Smart Assistance for Disables using Bluetooth and Arduino

As smart building becomes increasingly popular, it enables many interesting applications, such as smart lock, elderly monitoring and remote healthcare.This paper will introduce one sub-system in the smart building: smart power system.This smart power system consists of an Android application, a cloud server and a smart socket.In addition, human-device interaction methods in this system are studied.

Purpose Housing adaptation enables the elderly and disabled people to live healthy, productive, independent, and dignified lives by making it easier to carry out everyday tasks in a safer environment. Assistive technology enables them to perform tasks that would otherwise be difficult or impossible to achieve independence. Therefore, the new guidance for local authorities in England on Disabled Facilities Grants (DFG) recommends assistive and smart technology as part of a DFG award package to maximise the benefits of home adaptations. Through a baseline study, this paper examines the disabled and elderly peoples’ level of digital engagement, the challenges and the impact of smart devices on their daily living and well-being. Design/methodology/approach A baseline study approach was used through the co-production of knowledge. The study relies on a questionnaire survey and the Most Significant Change (MSC) research technique through structured interviews. A percentage of the total approach is used in analysing the quantitative data by comparing the pre- and post-baseline results. Findings The major challenges the clients face are Wi-Fi connectivity, system compatibility issues, and skills in navigating different applications and operating systems. The pilot study demonstrates that assistive technology supports independent and healthy living and promotes a secure and safe environment. It also promotes social inclusion and improves the elderly and disabled people’s comfort and engagement. However, the results show that the overall impact is minimal; therefore, a longitudinal study is needed to understand the impacts over a long period. Practical implications The findings will help policymakers to understand the impacts of assistive technology on improving the elderly and disabled people’s quality of life. Originality/value A comparable baseline study was carried out to serve as a reference point for other similar future studies. The paper also highlights the challenges faced by the elderly and disabled people, their digital skill level and the impact of smart devices on their daily living and well-being.

This paper is focused on the speech recognition technology. In recent years, it was not possible to control our machineries through the help of voice commands. As the home automation is very popular nowadays. In this method, all home appliances are controlled by android phone through voice command. Keeping this automation in mind a wheelchair is also automated here by android phone through voice command. This special feature is added in traditional wheelchair to make especially abled persons independent. In this project, a small model of voice-controlled wheelchair is designed for especially abled persons. The wheelchair can be easily controlled by speech recognition module. It is very helpful for elderly people also who cannot walk well due to aging effect. Here wheelchair is trained with forward, backward, left, right, and stop commands. These voice commands are given by user via android application which transfers to microcontroller through Bluetooth module. The proliferation of personal artificial intelligence (AI) -assistant technologies with speech-based conversational AI interfaces is driving the exponential growth in the consumer Internet of Things (IoT) market. As these technologies are being applied to keyword spotting (KWS), automatic speech recognition (ASR), natural language processing (NLP), and text-to-speech (TTS) applications, it is of paramount importance that they provide uncompromising performance for context learning in long sequences, which is a key benefit of the attention mechanism, and that they work seamlessly in polyphonic environments. In this work, we present a 25-mm2 system-on-chip (SoC) in 16-nm FinFET technology, codenamed SM6, which executes end-to-end speech-enhancing attention-based ASR and NLP workloads. The SoC includes: 1) FlexASR, a highly reconfigurable NLP inference processor optimized for whole-model acceleration of bidirectional attention-based sequence-to-sequence (seq2seq) deep neural networks (DNNs); 2) a Markov random field source separation engine (MSSE), a probabilistic graphical model accelerator for unsupervised inference via Gibbs sampling, used for sound source separation; 3) a dual-core Arm Cortex A53 CPU cluster, which provides on-demand single Instruction/multiple data (SIMD) fast fourier transform (FFT) processing and performs various application logic (e.g., expectation–maximization (EM) algorithm and 8-bit floating-point (FP8) quantization); and 4) an always-ON M0 subsystem for audio detection and power management. Measurement results demonstrate the efficiency ranges of 2.6–7.8 TFLOPs/W and 4.33–17.6 Gsamples/s/W for FlexASR and MSSE, respectively; MSSE denoising performance allowing 6 <inline-formula xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"> <tex-math notation="LaTeX">$\times $ </tex-math></inline-formula> smaller ASR model to be stored on-chip with negligible accuracy loss; and 2.24-mJ energy consumption while achieving real-time throughput, end-to-end, and per-frame ASR latencies of 18 ms.

