Research on a Management Control System in Space-Terrestrial Integrated Network

The integration of the two recognized network management protocol standards, common management information protocol, and simple network management protocol, and common object request broker architecture (CORBA) technology, allows management applications to take advantage of distributed object computing as well as the standardized network management protocols.

Experiences on integration of network management and a distributed computing platform

In this paper, we present the management of mobile switching center (MSC) trunks and trunk groups in cellular and personal communications systems (PCS) networks. We discuss platform-centered network management approaches based on simple network management protocol (SNMP) and common management information protocol (CMIP). We also describe the Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA ∗ ) solution for distributed computing and implementation of distributed objects based on Object Management Group (OMG) Interface Definition Language. ∗ CORBA appears to provide a better backbone for manager and agent applications than CMIP. In higher-level designs, the manager and agent applications can be adapted to a CMIP-style interface.

This article addresses the critical challenge of implementing high-performance, reliable embedded management agents for telecommunication networks operating within severe resource constraints. The article presents a comprehensive performance evaluation of major network management protocols, including Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) versions, Common Management Information Protocol (CMIP), and Embedded Web-Based Management (WBM) in the context of the OptiMA Digital Loop Carrier system. Through systematic evaluation of processing power requirements, memory consumption, and response times using specialized profiling tools and modified instrumentation frameworks, the article identifies optimal management solutions for embedded telecom devices. The implementation demonstrates a hybrid architecture that leverages Embedded WBM for bulk configuration operations in Local Element Management Systems and SNMP v2c for efficient monitoring in Remote Element Management Systems. This architectural approach successfully balances functionality with resource efficiency through a modular design featuring a common device management framework, protocol-specific handlers, and clear separation between protocol handling and device management layers. The article provides practical guidance for selecting and implementing network management protocols in resource-constrained embedded environments while maintaining standardization and interoperability requirements essential for modern telecommunications infrastructure.

Design of a proxy for managing CMIP agents via SNMP

To develop a network management system (NMS) more easily, the authors developed an application programming interface (API) for configuring network devices. Because this API is used in a Java development environment, an NMS can be developed by utilizing the API and other commonly available Java libraries. It is thus possible to easily develop an NMS that is highly compatible with other IT systems. And operations that are generated from the API and that are exchanged between the NMS and network devices are based on NETCONF, which is standardized by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) as a next-generation network-configuration protocol. Adopting a standardized technology ensures that the NMS developed by using the API can manage network devices provided from multi-vendors in a unified manner. Furthermore, the configuration items exchanged over NETCONF are specified in an object-oriented design. They are therefore easier to manage than such items in the Management Information Base (MIB), which is defined as data to be managed by the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). We actually developed several NMSs by using the API. Evaluation of these NMSs showed that, in terms of configuration time and development time, the NMS developed by using the API performed as well as NMSs developed by using a command line interface (CLI) and SNMP. The NMS developed by using the API showed feasibility to achieve “autonomic network management” and “high interoperability with IT systems.”

The electric power transmission network management is changing from decentralized to province-centralized mode to adapt to the development trend of power grid. For the current hierarchical management situation of transmission system, the paper mainly studies the centralized mode. Considering the difficulty of transform, security, the demand of bandwidth and augmentability factors, the paper proposes a hierarchical province-centralized mode based on Resource pool and states its architecture, realization methods and deployment mode of Network Manager System in Cloud, realizing the unified management, configuration and data sharing of the whole province. Deploying the network management system in the Clout is taking full use of the resource sharing, efficient management and on-demand resource of the Cloud to realize the intensification, promoting the scheduling intensive management level of Information and transmission. Introduction For a long time, the layered, graded, zoned management mode of electric power communication networks makes the network management system built and maintained by the way of multi-level scheduling mechanism. In order to fulfill the development trend of power grid, power transmission network management should be developed from the provinces and cities separated pattern to the province-centralized mode to realize unified management, unified configuration and sharing of the communication network data within province and achieve the purpose of concentrate and highly active management, reasonable resource-configuration and optimizing the structure of the network resources. Deploying the communication network management centrally is an effective way to enhance the level of intensive management, which, whereas, will cause the load that systems deal with increase sharply. However, Cloud computing technology integrates resources into form Cloud in order to get higher utilization of computing and storage, having a strong computing power and storage capacity. With the development of Cloud construction, deploying communication network management in the pool can improve data reliability and security. This paper puts forward a hierarchical province-centralized mode based on Cloud by researching on concentrated-model of Transmission Network Management, and describes the model in detail. Discussed Problems Power system communication network is the important technology support and infrastructure platform of the grid. As an important guarantee of power grid security, stability and economic running, communication network management system is the important technology means of the communication network management and maintenance. The authors Published by Atlantis Press 596 Communication network management system At present, the general transmission network management system is divided into Element Management System(EMS), Subnet Management System(SNMS) and Network Management (NMS) in terms of the management level. EMS is based on the device manager and realizes the management of safety, configuration, performance and alarm for specific equipment; SNMS can divide the network elements into various subnets, not only manage the elements equipments but also the topological relation between them. NMS is a higher level than the SNMS and manage multiple SNMS systems at the same time through network. It configures the router for each business level, and also shows the network elements’ circumstances of each time slot and the business relationships at all levels in details. The relationship of different level network management system is showed as the figure 1.

