Sensory and Information Overload

Among the variety of synonymously similar scientific concepts used in psychological research (cognitive overload, sensory overload, knowledge overload, information fatigue syndrome, cognitive information load, information overload, cognitive load), we chose the concept of “information overload” for categorical analysis, because it defines the most holistically and complete the corresponding psychological phenomenon, meaningfully reflecting and naming significant realities. The essential signs of this phenomenon are: the external one – “what caused the state of tension” (informational message) – and the internal one - “what mental state appears as a result” (overload). Information overload is defined as a state of an individual’s mental stress caused by received excessive information messages; this excessiveness is experienced subjectively as a stressful situation associated with worsened efficiency of the individual’s cognitive mental processes and causes a mental protective blocking of high-quality deep intellectual processing of incoming information and its transformation into full-fledged personal knowledge. In the context of multi-sensory perception by a media consumer of modern informational sources, two processes are important: coding by an addressee and decoding by an addressee of an information message; accordingly, in the process of media-perceptual communication, information overload becomes a barrier to knowledge formation by an individual perceiving certain information flows. The content and nature of information overload as a psychological phenomenon is revealed in the measurement of the four aspects we have identified: cognitive, behavioral, emotional-motivational and competence. At the cognitive aspect, information overload is considered in the context of an individual's cognitive activities, affected by the functional limitations of cognitive processes (perception, attention, memory, thinking), and is determined through an individual's cognitive style. At the psychological dimension of the behavioral aspect, information overload is interpreted as a way for mass consciousness manipulating with the political or consumer-related context for individuals’ behavior modeling, in particular, during decision making. At the emotional-motivational aspect, information overload is defined as the emotional state of mental stress associated with unexpected and unfavorable informational influences, accompanied by a deterioration of an individual’s professional efficiency. At the psychological dimension of the competence-based aspect, information overload is interpreted as a psychological threat to an individual’s mental health and is defined as underdeveloped media literacy, as a result of used ineffective strategies by a media consumer in modern mediacommunication. As for counteraction, it is necessary to form media literacy of information consumers, increase their personal self-efficacy.

Extended Abstract 1- Introduction Since the inception of modern bureaucracy, several theories and paradigms were created to explain the factors affecting the productivity, efficiency and effectiveness of human labor. Each of these theories emphasized on the role of different factors affecting the efficiency and effectiveness of human resources. One of the effective variables on the productivity, efficiency and effectiveness of human labor, which has attracted the attention of scientists in recent years, is family wellbeing in family or job performance and occupational health. The new management has found that programs that are designed to strengthen family health and increase job satisfaction and employee empowerment, increase their productivity and job performance, and in turn, improve productivity and performance levels and economic health of organization. Family well-being is defined as emotional, social and economic health of children, parents and families, generally, as well as physical health, mental health, quality of relationships between parents and family members, and also the quality of relationships between parents and children. The researchers showed that the family relation index is strong predictors of quality of occupational life of employees, and there is a mutual relation between the quality of working life and quality of life and relationships among family members. Based on family systems theory and ecological theory about the family, some researchers have indicated that the employee's experience is probably a reflection of the experiences of their families. The aim of this study was to examine the two questions: First, how is the status of family relation index as an indicator of the health of the families of the police? Second, do the police staffs families health influence their job performance? 2- Theoretical Framework Several theories have emerged about the family well-being and its impact on other spheres of life, including job issues in literature related to the quality of family life. In literature related to the health of the family, three theories are more well-known and useful. These theories include: 1. Human Ecological Systems Theory: this theory leads the different levels of systems that make up probable unit of observation and provides the basic assumptions about the exchanges between human resources and the environment; 2. Resources Theory: this theory guides definition of the content of family life, conceptualize the interpersonal resources of exchanges in family relationships, expand the scales, and interprets the results; and 3. Facet Theory: this theory helps translate theoretical concepts into operational measures, and provides data analysis methods consistent with research purposes. 3. Methodology This study was a survey and cross-sectional design. Data were collected from 38 police centers in Yazd province in June and July 2013. The population consisted of Yazd police employee's families and their spouses and managers from different units of Yazd police. Using Cochran formula, 300 people (100 employees, 100 spouses of employees, and 100 officials and commanders) were selected. Measuring instruments were Paterson's job performance questionnaire, and Family Relation Index. Data were analyzed using independent t-test comparison of means and Hierarchical multiple regression. 4- Results & Discussion The results showed that the prevalence rate of deficiency in quality of relation indicator in Yazd selected police families was high. The results showed that 59% of selected families said there was not a favorable relationship among members and their families did not have the favorable characteristics regarding family relations. Also, 41% of police families reported that they had the indicators and criteria of a good family regarding to quality of relationships within the family. There was a significant difference among families with problems in family relationships and family without problems in terms of the quality of employee performance. Also, hierarchical multiple regression analysis showed that family relation index explained for 23.2% of the variance of job performance. 5. Conclusions & Suggestions The signs of failure in family relations, such as lack of concern for the members for each other, lack of enjoyment of family relations, differences and disputes in relationships, feel like a stranger in the family, lack of mutual understanding, and so on was observed among Yazd selected police families. According to these results, the police should increasingly strengthen family relations through the interventional actions, such as the workshops, aimed at enabling people.

