In this paper, a hybrid fuzzy adaptive output feedback control design approach is proposed for a class of multiinput and multioutput strict-feedback nonlinear systems with unknown time-varying delays, unmeasured states, and input saturation. First, fuzzy logic systems are employed to approximate unknown nonlinear functions in the system. Next, a smooth function is used to approximate the input saturation and an adaptive fuzzy state observer is constructed to solve the problem of unmeasured states. Based on the designed adaptive fuzzy state observer, a serial-parallel estimation model is established. By applying adaptive fuzzy dynamic surface control technique and utilizing the prediction error between the system states observer model and the serial-parallel estimation model, a new fuzzy controller with the composite parameters adaptive laws is developed based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional. It is proved that all variables of the closed-loop system are bounded and the system outputs can follow the given bounded reference signals as close as possible. A simulation example is provided to further show the effectiveness of this novel control scheme.

Adaptive control for uncertain nonlinear systems with state-function constraints and input delay

Most optimal control method aim at finding a control law to minimize the corresponding cost function, and the key problem is to solve the Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman equation (HJBE). However, the solution of HJBE is hard and even unavailable to obtain for nonlinear system and, thus, the optimal control method can not be developed. To address this problem, an adaptive neural inverse optimal control method is proposed for nonlinear systems with external disturbances and actuator failures in this article. The cost function in this article is defined based on the controller and, therefore, once the controller is obtained, the corresponding cost function is minimized. Accordingly, the directly solution of HJBE is avoided. In more detail, the auxiliary system is constructed to develop the auxiliary controller, based on which the actual optimal fault-tolerant controller can be further obtained. The uncertainties in system dynamics are compensated by neural networks, and the unknown actuator failures are handled by adaptive control gain. It is proved that nonlinear system is input-to-state stabilizable (ISS) and the proposed controller can minimize the cost function that puts penalty on tracking error and system input. Two simulation examples are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control method.

This paper addresses the problem of state estimation and the tracking control scheme combining fuzzy control technique for a class of MIMO nonlinear systems, in which some variables are not measurable, with plant uncertainties and external disturbances First, the nonlinearities are approximated using neural networks, and then are modeled based on linear difference inclusions(LDI), which makes the structure of the desired filter simpler and parameter turning easier. A unified framework is established to solve the addressed H ∞ filtering problem by exploiting linear matrix inequality (LMI) approach. The proposed control law is based on indirect adaptive fuzzy control and uses two on-line estimations. The adaptive fuzzy tracking control using Variable Structure (VS) control technique is derived based on Lyapunov criterion to resolve system uncertainties and external disturbances. This is done in such a way that all states of the system are bounded and the H ∞ tracking performance is achieved. Finally, A numerical example is investigated to demonstrate the feasibility and the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

An adaptive control method of black-box nonlinear systems is presented. The control law is derived based on minimizing a suitably chosen performance index, and its implementation requires only the calculation of two key quantities, i.e., the sensitivity between the controlled system input and output and the quasi-one-step-ahead predictive output of the controlled system. In the paper, the sensitivity of the plant is estimated using the recursive rectangular window least square algorithm, and the predictive output is obtained by a recurrent neural network. The simulation results show that the proposed adaptive control method can effectively control a class of unknown nonlinear systems.

A parameter dependent Riccati equation approach is taken to analyze the stability properties of an output feedback adaptive control law design. The adaptive controller is intended to augment a nominal, fixed gain, observer based output feedback control law. Although the formulation is in the setting of model following adaptive control, the realization of the adaptive controll er does not require implementing the reference model. In this regard, the cost of implementing the adaptive controller above that of a fixed gain control law is far less than that of other methods. The error signals are shown to be uniformly ultimately bounded and an expression for the ultimate bound is provided. The control design process and theoretical results are illustrated using a model for wing-rock dynamics. Research in adaptive output feedback control of uncertain nonlinear systems is motivated by the many emerging applications that employ novel actuation devices for active control of flexible structures and fluid flows. These applications include actuators such as piezo-electric films and s ynthetic jets, which are typically nonlinearly coupled to t he plant dynamics they are intended to control. Models for these applications vary from accurate low frequency models to models that crudely approximate the true dynamics even at low frequencies. Examples of applications include active damping of flexible structures, control of aeroservoelasti c aircraft, and active control of flows. Adaptive control can be used to satisfy performance requirements in the presence of large scale parameter uncertainty, and improved safety in the event of actuator failure.

