Reliability Estimation in Inverse Pareto Distribution Using Progressively First Failure Censored Data

Progressively first failure censored (PFFC) data plays a pivotal role in reliability theory and life-testing experiments due to its ability to provide comprehensive insights into the reliability of systems and components. This approach facilitates more accurate estimation of reliability metrics and provides valuable insights into the performance and longevity of systems in life-testing experiments. In this article, we explore both classical and Bayesian approaches to estimate the model parameter and reliability characteristics of the xgamma distribution utilizing data from the PFFC dataset. In classical estimation, we analyze maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) and derive asymptotic confidence intervals (ACIs). Within the Bayesian framework, we evaluate Bayes estimators using both non-informative and gamma informative priors, employing the squared error loss function (SELF) and utilizing Lindley approximation alongside the Metropolis-Hasting (M-H) algorithm. Furthermore, we construct highest probability density (HPD) intervals using the M-H algorithm. To assess the effectiveness of each estimation method, we conduct numerical computations through a simulation study. Lastly, we analyze a real dataset to demonstrate the practical utility of the xgamma distribution within a censoring framework.

This paper discusses some additional distributional characteristics of inverse Lomax distribution and proposes the classical and Bayesian estimation procedures of the survival characteristics. The observed sample information is progressively type-II censored with fixed removal. In classical estimation method, maximum likelihood estimators for the parameters are obtained and then using invariance property, maximum likelihood estimators of the considered survival characteristics are computed. The Bayesian aspect has been discussed with gamma prior under generalized asymmetric loss function. Further, different interval estimations such as asymptotic confidence interval, bootstrap confidence interval and the Bayes credible interval have also been constructed. The Monte Carlo simulation has been carried out to compare the point and interval estimates of the considered survival characteristics. The comparisons are made in terms of average mean squared error and corresponding widths of the intervals. To show the practical applicability of the proposed study, two data sets pertaining to cancer patients have been reanalyzed.

The analysis of lifetime data under censoring schemes plays a vital role in reliability studies and survival analysis, where complete information is often difficult to obtain. This work focuses on the estimation of the parameters of the recently proposed generalized Kavya–Manoharan exponential (GKME) distribution under progressive Type-I interval censoring, a censoring scheme that frequently arises in medical and industrial life-testing experiments. Estimation procedures are developed under both classical and Bayesian paradigms, providing a comprehensive framework for inference. In the Bayesian setting, parameter estimation is carried out using Markov Chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) techniques under two distinct loss functions: the squared error loss function (SELF) and the general entropy loss function (GELF). For interval estimation, asymptotic confidence intervals as well as highest posterior density (HPD) credible intervals are constructed. The performance of the proposed estimators is systematically evaluated through a Monte Carlo simulation study in terms of mean squared error (MSE) and the average lengths of the interval estimates. The practical usefulness of the developed methodology is further demonstrated through the analysis of a real dataset on survival times of guinea pigs exposed to virulent tubercle bacilli. The findings indicate that the proposed methods provide flexible and efficient tools for analyzing progressively interval-censored lifetime data.

In this article, we considered the problem of estimation for the parameters and reliability characteristics of Marshall-Olkin Extended exponential distribution (MOEED) using hybrid Type-II censored data. For estimation, the maximum likelihood estimators (MLE’s) andBayes estimators are constructed. In Bayesian paradigm, Markov Chain Monte Carlo method has been used to compute the Bayes estimates. The 95% asymptotic confidence intervals and highest posterior density intervals for the parameters are also obtained. A comparative study between maximum likelihood estimators and Bayes estimators has been performed using simulation technique. Lastly, a real data set is also analysed for illustration.

ABSTRACTIn this article, we consider the multiple step stress model based on the cumulative exposure model assumption. Here, it is assumed that for a given stress level, the lifetime of the experimental units follows exponential distribution and the expected lifetime decreases as the stress level increases. We mainly focus on the order restricted inference of the unknown parameters of the lifetime distributions. First we consider the order restricted maximum likelihood estimators (MLEs) of the model parameters. It is well known that the order restricted MLEs cannot be obtained in explicit forms. We propose an algorithm that stops in finite number of steps and it provides the MLEs. We further consider the Bayes estimates and the associated credible intervals under the squared error loss function. Due to the absence of explicit form of the Bayes estimates, we propose to use the importance sampling technique to compute Bayes estimates. We provide an extensive simulation study in case of three stress levels mainly to see the performance of the proposed methods. Finally the analysis of one real data set has been provided for illustrative purposes.

This study introduces a robust Bayesian framework for simple-step stress accelerated life testing. For modeling lifetime characteristics, this study adopts the Xgamma distribution as the principal life model. Bayesian parameter estimation is conducted using the Markov Chain Monte Carlo method under three distinct loss functions: the squared error loss function, generalized entropy loss function, and linear exponential loss function. The resulting Bayesian estimators are analyzed and compared with those obtained through the classical maximum likelihood estimation method. Finally, the proposed methods are illustrated with the analysis of two real data sets.

Estimation using hybrid censored data from a two-parameter distribution with bathtub shape

To analyze the performance of various estimators, this paper compares Bayesian and classical estimate approaches across a variety of loss functions. The work focuses on informative versus non-informative priors in Bayesian estimation. The calculations are based on a number of loss functions, including the Square Error Loss Function (SELF), Quadratic Loss Function (QLF), Precautionary Loss Function (PLF), and Entropy Loss Function (ELF). The methodology uses simulation techniques as well as real-world datasets to test the performance and robustness of the proposed estimators. The Bayesian estimators, classical estimators, and related Bayes hazards using empirical analysis and extensive simulations to computed. The findings show that the Minimum Mean Square Error estimator (MiniMSE) is more accurate and reliable than other estimators in a variety of settings. Furthermore, for both types of priors, it is demonstrated that the Bayes risk under the Quadratic Loss Function (QLF) is the lowest among all loss functions considered, including SELF, PLF, and ELF. This suggests that, when compared to other loss functions, QLF is a more effective and balanced criterion for making estimation decisions. The study’s findings provide vital new insights into how to choose the optimum estimate techniques and loss functions for statistical decision theory and practical data processing.

