Abstract

Summary form only given, as follows. The complete presentation was not made available for publication as part of the conference proceedings. Light detection and ranging (LiDAR) is considered as an essential part of the sensor package for applications Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM). At the same time, Single-Photon Avalanche Diode (SPAD) is a very attractive choice as photon detectors in LiDAR due to its high sensitivity. LiDAR often needs to meet stringent performance demands and work in adversary environments; therefore, advanced signal processing techniques are needed to overcome those difficulties. It is potentially very helpful if LiDAR signal processing can take into considerations of physical properties of LiDAR and its operating environments. In this talk, several specific physical properties associated with SPAD LiDAR are described, and ways of exploiting them for enhancing performance are explained. Preliminary simulation and/or experiment results are also provided to illustrate the potentials of these approaches.
