Spaeris: A Multi-Agent System Specified by Agent UML

Security has become an important concern with the development of large scale distributed and heterogeneous multi-agent systems (MAS). One of the main problems in addressing security during the development of MAS is that security is often an afterthought. The cost involved to patch existing systems against vulnerabilities and attacks after deployment is high. If developers and designers can spend some quality time investigating security aspects before beginning to code then this cost can be reduced significantly. Also, using formal methods to specify the complex behavior of large scale software systems has resulted in reliable software systems. This research effort was focused on using formal methods early in the development lifecycle to specify security requirements for MAS. New solutions are emerging to fix security related issues, but how much thought gets in during the early phases of development in terms of security needs to be answered. In this paper, analysis of security requirements for MAS, existing solutions to secure MAS, and the use of formal methods to specify security requirements has been studied. Descartes-Agent, a formal specification language for specifying agent systems has been taken into study to model the security requirements of MAS early on in the development process. Functional specifications of MAS are modelled along with the non-functional security requirements using the Descartes-Agent specification language. This paper also describes the extensions made to the Agent Unified Modeling Language (AUML) to represent the security requirements of MAS. The extensions proposed to AUML are in accordance with the extensions made to the Descartes-Agent specification language. A case study example is used to illustrate the specification of security requirements in MAS using the Descartes-Agent.

As Herbert Simon (1946) pointed out decades ago, some ideas are so powerful that they become uncritically absorbed into the theory and practice of public management. cybernetic theory of information for control is just such a powerful idea (Deutsch, Markovits, and Platt, 1986), and nowhere is this idea more obvious than with information and management control systems (Stout, 1980). A great deal of intellectual and financial resources have been invested in the creation and maintenance of management information systems, nearly all of it grounded in the Principle that information increases management control. Yet, the basic cybernetic principle of information increasing control remains largely unproven and certainly problematic in public management. In this research, we ask the question, Do management information systems lead to greater management control? presumption of information for control is as pervasive in our personal lives as it is in public management. For example, we presume that more and more information about our checking accounts such as the average daily balance on a detailed bank statement, the last three checks to dear as told by a touch-tone teller, or the available balance as reported by the automatic teller helps us to control expenditures, prevent overdrafts, and balance the budget at home. Right? same presumption is true in public management and particularly in project management of large contracts, which is the focus of this research. Public management theorists and practitioners presume that the more and better the information on project cost, schedule, and quality in their computer systems, the greater the project control and the less the actual performance variances (Cleland, 1990; Steiss, 1982). Our research tests the information for control proposition by looking at the management information systems of a random sample of 99 U.S. Air Force defense projects. [TABULAR DATA 1 OMITTED] Information for Control Information is what is communicated about a particular event or situation. Information theory has three strong and persistent assertions: (1) information decreases uncertainty, (2) information slows entropy, and (3) information increases system control (Weiner, 1948; Yates, 1989). Control is the managerial process of decreasing or dampening variance in a system (Anthony, 1965). Just like the quintessential cybernetic thermostat, the process of information increasing control in organizations is presumed to be a natural process of information feedback and deviation correction (Beniger, 1986). Feldman and March (1981) label the cybernetic or engineering approach to information in organizations as the signal hypothesis--the direct, systematic application of information for organizational control. A great deal of management practice and literature continues to enthusiastically support the signal hypothesis. Organization and decision theorists consider information as a prerequisite for control and rational decision making (Lord and Maher, 1990; Steinbruner, 1974). Nowhere is the cybernetic optimism more exuberant, however, than in the design of management information systems for organizations (Senn, 1982). cybernetic model is not only pervasive but has hardly changed since its inception. Yet, experts now caution that, The more the MIS paradigm relies on the cybernetic model, the more it weakens its own legitimacy (LeMoigne and Sibley, 1986, p. 241). Increasingly, practical experience and grounded research are finding the connection between information and control to be less certain. On the cover of a National Academy of Public Administration report (1983) is the picture of Gulliver tied to the beach by hundreds of tiny Lilliputians. picture and the report vividly present the problem of federal managers tied down by their own management control systems. Other research finds that information can have dysfunctional uses such as misrepresentation (Lawler and Rhode, 1976), and rational expectations of using information for decisions is both limited and apparently unordered (Simon, 1957; March, 1988). …

The paper studies the relationship between information technology (IT), time personality and managerial productivity. Time personality is captured by concepts of polychronicity and monochronicity. They reflect an individual’s preference for being engaged in either many (polychronicity) or one (monochronicity) activity at a time block. The concepts of time personality, poly- and monochronicity are represented by a set of the temporal dimensions. In this paper we present a descriptive study in a form of survey, in which the temporal dimensions serve as mediators between IT and productivity. Analysis of the data shows the positive nature of the relationships between IT and productivity within the frames of the research design. We outlined some ideas on how personality issues can be addressed in the design of management information systems (MIS) so that a temporal symmetry between the manager’s preferences to poly-/monochronic behavior and IT capabilities could be reached.

