Abstract
Only a decade ago it was still commonplace for scholars to decry the lack of attention given to the subject of ethics in relation to the Hebrew Bible. However, by 1990 this situation of neglect had already begun to change with the publication of a number of significant studies on OT ethics, and at the writing of this essay, there has been a further decade of considerable scholarly activity exploring a variety of issues concerning ethics and the Hebrew Bible. It is the intention of this essay to draw on the fruits of this renewed interest and to describe some of the key issues, methodological approaches, and insights emerging in the area of OT ethics.
