POTRAYING STUDENTS’ LANGUAGE PROBLEMS IN COMPREHENDING NARRATIVE READING TEXT

Critical thinking ability is an important ability to have. However, students' mathematical critical thinking skills are still low. Efforts that can be applied are through the Metagontive Scaffolding learning approach. The Metcagontive Scaffolding approach has been proven to be able to improve mathematical communication skills, mathematical literacy, and self-efficacy. This study was conducted to test whether Metagontive Scaffolding can improve the mathematical critical thinking skills of junior high school students better than direct learning. This study uses a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent control group design. The population in this study were all eighth grade students in one of the public junior high schools in Bandung. This study uses two classes as a sample from a number of class VIII randomly graded. The data in this study were obtained through the results of the answers to students' mathematical critical thinking abilities. significantly compared to students who participated in direct learning

This study aims to examine the implications of the implementation of the Pengembanagan Keprofesian Berkelanjutan (PKB) policy on teacher career management in junior high schools in Bandung. The implication is seen in Penilaian Kinerja Guru (PKG) planning where the teacher explores her career needs, in the implementation of PKB where the teacher tries her career strategy, and in the evaluation where the teacher reflects on PKB. This study aims to find out how teacher’s to service the students, the role of the teacher in facilitating slow learners in mathematics learning, and other constraints that the slow learners faced. This research was a case study in a junior high school in Bandung. Participants in this study were five students in 8th grade. This research was carried out through observation the learning activities, interviewing the slow learner students, and interviewing mathematics teachers. The one of the result in this study was showed that children who are classified as slow learners were not well facilitated to achieving mathematics learning goals. Slow learners need a longer study time than their peers, so they need special education services. One of alternative solution that can be done by teachers is that teachers should pay special attention such as teacher gives opportunity to slow learners get more time to study the subjects material and do the clinical teaching. The importance of teachers conducting clinical teaching are giving the direction to the slow learner students in the learning process, and helping the students to overcome the difficulties faced by slow learner students.

Integrated curriculum is a popular way to develop 21st-century skills, but most of the materials are written on the books separately. Furthermore, web-based learning is an online learning media that can be accessed using an internet connection anytime and anywhere. However, many educational websites do not apply the principles of effective learning. Besides, the traditional learning methods tend to be bored for the students. In order to solve this problem, this study designed a website education that uses interactive content to assist students in learning levers in the human body topic as one of the integrated science materials. The process of developing an educational website consists of three steps: (1) analysis, (2) design, (3) construction making. This research method used descriptive method, and the experts' judgment will evaluate it on content, language, and media/IT. The questionnaires used the technology acceptance model (TAM) and five-dimensional interactivity to investigate the readability of the subjects' perception responses. The research subject was three science teachers and 31 students on private Junior High School in Bandung. According to the result, generally, it has a good evaluation of each aspect. But, the website education needs a strong signal to access for not taking load time consumer.

The study was conducted with the aim to find out how the application of the method of making a match based on word provocation to improve the ability to write Arabic in students. This research is a quasi-experimental study with research subjects of VIII grade students of Miftahul Junior High School in Bandung. Data obtained by conducting tests, observations, and interviews with instruments in the form of essay test questions, observation guidelines, and interview guidelines. The collected data were analyzed using quantitative data analysis. The results of this study indicate that 1) at this stage the learning process using the make a match method begins with the presentation of Arabic text contained in the material. 2) improvement in learning outcomes of writing skills through the application of the make a match method can be seen in students' writing ability to increase. 3) student learning outcomes using the make a match method have increased with an average value of 86 with the number of students who have completed learning as much as 95%.