Introduction of latest interactive communication technology among the rural population has opened a new vista of researchers to find out viability, acquaintance, accessibility, satisfaction, constraints and many more issues of the launched electronic communication technology and systems. There exists a gap between the information available and its dissemination. There is a need to find out better and faster means of communication which will bridge the gap between the researches and their applicability. The information technology revolution has provided huge opportunities to make easy access to information with interactive distance learning. The mechanism of internet and T.V. aided information technology help to reach the unreach.
 Wheat is an important crop grown in hilly Distt. Reasi of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir where different varieties of wheat are grown. Keeping in mind the importance of communication behaviour in the transfer of wheat production technology, a study on “Communication Behaviour of Wheat Growers in Reasidistt. Reasi of Jammu &Kashmir, India” was conducted in hilly District Reasi of Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir which was selected purposively. Out of 12 C.D. Blocks 4C.D.Blocks namely Reasi, Pouni, Katra and Thuroo were selected randomly. A sample of 20 per cent villages was selected randomly from selected Gram Panchayats. A sample of 20 per cent Gram Panchayats from each selected block was selected randomly. A sample of 20 per cent villages from the selected Gram Panchayats was selected randomly. A sample of 20 per cent (150) wheat growers was selected randomly from selected villages. Hence, a total of 150 respondents were finally selected for recording their responses for study purpose. Communication behaviour of wheat growers has been operationalised as information input, information processing and information output behaviour of the respondents. An index was prepared for studying the communication behaviour of wheat growers, wherein information input was studied in terms of sources of information, processing of information was studied in terms of evaluation, storage and transfer of information and information output was studied in terms of dissemination of information.
 It was found that the majority of respondents were using Extension Personnel of KVK, Extension Personnel of Departments of Agriculture, progressive farmers, television, relatives and friends and radio as arranged rank wise 1, 2, 3,4, 5 and 6respectively as the main sources of information on wheat production technologies referred as the information input behaviour of the vegetables growers.
 A large number of farmers used to evaluate (processing) the information by discussing with the elder family members, progressive farmers, neighbourers and local leaders/key communicators as arranged rankwise 1, 2, 3 and 4 respectively. Majority of wheat growers stored the information by memorization and writing in general notebooks as arranged rankwise 1 and 2 respectively. A large number of wheat growers transformed the information by rearranging the important information as per their needs and rearranging the information in local dialect. Majority of wheat growers disseminated the information (information output) to their family members, neighbourers and those who cultivate in their lands as arranged rank wise 1, 2 and 3 respectively. It was found that majority of wheat growers had medium communication behaviour towards different wheat production information sources.