In this work, the tracking control problem of nonlinear system which contains unknown parameters, multiple state delays, external disturbances and the dead-zone input is studied. By introducing a dynamic gain-based adaptive control strategy and employing a new Lyapunov–Krasovskii (L–K) functional, we construct an adaptive tracking controller to ensure the boundedness of all the states and guarantee the tracking error small enough. Two examples are given to verify the correctness of the control theory.

Event-triggered low-computation adaptive output-feedback fuzzy tracking control of uncertain nonlinear systems

This paper deals with an adaptive robust tracking control using a multilayer neural network (NN) for a class of nonlinear dynamic systems with unknown time varying state delays. Typical adaptive NN backstepping controllers for uncertain nonlinear systems with time-delay give rise to computation complexity caused by the the repeated derivatives of virtual controllers and nonlinear functions. Moreover, the combined techniques usually result in only uniformly ultimately bounded (UUB) stability caused by the inherent NN approximation error. This paper presents a control scheme that uses an integral sliding mode control as a feedback term and an adaptive neural controller as a feedforward term based on the desired compensation adaptive law (DCAL) technique. First, we develop a new DCAL formulation which avoids the explosion of complexity caused by the general NN backstepping scheme to compensate for nonlinear system uncertainties, bounded system disturbances, and unknown state time delays. Then, using a Lyapunov-Krasovskii (LK) functional, it is shown that the proposed controller renders the class of uncertain nonlinear time-delay systems asymptotically stable.

In this paper, a fuzzy adaptive output feedback control approach is developed for a class of SISO strict-feedback nonlinear systems with unmeasured states, unmodeled dynamics, and dynamical disturbances. In the backstepping recursive design, fuzzy logic systems are used to approximate the unknown nonlinear functions, a fuzzy adaptive high-gain observer is designed to estimate the unmeasured states; a dynamic signal is incorporated into the control scheme to dominate the dynamic uncertainties. Using the states estimates and combining the backstepping design technique, a fuzzy adaptive output feedback control is constructed recursively. It is proved that the proposed fuzzy adaptive output feedback control scheme can guarantee the all signals in the closed-loop system are semiglobally uniformly ultimately bounded (SUUB), and the observer and tracking error converges to a small neighborhood of the origin. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is illustrated via an example.

The problem of adaptive robust control for uncertain nonlinear systems with time-varying delay is considered in this paper. The upper bound of the uncertainty is assumed to be nonlinear functions with unknown coefficients. By using adaptive control method, a class of adaptive robust state feedback controller is proposed. Based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii method and Lyapunov stability theory, it is shown that the controller designed can render the uniform asymptotic stability of the system. Finally, a numerical example is given to show the controller is valid.

This paper presents an adaptive neural control design for a class of unknown nonlinear systems. Novel state variables and the corresponding transform are introduced, such that the state-feedback control of a pure-feedback system can be viewed as the output-feedback control of a canonical system. An adaptive predictor incorporated with a neural network observer is proposed to obtain the future system states predictions, which are used in the control design to circumvent the input delay and nonlinearities. The proposed predictor, observer and controller are all online implemented, and the closed-loop system stability is guaranteed. The conventional backstepping design and analysis for pure-feedback systems are avoided, which renders the developed scheme simpler in its synthesis and application. Practical guidelines on the control implementation and the parameter design are provided. The applicability in nonlinear system is demonstrated by simulation experiments.