Mathematics is a science that can not be separated from other science as well as in everyday life. The ability of mathematical Connection aims to connect the mathematics with other disciplines and also daily life so that math can be more meaningful. This study aims to determine the ability of mathematical connections of junior high school students VIII class in one of junior high school in Bandung on Comparable material reviewed through gender. Subject consists of 35 students. In addition, the discussion on the mathematical connection ability for junior high school students from the difference of gender, between students and students in terms of ability penyimannya. The understanding of the mathematical connection capability rests on the concept of socio-cultural construction that there is a difference between men and women, resulting in their respective roles and duties. While based on the results of his research states that the difference of ability between male and female students and the results showed that the mathematical connection ability of female students is much better that is with an average of 3.71 from the students 3.59. In addition to gender factors are also found other factors that can affect the achievement of the ability of the connection of the readiness of students and teachers to learn, basic skills of students and basic knowledge of mathematical concepts

The Purpose of this study was determine the effect of Autonomy training on student of “X” junior high school in Bandung. The Sample of this study was 20 students who were classified as having low student engagement degrees were choosen used purposive sampling method. The Student Engagement instrument (SEI) adapted from theory J. Appleton, S. Christenson, D. Kim, dan A. Reschly (2017)is self-repot measure of cognitive and affective. Criterion Validity of this Instrument is 0.302- 0.877 and reliability is 0.747. Behavioral Engagement instrument adapted from theory J. Appleton, S. Christenson, D. Kim, dan A. Reschly (2017), with criterion validity is 0.317- 0.605 only for this research. The result showed there was an increase in the level of student engagement before and after training, statistical test show Asymp Sig <0.05 (N=-3.923) indicates the Hi is accepted, there is a difference in student engagement through autonomy training on student. The suggestion of this research is that student are expected to able to apply this training activity to daily life such as the method of making plans, goal and effort before the beginning of the school semester, So that they can be regular to make targets by themeselves and achieve them.

This study aims to describe the development of learning log for junior high school students on global warming with demonstration based on Predict-Observe-Explain (POE). The development process started with the preparation of learning log, test trial to obtain the data to be repaired, and obtained learning log tools better. The method used was the descriptive method. Two classes in one of junior high school in Bandung were selected by cluster random sampling. Data collected through the assignment of learning log, field notes through observation and interviews. The instruments were examined in this study is learning log’ task and rubric. While research instruments consisted of student’s and teacher’s interviews guides, field notes, and rubric for assessment authentic’s effectiveness. The trial showed that questions in task still need to be improved in terms of the sentence and the editorial content, rubrics for learning log developed based on the responses of the students. Meanwhile, the effectiveness of authentic assessment test phase is (45%) quite good. The results of the application authentic assessment can measure students' POE. Questions on the task and the rubric developed well. The effectiveness of authentic assessment in application phase is (85%) very good. The response of students and teacher about authentic assessment developed positively.

Mathematics educators commonly believe that an open-ended approach could facilitate students to build their creative thinking ability and its disposition, especially in geometry. This research belongs to a quasi-experiment that used a non-equivalent control group design. The purpose of this research was to analyze the correlation between creative thinking ability and creative thinking disposition through an open-ended learning approach toward area and volume of flat geometrical objects problems. Two classes are selected as the sample, they are the control group and experiment group. The open-ended approach was used in the experiment group then direct instruction in the control group. The population is all of the eighth-grade students at one of the junior high school in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. This study used to test and non-test as the research instruments. The test instrument was a creative thinking ability test while the non-test instrument was a questionnaire. These instruments were given after the learning process then analyzed by using Bivariate Correlation through SPSS. According to the analysis results, the finding is: the correlation coefficient between creative thinking ability and creative thinking disposition is at the middle level. The conclusion is there is a significant correlation between students’ creative thinking ability and students’ creative thinking disposition.

In contemporary international secondary education in Indonesia, English-Medium Instruction (EMI) has gained popularity and expanded into a rising global phenomenon. Recognizing this phenomenon and the importance of English language skills for students from an early age, this study aims to investigate the perceptions of junior high school students in bilingual classes on the use of EMI in schools. A qualitative research design in the form of a case study was adopted in this study. It involved thirteen (13) junior high school students (2 males, 11 females) of two bilingual class programs at a private junior high school in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. Data were collected through questionnaires, semi-structured interviews, and an FGD (forum group discussion) session. The findings indicate that all participants show positive perceptions of the EMI implementation in terms of the importance of EMI for Learning, the importance of EMI for career, and the use of EMI associated with the preservation of tradition issue. This study also reveals the obstacles that are often faced in the use of EMI such as a lack of understanding of technical terms in the content course and teachers' low proficiency in English. Therefore, it is expected that this study will offer recommendations from the perspectives of EFL practitioners in order to optimize the advantages of the EMI policy in an EFL context.

