Efficient robust feed forward model predictive control with tracking
This paper extends efficient, robust model predictive control (MPC) approaches for linear parameter varying (LPV) systems to tracking scenarios. A dual mode approach is used and future information about target changes is included in the optimisation tracking problem. The controller guarantees recursive feasibility by adding an artificial target as an extra degree of freedom. Convergence to admissible targets is ensured by constructing a robustly invariant set to track any admissible target. The efficacy of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by MATLAB simulations.
Read moreA Robust MPC Energy Scheduling Strategy for Multi-Carrier Microgrids
We present a Robust Model Predictive Control (RMPC) approach for multi-carrier microgrids, i.e., microgrids based on gas and electricity. The microgrid that we consider includes thermal loads, electrical loads, renewable energy sources, energy storage systems, heat pumps, and combined heat and power plants. Moreover, the system under control is affected by several external disturbances, e.g., uncertainty in renewable energy generation, electrical and thermal demand. The goal of the controller is to minimize the overall economical cost and the energy exchange with the main grid, while guaranteeing comfort. Whereas several RMPC methods have been developed for electrical or thermal microgrids, little or no attention has been devoted to robust control of multi-carrier microgrids. Therefore, we consider a novel RMPC algorithm that can improve the performance with respect to classical deterministic Model Predictive Control (Det-MPC) controllers in the context of multi-carrier microgrids. The RMPC method relies on the box-uncertainty-set robust optimization, where uncertain parameters are assumed to take their values from different intervals independently. The RMPC approach is able to successfully satisfy the constraints even in the presence of the mentioned disturbances. Simulations of a realistic residential case study show the benefits of the proposed approach with respect to Det-MPC controllers.

A Multiobjective Solution Approach to Fault Detection and Isolation of LPV Systems
In this paper, we consider the fault Detection and isolation (FDI) problem for faulty linear parameter-varying (LPV) systems subject to disturbances and propose a observer-based solution by using multiobjective optimization techniques. To simply the design process, a general faulty LPV system will be constructed from standard LPV description by converting actuator/system component faults into sensor faults at first. Then a bank of LPV FDI filters will be designed to identify each fault. Each FDI filter could generate a residual signal to track individual fault with minimum error and suppressing the effects of disturbances and other fault signals. The design of FDI filters will be formulated as multiobjective optimization problems in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) and can be solved efficiently. Two numerical examples are also presented to demonstrate the proposed fault detection and isolation approach on both LPV and LTI systems.

Gain Scheduling Control of Wheel-Legged Robot LPV system Based on HOSVD
Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) system shows preferable performance in dealing with NonLinear (NL) systems and systems with time-varying parameters, based on a kind of wheel-legged robot with two-wheel and balance as Inverted Pendulum, this paper proposes a gain scheduling control method for balancing using LPV system on Equivalent model with Center Of Mass (COM). In order to ensure the stability and responsive of the system with possible values for all variable parameters, Higher Order Singular Value Decomposition (HOSVD) is used for constructing polytopic LPV system, then the robust controller is designed for the vertex systems forthputting Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) approach, and the gain scheduling controller for global system is obtained by convex combination of vertex LTI systems. The simulation results show that the system can achieve the expected indicators.