The Internet of Things (IoT) gives a strong structure for connecting things to the internet to facilitate Machine to Machine (M2M) communication and data transmission through basic network protocols such as TCP/IP. IoT is growing at a fast pace, and billions of devices are now associated, with the amount expected to reach trillions in the coming years. Many fields, including the army, farming, manufacturing, healthcare, robotics, and biotechnology, are adopting IoT for advanced solutions as technology advances. This paper offers a detailed view of the current IoT paradigm, specifically proposed for robots, namely the Internet of Robotic Things (IoRT). IoRT is a collection of various developments such as Cloud Computing, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning, and the (IoT). This paper also goes over architecture, which would be essential in the design of Multi-Role Robotic Systems for IoRT. Furthermore, includes systems underlying IoRT, as well as IoRT implementations. The paper provides the foundation for researchers to imagine the idea of IoRT and to look beyond the frame while designing and implementing IoRT-based robotic systems in real-world implementations.

Women safety is a big issue in even today’s modern world driven by advanced technologies. This function demonstrates an efficient women safety identification system using a GPS modem. The proposed women protection device aims to provide complete protection to women in the present scenarios. This device provides a safe and peaceful environment for women with handbag security and android application. This work aims to integrate the Internet of things (IOT) based women’s safety device with the device’s hardware linked in the handbag, Android application and Bluetooth connectivity in smartphone. After pressing the device key the Android Application identifies the location of the victim’s place via GPS and sends a message containing this location URL to the registered contact and also call on the first registered contact to help them in a dangerous situation and also send the alert message to the registered mobile number. location tracking information through SMS helps find out the victim’s current location quickly and can be saved securely.

&lt;p&gt;Automated speech recognition (ASR) is the process of using an algorithm or&lt;br /&gt;automated system to recognize and translate spoken words of a specific language. ASR has various applications in fields such as mobile speech recognition, the internet of things and human-machine interaction. Researchers have been working on issues related to ASR for more than 60 years. One of the many use cases of ASR is designing applications such as digit recognition that aid differently-abled individuals, children and elderly people. However, there is a lack of spoken language data in under-developed and low-resourced languages, which presents difficulties. Although this is not a pivotal issue for highly established languages like English, it has a significant impact on less commonly spoken languages. In this paper, we discuss the development of a Hindi-spoken dataset and benchmark spoken digit models using convolutional neural networks (CNNs). The dataset includes both native and non-native Hindi speakers. The models built using CNN exhibit 88.44%, 95.15%, and 89.41% for non-native, native, and combined speakers respectively.&lt;/p&gt;

Sign language recognition is an assistive technology that has garnered significant attention from researchers, particularly with respect to its potential benefits for individuals with hearing impairments. This paper proposes an effective technique for sign language recognition based on the Contourlet Transform (CT) and deep learning. The CT is employed in the pre-processing stage to reduce complexity and processing time, while deep learning is utilized to extract and classify sign language features. The proposed method was evaluated using two sign language databases: a direct feed database and an American sign language database. The experimental analysis demonstrated that the proposed method gives good results in processing time by more than 70% while maintaining high accuracy

The Internet of Things (IoT) has proven to be a predominantly potential candidate in these advancements. IoT supports infrastructure development in connecting a wide range of medical devices, sensors, and health practitioners in order to ensure the best medical treatment for patients in both cities and remote places. This has enabled the IoT to provide major support in medical application, giving rise to assisted healthcare facilities. The IoT ecosystem has a complicated architecture, with several components interacting and an evolving variety of applications for users. This is a comprehensive and interdependent system that involves real-time data analysis, interconnections of device, data transfers, and analysis. The IoT creates a connected ecosystem developed from several intelligent systems that integrates respondents with machines and allows for statistics decision making. A network of interconnected devices that perceive vital data related to medical conditions of patients in real time is referred to as the Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), a healthcare application of IoT technology. Sensors used for sensing real-time data related to monitoring temperature, blood pressure levels, heartbeat levels, specialized signal converters, and communication interfaces can be added to existing medical facilities to turn them into IoMT devices. IoMT can be used to create wearable devices, home-care and personal-care medical devices, and mobile healthcare apps, along with creating communication with medical specialists in a given area. The IoMT system’s challenges and ecosystem interface requirements are also a matter of concern considering the complexity of the systems. This study offers a comprehensive evaluation of the various domains of use of IoMT, as well as its future scope and challenges. Recent advances in sensor technology, networks, cloud storage and processing, mobility, and big data analytics have made it possible to create affordable smart medical devices and a connected healthcare environment.

Giorgos Sfikas also conducted a study Creating a Smart Room using an IoT approach, a study that explains the concept of building a Smart Room using Arduino and a Bluetooth module to control electronic equipment. In the end, the benefits that the researcher mentioned above serve to facilitate customers in accessing, utilizing facilities, and other things that can facilitate customers to travel and stay in an integrated place and hotel. The convenience that the researcher mentioned above is one form of improving the quality of tourism services.

