Proxies: A good idea whose time has passed

This research is a part of previous research which succeeded in producing business model architecture planning, the purpose of this research is to develop previous research using business model maturity measurement methods as a proposed business model architecture planning concept. By taking the same case study theme as Tiara Payung Putra (TPP) company. TPP is known as a distributor company in cooperation with Pertamina's (Bulk LPG Filling and Filling Station). TPP's main business activity is to distribute goods in the form of LPG to 76 bases spread across the Balaraja district. The current condition of the business model architecture illustrates the business activities that exist in the TPP. The main problems that occur in the TPP are not integrated the external system with internal business activities in the company, and the lack of IT resource support. For this reason, the Business Process Maturity Model is needed as a benchmark, which can be proposed as a business architecture planning concept. Support for the Enterprise Architecture Planning (EAP) Framework method focuses on the business model architecture domain. The architecture of the business model illustrates how TPP carries out business activities and functions to achieve its objectives. The results of this study produce proposed business model architecture planning concepts in the form of Business Model Maturity Level Measurement, SI / IT architecture concepts, and Business Architecture Planning roadmap, which are beneficial for Tiara Payung Putra (TPP) company for business model architecture planning.

This paper explores cyber security debt, a technical debt arising from unaddressed security vulnerabilities in an organisation's IT systems. These vulnerabilities accumulate due to resource limitations, time constraints, and expertise gaps, potentially leading to security breaches and data compromises. The paper outlines the cyber security debt management process involving identification, prioritisation, and mitigation strategies. Drawing parallels to financial debt, the authors emphasise the escalating risks of delaying cyber security debt repayment. The paper underscores the significance of diligent debt management in maintaining digital resilience and mitigating cyber threats. The increasing interconnectedness of systems and rapid software development has given rise to a hidden challenge known as cyber security debt. Cyber security debt is posed as a subset of technical debt, encompassing the accumulation of security vulnerabilities within an organisation's IT infrastructure and applications. Drawing a parallel between cyber security debt and its financial counterpart, the authors underscore the grave risks of deferring debt repayment. Just as financial debt accrues interest, unresolved security vulnerabilities compound over time, elevating the likelihood of breaches and data exposure. A poignant case study of the Equifax breach exemplifies the real-world consequences of neglecting security debt management. The failure to patch a well-known vulnerability led to a colossal data breach, highlighting the urgency of addressing security weaknesses promptly. Complex in nature, cyber security debt materialises when organisations fail to address vulnerabilities during various operational life cycles. These vulnerabilities might remain concealed within IT architecture, legacy code, or third-party libraries, posing a formidable challenge to detection and resolution. By understanding the parallels between financial and cyber security debt and proactively managing the latter, organisations can enhance their ability to safeguard against evolving cyber threats and maintain a robust security posture.

Over the years, organizational training plays an important role in human resource management in firms and organizations. With the rapidly changing technology and the increasing business demands, organizations especially IT departments have been investing greatly in web-based training. However, a successful web-based training system depends not only on the willingness from management, but also on IT infrastructure and employee acceptance, which is determined by many factors such as the degree of courseware customization and the level of collaboration. In this study, propositions on the critical success factors of a web-based training system were raised and verified in a case-study involving two web-based courses in a large corporate IT department. The case study method is used to contrast between two modules, and demonstrate the critical success factors for the web-based IT training in a corporate environment. Four factors were identified including management involvement and support, courseware customization, level of collaboration and effective and consistent IT infrastructure. The insights gained and lessons learnt from this case study may hold valuable implications for both research and practice.

Modern day enterprises need to be continuously the move to deal with the many challenges and opportunities that confront them. The resulting changes can take shape as top-down and premeditated efforts, but are more likely to also take the form of numerous small changes that emerge bottom-up in a seemingly spontaneous fashion. Additionally, fixed organizational structures are being replaced by more dynamic networked enterprises, also blurring borderlines between existing enterprises within the same value web/chain. We argue that the change processes of modern day enterprises are a key business process, next to the regular business processes involved in the operational activities. We therefore suggest to refer to the change processes as second order business processes, as they essentially change the regular first order business processes and their supportive structures. Second order business processes need the supported of information systems that capture, manipulate and disseminate information concerning different structural aspects e.g. from value propositions, via business processes and supporting applications, to the underlying IT infrastructures of a networked enterprise and its environment. We refer to such information systems as second order information systems. In this position paper, we specifically zoom in on the need for interoperation of such second order information systems within networked enterprises that are the move. This is what we will refer to as second-order interoperation.

Learning computer science is no longer simply a matter of learning computer programming. Indeed, modern day computing jobs demand design, communication and collaborative skills as well. In order to address this need and make computing education more engaging, motivating, and community-oriented, we have been exploring a ldquostudio basedrdquo approach in which students (a) construct computational solutions to problems that have many possible solution strategies, and then (b) present their solutions to their peers and instructors for feedback and discussion. In the fall of 2007, we implemented this approach in a pre-CS1course by requiring students to present their solutions to five course programming projects in face-to-face review sessions. Interview and observational data collected in this course pointed out several practical and logistical problems surrounding the face-to-face review sessions that diminished their educational effectiveness. To address these problems, we describe the preliminary design of a novel asynchronous Web-based project review system to support and augment face-to-face studio-based review sessions.