The information technology revolution: Computer hardware, software, and services into the 21st century

Purpose Whereas the precarious nature of research careers is well-established, how this reality affects the subjective work experiences of early career researchers (ECRs) remains underexplored. To contribute to the growing literature on how academia impacts ECRs’ lives and well-being, this paper aims to examine this issue through the lens of decent work. Design/methodology/approach The authors surveyed 520 European ECRs, assessing their perceived decent work through five indicators: safe working conditions, access to health care, adequate compensation, free time and rest and complementary values. They tested whether ECRs’ perceived decent work was associated with the meaning they ascribed to work and, using mediation analyses, how life satisfaction and meaning in work articulated as outcomes of their perceived decent work. Findings Although no significant differences were found between academic stages (doctoral/postdoctoral), women tended to view their working conditions as less safe than men. The only cross-country difference concerned adequate compensation. Respondents’ perceptions of decent work were also linked to their work meaningfulness and life satisfaction, underlying that a job perceived as decent contributes to ECRs’ quality of life and work fulfilment. Practical implications The findings suggest that universities should pay attention to three aspects of ECRs’ work situation that shape their perceptions of holding decent jobs: adequate compensation for their work, congruence between personal/family values and those of their institutions and safe working conditions. Originality/value This study adds to the global conversation about the challenges facing ECRs in today’s academic labour market by applying the decent work concept to ECRs for the first time, thereby offering new insights into how this population perceives its working conditions.

Do PCGs need information officers?

Aim. To compare the nature and degree of influence of different types of airway hyperresponsiveness (AHR) on the general and specific quality of life (QoL) of patients with asthma and control over the disease.Materials and methods. 234 patients with mild-to-moderate asthma, aged from 18 to 60 years old, were interviewed and examined. Depending on the presence of one or another type of AHR, 4 groups were formed: group 1 included 60 patients with cold AHR, group 2 – 75 patients with hypoosmotic AHR, group 3 – 35 patients with hyperosmotic AHR, group 4 – 64 patients with exercise-induced bronchoconstriction (EIB). QoL and the state of the emotional sphere were assessed using the SF-36, AQLQ, HADS questionnaires. The level of asthma control was determined using the ACT questionnaire. Lung function was assessed by spirometry.Results. When comparing QoL between groups, statistical differences were obtained for most of the SF-36 scales, with the exception of the domains “Role Physical” (RP) and “Bodily Pain” (BP), and their presence and significance varied depending on the types of AHR being compared. The lowest QoL indices were found in group 1 of patients with cold AHR according to the domains “Physical Activity” (PA), RP, BP, and “Role Emotional” (RE). The lowest indices for the domains “General Health” (GH), “Vitality” (V) and “Mental health” (MH) were found in the respondents of the 2nd group. Most of the highest QoL indicators in the compared groups were found in patients of group 4 with EIB in the domains PA, RP, V, RE, and MH. When carrying out a comparative analysis, the maximum number of significant differences was found between the groups with cold AHR and EIB. A comparative study of QoL using a special AQLQ questionnaire showed the lowest indices for the “Activity” and “Symptoms” domains in groups 1 and 2 of asthma patients. In addition, in group 1, the minimum QoL values were recorded for the “General QoL” domain (3.6±0.2 points), and in group 2, for the “Environment” domain (2.9±0.3 compared with 3.9±0.2 points in group 3, p<0.01).Conclusion. This study has demonstrated the multifaceted effect of AHR on health-related QoL, dependent on sensitivity to a particular physical stimulus and the season of maximum trigger action. The subjective assessment of psychosocial functioning is most differentiated according to the GH domain of the SF-36 questionnaire. The greatest negative impact on the QoL indices is exerted by the cold and hypoosmotic AHR, the least – by the EIB. The assessment of QoL allows to get a full picture of the perception of the patient's health level at the moment and in the given conditions.

