Paving the way for future educational progress

Background: While it is commonly recognized that almost every work and research discipline utilize their own taxonomy, the language used within a specific discipline may also vary depending on numerous factors, including the desired effect of the information being communicated and the intended audience. Different audiences are reached through publication of information, including research results, in different types of publication outlets such as newspapers, newsletters, magazines, websites, and journals. Prior research has shown that students, both undergraduate and graduate, as well as faculty may have a difficult time locating information in different publication outlet types (e.g., magazines, newspapers, journals). The type of publication may affect the ease of understanding and also the confidence placed in the acquired information. A text analytics tool for classifying the source of research as a newsletter (used as a substitute for newspaper articles), a magazine, or an academic journal article has been developed to assist students, faculty, and researchers in identifying the likely source type of information and classifying their own writings with respect to these possible publication outlet types. Literature Review: Literature on information literacy is discussed as this forms the motivation for the reported research. Additionally, prior research on using text mining and text analytics is examined to better understand the methodology employed, including a review of the original Scale of Theoretical and Applied Research system, adapted for the current research. Research Questions: The primary research question is: Can a text mining and text analytics approach accurately determine the most probable publication source type with respect to being from a newsletter, magazine, or journal? Methodology: A text mining and text analytics algorithm, STAR’ (System for Text Analytics-based Ranking), was developed from a previously researched text mining tool, STAR (Scale of Theoretical and Applied Research), that was used to classify the research type of articles between theoretical and applied research. The new text mining method, STAR’, analyzes the language used in manuscripts to determine the type of publication. This method first mines all words from corresponding publication source types to determine a keyword corpus. The corpus is then used in a text analytics process to classify full newsletters, magazine articles, and journal articles with respect to their publication source. All newsletters, magazine articles, and journal articles are from the library and information sciences (LIS) domain. Results: The STAR’ text analytics method was evaluated as a proof of concept on a specific LIS organizational newsletter, as well as articles from a single LIS magazine and a single LIS journal. STAR’ was able to classify the newsletters, magazine articles, and journal articles with 100% accuracy. Random samples from another similar LIS newsletter and a different LIS journal were also evaluated to examine the robustness of the STAR’ method in the initial proof of concept. Following the positive results of the proof of concept, additional journal, magazine, and newsletter articles were used to evaluate the generalizability of STAR’. The second-round results were very positive for differentiating journals and newsletters from other publication types, but revealed potential issues for distinguishing magazine articles from other types of publications. Discussion: STAR’ demonstrates that the language used for transferring information within a specific discipline does differ significantly depending on the intended recipients of the research knowledge. Further work is needed to examine language usage specific to magazine articles. Conclusions: The STAR’ method may be used by students and faculty to identify the likely source of research or discipline-specific information. This may improve trust in the reliability of information due to different levels of rigor applied to different types of publications. Additionally, the STAR’ classifications may be used by students, faculty, or researchers to determine the most appropriate type of outlet and correspondingly the most appropriate type of audience for the reported information in their own manuscripts, thereby improving the chance for successful sharing of information to appropriate audiences who will deem the information to be reliable, through publication in the most relevant outlet type.

A review of the explosion of Internet-accessible World-Wide Web servers and their impact on Electronic Design and Design Automation. Also a discussion of how internal Web Servers, such as those run by CAE managers at Cisco, and Silicon Graphics, interact with vendor (e.g. Cadence, Marshall, and Synopsys) and university servers (e.g. SIGDA). The World-Wide Web is enabling the delivery of product documentation, software, software patches, demo software, newspaper articles, part information, magazine articles, quotations, and much more to the engineer's desktop. Panel members will briefly describe how their organization is using WWW technology and then give their observations and speculations on how it has affected and will affect electronic design methodology and business practices.