Reliability analysis is the key to evaluate software’s quality. Since the early 1970s, the Power Law Process, among others, has been used to assess the rate of change of software reliability as time-varying function by using its intensity function. The Bayesian analysis applicability to the Power Law Process is justified using real software failure times. The choice of a loss function is an important entity of the Bayesian settings. The analytical estimate of likelihood-based Bayesian reliability estimates of the Power Law Process under the squared error and Higgins-Tsokos loss functions were obtained for different prior knowledge of its key parameter. As a result of a simulation analysis and using real data, the Bayesian reliability estimate under the Higgins-Tsokos loss function not only is robust as the Bayesian reliability estimate under the squared error loss function but also performed better, where both are superior to the maximum likelihood reliability estimate. A sensitivity analysis resulted in the Bayesian estimate of the reliability function being sensitive to the prior, whether parametric or non-parametric, and to the loss function. An interactive user interface application was additionally developed using Wolfram language to compute and visualize the Bayesian and maximum likelihood estimates of the intensity and reliability functions of the Power Law Process for a given data.

We discuss inverted exponentiated Rayleigh distribution under progressive first-failure censoring. Maximum likelihood and Bayes estimates of unknown parameters are obtained. An expectation–maximization algorithm is used for computing maximum likelihood estimates. Asymptotic intervals are constructed from the observed Fisher information matrix. Bayes estimates of unknown parameters are obtained under the squared error loss function. We construct highest posterior density intervals based on importance sampling. Different predictors and prediction intervals of censored observations are discussed. A Monte Carlo simulations study is performed to compare different methods. Finally, three real data sets are analyzed for illustration purposes.

In this paper, we offer generalized exponentiated gamma distribution. We consider the maximum likelihood and Bayesian estimators of unknown parameters and propose Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) method to generate samples from the posterior distribution. The mean square error of estimations is computed and comparisons are made using Monte Carlo simulation. Let a progressively type-II (PT-II) censored sample of size m is available. Under this set-up, we consider the problem of estimating unknown model parameters and two reliability characteristics of the log-logistic distribution. Maximum likelihood estimates (MLEs) are obtained. We use expectation–maximization (EM) algorithm. The observed Fisher information matrix is computed. We propose Bayes estimates with respect to various loss functions. In this purpose, we adopt Lindley’s approximation and importance sampling methods. Asymptotic and bootstrap confidence intervals are derived. Asymptotic intervals are obtained using two approaches: normal approximation to MLEs and log-transformed MLEs. The bootstrap intervals are computed using boot-t and boot-p algorithms. Further, highest posterior density (HPD) credible intervals are constructed. Two sets of practical data are analyzed for the illustration purpose. Finally, detailed simulation study is carried out to observe the performance of the proposed methods.

The objective of this study is to examine the properties of Bayes estimators of the shape parameter of the Power Function Distribution (PFD-I), by using two different prior distributions for the parameter θ and different loss functions that were compared with the maximum likelihood estimators. In many practical applications, we may have two different prior information about the prior distribution for the shape parameter of the Power Function Distribution, which influences the parameter estimation. So, we used two different kinds of conjugate priors of shape parameter θ of the Power Function Distribution (PFD-I) to estimate it. The conjugate prior function of the shape parameter θ was considered as a combination of two different prior distributions such as gamma distribution with Erlang distribution and Erlang distribution with exponential distribution and Erlang distribution with non-informative distribution and exponential distribution with the non-informative distribution. We derived Bayes estimators for shape parameter θ of the Power Function Distribution (PFD-I) according to different loss functions such as the squared error loss function (SELF), the weighted error loss function (WSELF) and modified linear exponential (MLINEX) loss function (MLF), with two different double priors. In addition to the classical estimation (maximum likelihood estimation). We used simulation to get the results of this study, for different cases of the shape parameter of the Power Function Distribution used to generate data for different samples sizes.

Many undergraduate students are introduced to frequentist or classical methods of parameter estimation such as maximum likelihood estimation, uniformly minimum variance unbiased estimation, and minimum mean square error estimation in a reliability, probability, or mathematical statistics course. Rossman, Short, and Parks (1998) present some thought provoking insights on the relationship between Bayesian and classical estimation using the continuous uniform distribution. Our aim is to explore these relationships using the exponential distribution. We show how the classical estimators can be obtained from various choices made within a Bayesian framework.

In this article, a new extension of the one parameter Xgamma distribution has been proposed. Also the associated different statistical properties are derived. The unknown parameter of the proposed distribution is estimated by using different classical estimation methods and by using Bayesian estimation method. Under classical methods of estimation, we brieflfly describe the method of moment estimators, maximum likelihood estimators, maximum product of spacing estimators, least squares and weighted least squares estimators and Cramer-von-Mises estimators. The Bayesian estimation using gamma prior under squared error loss function has been discussed and computed via Lindley’s approximation and Markov Chain Monte Carlo techniques. Furthermore, the 100(1 − α)% asymptotic confifidence interval and credible interval along with the coverage probability are also discussed. The obtained classical and the Bayesian estimators are compared through Monte Carlo simulations. Next, we construct a modifified Chi-squared goodness of fifit test based on the Nikulin-Rao-Robson (NRR) statistic in presence of censored and complete data. The applicability of our proposed model has been illustrated for both complete data and right censored data by using two real data sets for each.
