensure accurate biological dosimetry.

Object-oriented software design utilizing Quality Function Deployment

This paper describes how to construct and develop a cloud service for medical image processing based on the service-oriented architecture (SOA), and implements hand X-ray imaging module, for example. SOA architecture is a model consists of different standard components of web services technology. The reason for using this architecture is that it can construct a flexible, reusable, interoperable with integrated interface for internal and external communication of the cloud service. Such as cloud internal applications, web applications and user related communication to achieve the goal of software as a service. We achieve the resources integration of SOA and image processing software “ImageJ” in order to solve the various technical limitations and the communication problems between the distributed techniques. ImageJ is widely used in the field of diagnostic medical imaging with a variety of image processing and analysis, and thus the performance is enhanced for our implementation of service-oriented model in cloud on image processing functions. This paper analyzes the SOA architecture in remote communications, security and development program based on the multi-layer approach. Furthermore, we implement a specific cloud service to show that improvement on the programming techniques and steps for web service access.

We present MOPEX - a software package for astronomical image processing and display. The package is a combination of command-line driven image processing software written in C/C++ with a Java-based GUI. The main image processing capabilities include creating mosaic images, image registration, background matching, point source extraction, as well as a number of minor image processing tasks. The combination of the image processing and display capabilities allows for much more intuitive and efficient way of performing image processing. The GUI allows for the control over the image processing and display to be closely intertwined. Parameter setting, validation, and specific processing options are entered by the user through a set of intuitive dialog boxes. Visualization feeds back into further processing by providing a prompt feedback of the processing results. The GUI also allows for further analysis by accessing and displaying data from existing image and catalog servers using a virtual observatory approach. Even though originally designed for the Spitzer Space Telescope mission, a lot of functionalities are of general usefulness and can be used for working with existing astronomical data and for new missions. The software used in the package has undergone intensive testing and benefited greatly from effective software reuse. The visualization part has been used for observation planning for both the Spitzer and Herschel Space Telescopes as part the tool Spot. The visualization capabilities of Spot have been enhanced and integrated with the image processing functionality of the command-line driven MOPEX. The image processing software is used in the Spitzer automated pipeline processing, which has been in operation for nearly 3 years. The image processing capabilities have also been tested in off-line processing by numerous astronomers at various institutions around the world. The package is multi-platform and includes automatic update capabilities. The software package has been developed by a small group of software developers and scientists at the Spitzer Science Center. It is available for distribution at the Spitzer Science Center web page.

The theoretical outcomes and experimental results of new color model implemented in algorithms and software of image processing are presented in the paper. This model, as it will be shown below, may be used in modern real time video processing applications such as radar tracking and communication systems. The developed model allows carrying out the image process with the least time delays (i.e. it speeding up image processing). The proposed model can be used to solve the problem of true color object identification Experimental results show that the time spent during RGI color model conversion may approximately four times less than the time spent during other similar models. .

In this chapter, we design and implement an extensible object storage system, called Soprano, in an object-oriented fashion which has shown great potential in extensibility and code reusability. Soprano provides a uniform object abstraction and gives us the convenience of persistent programming through many useful persistent classes. Also, Soprano supports efficient object management and pointer swizzling for fast object access. This chapter investigates several aspects of the design and implementation of the extensible object storage system. Our experience shows the feasibility of using an object-oriented design and implementation in building an object storage system that should have both extensibility and high performance.

The medical far infrared (FIR) imaging system has recently been modified to be more sensitive, rapid and cheap. Also, the image format for processing on a personal computer and output format from integrated circuit of a FIR sensor have gradually been standardized. The objective of the report is to develop an application software to analyze clinical FIR images. We developed new programs which are written as macro programs on commercially available image processing software and by which any digital image data with known data format becomes applicable to the standard FIR image analysis system. NIH Image was introduced as the image processing software. Sequences of calls or routines for medical oriented image processing were written with macro codes in Macintosh computers. We aimed to obtain the same image processing functions which had been developed for medical computer thermography systems. Every source FIR image was converted into temperature images (thermograms). Marking on the same temperature region (isotherm), making temperature profiles (line scan) and temperature histograms of region of interest (ROI), drawing temporal temperature difference images (dT thermogram), comparing the temperature difference of two ROI (asymmetry detection thermogram), and displaying thermography index thermogram (TI thermogram) have been developed.

13 - Software Design

High costs and long cycle times of software development are factors hindering the analysis and design of the complete cognitive aspects related to task performances. Reusable software has been proposed as a solution to the problem of high software development and maintenance costs. One of the paradigms for reusable software, object-oriented modelling, has emerged as an important method for specifying, creating and reusing software modules. Using Unified Modelling Language, this paper develops an object-oriented cognitive task analysis and design (OOCTAD) model based on human information-processing theory. First, human task performance-related cognitive aspects are classified into modules and logically linked together; secondly, cognitive aspects within these modules were further decomposed into packages and classes based on object-oriented technology. Finally, one case study was presented to compare and contrast different cognitive analysis models to illustrate the advantages of the OOCTAD model developed in the current research over the other five cognitive task analysis models. These reusable classes in the OOCATD model were shown to be reused to reduce software development costs and cycle times for cognitive task analysis and design. The current research should be of use to both developers and users of cognitively based tasks, systems and tools and researchers and practitioners in the broader discipline of cognitive tasks design and analysis.

A representation for any object-oriented software design is presented. The representation is based on a structured bipartite inheritance network, which is a network with two kinds of basic nodes-data entity nodes and action nodes-and an encapsulation mechanism-substructure. Data entity nodes and action nodes are independent of each other and structured into the inheritance hierarchy. The advantage of this representation is that all object-oriented software design can be represented in a uniform way, thereby making the software system more understandable and more maintainable.< <ETX xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">&gt;</ETX>