The study was carried out to assess public relations’ practice of Edo State University Uzairue. The study was predicated on Systems Theory (ST). The objectives were to determine the extent whether or not the Institution has a functional public relations department and to evaluate the extent of its public relations activities’ effectiveness, amongst others. Interview schedule was used to elicit information from the public relations office headed by the public relations officer. Findings indicates, amongst others, that the University has a public relations office, but does not have public relations department, and that the extent of her public relations activities’ effectiveness is average, amongst others. Given the above and the enormity of the importance of public relations to the educational institutions, the study, thus, recommend that Edo State University Uzairue should set-up a PR department with its ancillary compliments; step-up, and also, utilise effective public relations strategies in order to achieve effectiveness in its public relations’ campaigns or activities.

In 1994, a magazine article, a newspaper article, and a segment of the television newsmagazine 60 Minutes presented information that cast doubt on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's conclusion that a dentist in Florida had infected six of his patients with the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). These reports were based on previously unavailable documentary evidence, which suggested that the infected patients had unreported or undetected risk factors for HIV infection and that the molecular analyses used to determine that the dentist and his patients had the same strains of HIV had potentially serious flaws. A recent article in this journal sought to dismiss the relevance of this information in the eyes of the scientific community. That report, however, failed to respond directly to many key pieces of evidence, and it offered no rebuttal beyond personal invective and a reassertion of previously published material. Although scientists and clinicians should not rely solely on media reports when drawing conclusions about this complex and controversial case, they deserve a chance to consider and reflect on this material in a meaningful way.

Using materials from British government and oil company archives, as well as magazine articles, newspaper articles, and other published sources in English and Arabic, this article addresses the group identities of the ethnic communities of Kirkuk, Iraq, in the context of the city’s growth as a result of the presence of the Iraqi oil industry. It contends that in the early to mid-twentieth century, Kirkuk developed a distinct domain of urban politics in which previously fluid ethnic identities hardened and in which Kirkukis, at one time more reliant on external patronage, became deeply invested. These circumstances led to intercommunal tensions and violence in the city in Iraq’s post-1958 revolutionary era.

One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative is a historical initiative which connects the people over the world and facilitates various opportunities for global peace. The main purpose of this study is to explore implication of One Belt One Road initiative for global future development. It also analyzes the reasons of origin, strategy, opportunities and challenges of OBOR initiatives on the basis of business, economic, political, social and environmental aspects. This study uses qualitative approach and secondary data particularly journal articles, conference proceedings, various documents of government, books, newspaper articles, magazine articles, and various websites of internet have been extensively used to determine the objectives. This article argues that partner countries and agencies will get economic and political benefits from these initiatives. It facilitates to connect people through road ways, air ways and water ways, coordinating policies of various governments, financial integration through cross border business, productivity and regional energy security. This study also analyzes risks and challenges associated to OBOR initiative implementation. It suggests that strong coordination among partners of OBOR is necessary to get full fruits of OBOR through supportive law, policy, rules and regulations, proper strategy implementation, transparent procurement system, sincere consideration on political, financial, environmental and social factors.

El artículo trata sobre a la incorporación al derecho interno del Convenio 169 de OIT, específicamente en lo que respecta a la consulta a los pueblos originarios, instituida en el artículo 6 del relacionado instrumento internacional. La inquietud sobre el mismo estriba en si su naturaleza es vinculante o no. Previo al abordaje de este tema, se hace un breve recorrido histórico y una semblanza puntual de lo que se ha de entender como sistema jurídico. Se consultaron para el efecto, fundamentalmente, trabajos sobre la historia latinoamericana, trabajos vinculados al análisis de los sistemas jurídicos, ensayos sobre el derecho de los pueblos originarios, así como artículos de revistas y periódicos, además de referencias electrónicas, disponibles en la Internet. The present article turns around the incorporation to the internal law of Agreement 169 of OIT, specifically with regard to the consultation to the original people, as stables article 6 of the related international instrument. The scope of the study is historiography development in interwar Poland (1918– 1939), in particular, the accumulation of facts and the development of value judgments about the 1863–1864 Uprising on the territory of Belarus. The analysis was conducted on the basis of the Biography Studies and Regional Studies of the Uprising, published during the mentioned period (books, scientific and popular articles in magazines and newspapers). It shows that the area of these studies was actively developing during the interwar twenty years, which resulted in the creation of about 70 publications. However, the Polish historians at that time were not able to overcome political bias, introduce a large number of documentary sources and generally to turn to large-scale integrated scientific researches.

