Satellite images edge detection based on morphology models fusion

Edge detection is often used in image processing to find the edge boundaries of image objects and this is important for selecting the edges of image parts. The image edge detection used in this study counts coins in an image, so that it can easily pass through the human eye but not by a computer. In a computer system, it is necessary to provide programs and test data so that the computer can read and count coins like a human. The purpose of this study is to count coins in an image using Canny edge detection and Gaussian filtering methods. The images used in this study are in the form of *jpg and tested using the Visual Studio Code application using OpenCV and Python. The results of this study indicate that the results of the number of coins read from the images inputted to the system can be read properly, with a data accuracy of 90%. Canny's edge detection method can be used to count the number of coins in an image.Keywords: Pengolahan Citra; Deteksi tepi Canny; Gaussian filtering; OpenCV;

Cellular edge detection: Combining cellular automata and cellular learning automata

During space reconnaissance applications, edge detection from remote sensing imagery plays an important role in the target recognition processing. However, traditional edge detection methods usually only utilize the high-frequency information in one image. Since low-frequency elements may be aliasing with high-frequency parts, the edges extracted may be unconnected under complex topography, different objects and imaging conditions. This paper proposes a novel image edge detection method based on Non-Subsampled Contourlet Transform (NSCT) to keep the object boundary continuously. It transforms the image into Contourlet domain in both high-frequency and low-frequency sub-bands respectively. Depending on the feature of flexible directivity reservation of an image during NSCT, the further edge extraction consists of 3 steps: firstly, the elements of the high-frequency coefficient matrix in Contourlet domain are filtered with high values left using adaptive thresholds. Then the low-frequency edge information is extracted via Canny operator from the low-frequency sub-band information. Finally, to achieve a more consistent edge image, the low-frequency edge image is achieved according to the low-frequency matrix and adopted to compensate the high-frequency image with the isolated noise points eliminated as well. The numerical simulation and practical test results show the higher effectiveness and robustness of the proposed algorithm when comparing with the classical edge detectors, such as Sobel operator, Canny operator, Log operator and Prewitt operator, etc.

Cellular Learning Automata (CLA) has been used in many fields of image processing such as noise elimination, smoothing, retrieval, fractionated and extraction of the content Characteristics of the images. The edge detection in images and methods if edge detection, have a great role in machine vision and cognizance systems. This method uses operands for analyzing images and digital image processing. Many studios here been conducted till now in edge detection algorithms of various conditions. In this study a new method for edge detection in images with the use of CLA is recommended. The proposed method of edge detection in images was tested with different sizes and the results were compared with Sobel edge detector classic method. The result show that the method based on CLA has a desirable performance in edge detection and compares the images with a more uniformity during a minimum period of time.

Budaya aksara Lampung pada saat ini sudah jarang digunakan sehingga terancam punah. Untuk melestarikan budaya tersebut, maka dilakukan penelitian mengenai huruf aksara Lampung secara digital dengan metode pengolahan citra dan pengenalan pola. Pada penelitian ini, terbagi menjadi dua tahap yaitu tahap pelatihan dan tahap pengujian. Pada tahap pelatihan dilakukan pengolahan citra dan pelatihan jaringan saraf tiruan (JST) backpropagation. Salah satu tahapan dalam pengolahan citra adalah deteksi tepi. Dalam menganalisis karakter huruf aksara Lampung menggunakan metode deteksi tepi untuk melihat pola garis huruf tersebut. Metode pengolahan citra yang digunakan dalam mendeteksi tepi citra adalah metode deteksi tepi Roberts dan metode deteksi tepi Sobel. Hasil pengolahan citra akan masuk ke tahap pelatihan JST. Bobot yang didapat dari pelatihan kemudian akan digunakan pada tahap pengujian. Metode Sobel dapat mengenali karakter aksara Lampung lebih baik, dimana hasil dari pengujian karakter aksara Lampung memberikan nilai presentase error sebesar 28.5% dengan metode deteksi Roberts dan 14.5% dengan metode deteksi Sobel.

