Abstract

Theories of generation of acoustic and magnetohydrodynamic waves are briefly reviewed with a special emphasis on their applicability to stellar convection zones. Recent developments in these theories and possible directions for future studies are discussed. A new approach allowing to extend the Lighthill-Proudman theory of sound generation to a non-isothermal medium is also presented.
