A lattice approach to narrow operators
It is known that if a rearrangement invariant function space E on (0,1) has an unconditional basis then each linear continuous operator on E is a sum of two narrow operators. On the other hand, the sum of two narrow operators in L1 is narrow. To find a general approach to these results, we extend the notion of a narrow operator to the case when the domain space is a vector lattice. Our main result asserts that the set Nr(E, F )o f all nar- row regular operators is a band in the vector lattice Lr(E, F) of all regular operators from a non-atomic order continuous Banach lattice E to an order continuous Banach lattice F. The band generated by the disjointness preserv- ing operators is the orthogonal complement to Nr(E, F )i nLr(E, F). As a consequence we obtain the following generalization of the Kalton-Rosenthal theorem: every regular operator T : E → F from a non-atomic Banach lattice E to an order continuous Banach lattice F has a unique representation as T = TD + TN where TD is a sum of an order absolutely summable family of disjointness preserving operators and TN is narrow. The problem of optimal capital and risk allocation among economic agents, has played a predominant role in the respective academic and industrial research areas for decades. Typically as risk occurs in face of randomness the risks which are to be measured are identified with real-valued random variables on some probability space (Ω, F, P). Consider a model space X , and n economic agents with initial endowments X1, · · · , Xn ∈ X who assess the riskiness of their positions by means of law-invariant convex risk measures ρi : X → (−∞,∞]. In order to minimize total and individual risk, the agents redistribute the aggregate endowment X = X1 + · · · + Xn among themselves. An optimal capital and risk allocation Y1, · · · , Yn satisfies Y1 + · · · + Yn = X and ρ1(Y1) + · · · + ρ(Yn) = inf nXn i=1 ρi(Xi) : Xi ∈ X , i = 1, . . . , n, and Xn i=1 Xi = X o , (0.1) where n i=1ρi(X) = inf nPn i=1 ρi(Xi) : Xi ∈ X , i = 1, . . . , n, and Pn i=1 Xi = X o is the inf-convolution of ρ1, ..., ρn. In 2008, Filipovi´c and Svindland proved that if X is an L p (P) for some 1 ≤ p ≤ ∞ and ρi satisfy a suitable continuity condition (i.e. Fatou property), then Problem (0.1) always admits a solution. To reflect the fact of randomness of risk, we should consider the model space X chosen for risk evaluations to be as general as possible. The main contribution of this thesis is Theorem 4.10 has been published in [9]. It extends Filipovi´c and Svindland’s result from L p spaces to general rearrangement invariant (r.i.) spaces.

We show that if a rearrangement invariant Banach function space E on the positive semi-axis satisfies a non-trivial lower q-estimate with constant 1 then the corresponding space E(M) of τ-measurable operators, affiliated with an arbitrary semi-finite von Neumann algebra M equipped with a distinguished faithful, normal, semi-finite trace τ, has the uniform Kadec-Klee property for the topology of local convergence in measure. In particular, the Lorentz function spaces Lq, p and the Lorentz-Schatten classes Cg, p have the UKK property for convergence locally in measure and for the weak-operator topology, respectively. As a partial converse, we show that if E has the UKK property with respect to local convergence in measure then E must satisfy some non-trivial lower q-estimate. We also prove a uniform Kadec-Klee result for local convergence in any Banach lattice satisfying a lower q-estimate.

In this paper continuous embeddings in spaces of harmonic functions with mixed norm on the unit ball in ℝ n are established, generalizing some Hardy-Littlewood embeddings for similar spaces of holomorphic functions in the unit disc. Differences in indices between the spaces of harmonic and holomorphic spaces are revealed. As a consequence an analogue of classical Fejér-Riesz inequality is obtained. Embeddings in the special case of Riesz systems are also established.

Let E E be a rearrangement invariant function space on ( 0 , ∞ ) \left ( {0,\infty } \right ) with the RNP. Let ( M , τ ) \left ( {M,\tau } \right ) be a von Neumann algebra with a faithful normal semifinite trace τ \tau . It is proved that the associated symmetric space L E ( M , τ ) {L_E}\left ( {M,\tau } \right ) of measurable operators has the RNP.
Read morePositive Operators on L p-spaces
Throughout this paper we denote by L p the Banach lattice of p-integrable functions on a σ-finite measure space (X, B, μ), where 1 ≤ p ≤ ∞. We will consider those aspects of the theory of positive linear operators, which are in some way special due to the fact the operators are acting on L p-spaces. For general information about positive operators on Banach lattices we refer to the texts [1]. [20], and [36]. Our focus on L p-spaces does not mean that in special cases some of the results can not be extended to a larger class of Banach lattices of measurable function such as Orlicz spaces or re-arrangement invariant Banach function spaces. However in many cases the results in these extensions are not as precise or as complete as in the case of L p-spaces. We will discuss results related to the boundedness of positive linear operators on L p-spaces. The most important result is the so-called Schur criterion for boundedness. This criterion is the most frequently used tool to show that a concrete positive linear operator is bounded from L p to L q. Then we will show how this result relates to the change of density result of Weis [33]. Next the equality case of Schur’s criterion is shown to be closely related to the question whether a given positive linear operator attains its norm. We discuss in detail the properties of norm attaining operators on L p-spaces and discuss as an example the weighted composition operators on L p-spaces. Then we return to the Schur criterion and show how it can be applied to the factorization theorems of Maurey and Nikisin. Most results mentioned in this paper have appeared before in print, but sometimes only implicitly and scattered over several papers. Also a number of the proofs presented here are new.

