On Quasi-Baer and p.q.-Baer Modules

The Baer and the quasi-Baer properties of rings are extended to a module theoretic setting in this chapter. Using the endomorphism ring of a module, the notions of Baer, quasi-Baer, and Rickart modules are introduced and studied. Similar to the fact that every Baer ring is nonsingular, we shall see that every Baer module satisfies a weaker notion of nonsingularity of modules (\(\mathcal{K}\)-nonsingularity) which depends on the endomorphism ring of the module. Strong connections between a Baer module and an extending module will be observed via this weak nonsingularity and its dual notion. It is shown that an extending module which is \(\mathcal{K}\)-nonsingular is precisely a \(\mathcal{K}\)-cononsingular Baer module. This provides a module theoretic analogue of the Chatters-Khuri theorem for rings. Direct summands of Baer and quasi-Baer modules respectively inherit these properties. This provides a rich source of examples of Baer and quasi-Baer modules, since one can readily see that for any (quasi-)Baer ring R and an idempotent e in R, the right R-module eR R is always a (quasi-)Baer module. It will be seen that every projective module over a quasi-Baer ring is a quasi-Baer module. Connections of a (quasi-)Baer module and its endomorphism ring are discussed. Characterizations of classes of rings via the Baer property of certain classes of free modules over them are presented. An application also yields a type theory for \(\mathcal{K}\)-nonsingular extending (continuous) modules which, in particular, improve the type theory for nonsingular injective modules provided by Goodearl and Boyle.

A ring R is called right principally quasi-Baer (or simply right p.q.-Baer ) if the right annihilator of a principal right ideal of R is generated by an idempotent. Let R be a ring such that all left semicentral idempotents are central. Let α be an endomorphism of R which is not assumed to be surjective and R be α -compatible. It is shown that the skew power series ring R [[ x; α ]] is right p.q.-Baer if and only if the skew Laurent power series ring R [[ x, x−1 ; α ]] is right p.q.-Baer if and only if R is right p.q.-Baer and any countable family of idempotents in R has a generalized join in I ( R ). An example showing that the α -compatible condition on R is not superfluous, is provided.

This paper addresses the extension of the factorization of a Hermitian matrix by an eigenvalue decomposition (EVD) to the case of a parahermitian matrix that is analytic at least on an annulus containing the unit circle. Such parahermitian matrices contain polynomials or rational functions in the complex variable $z$ and arise, e.g., as cross spectral density matrices in broadband array problems. Specifically, conditions for the existence and uniqueness of eigenvalues and eigenvectors of a parahermitian matrix EVD are given, such that these can be represented by a power or Laurent series that is absolutely convergent, at least on the unit circle, permitting a direct realization in the time domain. Based on an analysis of the unit circle, we prove that eigenvalues exist as unique and convergent but likely infinite-length Laurent series. The eigenvectors can have an arbitrary phase response and are shown to exist as convergent Laurent series if eigenvalues are selected as analytic functions on the unit circle, and if the phase response is selected such that the eigenvectors are Holder continuous with $\alpha >\frac{1}{2}$ on the unit circle. In the case of a discontinuous phase response or if spectral majorisation is enforced for intersecting eigenvalues, an absolutely convergent Laurent series solution for the eigenvectors of a parahermitian EVD does not exist. We provide some examples, comment on the approximation of a parahermitian matrix EVD by Laurent polynomial factors, and compare our findings to the solutions provided by polynomial matrix EVD algorithms.

CHAPTER VI - REPRESENTATION OF REGULAR FUNCTIONS BY SERIES

Holomorphic functions differ fundamentally from real differentiable functions: they are infinitely often (real and complex) differentiable (II.3, II.7), they even admit power series expansions (II.4), their entire behaviour is determined by their values on arbitrarily small open sets (II.4, II.7), and they satisfy powerful convergence theorems and estimates (II.5). All of these properties are consequences of the Cauchy integral theorem and the integral representations that arise from it (II.1–3). Meromorphic functions extend the class of holomorphic functions (II.6); their study leads to the notion of isolated singularities and to generalizations of power series obtained by allowing negative powers (Laurent series). In addition to the phenomena that occur in the theory of functions of one complex variable, a fundamentally new phenomenon enters the picture in higher dimensions: the simultaneous holomorphic continuation of all holomorphic functions from a given domain to a larger one (II.7). Here the Cauchy integral formula (in one variable!) is again the decisive tool.