The aim of research is developing multiple-choices test items as tools for measuring the scientific of generic skills on solar system. To achieve the aim that the researchers used the ADDIE model consisting Of: Analyzing, Design, Development, Implementation, dan Evaluation, all of this as a method research. While The scientific of generic skills limited research to five indicator including: (1) indirect observation, (2) awareness of the scale, (3) inference logic, (4) a causal relation, and (5) mathematical modeling. The participants are 32 students at one of junior high schools in Bandung. The result shown that multiple-choices that are constructed test items have been declared valid by the expert validator, and after the tests show that the matter of developing multiple-choices test items be able to measuring the scientific of generic skills on solar system.

In order to survive and improve self quality in higher levels of education and work, generic science skills are needed. Generic science skill is the skill that can be grown from science learning as a provision to pursue careers in a broader field. In this day and age, many things can be done by using devices, including physics learning. This study aims to find out the differences of generic science skills improvement between a class that apply solar system learning with a scientific approach assisted by Solar System Scope with a class that do not use Solar System Scope. The method used in this study was quasi-experiment with the control group pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of 31 experimental class students and 31 control class students in the junior high school in Bandung. Both classes were given the multiple choice test. The results of data analysis showed an improvement in both classes with N-gain 45.9% in the experimental class and 22.8% in the control class. The conclusion of this study can be showed by Mann Whitney hypothesis test which produces z = -3.60. It shows that there is a significant differences of generic science skills improvement between both classes after the implementation of solar system learning assisted by Solar System Scope.

This article discusses the application of social learning theory which aims to determine the application of the social concept of the Albert Bandura theory at Al-Wafa Ciwidey Junior High School in Bandung, the supporting factors for the application of the Albert Bandura social learning theory at Al-Wafa Ciwidey Middle School Bandung, the inhibiting factors for the application of Albert Bandura social learning theory at SMP Al-Wafa Ciwidey Bandung. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive with a phenomonological approach. Retrieval of data through the method of observation, interviews. The data source is the teacher of Islamic religious education subjects. After that, it is analyzed by drawing conclusions. The results of this study, the application of social learning theory with the concept of modeling principles in Islamic religious education learning at Al-Wafa Middle School have been applied to aspects of attention, retention, production, and motivation. And the supporting factor in the application of social learning theory is the ability of teachers which includes pedagogic, professional, personal and social skills in guiding, directing and encouraging students to be active during the learning process as well as interesting learning media. While the inhibiting factor is the low motivation of students to learn and less varied learning media. The impact of the application of social learning theory at SMP Al-Wafa Ciwidey Bandung is that students become more ready to learn because at the initial stage the attention stage has been carried out. Then finally students become more motivated because of the reward and punishment system and usually students will be more motivated when learning is packaged in activities such as games.

This study aims to identify teacher-students perception towards common representation in chemical-science learning and conceptual understanding on additive and addictive substances. This is descriptive research. Data were collected through questionnaire, interview, and conception test. Subjects in this study were 8th grades student in one of Junior High School in Bandung. The results of the study show that representations most often used by the teacher are verbal and pictorial representations. The teacher's view is that pictorial representation is the easiest form of representation to understand by students. However, it is students view that verbal representation is easiest to be understood. The difficulties faced by students in learning science include memorizing a mathematical equation in physics-science, latin name in biology-science, difficulty understanding and disliking science lessons. The average understanding of students' concepts in the latest subject matter, additives and addictive substances, consisted of 21.4% understanding concepts, 33.7% misconceptions and 44.9% did not understand concepts.

Mathematical abstraction is a cognitive process when students construct their mathematics knowledge and the result of the process itself. This study explores the mathematical abstraction of students related to the concept and the area of triangles. For this reason, firstly, the researchers developed four questions. This study was conducted in one junior high school in Bandung. Twenty-three students, grade 7 (12-14 years old), were involved in this study. Data were collected through observation of the test results and followed by students interviews. Finally, data were analyzed qualitatively. The researchers found that the low-achievement students tend to understand the triangles which consist of the interior area bounded by three straight lines and the lines themselves; they also tend to understand the area of triangles as the result of the pattern of a base times height divided into two. Besides, there are indications that low-achievement students need help from teachers so that they can achieve a higher level of abstraction.