With in a household, a home automation system automates the majority of electronic and electrical tasks. This uses a mix of hardware and software to control and manage appliances and devices inside a home. The fundamental purpose of tracking electronic devices in the modern world through the use of the Internet of Things (IoT) is to regulate them according to situational requirements. The need for efficient monitoring is greater with the advancement of technology as it optimizes efficiency and saves excessive power and resource wastage. Turning on lights during daytime can be avoided in this way. NodeMCU is very popular in Home Automation. It’s Wi-Fi features and support for Arduino IDE makes it easier for IoT Applications. Home appliances can be controlled using the Android Application which is Blynk App.

This research creates a system to control the On/Off electric socket using Android as a controller. The system uses a bluetooth connection as communication between the controller and the system. System application for 6 electrical sockets that can be controlled on / off. Sockets are used to supply electrical power from electrical equipment which can be in the form of lamps, fans, and so on with a maximum power of 2000 watts for each socket. The system uses the Arduino nano microcontroller as the system controller, the HC05 bluetooth module, the relay module and programming using the Arduino IDE (Integrated Development Environment), as well as applications on Android. Applications on Android use applications that are already available in PlayStore. Module testing consists of testing the Arduino Nano module, relay module, Bluetooth module, installing the Android application, and testing the entire system. Testing the Arduino Nano module using the Blink program to turn on and off the Arduino Nano onboard LED based on the delay given. Testing the relay module by giving high and low data, then seeing the reaction of the relay. Testing applications by installing on android. Testing the Bluetooth module by connecting the Arduino Nano module and using the Android application to connect to the system and turn it on and off based on the function of the application. The test results for each module went well. This test is to determine the characteristics of each module, useful for combining all modules into one system. Testing the system by combining the Bluetooth module, the Arduino Nano module, 6 relay modules and 6 sockets, a connection is made between the system and Android, then pressing the button function in the application to turn on the light on the socket. System testing works well, according to the initial design. This research made a prototype of the system in question to make it easier to understand the form of the overall system overview. Sistem menggunakan koneksi bluetooth sebagai komunikasi antara alat pengontrol dengan sistem. Aplikasi sistem untuk 6 buah stop kontak listrik yang dapat dikendalikan On/Off. Stop kontak digunakan untuk memenuhi daya listrik dari peralatan listrik yang dapat berupa lampu, kipas angin, dan sebagainya dengan maksimum daya 2000 watt untuk setiap stop kontak. Sistem menggunakan mikrokontroler Arduino nano sebagai pengendali sistem, modul bluetooth HC05, modul relay dan pemrograman dengan menggunakan arduino IDE (Integrated Development Environment), serta aplikasi pada android. Aplikasi pada android menggunakan aplikasi yang sudah tersedia di playstore. Pengujian modul terdiri dari pengujian modul arduino nano, modul relay, modul Bluetooth, install aplikasi android, dan pengujian sistem keseluruhan. Pengujian modul arduino nano dengan menggunakan program blink untuk menyalakan dan mematikan lampu led onboard arduino nano berdasarkan delay yang diberikan. Pengujian modul relay dengan diberikan data high dan low, kemudian melihat reaksi dari relay tersebut. Pengujian aplikasi dengan meng-install pada android. Pengujian modul Bluetooth dengan menghubungkan modul arduino nano serta menggunakan aplikasi android untuk melakukan koneksi dengan sistem serta menyalakan dan mematikan berdasarkan fungsi dari aplikasi. Hasil pengujian tiap modul berjalan dengan baik. Pengujian ini untuk mengetahui karakteristik tiap modul, berguna untuk penggabungan seluruh modul menjadi satu sistem. Pengujian sistem dengan menggabungkan modul Bluetooth, modul arduino nano, 6 buah modul relay serta 6 buah stop kontak, dilakukan koneksi antara sistem dan android, lalu ditekan fungsi button pada aplikasi untuk menyalakan lampu pada stop kontak. Sistem bekerja dengan baik, sesuai dengan rancangan awal. Penelitian ini dibuat purwarupa dari sistem yang dimaksud agar lebih mudah untuk dimengerti bentuk gambaran sistem secara keseluruhan

Controlling the electronic devices through the Internet of Things (IoT) interfaces is essential in our mundane life. By observing the important parameters, controlling of the system can be performed which produces important pieces of information by keeping in mind the functioning of these e-devices. The outcomes of the environmental observances are associated with this scrutiny. The collected information can be used to create actions such as heating of devices, dominant cooling, or long-term statistics. Through the help of network or any other android application, data can be uploaded on the cloud. In the present study, Arduino UNO and Wi-Fi modules are used to process and transfer the sensed data to the Thingspeak cloud. Thus, the cloud platform (Thingspeak) contains the parameters that are received. Any variation in the surroundings is reported in the form of a database through the cloud computing method.
