Practices of Constructing Green Environment on Campus

Under the backdrop of the rapid development of globalization, knowledge, and informatization, more and more students are entering universities. With the dynamic change of university education methods, environmental factors and design, the standard of students choosing university is not only academic level and teacher education level, but also campus landscape environment is an important part of evaluation. Stairs are an important design element of the landscape environment and provide connecting media to spaces with higher order on the campus to meet traffic vertical functions while providing vitality to the campus landscape space. The purpose of this study was to analyze the influence of stair design on student emotion and satisfaction around the most representative stair design of university campus landscape, focusing on four evaluation attributes (complexity, coherence, mystery, and legibility) of landscape preference theory. Taking students in China and South Korea who are experiencing college life as the survey objects, 12 representative campus stair design cases at home and abroad were selected for questionnaire survey, and 303 valid questionnaires were finally collected. Regression analysis was performed using SPSS 21.0 and AMOS 24.0 statistical tools, and the results are as follows. (1) It was found that the complexity, mystery and legibility of the university campus stairs design had a significant effect on students' emotions. (2) It was found that the coherence of the university campus stairs design did not significantly affect students' emotions. (3) It was found that Students' Emotions had a significant effec on Satisfaction. The results of this study can provide data and theoretical support to the stair design of the university campus, increase students' pleasant emotions, and increase students' satisfaction, ultimately creating an efficient and healthy university campus landscape atmosphere.

Hawthorne revisited: Organizational implications of the physical work environment

The aim of this article is to test and apply the developed methodology of research on the correlation between the physical learning environment and education, analysing Vilnius Geroji Viltis Progymnasium. The article analyses functional-spatial structure and usability of the selected school (applying the principles of post occupancy evaluation (POE), and analyses the school culture and the needs of school community groups, which are compared with modern Lithuanian educational goals and objectives. The functional-spatial structure of the analysed school is compared with the general school model of the 21st century formed in the author’s previous research, which distinguishes 7 features of the physical learning environment that define the quality of the modern learning environment. It also examines the extent to which the current physical school environment satisfies and meets the school culture and community needs. The article provides guidelines for the implementation of the harmony of school culture (values and needs) and its physical environment, which allows each school to self-assess the physical learning environment and its cultural and 21st century school physical environment characteristics and assumptions and opportunities to meet them.

Over the last century, increasing human populations and conversion of grassland to agriculture have had severe consequences for numbers of Greater Prairie-Chicken (Tympanuchus cupido). Understanding Greater Prairie-Chicken response to human disturbance, including the effects of anthropogenic noise and landscape modification, is vital for conserving remaining populations because these disturbances are becoming more common in grassland systems. Here, we evaluate the effect of low-frequency noise emitted from a wind energy facility on habitat selection. We used the Normalized Difference Soundscape Index, a ratio of human-generated and biological acoustic components, to determine the impact of the dominant acoustic characteristics of habitat relative to physical landscape features known to influence within–home range habitat selection. Female Greater Prairie-Chickens avoided wooded areas and row crops but showed no selection or avoidance of wind turbines based on the availability of these features across their home range. Although the acoustic environment near the wind energy facility was dominated by anthropogenic noise, our results show that acoustic habitat selection is not evident for this species. In contrast, our work highlights the need to reduce the presence of trees, which have been historically absent from the region, as well as decrease the conversion of grassland to row-crop agriculture. Our findings suggest physical landscape changes surpass altered acoustic environments in mediating Greater Prairie-Chicken habitat selection.

Põe em análise o trabalho docente em Administração, a partir da discussão sobre os modos de ser e fazer que são engendrados no cotidiano desses professores, colocando em problematização seu trabalho e suas práticas. A discussão fundamenta-se em dados secundários e nas experiências pedagógicas dos pesquisadores. Apresentam-se algumas observações sobre o valor do trabalho e sua relevância nas dramáticas do uso de si dos trabalhadores em geral. Em seguida, são discutidos aspectos sobre o trabalho e suas implicações na profissão docente e as práticas pedagógicas desenvolvidas por docentes que rompem com práticas profissionais hegemônicas na área. Desse modo, percebe-se que profissionais da área estão vivenciando outras maneiras de produzir uma aula e de avaliar seus alunos, produzindo práticas que podem levar a outras posturas e modos de se colocar no mundo como profissionais do ensino.