Personnel data management in the military is a crucial aspect in supporting the operational effectiveness of units. This study aims to design and implement a web-based Personnel Information System (Sisfopers) at Kogartap II/Bandung to make data management more efficient, secure, and integrated with the existing military IT infrastructure. The research method employed is developmental research (R&D) with a qualitative-descriptive approach, supplemented by data collection through literature review, observation, interviews, and documentation. The system is developed using the SDLC (Waterfall) model and UML to model functional requirements and process flows. The results indicate that the developed Sisfopers can accelerate administrative processes, maintain the security and integrity of personnel data, and support data-driven decision-making by the leadership. This study is expected to serve as a reference for the development of personnel information systems in other military environments

The rapidly-evolving nature of information technology is both a challenge and an opportunity for non-profit organisations, as they seek to apply digital solutions to their administrative processes, as it does for organization XYZ Church in East Java. As the XYZ Synod of East Java is developing a more and more networked local church, managing congregation data has never been so sophisticated. Because the systems are not integrated, church data is often managed in a fragmented manner, making it difficult to track congregation data, use church activities intelligence, and provide adequate pastoral services. This research has the purpose to create a church information system in a web-based environment so that it can solve these problems, manage centralized but flexible in gathering the congregations data in a web-based, and can access in different churches. It proposes a cloud-based system that will be cost-effective, ensuring scalability, security and removing the need for expensive IT infrastructure while still ensuring data is available and protected. Additionally, the system architecture is based on Soft Systems Methodology (SSM) to ensure a detailed analysis of stakeholder needs and organizational complexities occurring in the church ecosystem. SSM, in conjunction with problem structuring methods, also means we can identify not only the primary challenges and stakeholder perspectives among the members of Church XYZ, but also explore the core system functionalities to ensure the solution fits the operational and pastoral needs of Church XYZ as it seeks to engage East Java. It is hoped that the thorough model formulated will significantly improve administrative effectiveness, increase data accuracy, refine pastoral care methodology and safeguard privacy of ministry while allowing efficient integration between local churches. This study combines contemporary solution of digital transformation with structured methodological analysis to appropriately support the digital transformation of church management while maintaining the core values and mission of Church XYZ in East Java.

A graduation project is a form or work that the study authority requests from the student to measure what he made during the study. Designed an expert system for students’ graduation projects at the University of Basrah for students who are obligated to submit a project that qualifies them to graduate from the university. The system works according to a set of requirements, the most important is first: The student's possession of a high rate that qualifies him for the project. Second: he must possess half of the skills required for the project provided that it includes at least one programming language example (c ++, java, PHP, c #, etc ...). The system has many features that help the Supervisors and Students Committee to manage students' projects efficiently. System is built as a web-based system, with access limited only to the university's local network.

Mobile robots, in modern technology, demand a more robust localization in a complex environment. Currently, the most commonly used 2D LiDAR localization system for mobile robots requires maps that are constructed by 2D SLAM. Such systems do not cope well with dynamic environments and also have high deployment costs when moving robots to a new environment setting as they require the reconstruction of a map for each new place. In modern days, a floor plan is indispensable for an indoor environment. It typically represents essential structures such as walls, corners, pillars, etc. for humans to navigate in the environment. This information turns out to be crucial for robot localization. In this paper, we propose an approach for 2D LiDAR localization in an architectural floor plan. We use partial simultaneous localization and mapping (PSLAM) algorithm to generate a map while we concurrently aligned it to the floor plan using Monte Carlo Localization (MCL) method. Real-world experiments have been conducted with our proposed method which results in robust robot localization, the algorithm is even evaluated on a large discrepancies floor plan (discrepancies between the floor plan and real-world). Our algorithm demonstrates that its capabilities of localizing in real-time applications.

IT infrastructures in global corporations are appropriately compared with nervous systems, in which body parts (interconnected datacenters) exchange signals (request responses) in order to coordinate actions (data visualization and manipulation). A priori inoffensive perturbations in the operation of the system or the elements composing the infrastructure can lead to catastrophic consequences. Downtime disables the capability of clients reaching the latest versions of the data and/or propagating their individual contributions to other clients, potentially costing millions of dollars to the organization affected. The imperative need of guaranteeing the proper functioning of the system not only forces to pay particular attention to network outages, hot-objects or application defects, but also slows down the deployment of new capabilities, features and equipment upgrades. Under these circumstances, decision cycles for these modifications can be extremely conservative, and be prolonged for years, involving multiple authorities across departments of the organization. Frequently, the solutions adopted are years behind state-of-the art technologies or phased out compared to leading research on the IT infrastructure field. In this paper, the utilization of a large-scale data infrastructure simulator is proposed, in order to evaluate the impact of " what if" scenarios on the performance, availability and reliability of the system. The goal is to provide data center operators a tool that allows understanding and predicting the consequences of the deployment of new network topologies, hardware configurations or software applications in a global data infrastructure, without affecting the service. The simulator was constructed using a multi-layered approach, providing a granularity down to the individual server component and client action, and was validated against a downscaled version of the data infrastructure of a Fortune 500 company.