The iris is a part of the human anatomy that can be used as a biometric identifier. Data obtained from the iris can be converted into information through iris image processing, and in order to obtain accurate iris pixel results, an edge detection operator is required that can provide detailed and good image quality effects. In this research, a comparative analysis of the Canny, Sobel, Prewitt and Roberts edge detection operators was carried out on iris images. The purpose of performing a comparative analysis of edge detection methods is to compare the detection results of each edge detection operator on iris recognition detected by each operator. The results of the comparison of edge detection methods using precision tables can be analyzed to show that the Canny edge detection operator provides better, smoother and sharper edge results in actual edge point detection, namely 0.357867, while Sobel =, 0.210212, Prewitt = 0.212452 and Roberts = 0.279196. From these results it can be concluded that the edge detection results provided by Sobel and Prewitt are less sharp and sensitive to noise, and the comparison results can vary depending on the intensity of the image and the image object being compared.

This study explores the application of digital image processing techniques to improve the diagnostic accuracy of coronary artery disease through enhanced analysis of angiographic images. A curated dataset of 40 grayscale, single-vessel angiograms was used to evaluate the effectiveness of various preprocessing and edge detection methods. Preprocessing steps included noise reduction, histogram equalization, and morphological operations aimed at improving image clarity and highlighting vascular structures. Three edge detection algorithms, Otsu, Canny, and Roberts, were applied, and their outputs were further combined using the Dempster-Shafer fusion theory. Performance was assessed using edge-based structural similarity (ESSIM) and the percentage error in vessel diameter measurements. The Canny algorithm demonstrated the highest individual accuracy, while the fusion of Canny and Roberts yielded superior results, achieving the lowest error and the highest similarity index.

In this paper, a hybrid edge detection method based on fuzzy sets and cellular learning automata is proposed. At first, existing methods of edge detection and their problems are discussed and then a high performance method for edge detection, that can extract edges more precisely by using only fuzzy sets than by other edge detection methods, is suggested. After that the edges improve incredibly by using cellular learning automata. In the end, we compare it with popular edge detection methods such as Sobel and Canny. The proposed method does not need parameter settings as Canny edge detector does, and it can detect edges more smoothly in a shorter amount of time while other edge detectors cannot.

Edge detection is an important task in image processing. There are a lot of approaches in this area: Sobel, Canny operators and others. One of the perspective techniques in image processing is the use of fuzzy logic and fuzzy sets theory. They allow us to increase processing quality by representing information in its fuzzy form. Most of the existing fuzzy image processing methods switch to fuzzy sets on very late stages, so this leads to some useful information loss. In this paper, a novel method of edge detection based on fuzzy image representation and fuzzy pixels is proposed. With this approach, we convert the image to fuzzy form on the first step. Different approaches to this conversion are described. Several membership functions for fuzzy pixel description and requirements for their form and view are given. A novel approach to edge detection based on Sobel operator and fuzzy image representation is proposed. Experimental testing of developed method was performed on remote sensing images.

Wavelet space entropy is the extension of wavelet time entropy in the two-dimensional space, which can make use of the wavelet to detect sudden change in the signal. It's a good method to eliminate the effect of noise, but at the same time, the edge it detects is coarse and not integrated. Canny operator is a classical edge detection operator that has a good localization performance for the edge. It works well for the signal mixed with little noise, but when applied to image with lots of noise, the edge it detects is often submerged by the noise. In this paper, the wavelet space entropy algorithm is improved. Furthermore, the two methods of edge detection are combined in the paper to make full use of the advantage of both methods. Simulation has proved the integrated method to be a better one for edge detection when the image is polluted by noise.

Edge detection is a commonly performed operation in image processing. In this paper, we propose a new method for edge detection using the logarithm function. The pixel values within a mask are normalized so that they can be regarded as probabilities. A positive constant is added to the probabilities to avoid zero values. Then, the sum of the logarithms of the adjusted probabilities is calculated. A threshold is chosen for generating the black and white edge image. Morphological operation is applied as post processing for refining the edges. Simulation results show that the proposed method has consistent performance on various sample images, which is competitive with the Sobel and Canny operators for edge detection. It is shown that the proposed method has almost identical performance as the entropy method. This phenomenon is well explained by using the theory of quasientropy.

This study aims to identify chicken egg embryos with the concept of image processing. This concept uses input and output in images. Thus the identification process, which was originally carried out using manual observation, was developed by computerization. Digital images are applied in identification by various image preprocessing, image segmentation, and edge detection methods. Based on these three methods, image processing has three processes: image grayscaling (convert to a grayscale image), image adjustment, and image enhancement. Image adjustment aims to clarify the image based on color correction. Meanwhile, image enhancement improves image quality, using histogram equalization (HE) and Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization methods (CLAHE). Specifically for the image enhancement method, the CLAHE-HE combination is used for the improvement process. At the end of the process, the method used is edge detection. In this method, there is a comparison of various edge detection operators such as Roberts, Prewitt, Sobel, and canny. The results of edge detection using these four methods have the SSIM value respectively 0.9403; 0.9392; 0.9394; 0.9402. These results indicate that the SSIM values ​​of the four operators have the same or nearly the same value. Thus, the edge detection method can provide good edge detection results and be implemented because the SSIM value is close to 1.00 (more than 0.93). Image segmentation detected object (egg and embryo), and the continued process by edge detection showed clearly edge of egg and embryo.