Motivated by recent applications of weighted norm inequalities to maximal regularity of first and second order Cauchy problems, we study real interpolation spaces on the basis of general Banach function spaces and, in particular , weighted rearrangement invariant Banach function spaces. We show equivalence of the trace method and the K-method, identify real interpolation spaces between a Banach space and the domain of a sectorial operator, and reprove an extension of Dore's theorem on the boundedness of H ∞-functional calculus to this general setting.

Real interpolation and monotone spaces
This chapter concludes the analysis of the tracial setting by showing that real interpolation extends to the context of tracial Lp and Orlicz spaces in a manner which closely mimics the classical theory. After a brief consideration of a noncommutative Marcinkiewicz interpolation theorem, we then go on to enlarge our pool of noncommutative spaces by using the K-method of interpolation to introduce a very general class of noncommutative rearrangement invariant Banach function spaces – the so-called monotone Riesz-Fischer spaces. Our approach to this by now well-known theory is slightly non-standard in that we introduce the theory by exploiting the known theory of modular interpolation spaces. As a result we are able to get to the cut of the chase a lot quicker.

On Distributions That Are Almost Periodic at Infinity
This paper is devoted to the study of slowly varying and almost periodic at infinity distributions from harmonic spaces; a number of spaces of homogeneous functions are considered. The notion of a harmonic space of distributions is introduced; this space is constructed by a homogeneous functional spaces. Properties of harmonic spaces of distributions endowed with the structure of Banach modules are studied. We prove that such spaces are isometrically isomorphic to the corresponding homogeneous functional spaces. Based on the definitions of slowly varying and almost periodic at infinity functions from a homogeneous space, we introduce the notions of slowly varying and almost periodic at infinity distributions from a harmonic space. Using methods of abstract harmonic analysis, we construct Fourier series of almost periodic distributions at infinity and examine their properties. In this paper, we essentially used results of the theory of isometric representations and the theory of Banach modules.

In this paper we study the Cauchy problem for a class of semi-linear parabolic type equations with weak data in the homogeneous spaces. We give a method which can be used to construct local mild solutions of the abstract Cauchy problem inĊσ,s,p andLq([0, T);Hs,p) by introducing the concept of both admissible quintuplet and compatible space and establishing time-space estimates for solutions to the linear parabolic type equations. For the small data, we prove that these results can be extended globally in time. We also study the regularity of the solution to the abstract Cauchy problem for nonlinear parabolic type equations in Ċσ,s,p. As an application, we obtain the same result for Navier-Stokes equations with weak initial data in homogeneous Sobolev spaces.

We characterize all (signed) measures in $BV_{\frac{n}{n-1}}(\mathbb{R}^n)^*$, where $BV_{\frac{n}{n-1}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ is defined as the space of all functions $u$ in $L^{\frac{n}{n-1}}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ such that $Du$ is a finite vector-valued measure. We also show that $BV_{\frac{n}{n-1}}(\mathbb{R}^n)^*$ and $BV(\mathbb{R}^n)^*$ are isometrically isomorphic, where $BV(\mathbb{R}^n)$ is defined as the space of all functions $u$ in $L^{1}(\mathbb{R}^n)$ such that $Du$ is a finite vector-valued measure. As a consequence of our characterizations, an old issue raised in Meyers-Ziemer [MZ] is resolved by constructing a locally integrable function $f$ such that $f$ belongs to $BV(\mathbb{R}^n)^{*}$ but $|f|$ does not. Moreover, we show that the measures in $BV_{\frac{n}{n-1}}(\mathbb{R}^n)^*$ coincide with the measures in $\dot W^{1,1}(\mathbb{R}^n)^*$, the dual of the homogeneous Sobolev space $\dot W^{1,1}(\mathbb{R}^n)$, in the sense of isometric isomorphism. For a bounded open set $\Omega$ with Lipschitz boundary, we characterize the measures in the dual space $BV_0(\Omega)^*$. One of the goals of this paper is to make precise the definition of $BV_0(\Omega)$, which is the space of functions of bounded variation with zero trace on the boundary of $\Omega$. We show that the measures in $BV_0(\Omega)^*$ coincide with the measures in $W^{1,1}_0(\Omega)^*$. Finally, the class of finite measures in $BV(\Omega)^*$ is also characterized.
