Security Issues in IoT and Cloud Computing Service Models with Suggested Solutions

Cloud computing (CC) services can offer substantial cost-effective global operational and relationship benefits if the cooperation between logistics and CC services are resilient. Potential vulnerabilities to cooperation of CC and logistics service providers can occur with respect to vital factors such as security and trust. Extant studies have demonstrated CC benefits as well as few challenges associated with CC services application. However, no extant study has examined the inter-organisational benefits based on cooperative resilience between CC and logistics service providers in terms of both capability and trust vulnerability factors. This study examines the cooperative resilience of logistics and CC service providers based on innovation diffusion theory within a supply chain risk assessment framework. Using structural equation modelling techniques, we investigate the relationship between the vulnerability factor (trust), capability factor (security) and collaboration benefits (relationship and operational) offered by CC service providers based on 236 Chinese logistics service firms’ perceptions of CC adoption. The results indicate Chinese logistics companies perceive security impediments as a major factor affecting cooperative resilience between logistics service and CC service providers.

Cloud computing is a promising computing model that enables convenient and on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources. The first offered cloud service is moving data into the cloud: data owners let cloud service providers host their data on cloud servers and data consumers can access the data from the cloud servers. This new paradigm of data storage service also introduces new security challenges, because data owners and data servers have different identities and different business interests. Therefore, an independent auditing service is required to make sure that the data is correctly hosted in the Cloud. In this paper, we investigate this kind of problem and give an extensive survey of storage auditing methods in the literature. First, we give a set of requirements of the auditing protocol for data storage in cloud computing. Then, we introduce some existing auditing schemes and analyze them in terms of security and performance. Finally, some challenging issues are introduced in the design of efficient auditing protocol for data storage in cloud computing.

Elderly population in the Asian countries is increasing at a very fast rate. Lack of healthcare resources and infrastructure in many countries makes the task of provding proper healthcare difficult. Internet of things (IoT) in healthcare can address the problem effectively. Patient care is possible at home using IoT devices. IoT devices are used to collect different types of data. Various algorithms may be used to analyse data. Smart city can be taken as the biggest implementation of Internet of things (IoT) applications. Smart city technologies promote cloud-based and IoT-based services in which real-world user interfaces use smart phones, sensors, RFIDs, etc. The IoT ecosystems cannot properly communicate between them. So it needs a bridge between them to fill the global common approach. Implementation of this can be done with the help of information and communication technologies (ICT) which may result in enhancing quality, interconnection, and the performance of various urban services. It highlights the need for cloud computing and IoT technologies and both have a major impact on how we build and deploy smart applications for it. There are still numerous difficulties that remain with regard to its deployment due to its varying requirements. In this paper, authors tried to converge the two domains that are cloud computing and IoT for smart city application deployment and also present the identified security threat types and their countermeasures in the context of smart city.

Moving data and applications to the cloud implies shifting their control from cloud consumers to the cloud service provider (CSP) indefinitely. Hence, the security and privacy (Saamp;P) of the consumers' assets becomes an important issue. Assessing and comparing potential cloud computing (CC) services, poses an issue for CC adopters to choose Saamp;P options that are sufficient and robust at the same time. In this paper, we describe CC adopters' Saamp;P concerns. We identify a set of attributes that reflect various aspects of cloud Saamp;P in an attempt to alleviate those concerns. We classify the attributes based on their tangibility and their relevance to Saamp;P threats. Every attribute in our list is represented by a set of considerations (i.e. polar questions) to assess its quality. We present a tool that embodies our set of attributes. We aim to enable consumers to assess and compare CC services, in terms of Saamp;P, so that they can make well-educated choices. CSPs can also make use of these attributes to offer better cloud Saamp;P.

Cloud computing, undoubtedly, has become the buzzword in the IT industry today. Looking at the potential impact it has on numerous business applications as well as in our everyday life, it can certainly be said that this disruptive technology is here to stay. Many of the features that make cloud computing attractive, have not just challenged the existing security system, but have also revealed new security issues. This paper provides an insightful analysis of the existing status on cloud computing security issues based on a detailed survey carried by the author. It also makes an attempt to describe the security challenges in Software as a Service (SaaS) model of cloud computing and also endeavors to provide future security research directions.

