Abstract

Continuing our previous investigations on quantitative uniform boundedness and condensation principles, the present paper is concerned with some negative results in connection with Marchaud — type inequalities. The existence of the relevant counterexamples follows by means of a general theorem, given in terms of bounded, sublinear functionals on Banach spaces. The method of proof essentially consists in a quantitative version of the familiar gliding hump method. Emphasis is laid upon the treatment of some significant applications, illustrating the usefulness of the abstract approach.
