Study of Visible Light Communication

Abstract

Visible light communication (VLC) is a revolutionary wireless communication paradigm that has the potential to revolutionize the industry. VLC transmits information by modifying the visible light spectrum (400-700 nm) that is utilized for lighting. VLC's ability to enable high-speed data connection with enhanced energy economy and communication security/privacy has been demonstrated via analytical and experimental studies. VLC is currently in its early stages of development. There have been several review papers and books written on this subject, with the majority of them focusing on physical layer research. This paper provides a VLC system perspective as well as possible VLC applications and integration problems.
