A Collection of Minimally Path Square-Saturated Graphs
Given a simple graph G, m a positive integer. The square of path graph P_m, denoted by P_m^2, is a graph obtained from P_m by adding new edges between any pair of vertices at distance at most 2 in P_m. A graph G is P_m^2-saturated if G does not contain P_m^2 as a subgraph, but the addition of any edge between two nonadjacent vertices in G contain P_m^2. The minimum size of P_m^2-saturated graph on n vertices is called a saturation number for P_m^2, denoted by sat(n,P_m^2). A set Sat(n,P_m^2 )={G:|V(G)|=sat(n,P_m^2) and G a P_m^2-saturated graph}. All graphs in Sat(n,P_m^2) are obtained computationally for n≤8 and m≤8 and expressed by their degree sequence.

Group Colorability and Hamiltonian Properties of Graphs
The research of my dissertation was motivated by the conjecture of Thomassen that every 4-connected line graph is hamiltonian and by the conjecture of Matthews and Sumner that every 4-connected claw-free graph is hamiltonian. Towards the hamiltonian line graph problem, we proved that every 3-edge-connected, essentially 4-edge-connected graph G has a spanning eulerian subgraph, if for every pair of adjacent vertices u and v, dG(u) + dG(v) ≥ 9. A straight forward corollary is that every 4-connected, essentially 6-connected line graph with minimum degree at least 7 is hamiltonian.;We also investigate graphs G such that the line graph L(G) is hamiltonian connected when L( G) is 4-connected. Ryjacek and Vrana recently further conjectured that every 4-connected line graph is hamiltonian-connected. In 2001, Kriesell proved that every 4-connected line graph of a claw free graph is hamiltonian connected. Recently, Lai et al showed that every 4-connected line graph of a quasi claw free graph is hamiltonian connected, and that every 4-connected line graph of an almost claw free graph is hamiltonian connected. In 2009, Broersma and Vumer discovered the P3-dominating (P3D) graphs as a superfamily that properly contains all quasi claw free graphs, and in particular, all claw-free graphs. Here we prove that every 4-connected line graph of a P3D graph is hamiltonian connected, which extends several former results in this area.;R. Gould [15] asked what natural graph properties of G and H are sufficient to imply that the product of G and H is hamiltonian. We first investigate the sufficient and necessary conditions for G x H being hamiltonian or traceable when G is a hamiltonian graph and H is a tree. Then we further investigate sufficient and necessary conditions for G x H being hamiltonian connected, or edge-pancyclic, or pan-connected.;The problem of group colorings of graphs is also investigated in this dissertation. Group coloring was first introduced by Jeager et al. [21]. They introduced a concept of group connectivity as a generalization of nowhere-zero flows. They also introduced group coloring as a dual concept to group connectivity. Prior research on group chromatic number was restricted to simple graphs, and considered only Abelian groups in the definition of chi g(G). The behavior of group coloring for multigraphs is different to that of simple graphs. Thus we extend the definition of group coloring by considering general groups (both Abelian groups and non-Abelian groups), and investigate the properties of chig for multigraphs

Letk be a positive integer, and letG be a graph of ordern withn ? 4k ? 5,kn even and minimum degree at leastk. We prove that if the degree sum of each pair of nonadjacent vertices is at leastn, thenG has ak-factor.

For any graph $G=(V,E)$ with maximum degree $\Delta$ and without isolated edges, and a positive integer $r$, by $\chi'_{\Sigma,r}(G)$ we denote the $r$-distant sum distinguishing index of $G$. This is the least integer $k$ for which a proper edge colouring $c:E\to\{1,2,\ldots,k\}$ exists such that $\sum_{e\ni u}c(e)\neq \sum_{e\ni v}c(e)$ for every pair of distinct vertices $u,v$ at distance at most $r$ in $G$. It was conjectured that $\chi'_{\Sigma,r}(G)\leq (1+o(1))\Delta^{r-1}$ for every $r\geq 3$. Thus far it has been in particular proved that $\chi'_{\Sigma,r}(G)\leq 6\Delta^{r-1}$ if $r\geq 4$. Combining probabilistic and constructive approach, we show that this can be improved to $\chi'_{\Sigma,r}(G)\leq (4+o(1))\Delta^{r-1}$ if the minimum degree of $G$ equals at least $\ln^8\Delta$.

For a simple planar graph G and a positive integer k, we prove the upper bound 2(n − 1)k + 4k(n − 4) + 2·3k − 2((δ + 1)k − δk)(3n − 6 − m) on the sum of the kth powers of the degrees of G, where n, m, and δ are the order, the size, and the minimum degree of G, respectively. The bound is tight for all m with 0⩽3n − 6 − m≤⌊n/2⌋ − 2 and δ = 3. We also present upper bounds in terms of order, minimum degree, and maximum degree of G. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Compound Poisson approximation of subgraph counts in stochastic block models with multiple edges
We use the Stein‒Chen method to obtain compound Poisson approximations for the distribution of the number of subgraphs in a generalised stochastic block model which are isomorphic to some fixed graph. This model generalises the classical stochastic block model to allow for the possibility of multiple edges between vertices. We treat the case that the fixed graph is a simple graph and that it has multiple edges. The former results apply when the fixed graph is a member of the class of strictly balanced graphs and the latter results apply to a suitable generalisation of this class to graphs with multiple edges. We also consider a further generalisation of the model to pseudo-graphs, which may include self-loops as well as multiple edges, and establish a parameter regime in the multiple edge stochastic block model in which Poisson approximations are valid. The results are applied to obtain Poisson and compound Poisson approximations (in different regimes) for subgraph counts in the Poisson stochastic block model and degree corrected stochastic block model of Karrer and Newman (2011).

By using the Szemerédi Regularity Lemma, Alon and Sudakov recently extended the classical Andrásfai-Erdős-Sós theorem to cover general graphs. We prove, without using the Regularity Lemma, that the following stronger statement is true. Given any $(r+1)$-partite graph $H$ whose smallest part has $t$ vertices, there exists a constant $C$ such that for any given $\varepsilon>0$ and sufficiently large $n$ the following is true. Whenever $G$ is an $n$-vertex graph with minimum degree $$\delta(G)\geq\left(1-{3\over 3r-1}+\varepsilon\right)n,$$ either $G$ contains $H$, or we can delete $f(n,H)\leq Cn^{2-{1\over t}}$ edges from $G$ to obtain an $r$-partite graph. Further, we are able to determine the correct order of magnitude of $f(n,H)$ in terms of the Zarankiewicz extremal function.

On Minimum k-Edge-Connectivity Augmentation for Specified Vertices of a Graph with Upper Bounds on Vertex-Degree
The k-edge-connectivity augmentation problem for a specified set of vertices of a graph with degree constraints, kECA-SV-DC, is defined as follows: Given an undirected multigraph G = (V, E), a specified set of vertices S ⊆ V and a function g: V→Z+∪{∞}, find a smallest set E' of edges such that (V, E ∪ E') has at least k edge-disjoint paths between any pair of vertices in S and such that, for any νe V, E' includes at most g(v) edges incident to v, where Z+ is the set of nonnegative integers. This paper first shows polynomial time solvability of kECA-SV-DC and then gives a linear time algorithm for 2ECA-SV-DC.