Introduction:High-speed and high-efficient machining is the inevitable development direction of machining technology. The tool edge preparation can improve the life, cutting performance, and surface quality of a tool and help to achieve high-speed and efficient machining. Therefore, precise modeling and detection of the micron-level contour of a tool edge are crucial for edge preparation. The aim of this study is to provide the model and detect method of the prepared tool edge radius.Methods:The mathematical model of the milling tool trajectory is established through the Matlab. The material removal model by single abrasive particle is established based on the energy conservation principle and energy absorption theory. The material removal model by multiple abrasive grains on the cutting tool edge is constructed using the statistical methods. The mathematical model of the edge radius is established through the geometrical relationship. The milling edge preparation contour detection system is setup based on the machine vision principle through LabVIEW software. Finally, the edge radius at different process parameters is determined by the mathematical model and detection system, and the results are compared with the results of the scanning electron microscopic measurement (SEM).Results:Through the Comparison and analysis of the edge radius measured by the SEM and calculated by the proposed model. The maximum error between the analytical results and SEM measurements is 11.18 μm, while the minimum error is 0.07 μm. Through the comparison and analysis of the edge radius measured by the SEM and the edge detection system. The maximum difference between the two methods is 2.71 μm, and the minimum difference is 0.31 μm. The maximum difference in percentage is 9.2%, and the minimum difference in percentage is 1.2%.Discussions:The edge preparation mechanisms of a single particle and multiple particles on the tool edge are explained. A mathematical model of the edge radius is established, which provides a basis for a deeper understanding of the edge preparation effect. Based on the machine vision principle, the prepared tool micron-level edge detection method is proposed. The histogram specification method, median filtering, multi-threshold segmentation method, and Canny edge detection operator are adopted to obtain the edge contour. The comparison result shows that the mathematical model of the edge radius is accurate, and the proposed tool edge detection method is feasible, which lays the foundation for edge preparation and realization of high-speed and high-efficient machining.

Aiming at the edge detection of thin sheet part dimension inspection system based on machine vision, a contrast research on edge detection is investigated. The Gaussian blurred simulation image and thin sheet part image are took as evaluation images, and the edge detection are done with Roberts operator, Sobel operator, Prewitt operator, Kirsch operator, Laplacian operator, LOG operator and mathematical morphology edge detection method. The results of edge detection are analyzed deeply, and the edge location accuracy, noise resisting ability and calculation time of each algorithm are compared. The single-pixel width connected contour is acquired with mathematical morphology edge detection method, the detection time are 0.0521 second and 0.457 second respectively. It is appropriate that taking the mathematical morphology edge detection method as the edge detection method of thin sheet part dimension inspection system based on machine vision.

Identification of lineament structure plays a vital role in determining the metallogenic area and distribution of the geologic structure. Edge detection methods are mostly used to recognize the lineaments and define the geologic boundaries. Cooperatively using edge detection results of the gravity, magnetic and remote sensing data to recognize lineaments would obtain more geologic information. In this paper, new edge detectors of potential field derivatives are proposed to determine the sources’ boundary, named second tilt derivative, tilt of vertical derivative, and normalized second vertical derivative, respectively. Presented approaches are characterized by producing zero amplitude over sources’ edges and equalizing anomalies from different depths. Compared with original edge detection techniques including other second derivative methods, synthetic examples reveal significant superiorities of suggested approaches in providing more accurate and sharper edges and are especially effective in distinguishing superimposed anomalies. The experiments also demonstrate that the normalization to the edge detectors will make images cleaner and geologic edges more easily captured. Applied to airborne gravimetric and magnetic data in the Pobei area (NW China), the proposed methods display more geologic details and lineaments. Canny, Sobel, and Prewitt operators are applied to extract boundaries of remote sensing image. Lineaments picked by the three different types of data are combined collectively to get a comprehensive lineaments structure interpretation.
