Principals of design and evaluation of an information system for a department of respiratory medicine.
To evaluate a departmental computer system. a. Direct comparison of the time taken to use a manual system with the time taken to use a computer system for lung function evaluation, loan of equipment and production of correspondence. b. Analysis of the accuracy of data capture before and after the introduction of the computer system. c. Analysis of the comparative running costs of the manual and computer systems. Within a department of respiratory medicine serving a hospital of 1323 beds. a. Time taken to perform functions with the assistance of computerised methods, in comparison to the manual method used alone. b. Accuracy of data capture. c. Relative running costs. a. The computer system (CS) was significantly faster than the manual system (MS) for lung function evaluation (CS = 7.63 min/test, MS = 12.25 min/test), loan of equipment (CS = 0.40 min/loan, MS = 2.07 min/loan), and checking for overdue equipment (CS = 0.49 s/record, MS = 9 s/record). The production of correspondence was slightly slower with the computer (CS = 9.30 min/letter, MS = 8.54 min/letter). b. All outpatient episodes, but only 43 of 65 (66%) of in-patient episodes, were captured. Lung function and managerial report data were accurate using both manual and computerised methods. The manual system for equipment loans was inefficient, and use of the computer resulted in the recovery of 221 nebulisers. c. Development costs for 1988-1990 were high (72,178 pounds). Only 1200 pounds to 1845 pounds per year was recovered directly from staff time saved by the computer but larger savings resulted from changes in work practice (4049-4765 pounds). After 10 years the projected deficit is 10,000 pounds per annum in running costs. In comparison with the manual methods, the computer system has shown significant advantages which provide accurate information, with significant favourable effects on working practices. In evaluating computer systems used in clinical practice it is essential to ensure that the projected work practice benefits are achieved without unacceptable costs in staff time, inaccurate data and high financial outlay.

Economic feasibility study of an automation migration in case of a coal handling plant
The Economic feasibility is very important factor in any decision making related to a new project. This paper tries to high light the case in which economic feasibility is studied before switching over to an automated system from a manual system i.e. Automation Migration in case of a process industry. The main aim here is to shift from manual system to automated system for a coal handling plant (CHP) in a thermal power plant of the company. A thorough economic analysis is carried out for three recent years for the existing manual system & investment on new system is studied. Comparison for both the manual system & automated system is carried out in terms of operating cost & fixed cost. It is very clearly found out that it is enough advantageous to migrate from manual system to automated system. Many other factors are also responsible for this migration other than the economic considerations. Ex: human health and safety issues, labor issues, reliability, railway norms etc.
Read moreTiming Strategies for Feasibility Studies in Information Systems Development
The feasibility study has been prescribed and described as an important step in information system development. One of the key issues pertaining to the feasibility study is its time of preparation and presentation during the system development life cycle. Systems analysis and design texts suggest different timings for its preparation and presentation; informal survey of forty seven organizations reveals that the feasibility studies are not being performed on a formal basis and that the timings used by them are different from the ones recommended by texts; and finally results from our quasiexperimental study indicate that there is a divergence of views among analysts and users regarding the appropriate feasibility study timings. Based on our results, three alternate strategies are recommended for conducting feasibility studies, and a contingency model is proposed for strategy selection.

Yayasan Panti Asuahan Hrapan Karomah is a social institution or non-profit institution that has the responsibility to provide social welfare services to the children of the residents of the orphanage. Therefore, the manager of the orphanage must be able to manage the orphanage properly, one of which is in terms of financial management. Currently, the Harapan Karamah orphanage is in the process of recording both revenues and expenses using a manual system. A manual system causes many errors of risks. Therefore, to minimize the risks that exist and also facilitate the financial management of the orphanage, a computerized information system is needed. In addition, it can also make it easier for the manager of the orphanage and also donors to monitor and evaluate the orphanage's finances which can be accessed quickly and at any time. This study aims to create a website-based financial administration information system. The software development method used is the Waterfall method which includes requirements analysis, system design, implementation, testing, and system maintenance. The development of this system uses the PHP programming language, MySQL database, and the CodeIgniter framework. The result of this research is an information system that can be used to process data and financial data reports. Based on the test results, the system being developed can run according to its function.

Efficient stock and sales management is essential for the smooth operation of grocery stores. However, many grocery stores still use a manual system, which is prone to errors and delays in updating information. This research aims to design and implement a web-based stock and sales management information system for grocery stores, to assist owners and employees in managing stock of goods, recording sales transactions, and monitoring reports in real-time. The system is built using web technology, which allows for easy and quick access from various devices such as computers and mobile phones. With this system, store owners can more easily monitor stock conditions, manage sales, and minimize recording errors that often occur in manual systems. The implementation results show that this system improves the efficiency of stock and sales management, and produces accurate and timely reports. In addition, this web-based system also allows store owners to monitor data and make business decisions more effectively, even remotely. Thus, this information system has the potential to improve the operational performance of grocery stores and support better decision-making.

This research was conducted to analyze and create an attendance and payroll information system program for CV Luna. In carrying out its operational activities, especially in employee attendance data and payroll processing, a manual system is currently being used, leading to frequent errors. The manual system in place at CV Luna has weaknesses, including the lengthy time required for payroll calculations due to poorly recorded attendance data and the risk of errors in salary calculations that could benefit or harm one of the parties involved. From these issues, the idea of creating a web-based information system emerged, which can automate employee attendance and payroll management. In the system design, the research used the waterfall method and employed the PHP Codeigniter Framework. There are two users who can access this system: employees and the finance department. Employees can only record their attendance, while the finance department can access attendance summaries, salary reports, and payslips. This computerized system makes it easier for employees to record their attendance and for the finance department to generate employee salary reports.
