Quality Rules Optimization for Manufacturing Process Based on Rough Theory

Remanufacturing as well as quality improving innovations are important activities to improve sustainability. However, when coexisting in one company, their interaction is not clear. On the one hand, past research found a positive impact of remanufacturing on product quality. On the other hand, remanufacturing was shown to be negatively affected by an industry’s technology trajectory of quality improvements.Using a stylized model of endogenous product quality improvement and remanufacturing we find that the main driver of the contradicting results is the change in manufacturing costs caused by improving product quality. A strong increase in manufacturing costs due to product quality improvement may induce the firm to take up remanufacturing when introducing the new product. Conversely, a small impact of product quality improvement on manufacturing costs reverses this effect and may indeed lead the firm to cease remanufacturing when introducing the new product. We find that the latter outcome is never beneficial from an environmental point of view, while the former always is. With endogenous product quality improving innovation we then characterize conditions where a remanufacturing manufacturer would take a different product quality improvement decision than a non-remanufacturing manufacturer. We observe that remanufacturing stifles (stimulates) product quality improvement when manufacturing cost of quality improved products are low (high). Neither of the two results are exclusively beneficial or detrimental from an environmental perspective and we characterize the conditions under which product quality improvement is preferable.

Root-cause identification for quality and productivity related problems are key issues for manufacturing processes. It has been a very challenging engineering problem particularly in a multistage manufacturing, where maximum number of processes and activities are performed. However, it may also be implemented with ease in each and every individual set up and activities in any manufacturing process. In this paper, root-cause identification methodology has been adopted to eliminate the dimensional defects in cutting operation in CNC oxy flame cutting machine and a rejection has been reduced from 11.87% to 1.92% on an average. A detailed experimental study has illustrated the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

Industry 4.0 enabling technologies have been integrated into manufacturing systems. One of these technologies, the collaborative robot or cobot, holds significant expansion potential due to its shared application with humans in manufacturing environments. It offers cost reduction, a safer working environment, especially regarding ergonomic risks, and product quality improvements. This research aimed to assess the economic and social benefits, focusing on the reduction of ergonomic risks and quality gains resulting from the implementation of cobots in the engine assembly process. A case study was conducted in an engine assembly company, involving process observation, data collection, analysis of technical reports, and interviews with managers. The results indicated that integrating cobots into the manufacturing process is advantageous for the industry. There was a significant reduction in annual operating costs, totalling $41,602.56, leading to a return on investment in 1 year and 9 months. Furthermore, ensuring torque in the correct sequence resulted in product quality improvement, reduced ergonomic risks, and a safer working environment for operators. This research contributes to advancing knowledge on the economic, social, and quality advantages of cobot application in the engine assembly process.

15 - Quality improvement and fermentation control in meat products

The variation and uncertainty existed in every process and considered as an essential element in precise, accurate and high-quality manufacturing, especially in the Industry 4.0 era. Manufacturing quality and reliability is affected by variations and uncertainties in different process parameters and influencing factors. The variations and uncertainties are considered very critical in measurement and monitoring process, i.e., prediction or prognostics. These variations and subsequent uncertainties are needed to be identified, quantified, analyzed and controlled. This paper presents an approach to uncertainty measurement and analysis in manufacturing. The key characteristic parameter is identified which is critical for final product quality and reliability. To determine the uncertainty in the specific parameter, the uncertainty factors of both the manufacturing process and measurement process are determined. The combined uncertainty is determined by considering the influencing factors both in manufacturing and measurement process. The relation of each factor to the key parameter is analyzed and the sensitivity coefficient is determined mathematically or experimentally. The combined and expanded uncertainty is determined considering all related factors. The proposed approach has been applied to an additive manufacturing technique, and useful results are achieved.

The influence of globalization in today's industry has increased the level of competition between companies, making it increasingly tight and competitive. A company's success is often measured by the quality of the products it produces. Total Quality Management (TQM) is a continuous process that aims to achieve better quality standards in meeting customer needs.This study aims to determine the implementation of TQM, product quality, and to determine the improvement of product quality at Conneight Studio in Malang City. The method used is descriptive analysis.Based on the results of the study, the implementation of TQM requires commitment from all members of the organization. In the printing sector, all employees must be involved in efforts to improve product quality. Training, developing a quality culture, and active participation of the entire team are the keys to creating an environment that supports continuous improvement in product quality. TQM enables printing companies to achieve significant improvements in product quality. Data-based performance measurement is an important aspect of TQM. By collecting and analyzing data on product quality, companies can identify problems, monitor progress, and implement appropriate corrective actions. Effective use of data helps companies make decisions based on facts and evidence and guides continuous improvement efforts.

Syntactic foam is a solid insulation material, featuring a foam-like structure. It's a composition of hollow microspheres and a polymeric matrix material. In this study it consists of glass microspheres and an epoxy resin matrix. The present paper deals with the influence of modified inner interfaces (achieved by silane-coated glass microspheres in order to improve the adhesion quality between the glass microspheres and the epoxy resin matrix) on the electrical properties of the material. The experiments show that the silane-coating (also known as silanization) has a positive influence on the breakdown field strength under electrical ac and dc short term stress. The experiments are conducted for different degrees of filling of the glass microspheres (10 vol.% ... 50 vol.%). It is shown, that the influence of the silanization becomes more significant with higher degree of filling. The life time of the material under electrical ac as well as dc stress can also be improved by a silanization. The dielectric properties (loss factor and relative permittivity) are not influenced by a silanization. Measurements of the viscosity of syntactic foam verify that a silanization reduces the viscosity of the uncured, liquid material during the manufacturing process. Hereby, an improvement of the material's production quality can be achieved at high microspheres' filling degrees.