BackgroundAs many children do not meet the recommended daily physical activity (PA) levels, more research is needed towards environmental determinants of children’s PA levels. The aims of this longitudinal study were to investigate whether the physical environment and parenting practices have an impact on changes in children’s weekday time spent at various PA levels and whether associations between physical neighbourhood environment and changes in children’s PA are moderated by parenting practices.MethodsWe performed a secondary data analysis of longitudinal data collected at three timepoints (baseline, 6, and 18 months) from 10 control schools of the Active Living study, a quasi-experimental study, which took place in South Limburg, the Netherlands. In total, 240 children aged 8–12 years were included in the analyses. PA levels were measured using accelerometry (ActiGraph GT3X+). The physical environment was assessed at baseline through neighbourhood audits of the school environment, and PA parenting practices were measured at baseline via validated parental questionnaires. Multivariate multilevel regression analyses were conducted to determine the main effects of the physical environment and parenting practices on changes in children’s time spent in sedentary behaviour (SB), light PA and moderate-to-vigorous PA (MVPA) over 18 months. Additionally, moderation of the association between the physical environment and children’s PA levels by parenting practices was examined by adding interacting terms to the regression equations.ResultsWalkability of the physical environmental was associated with a decrease in SB at 18 months (B = -5.45, p < .05). In addition, the parenting practice logistic support was associated with an increase in MVPA (at all time points, B = .68, B = .73 and B = 1.02, respectively, all p < .05) and a decrease in SB (at 18 months, B = -1.71, p < .05). Stratified analyses (based on significant interaction terms) showed that the effect of specific physical environmental features (e.g., sports facilities) on children’s improvements in PA levels were strengthened by favourable parenting practices.DiscussionBesides the main effects of walkability and logistic support, there were indications that several parenting practices moderate the association between the physical environment and changes in children’s time in various PA levels. The current findings are exploratory, and need to be confirmed in further research.

Purpose: Organized care in specialist stroke units is fundamental for achieving better outcomes for persons with stroke. Although the importance of the physical environment for health and well-being is well recognized, research regarding how environmental features can influence stroke care is limited. The aim was to elucidate healthcare professionals’ experiences of the physical environment in newly built stroke units with respect to stroke care.Methods: Healthcare professionals (n = 42) representing eight professions participated in semi-structured, face-to-face interviews. Qualitative content analysis was used.Results: The physical environment both facilitated and restricted the professionals’ ability to provide stroke care. Five categories were identified: “Working towards patient engagement in single rooms”, “Hampered rehabilitation in an environment not always adapted to patients’ difficulties”, “Addressing patients’ psychosocial needs in the environment”, “Ensuring patient safety by using the environment in accordance with individual needs”, and “Collaboration and task fulfilment—a challenge due to care unit design”.Conclusions: The healthcare professionals viewed the physical environment mainly in relation to stroke patients’ specific needs, and several environmental features were considered poorly adapted to meet these needs. The physical environment is essential to high-quality care; thus, the process of planning and designing stroke units should be based on existing evidence.

Phasic and tonic electrodermal activity in emotional responses to acoustic environments

This review of empirical literature focuses on the design of operating rooms (ORs) by investigating the physical environmental features of ORs associated with patient and staff outcomes. Many ORs built more than 30 years ago remain operational today. However, most are inadequately designed to handle the equipment, processes, and people that a contemporary OR needs to accommodate. However, the evidence base for designing ORs has been sorely lacking, and little guidance exists on how OR design can improve safety and performance outcomes. A literature search was conducted using PubMed and the university's linked databases. The inclusion criteria included peer-reviewed journal articles that reported some aspect of the physical environment of ORs along with outcomes. The study included empirical studies as well as nonempirical best practice papers. This literature review uncovered 211 articles. The main themes that emerged include OR design-related factors, ventilation, temperature and humidity, acoustical environment, lighting, and materials. Some environmental threats to patient safety in the OR include frequent door openings, clutter, poor air quality, surface contamination, and noise. Further, staff performance and satisfaction were impacted by factors such as the OR layout and equipment and furniture ergonomics. This literature review provides an overview of the research organized into design-focused topic areas to support decision-making by architects and designers. This article highlights gaps in the research and identifies areas where best practice and design assumptions need to be evaluated using rigorous design research.