SNMP(Simple Network Management Protocol) is most commonly used as a standard protocol for effective network management by supporting the increasing size of the network and the variety of network elements such as router, switch, server and so on. However, SNMP has performance drawbacks of network overhead, processing latency, and the inefficiency in data retrieval. In this paper, we propose two schemes to improve the performance of SNMP; 1) the first scheme to reduce the amount of redundant OID information within a SNMP-GetBulk response message, 2) the second scheme of newly proposed SNMP-GetUpdate message combined with the cache in MNS. Through the analysis with real experiments, we show that our first scheme reduces the network overhead and the second scheme improves the processing latency and the retrieval of SNMP MB tables. And, therefore the scalability of network management can be improved.

In the traditional network management architecture, there is an implicit assumption that a managed device will not change its location. Location related information where available is static, and it is used for simple reporting purposes. However with mobile devices these attributes are inherently dynamic. Monitoring processes of management information also encounter difficulties of network instability caused by roaming of devices or wireless signal errors. So the current approach of network management needs to be reviewed. MobileIPv6 and NEMO are standardized protocols for realizing mobility-aware network. In this article we propose new network management technologies for MobileIPv6/NEMO network based on the Internet standard network management protocol, Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). Our focus is the importance of 1) location awareness and 2) intelligent monitoring process. We explained about the MobileIPv6/NEMO-MIB that is aware of mobile device’s dynamically changing location. We also propose the delayed data sending method that realizes effective transfer of management information without congestion over an instable network. From an evaluation in simulations, and experiments in real environment, we confirmed that our approach is effective for improving monitoring processes for mobile devices in management of MobileIPv6/NEMO network. This is one of the first management applications that are completely based on Internet standard protocols of MobileIPv6/NEMO, and SNMP.

The fault detection of satellite network is required to collect data of managed objects via network management protocol. Therefore, it is a premise of fault management of satellite network to choose a network management protocol designed according to the feature of satellite network. Due to the uniqueness of satellite network, the current network management protocol and standard, such as simple network management protocol (SNMP) and CMIP, are both directly unsuitable for the applying of fault detection of satellite network. By analysis of multiplex network management protocol (MNMP), this paper focuses on the discussion of the MNMP application in the fault detection of satellite network. Besides, in order to investigate the performance of fault detection based on MNMP, this paper also gives a performance test on several means of data acquisition of MNMP, and compares as well as analyze it with SNMP.

HINOC (High performance Network Over Coax) is an access network technology aimed at solving the bandwidth limit in user area. With the development of HINOC technology, it is significant to build an effective and efficient management system for HINOC network. After introduction to the basic principles of HINOC, this paper demonstrates a HINOC management system based on SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol), of which we implemented SNMP agent. Through comparison with the proxy agent scheme in several aspects, we find that the embedded agent scheme is more suitable for HINOC. To meet the detailed management requirements for HINOC, a set of HINOC-MGMT-MIB is defined and implemented in HB/HM software system, which enables monitoring of base information and network status, access control, QoS management, software automated upgrade, etc. The lab trial results manifest the agent functions properly on HINOC device.

Wireless sensor networks have garnered considerable attention recently. Networks typically have many sensor nodes, and are used in commercial, medical, scientific, and military applications for sensing and monitoring the physical world. Many researchers have attempted to improve wireless sensor network management efficiency. A Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP)-based sensor network management system was developed that is a convenient and effective way for managers to monitor and control sensor network operations. This paper proposes a novel WSNManagement system that can show the connections stated of relationships among sensor nodes and can be used for monitoring, collecting, and analyzing information obtained by wireless sensor networks. The proposed network management system uses collected information for system configuration. The function of performance analysis facilitates convenient management of sensors. Experimental results show that the proposed method enhances the alive rate of an overall sensor node system, reduces the packet lost rate by roughly 5%, and reduces delay time by roughly 0.2 seconds. Performance analysis demonstrates that the proposed system is effective for wireless sensor network management.

IPv6 over low-power wireless personal area networks (6LoWPAN), composed by large number of constrained devices with wireless communication ability, are becoming more and more important, not only because their reduced cost but also a lot of real world applications and their ability to connect to IP networks. Since devices in 6LoWPAN are expected to be deployed in extremely large numbers and they are expected to have limited compute, display and input capabilities, it makes network management critical in 6LoWPAN. The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is a widely used application protocol for network management and information control. In this paper, a network management architecture of 6LoWPAN based on SNMP is designed, including SNMP agents for constrained devices supporting IEEE 802.15.4 Radios and Contiki Embedded Operating System and SNMP manager in real IPv6 network.