Adoption of magnetic levitation techniques for production lines of steel plates has many advantages such as simplification of machining processes and improvement in quality of products. However conventional levitation procedures have not solved the problem for thin steel plates of sideslipping caused by gravitational force. In this paper, the following idea is proposed in order to avoid sideslip: the gap length command between the steel plate and the electromagnet is corrected so as to levitate the plate horizontally. Various experiments are performed under the proposed control, in order to confirm the validity.

Fermented feed, as a novel type of functional feed, enhances the nutritional value and palatability of feed through microbial fermentation. It effectively mitigates issues such as impaired digestive function, compromised immune response in aquaculture animals, and the over-reliance on fishmeal-based diets. This paper provides a narrative review of the fermented feed, its benefits, its common types, and the factors influencing its efficacy. Furthermore, it summarizes its beneficial effects in aquaculture animals, including growth promotion, immune enhancement, optimization of intestinal microbiota, and improvement in product quality. Despite its considerable potential to reduce costs and improve efficiency, fermented feed faces challenges such as limited industrial-scale production and little research on crustaceans. Future research should focus on database development, intelligent manufacturing processes, and comprehensive economic evaluations to facilitate its broader application in aquaculture.

Good quality and lower manufacturing cost are the two main factors for the enterprises to increase their core competitiveness.In order to reduce the manufacturing cost and promote the quality of product, we propose a quality improvement (QI) method based on product quality gene evolution for the building materials equipment. First, we present the product quality improvement connotation based on quality gene. Second, the product quality gene evolution method based on genetic algorithm is adopted to achieve the product quality improvement. Finally, we use the tube mill cylinder as an example to illustrate the proposed algorithm process. Experimental results have shown that the proposed approach is able to support quality improvement

Gnocchi is a type of homemade pasta made from potatoes, flour and eggs. Improving food product quality in terms of nutrition in gnocchi products it is possible now also use food waste. In addition to improvement of food product quality and human health, the addition of dragon fruit peel, which is considered as waste, can provide reasonable solutions or ideas about recycling of food waste. In this study, the produced food product was gnocchi with addition of by-product — dragon fruit peel, which was tested for fiber content and content of the following minerals: iron, potassium, calcium. The data obtained were then analyzed statistically by the SPSS program to determine the effect of variation using the T-test. Based on the results of the study it was concluded that the content of dietary fiber of dragon fruit peel in the sample of gnocchi denoted as F3 featured the highest water-soluble dietary fiber content with a score of 1.33%, water insoluble dietary fiber content with a score of 1.86%. and total dietary fiber content with a score of 3.19%. This also shows that the more dragon fruit peel is added, the higher is the total dietary fiber content in gnocchi with addition of dragon fruit peel. This high dietary fiber will be beneficial to humans, especially good for the digestive system. Meanwhile, the mineral content of gnocchi with dragon fruit peel also showed that the F3 sample had the highest mineral content, in particular — iron (Fe) in amount of 1.886 mg/100 g, potassium (K) 6.179 mg/100 g, and calcium (Ca) in amount of 25.339 mg/100 g. This also shows that the addition of dragon fruit peel is useful for improvement of human health and the quality of food product, i. e. gnocchi by increasing the total content of dietary fiber and improving the mineral composition of gnocchi due to addition of dragon fruit peel.

This paper is intended to demonstrate that in the lining of railroad tank cars the use of sponge detectors in search of pinholes has become so excessive that it is now obsessive. This obsession has resulted in greatly increased cost. It has provided little or no improvement in quality of product shipped. It has not increased the length of performance. Conversely, the search for pinholes, the resultant repair and retesting in many situations has resulted in a decrease in service life.

This study explores the effects of consumer knowledge on respondents' evaluations of both known and unknown brands that include either a 2-year or a 20-year warranty. Both experts and nonexperts evaluated warranty as more important than brand name in their product quality decision. Warranty length was positively correlated with product quality perceptions for both known and unknown brands. With the unknown brand, nonexperts perceived significant improvement in product quality when the warranty length was increased from 2 to 20 years. For the known brand, nonexperts perceived little difference in quality for the two warranty lengths. Experts indicated no significant differences in perceived quality, given the four brand/warranty-length conditions. The results indicate that warranty length is most heavily weighted as a cue to product quality when consumers are not highly knowledgeable, and the brand name is not well known. © 1996 John Wiley & Sons, Inc.

One of the main challenges faced by any manufacturing company is controlling the quality of its products. The complexity of the issue intensifies when quality variables are not only quantitative but also qualitative, which means that decisions related to product quality largely depend on subjective assessments made by experts. This research designed a decision-making control chart for a multidisciplinary quality control system in a tannery company, with the goal of improving product quality in the “Wet Sole” area. The main quality issues were associated with qualitative variables and the lack of standardization in the criteria for making quality-related decisions, which increased dissatisfaction with the final product. The problem was addressed with the support of experts, who mapped the “Wet Sole” area process to identify subprocesses and the quantitative and qualitative variables associated with product quality. Then, through the Analytic Hierarchy Process, operating–quality–decision intervals were defined, which enabled the construction of “decision-making control charts.” These charts became part of the new quality control system. The system was validated by experts, confirming its accuracy and effectiveness in decision-making. Once implemented, the evaluation criteria for quality were standardized within the process, resulting in a significant improvement in product quality.