The article examines the features of the legal regulation of remuneration and labor incentives for university teachers at the federal level. The subject of the research, the results of which are presented in this article, are the features of the legal regulation of remuneration and incentives for the work of university teachers at the federal level. The purpose of the study is to consider possible ways to increase wages and incentive payments for university teachers at the federal level. As research methods, the author included methods such as legal analysis of the existing legal regulation of the activities of a university teacher, as well as the method of situational modeling of the legal regulation of the activities of a university teacher. During the study, it was found that, unfortunately, the current Russian legislation at the federal level does not contain effective incentives for university teachers: the salary of a university teacher practically does not depend on the results of his scientific and educational achievements, bonuses for an academic degree and academic title have been removed, there is no budget doctoral studies, and extended paid leave for teachers is often not fully realized due to the need for additional income for teachers. Ways have been proposed to improve the legal regulation of the activities of university teachers, aimed at stimulating the activities of university teachers at the federal level, including the return to Russian legislation of additional payments for an academic degree and academic title in the amount of at least 40% of their salary, the need for regular payment of bonuses for scientific work , the return of budget-funded doctoral studies, and an increase in the salaries of university teachers based on a single salary scale.

Teachers' ideological education is an important content of ideological and political work in colleges and universities, which is the premise and key to running a good socialist university with Chinese characteristics. Among them, young teachers, as the force of the educational cause, are the key concern of the ideological education of college teachers. Entering the new era, the ideological education of teachers in colleges and universities is facing new situations and new tasks, and there are still some problems in the educational concept, institutional mechanism, methods and methods, etc. Therefore, colleges and universities can optimize the working mechanism of ideological education, strengthen the value leadership of ideological education, optimize the service platform and other paths to continuously improve the ideological and political quality of teachers, and then provide strong support for the cultivation of new talents to take on the responsibility for the rejuvenation of the nation.

The article deals with the description and application of new teaching technology "Flipped teaching" or educating "vice versa" ("inverted class"). The question of changes in an educational process, teaching with changed characteristics of students, qualities of teachers, resources and methodology of teaching, which assist of development an educational motivation of students, is considered. The possibilities of granting the students a freedom to choose when, where and in what rhythm to study, sequence and level of complication of the studied material are shown. Correct organization of current teacher`s control after the work of students in individual and group work, that gives an opportunity to have a time for gaining new experience in knowledge acquisition in the class and at extracurricular independent work is introduced. The peculiarities of work of teacher and student, which maximize the effectiveness of "FLIP" methodology are touched in the article, the phases of their role exchange are shown, the models of application of the presented technology (in a class and at home) in the educational process are given. The conclusion about the introduction of model "Inverted class" in pedagogical practice of universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and the possibility of the use of social networks and platforms of educational blogs of teachers is drawn.

Purpose. To develop an instrument to represent the availability of needed environmental features (EFs) in the physical, social and attitudinal environment of home, school and community for children with cerebral palsy.Method. Following a literature review and qualitative studies, the European Child Environment Questionnaire (ECEQ) was developed to capture whether EFs needed by children with cerebral palsy were available to them: 24, 24 and 12 items related to the physical, social and attitudinal environments, respectively. The ECEQ was administered to parents of 818 children with cerebral palsy aged 8–12 years, in seven European countries. A domain structure was developed using factor analysis.Results. Parents responded to 98% of items. Seven items were omitted from statistical models as the EFs they referred to were available to most children who needed them; two items were omitted as they did not fit well into plausible domains. The final domains, based on 51 items, were: Transport, Physical – home, Physical – community, Physical – school, Social support – home, Social support – community, Attitudes – family and friends, Attitudes – teachers and therapists, Attitudes – classmates.Conclusion. ECEQ was acceptable to parents and can be used to assess both the access children with cerebral palsy have to the EFs that they need and how available individual EFs are.