The objective of this work is to develop and experimentally implement the concept of an information system (IS) for precision farming, providing for the collection, processing, analysis and visualization of data on the state of the soil, plants and the environment. Such an IS facilitates informed decision-making on crop management, optimization of resource use and creation of a basis for integration with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, which ultimately leads to increased efficiency and sustainability of agricultural production. The information and analytical basis of the presented study covers a set of international standards regulating the processes of development and implementation of ICT projects, specialized publications and monographs devoted to the design of management IS and precision farm-ing, as well as empirical material obtained on the basis of the practical experience of organizations. Methodological approaches include a substantive analysis of literary sources, a comparative analysis of known IS formation methods, a study of the internal structure of technological processes and tools of agricultural enterprises, as well as modern statistical methods. The result was the creation of an IS concept designed for agricultural enterprises with an emphasis on precision farming. This system is designed for complex processing, detailed study and graphic presentation of information on the state of the soil cover, growth of agricultural crops and environmental factors. Testing of the pilot version of the IS at an agricultural enterprise showed that its use helps to increase crop yields and reduce fertilizer costs. Such an IS can be used as a basis for creating a digital agricultural enterprise, and the research results can be used to develop regulatory and reference documentation for the implementation of digital technologies for precision farming.

The Hospital Nursing Management Information System is very important in supporting operations, management and decision making. The management information system in hospitals is strengthened by Regulation of the Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia number 82 of 2013 concerning hospital management information systems. Decision making must be based on data and information entered in a valid information system. This study aims to determine the implementation of information systems at Sari Mutiara Hospital Lubuk Pakam. This study used qualitative analysis and interviewed users of hospital information system services consisting of 1 person in charge of providing information and handling hospital complaints, 1 non-medical officer, three executors and ten information users (patients). . The results of the study show that the benefits of a data-integrated and standardized information system with Ina-CBgs coding are very much needed in decision making. The results show that it is necessary to improve the facilities and infrastructure that support a stable internet network and the implementation and monitoring of evaluation of complaints from hospital information system administrators.

Industry 4.0 develops in Indonesia and the Covid-19 Pandemic, all business process activities are required to be able to adapt by digizing service. For SDN Babadan 01 itself, the business process is still using the old method which requires all processes to be carried out directly face to face such as registration of new students and is not yet effective. Therefore the design of Management and Academic Information System is needed to support the business processes that are carried out. With the creation of a Management Information System and Academic Information System, it is hoped that it can help facilitate all academic and non-academic matters at SDN Babadan 01. For data collection , interviews and literature studies were used. This study uses the Zachman Framework which consist of 6 columns and 6 rows. Based on the research that has been done, the design of SIAKAD and SIM at SDN Babadan 01 has resulted. This design can be used as a reference for application developers.

This chapter is concerned with methodological issues. In particular, it addresses the question of how is it possible to align the design of management information systems with the structure of an organization. The method proposed is built upon the Cybersin method developed by Stafford Beer (1975) and Raul Espejo (1992). The chapter shows a way to intersect three complementary organizational fields: management information systems, management control systems, and organizational learning when studied from a systemic perspective; in this case from the point of view of management cybernetics (Beer 1959, 1979, 1981, 1985).

International sports mega-events are complex organizational undertakings requiring sophisticated information systems (IS) for governance, yet research examining IS implementation in this context remains fragmented. This systematic review synthesizes evidence on IS deployment in sports governance during mega-events to identify core technologies and inform future event planning. The literature search was carried out on Scopus, Web of science, and curated databases that included the studies published between 2005 and 2025. Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, two-stage screening identified 28 studies from 129 initial records. Five major IS categories emerged: Analytics & Data Management Systems; Management Information Systems (MIS); Knowledge Management Systems; Governance and Planning Platforms; and Wearables and Monitoring Technologies. Important conclusions are that digital transformation can lead to more operational efficiency in four studies, multi-level governance coordination may also be better, knowledge transfer barriers are persistent despite the implementation of an information system, data protection systems are also underdeveloped, and stakeholder engagement platforms become more critical. Developing nations hosting mega-events require targeted capacity-development support for IS implementation. This first systematic review bridging information systems and sports management literature provides evidence-based guidance for future event governance.
