Robust observer‐based stabilization of Lipschitz nonlinear uncertain systems via LMIs ‐ discussions and new design procedure
SummaryThis paper presents a new observer‐based controller design method for Lipschitz nonlinear systems with uncertain parameters and ‐bounded disturbance inputs. In the presence of uncertain parameters, the separation principle is not applicable even in the case of linear time invariant systems. A state of the art review for uncertain linear systems is first presented to describe the shortcomings and conservatism of existing results for this problem. Then a new LMI‐based design technique is developed to solve the problem for both linear and Lipschitz nonlinear systems. The features of the new technique are the use of a new matrix decomposition, the allowance of additional degrees of freedom in design of the observer and controller feedback gains, the elimination of any need to use equality constraints, the allowance of uncertainty in the input matrix and the encompassing of all previous results under one framework. An extensive portfolio of numerical case studies is presented to illustrate the superiority of the developed design technique to existing results for linear systems from literature and to illustrate application to Lipschitz nonlinear systems. Read moreController design for nonlinear quadratic Markov jumping systems with input saturation
This paper deals with the controller design problem of nonlinear quadratic Markov jumping systems with input saturation. Both mode-dependent and mode-independent state feedback controllers are designed. By using the concept of domain of attraction in mean square sense, sufficient conditions for stochastic stabilisation for nonlinear quadratic systems are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities. Certain existing results are improved. Simulation examples are presented to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

H∞Excitation Control Design for Stochastic Power Systems with Input Delay Based on Nonlinear Hamiltonian System Theory
This paper presentsH∞excitation control design problem for power systems with input time delay and disturbances by using nonlinear Hamiltonian system theory. The impact of time delays introduced by remote signal transmission and processing in wide-area measurement system (WAMS) is well considered. Meanwhile, the systems under investigation are disturbed by random fluctuation. First, under prefeedback technique, the power systems are described as a nonlinear Hamiltonian system. Then theH∞excitation controller of generators connected to distant power systems with time delay and stochasticity is designed. Based on Lyapunov functional method, some sufficient conditions are proposed to guarantee the rationality and validity of the proposed control law. The closed-loop systems under the control law are asymptotically stable in mean square independent of the time delay. And we through a simulation of a two-machine power system prove the effectiveness of the results proposed in this paper.
Read moreUnknown input observer design for one-sided Lipschitz nonlinear systems
This paper considers the observer design problem for one-sided Lipschitz nonlinear systems with unknown inputs. The systems under consideration are a larger class of nonlinearities than the well-studied Lipschitz systems and have inherent advantages with respect to conservativeness. For such systems, we first propose a full-order nonlinear unknown input observer (UIO) by using the linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. Following a similar design procedure and using state transformation, the reduced-order nonlinear UIO is also constructed. Sufficient conditions to guarantee existence of full-order and reduced-order UIOs are established by carefully considering the one-sided Lipschitz condition together with the quadratic inner-bounded condition. Based on the matrix generalized inverse technique, the UIO conditions are formulated in terms of LMIs. Moreover, the proposed observers are applied to a single-link flexible joint robotic system with unknown inputs. Simulation results are finally given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed design.

Robustness analysis and synthesis for nonlinear uncertain systems
A state-space characterization of robustness analysis and synthesis for nonlinear uncertain systems is proposed. The robustness of a class of nonlinear systems subject to L/sub 2/-bounded structured uncertainties is characterized in terms of a nonlinear matrix inequality (NLMI), which yields a convex feasibility problem. As in the linear case, scalings are used to find a Lyapunov or storage function that give sufficient conditions for robust stability and performances. Sufficient conditions for the solvability of robustness synthesis problems are represented in terms of NLMIs as well. With the proposed NLMI characterizations, it is shown that the computation needed for robustness analysis and synthesis is not more difficult than that for checking Lyapunov stability; the numerical solutions for robustness problems are approximated by the use of finite element methods or finite difference schemes, and the computations are reduced to solving linear matrix inequalities. Unfortunately, while the development in this paper parallels the corresponding linear theory, the resulting computational consequences are, of course, not as favourable.

Observer-Based Adaptive Neural Network Robust Control of Nonlinear Time-Delay Systems with Unmodeled Dynamics
An observer-based adaptive neural-network robust control for a class of nonlinear time-delay systems with unmodeled dynamics. It is presented for a class of nonaffine nonlinear time-delay systems with external disturbance and unavailable states. By the implicit function theorem, Taylor’s formula and mean theorem, the form of the non-affine nonlinear systems is transformed into the form of affine nonlinear systems. The controller designed to attenuate the effect of external disturbance and approximation errors of the neural networks on tracking. The unknown time-delay is compensated by using appropriate Young inequality, the weight update laws based on Lyapunov stability theory can guarantee the system stability and asymptotic convergence of the tracking error to zero. Theoretical analysis and simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.

Observer-based adaptive time-varying formation tracking of one-sided Lipschitz nonlinear multi-agent systems
In this article, the problem of time-varying formation (TVF) tracking for nonlinear multi-agent systems (MASs) is investigated. The agent dynamics are described by one-sided Lipschitz (OSL) and quadratic inner-boundedness (QIB) function. Adaptive continuous TVF tracking protocols for nonlinear MASs are proposed. Compared to prior nonlinear system, this approach is more general and less conservative than nonlinear system with large Lipschitz constant. In addition, the continuous protocols are proposed to avoid undesirable chattering from non-zero inputs of the leader. Finally, the expected theoretical results are achieved through effective numerical simulations.
Read moreA SOS-based approach to residual generators for discrete-time polynomial nonlinear systems
This paper mainly discusses the residual generation problem for discrete-time polynomial nonlinear systems with unknown inputs. By employing state-dependent polynomial Lyapunov functions, sufficient conditions for fault detection using lscr2-gain performance indices are presented in terms of nonlinear matrix inequalities (NMIs). We show that those NMIs can be solved by the recently developed technique named sum of squares (SOS), which essentially is an LMI feasibility problem.

This paper considers the reduced-order observer design problem for one-sided Lipschitz nonlinear systems with unknown inputs. The systems under consideration are a larger class of nonlinear systems than the well-studied Lipschitz systems and have inherent advantages with respect to conservativeness. For such systems, we propose a reduced-order unknown input observer (UIO) by using the linear matrix inequality (LMI) technique. Sufficient conditions that guarantee the existence of the reduced-order UIO are established and transformed into the format of LMIs via using the matrix generalized inverse technique. Simulation results are finally given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed design.