The term Internet of Things (IoT) refers to a broad class of devices used by business entities as well as consumers to provide or consume a broad array of services. All these devices share their need to connect to the internet to deliver their native functionality. This connection requirement exposes the devices to the cybersecurity threats found on the internet. Existing literature on IoT cybersecurity solution models has shown that different technologies, such as communication technologies, mobile-app based authorization framework, graph-theoretic approach or blockchain technologies, have been majorly proposed to solve IoT security issues. However, these studies only focus on some specific IoT security issues like data theft or security issues on some specific layer across the whole IoT architecture. Therefore, there is a lack of systematic framework to solve IoT cybersecurity issues. This paper presents a framework for assessing such risks. In the qualitative analysis results, the device threats seem more severe than data confidentiality and privacy issues. This surprising finding highlights the significances of security taxonomy because both issues are based on different technical requirements. Our study has important managerial and practical implications for users, managers, and policymakers.

Background: The integration of mobile computing and cloud computing has the potential to revolutionize healthcare delivery by providing ubiquitous access to resources and enabling new service development and delivery models. While cloud computing has been extensively studied in fields such as genomics and molecular medicine, its application in healthcare beyond these domains remains relatively unexplored. This scoping review aims to identify the current state and emerging research topics in cloud computing in healthcare outside of the traditional “OMICS context.” Methods: A comprehensive search was conducted in MEDLINE in July 2013 and December 2014 using keywords related to cloud computing and cloud-based services. The identified journal and conference articles were independently categorized and summarized by two researchers, who subsequently consolidated their findings. Results: A total of 102 publications were analyzed, revealing six main topics in cloud computing in healthcare: telemedicine/teleconsultation, medical imaging, public health and patient self-management, hospital management and information systems, therapy, and secondary use of data. Common features utilized in these applications included broad network access for data sharing and access, as well as rapid elasticity to meet computing demands. While some articles highlighted the cost-effectiveness of pay-per-use cloud services, only 14 articles reported successful implementations, with many publications focusing on conceptual or prototypic projects. Additionally, several articles equated cloud computing with internet-/web-based data sharing, failing to illustrate the unique benefits of the cloud computing paradigm. Conclusions: Although the integration of mobile computing and cloud computing in healthcare is gaining attention, successful implementations in the field are still limited. Many papers use the term “cloud” interchangeably with “virtual machines” or “web-based” without clearly demonstrating the advantages of the cloud paradigm. Data safety and security concerns associated with involving external cloud partners remain significant barriers to adoption in the healthcare domain. As of now, cloud computing is primarily favored for its individual features, such as elasticity, pay-per-use models, and broad network access, rather than as a comprehensive cloud computing paradigm.

The cloud allows mobiles to download complex mobile apps that are not feasible on mobile devices alone. Cloud computing has overcome many challenges to prove its many advantages for organizations, such as the association between heterogeneous networks and working gatherings. Nevertheless challenges remain, and security, privacy and cloud integrity are crucial. Future models should enhance the characteristics of the current model without endangering it. This chapter reviews security threats to the cloud and provides an overview of mobile cloud computing services and key performance models.

With the continuous evolution of technology, the prevalence of the Internet of Things (IoT) has grown significantly. However, with this rise comesa number of challenges for integrated Cloud Computing (CC), including security, performance, latency, and network issues. Fortunately, Fog Computing is a solution that addresses these concerns by bringing CC closer to IoT devices. Essentially, fog serves as a data hub that processes and stores information locally on the fog node, rather than sending it to a cloud server. This results in faster response times and higher- quality services compared to those offered by traditional cloud servers. Fog Computing can optimize service delivery for multiple IoT clients by allowing the administrationof services and resource provisioning outside of CC, nearer to devices, or at specific locations for Service Level Agreements (SLAs). It's important to note that Fog Computing is not intended to replace CC, but rather to complement itas a critical component. In this paper, we explore various computing paradigms, examine the features and architecture of Fog Computing, analyze its relationship with IoT, and assess differentalgorithms used in Fog Computing systems. Furthermore, we tackle the distinctive challenges that emerge with Fog Computing as an intermediate layer between IoT sensors/devices and data centers. Building on compute and storage virtualization, Cloud Computing provides scalable, network-centric, abstracted IT infrastructure, platforms, and applications as on-demand services that are billed by consumption. Cloud Service Engineering is the application of a systematic approach to leverage Cloud Computing in the context of the Internet in its combined role as a platform for technical, economic, organizational and social networks. This tutorial introduces concepts and technology of Cloud Computing and Cloud Service Engineering, providing an overview of state-of-the-art in research and practice. We show how to set up a private Cloud that delivers Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS). Eucalyptus and OpenNebula are popular open source software frameworks for creating on-premise Clouds. Promises, challenges and solutions for integrating services of a private Cloud with public Cloud services such as Amazon EC2 and SQS are discussed. We show how the best of both worlds - private and public Clouds - can be combined to build scalable and secure systems.