A novel robust model predictive control strategy is presented for a class of discrete-time time-varying system with delays. The modified quadratic Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals for uncertain discrete-time system with both states and input delays is proposed. A robust model predictive control law is derived such that the closed-loop system is asymptotically stable and a dasiaworst-casepsila infinite horizon performance objective is minimized. A feasible state feedback model predictive control law is obtained by using linear matrix inequalities approach. And then, a convex optimization problem is formulated to design the robust model predictive controller which minimizes the upper bound of the closed-loop performance objective. The robust model predictive controller design is illustrated with numerical examples.
Read moreGuaranteed cost control for LPV systems with Markovian switching under partially known transition rates
This paper investigates the guaranteed cost control problem for a class of linear parameter-varying (LPV) systems with Markovian switching under partly known transition rates. A key point of this work relaxes Markovian jump systems whose subsystems are described by linear time-invariant (LTI) dynamics to LPV systems with Markovian switching whose subsystems are described by LPV dynamics. Meanwhile, the special assumption of completely known transition rates is relaxed to more general case that transition rates are partly known. Moreover, the proposed control technique for the LPV systems with Markovian switching is used to solve the guaranteed cost control problem of turbofan-engine. Firstly, a guaranteed cost controller is designed, and the design problem can be reduced to a set of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) feasibility problem. Then, a turbofan-engine example is given to demonstrate the applicability of the main results.
Read moreTube-Based Output Feedback Robust MPC for LPV Systems With Scaled Terminal Constraint Sets.
This article provides a solution to tube-based output feedback robust model predictive control (RMPC) for discrete-time linear parameter varying (LPV) systems with bounded disturbances and noises. The proposed approach synthesizes an offline optimization problem to design a look-up table and an online tube-based output feedback RMPC with tightened constraints and scaled terminal constraint sets. In the offline optimization problem, a sequence of nested robust positively invariant (RPI) sets and robust control invariant (RCI) sets, respectively, for estimation errors and control errors is optimized and stored in the look-up table. In the online optimization problem, real-time control parameters are searched based on the bounds of time-varying estimation error sets. Considering the characteristics of the uncertain scheduling parameter in LPV systems, the online tube-based output feedback RMPC scheme adopts one-step nominal system prediction with scaled terminal constraint sets. The formulated simple and efficient online optimization problem with fewer decision variables and constraints has a lower online computational burden. Recursive feasibility of the optimization problem and robust stability of the controlled LPV system are guaranteed by ensuring that the nominal system converges to the terminal constraint set, and uncertain state trajectories are constrained within robust tubes with the center of the nominal system. A numerical example is given to verify the approach.

In this paper, a robust constrained model predictive control approach for discrete-time uncertain Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy systems is developed. Based on the non-parallel distributed compensation law (non-PDC), a fuzzy predictive controller is designed to stabilize the resulting closed-loop system via an extended non-quadratic Lyapunov function. Slack matrices and collection matrix are employed to obtain less conservative results and sufficient conditions for the solvability of this problem is provided in the form of linear matrix inequalities, the real-time fuzzy predictive control law is easily calculated and implemented, at each sampling time, which minimizes the objective function over infinite moving horizon subjects to input and output constraints. To demonstrate the effectiveness and applicability, the simulation results on a continuous stirred tank reactors (CSTR) is illustrated by the fuzzy model predictive control approach we proposed.
Read moreControl of nonlinear physiological systems via LPV framework
We introduce a controller design methodology for nonlinear systems via complementary Linear Parameter Varying (LPV) controller and observer structures. The recently developed method is able to control physiological systems even with complex nonlinearities — without using Linear Matrix Inequalities (LMI) or other techniques requiring iterations. The developed method is based on the classical state feedback theorems, matrix similarity theorems and supplementary controller and observer structure which efficiently uses the mathematical properties of the parameter space of the LPV system. The main benefits of the proposed method is that the controller design does not require mathematical tools needing iteration thus high computational capacity. We used a nonlinear compartmental model in order to demonstrate the application of the method. The results showed that the developed complementary LPV controller and observer structures perform well on both the LPV systems and the original nonlinear system as well.

This paper proposes \(H_{2}\)/\(H_{\infty }\) full state-feedback synthesis for robot manipulators, using uncertain polytopic linear parameter-varying (LPV) system modeling, with pole placement constraints to assign the poles of closed-loop system in a desired linear matrix inequality (LMI) region. The desired state trajectory of the system is used for generating an uncertain polytopic model of the system applying usual Lagrangian equations. The control gain matrix is derived by solving a set of LMIs to design a robust pole placement controller such that a prescribed mixed \(H_{2}\)/\(H_{\infty }\) performance is fulfilled and the response of the manipulator has a proper damping ratio. A sufficient condition is proposed to guarantee the asymptotic stability of the closed-loop uncertain polytopic LPV system against the uncertainties on the vertices. The proposed scheme is applied to controller synthesis of a two-degree-of-freedom manipulator trajectory-tracking problem. The simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.
Read moreControl of switched LPV systems using common Lyapunov function method and an F-16 aircraft application
This paper presents a controller design method for dealing with the induced ℒ 2 -norm problem for switched linear parameter-varying (LPV) systems. Considering the arbitrary switchings caused by the parameters varying, a common parameter-dependent Lyapunov function is employed to derive sufficient linear matrix inequality (LMI) conditions for the switched LPV systems. A family of LPV controllers are designed according to the LMI conditions, and each of them is suitable for the corresponding parameter region. The proposed switching LPV control method is applied to an F-16 aircraft longitudinal model and simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.