Information need not lead to attitude change, but attitude change is improbable without any input of information. T HE MASS COMMUNICATIONS medium considered in this study is television, more specifically prime time commercial television. The information studied was part of The National Citizenship Test, a program presented by CBS-TV, November 23, 1965. The National Citizenship Test, one of CBSTV's televised participation series, presented information concerning United States constitutional law. The format of the program consisted of short, dramatic scenes, providing a demonstration of activities that are specified by the United States Constitution as either lawful or unlawful (e.g. a speaker criticizing our government or a policeman entering the home of a suspect). After allowing a moment for the audience to consider each scene, the program narrator presented a description of the constitutional law appropriate to the activity or situation depicted. Interpretations of or attitudes toward constitutional law were not considered on the program, its content being concerned solely with providing information. While attitude modification was not intended, consideration of present theoretical orientations toward attitude formation and attitude change suggested that attitudes of viewers with initially opposing views might well be modified. One of the general theoretical orientations toward attitude change involves the structural, or what the Maccobys have called the homeostatic theories of behavior (e.g. Festinger's cognitive dissonance, Heider's balance theory, McGuire's rational-syllogistic formulation, Newcomb's strain toward symmetry, Osgood's congruity

Quality of life at work is a term which often has been used to define the wider job-related experience of an employee in his or her organisation, which involves the culture, overall working conditions, how an employee is interested to do their assigned work responsibilities, the involvement of an employee feels, the level of autonomy and responsibility they have with respect to their job. This article is related to study about the quality of work life of the employees working in MSME registered Plastic Industries at Odisha. Quality of Work Life effects the motivation level of the employees and as well as objectives of the organisation. Many researches have proved that good Quality of Work Life in an organisation make an employee’s enable them to be mentally and physically fit enough with constructive spirits which has great impact on the performance of employees. The objective of study is to see the existence of Quality of Work Life in Micro Small and Medium Enterprises, the complete survey and review undertaken of the employees engaged in plastic industries at Odisha. The QWL of employees is very vital for organisations to attract and retain employees in long run working. A better working environment in an organisation will lead to good Quality of Work Life which is immense benefit to both employees and as well as employers. The sample contains of 191 employees engaged in different MSME registered plastic Industries in Odisha. The list of MSME Plastic industries has been taken from District Industrial Centre and out of which some of the units were selected randomly. The questionnaire has been prepared on the basis of different parameter of QWL assessments and of earlier research. The basic objective of this research is to identify & understand about working environments, and the level of employee job satisfaction out of which the quality of work life of employees working in MSMEs.

Workplace culture or management style that encourages employee ownership, self-reliance, responsibility, and self-esteem is known as work-related quality of life (WRQoL). According to the report, companies that give their workers a higher quality of life at work are more profitable and have a better chance of keeping their key staff. This study aims to examine how the six WRQoL scale domains and their relationships affect industrial workers. A pilot study was conducted with 10 female participants at an industry located in Ahilyanagar. A sociodemographic based questionnaire and Work-related Quality of life questionnaire were used for the same. Among the six domains of WRQoL scale, stress at work (SAW) was associated with lower quality of life with Mean 4 ± 1.7. Whereas, GWB, CAW, WCS reported average quality of life. HWI and JCS has showed higher quality of life. Statistically significant positive correlations were found between General Well-Being (GWB) and Control at Work (CAW), GWB and Working Conditions (WCS), HWI and WCS, CAW and WCS. The findings reveal that while workers reported high satisfaction in their jobs and a good home-work balance, significant concerns remain, particularly in the domain of stress at work.

Quality of life is a complex concept, which includes physical and mental health, safety, financial stability and work-life balance. An organizational culture oriented towards prevention, respect and care for employees contributes directly to their well-being. Occupational safety and health (OSH) is a fundamental element of employee well-being and an essential factor for the sustainable development of any organization. A safe and healthy working environment contributes not only to protecting the life and health of workers, but also to increasing their productivity and quality of life. Despite legislative and technological advances, many sectors of activity still face challenges related to the effective application of OSH rules. Lack of resources, insufficient information or negligence can have serious consequences, both for the individual and the organization. OSH is not only a legal obligation, but also a moral responsibility of employers and employees. Implementing effective workplace protection measures helps prevent accidents and occupational diseases, thus reducing the economic and social costs associated with them.