Background & objectives: Social marketing has increasingly been employed to influence health behaviors in recent years.This systematic review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of nutritional interventions grounded in social marketing theory.Methods: The study involved a systematic review of interventions identified through keyword searches in three English databases: PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science.All relevant studies published up to March 2023 were included, with no time restrictions.The initial search yielded 185 articles, of which 13 met the criteria for healthy eating education based on social marketing principles. Results:The majority of the studies were mixed-method (quantitative and qualitative), with the highest frequency of research conducted in the United States.The most common age groups of participants were between 3 and 19 years.The predominant strategies used in these interventions included mass media campaigns, such as television and radio advertisements, as well as printed articles in magazines and newspapers. Conclusion:The review demonstrates that social marketing interventions are effective in promoting health and healthy eating behaviors.This research provides important insights for practitioners and policymakers, indicating potential future research directions in the field.

School deviants were compared to school leaders with respect to school attitudes and three types of achievement: reading, writing, and mathematics. Findings supported the notion that those who conform best to the non-academic or behavioral expectations of the school do appreciably better academically than do those who deviate. The two groups were observed to differ with respect to school attitudes. The strength of the relationship was observed to shift when occupational status controls were introduced. “Blue-collar” deviants were found to be less hostile towards the school than their “white-collar” counterparts.

Theotonio Dos Santos (1936–2018): The Revolutionary Intellectual Who Pioneered Dependency Theory

This research aims to find out and to depict the public relations activities in spreading the information of E-Warong program, as well as to discover the obstacles in running the aforementioned public relations activities. A descriptive-qualitative method is used to depict and to describe the examined objects according to the real facts in the field by using interviewees as the source of data. The data is presented using primary and secondary data through in-depth interview, documentation of activities, references related to the research, and data from the internet. The data analysis procedure used is qualitative data with interactive model from Metthew B. Miles and Michael Huberman. The results show that the public relations activities performed by the public relations team of the Ministry of Social Services in spreading the information include the following steps: 1) planning and decision-making in spreading the information of the E-Warong Program; 2) informing and performing the information spreading of E-Warong Program; 3) evaluating the performed information-spreading activity of E-Warong Program. Less appropriate selection of the communication channel for target audiences can be an obstacle faced during the means of information spreading of the E-Warong Program. In the end, the information spreading activity performed by the Ministry of Social Services ran well enough even though there were some flaws in the execution.

This article analyzes an isolated case within the framework of trend of jubilee mania – recent centenary celebration of the Revolution of 1917 in Italy. The author believes that many historical events reappear on the horizon when assigned to play an important role in modern politics. The article describes how the Italians view the Revolution and how it helps to explain modern Russia. The research is carried out within the framework of methodology of public history. Having examined a wide variety of sources (online articles, articles in newspapers and magazines, scientific writings, information on the congresses and conferences, exhibitions, concerts, etc.), the author attempts to demonstrate how the Russian revolutions are reflected in the Italian public opinion. The conclusion is made that the Revolution plays an important role not only in modern Russia, in Italy as well. The latter believe that the Revolution is still present in their culture and politics, correlates with their own path of political history of the XX century, including the powerful Movement for the left that emerged in the country after the World War II. At the same time, Russia did not give due attention to celebration of the centennial anniversary, focusing rather on the victory over Hitler, since this event projects the glory of the Soviet Union onto the modern Russian Federation.