We continue the first and second authors’ study of q-commutative power series rings and Laurent series rings , specializing to the case in which the commutation parameters qij are all roots of unity. In this setting, R is a PI algebra, and we can apply results of De Concini, Kac, and Procesi to show that L is an Azumaya algebra whose degree can be inferred from the qij. Our main results establish an exact criterion (dependent on the qij) for determining when the centers of L and R are commutative Laurent series and commutative power series rings, respectively. In the event this criterion is satisfied, it follows that L is a unique factorization ring in the sense of Chatters and Jordan, and it further follows, by results of Dumas, Launois, Lenagan, and Rigal, that R is a unique factorization ring.

We propose an algorithm to put linear recurrent systems in a form which is convenient for using the systems to search for polynomial, power series, Laurent series, and other types of solutions of various linear functional systems (differential,difference and q-difference). Some algorithms to search for solutions of functional systems are described. None of the proposed algorithms requires preliminary uncoupling of linear systems

In this paper, we introduce the concepts of semi-Baer, semi-quasi Baer, semi-p.q. Baer and semi-p.p. modules as a generalization of Baer, quasi Baer, p.q. Baer and p.p. modules respectively. To define these concepts, we introduce concepts of multiplicative order of an element and a multiplicatively finite element in rings. Further, we characterize these concepts in modules over reduced rings. Also, it is proved that semi-Baer and semi-quasi Baer properties are preserved by polynomial extensions and power series extensions of modules. It is proved that for a ring R and a monoid G, if the semi group ring RG is semi-Baer (semi-quasi Baer) then so is R.

The main objective of this contribution is a constructive generalization of the holomorphic power and Laurent series expansions in ℂ to dimension 3 using the framework of hypercomplex function theory. This first article on hand deals with generalized Fourier and Taylor series expansions in the space of square integrable quaternion-valued functions which possess peculiar properties regarding the hypercomplex derivative and primitive. In analogy to the complex one-dimensional case, both series expansions are orthogonal series with respect to the unit ball in ℝ3 and their series coefficients can be explicitly (one-to-one) linked with each other. Finally, very compact and efficient representation formulae (recurrence, closed-form) for the elements of the orthogonal bases are presented.

We prove the undecidability of a very large class of restricted and unrestricted wreath products (Theorem 1.2), and of some skew fields of power series (Section2). Both undecidabilities are obtained by interpreting some enrichments of twisted wreath products, which are themselves proved to be undecidable (Proposition 1.1).We consider division rings of power series in various languages:We show (Theorem 2.8) that every power series division ring k((B)), whose field of constants k is commutative and whose ordered group of exponents is noncommutative with a convex center, is undecidable in every extension of the language of rings where the valuation and the ordered group B are definable.For certain k and B we prove here the undecidability of the structurewhere X↾k((B))xB is the restriction of the multiplication to k((B)) Χ B,and γ is a given conjugation of k((B)). This shows that we cannot hope to improve our previous result, a sort of Ax-Kochen-Ershov principle for power series division rings, which ensures thatis decidable for every decidable solvable B.

Noetherian rings with many derivations

The KdV‐Burgers equation is one of the most important partial differential equations, established by Korteweg and de Vries to describe the behavior of nonlinear waves and many physical phenomena. In this paper, we reformulate this problem in the sense of Caputo fractional derivative, whose physical meanings, in this case, are very evident by describing the whole time domain of physical processing. The main aim of this work is to present the analytical approximate series for the nonlinear Caputo fractional KdV‐Burgers equation by applying the Laplace residual power series method. The main tools of this method are the Laplace transform, Laurent series, and residual function. Moreover, four attractive and satisfying applications are given and solved to elucidate the mechanism of our proposed method. The analytical approximate series solution via this sweet technique shows excellent agreement with the solution obtained from other methods in simple and understandable steps. Finally, graphical and numerical comparison results at different values of α are provided with residual and relative errors to illustrate the behaviors of the approximate results and the effectiveness of the proposed method.

Four topics from calculus will be examined in this chapter: truncated series, formal power series, approximation theory, and limits From the examples it will be clear that various truncated series expansions such as Taylor series, Laurent series, Puisseux series, and Chebyshev series are available in Maple. Pade and Chebyshev-Pade are part of Maple’s numerical approximation package, which is called numapprox. When appropriate, series expansions are used in computing limits [72].

This paper introduces a novel methodological advancement in the derivation of the Negative Binomial Theorem through the application of Combinatorial Geometric Series (CGS). The research explores the convergence properties of the series, distinguishing between Power Series and Reciprocal Laurent Series based on variable magnitude to ensure numerical stability in diverse computational environments. This approach provides a closed-form expression that maps efficiently onto algorithmic structures, offering significant improvements for stochastic modeling in cryptography, machine learning, and high-dimensional data analytics.