Introduction: Although working is human's best recreation, due to adverse physical, social, and psychological stimuli, it has adverse effects on family relationships, marital satisfaction, and the quality of people's lives. This study aimed to investigate the factors affecting the quality of life and marital satisfaction of married nurses and nursing assistant in three teaching hospitals of Kerman University of Medical Sciences. Materials and Methods: Four hundred and forty-six married nurses and nursing assistant participated in this study. Participants were selected by simple random sampling, and data were collected with the World Health Organization Quality of Life Standard Questionnaire and Enrich Marital Satisfaction Scale. Data were analyzed using SPSS version 11 and the significance level was 0.05. Statistical single parameter and logistics tests were carried out to detect significant relationships. Results: Happy hours spent with family, working hospital, and belief in the negative effect of night shift work on personal, family, and social life were found to be effective parameters on four domains of life quality. Marital satisfaction and communication domain in the Enrich questionnaire were significantly correlated with total score of quality of life (P = 0.008). Idealistic distortion domain in the Enrich questioner was significantly correlated with the social domain of quality of life (P = 0.031). Conclusion: Organizational and administrative support, including training in the effective communication skills between couples, making balance between work and family and flexibility in shift work programs can improve the quality of life and marital satisfaction.

The present research aimed to analyze the main effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the quality of life at work of health professionals in Primary Health Care (PHC). The research consisted of an integrative literature review, using Google Scholar and Scielo to search for scientific articles on quality of life at work of PHC health professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic. Strict inclusion criteria were applied, resulting in the selection of a sample of three articles for detailed analysis. The studies present a comprehensive analysis of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the quality of work life and mental health of health workers, especially those on frontline and primary care. In addition to highlighting the social and labor dimension of the crisis triggered by the pandemic, the studies highlight the neglect of the care and respect needs of these professionals, who are often perceived only as caregivers. The lack of adequate social protection and exposure to the risk of contamination contributed to feelings of anguish and insecurity, aggravated by the intensification of occupational stress. Integrative and Complementary Health Practices (ICPs) have emerged as a relevant alternative for professionals' self-care and health promotion, highlighting the need for holistic approaches that consider both physical and mental health. The implementation of policies and strategies to prevent mental illness and promote the well-being of professionals is crucial, requiring a sensitive look at their experiences during the pandemic. In summary, the studies underline the importance of an integrated approach to address the impacts of the pandemic on the health of health workers and ensure that they are supported to face future challenges.

A Hybrid Heart Failure VAD Coordinator Model Decreases Burnout and Improves Work Quality of Life

The article is devoted to the study of the problem of professional burnout of logistics employees, which arises as a result of intensive work, high demands on productivity and stress resistance. This phenomenon causes emotional and physical exhaustion, decreased motivation, and work efficiency, which negatively affects the quality of service and overall productivity of the enterprise. Professional burnout is a serious problem, as it reduces the efficiency of employees, increases personnel costs and reduces loyalty to the company. The purpose of the article is to identify the main factors influencing the development of professional burnout in the logistics sector, as well as to develop diagnostic tools for assessing the level of its formation. The article analyses both individual and organisational factors contributing to burnout, including high performance requirements, information overload, low social support, and unstable working conditions. To assess professional burnout, the author presents a questionnaire covering four main levels: personal, professional, collective and organisational. Each level of the questionnaire allows you to assess various aspects of an employee's work performance and helps to identify factors that contribute to burnout. The personal level focuses on the employee's psycho-emotional characteristics, the professional level on workload and responsibility, the collective level on team interaction, and the organisational level on working conditions and support from management. The developed diagnostic tool facilitates the timely detection of burnout symptoms and helps to take measures to improve working conditions, reduce stress and support employees' psycho-emotional health. This is an important step towards improving the efficiency of logistics operations and reducing the risks associated with employee burnout.
