Teacher’s Knowledges in Teaching Speaking through Merdeka Mengajar Platform: Challenges

The research aims to investigate the English teacher's challenges in teaching speaking through the online platform when the preparing lesson plan, while the teaching performing, and when the evaluating. This research employed a mixed-method sequential explanatory strategy to reveal the data-oriented to the aforementioned focuses. Fifty-two English teachers engaged as the correspondent of the questionnaire while thirteen English teachers were selected as the participant in the interview. They were selected based on the purposive sampling technique and taken from Senior High Schools in Indragiri Hulu Regency. To gather the data, the questionnaire and interview were deployed and were further analyzed by using the interactive model data analysis. The findings demonstrate that the majority of English teachers had a negative category in teaching speaking through online platforms with an average of total score 122. The challenges when preparing the lesson plan covered four aspects: prepare teaching materials, activity, media, and prepare evaluation materials. Subsequently, the challenges when preparing the lesson plan are the teachers should have not prepared online-based learning media, searched for online speaking topics, and searched for additional teaching materials. Moreover, the lack of internet quota and connection made the students got difficulty joining classes online. In turn, while the teaching performance is teachers difficulty in coping with students' behavior, difficulty in motivating students, and giving example topics on speaking online. Furthermore, in evaluating the teacher's challenges difficulty in assessing student assignments because at the time of online learning students there were only a few students who responded to the teacher. Further studies are expected to seek possible solutions regarding the challenges faced by the teachers in teaching speaking online.

This study aims to find out the kinds of the strategies used by English teachers in teaching speaking. From these statement, the researcher analyzed the strategies used by English teacher in teaching speaking at Mts Nurul Falah. The objectives of this research were: to elaborate the strategies used by English teacher in teaching speaking at MTs Nurul Falah Air Mesu Timur and to elaborate the implementation in teaching speaking at MTs Nurul Falah Air Mesu Timur. The researcher used descriptive qualitative method and data collection was based on observation and interview. Miles and Huberman technique of analyzing data was used by having data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. The researcher collected data was used to observe the process of how the strategies used by English teacher in teaching speaking in class, the interview was used to support the results of the observation checklist. Therefore, this research used triangulation technique method. The findings of this research showed that the teachers applied many strategies to teaching speaking in the classroom, which are roleplay, drilling, discussion, picture describing, storytelling, brainstorming, and creative tasks.

<p>The study investigated the relationship between headteachers’ administrative duties and teacher job performance in public Junior High Schools at Agona Swedru in the Agona West Municipality of the Central Region of Ghana. This study adopted the quantitative correlational research design. Teachers in all public Junior High Schools at Agona Swedru in the Central Region of Ghana, formed the target population, while the accessible population covered all teachers in public Junior High Schools at Agona Swedru who had spent at least a year in their respective schools. Simple random sampling technique was used to obtain 70 teachers whose responses to items in closed-ended questionnaire were used for the analysis for this study. One significant finding was that the headteachers performed all the administrative duties outlined in the study even though they predominantly performed the duty of school-community relationship. Generally, the performance of the teachers was very good with discipline and punctuality recording the highest mean. Again, a strong positive and significant relationship between administrative duties of headteachers and teacher job performance was established. Among the recommendations is that the Education Directorate in the Agona West Municipality should organise in-service training for headteachers of public Junior High Schools at Agona Swedru to enable them to improve on their administrative duties to influence teacher job performance. </p><p> </p><p><strong> Article visualizations:</strong></p><p><img src="/-counters-/edu_01/0973/a.php" alt="Hit counter" /></p>

The cause of the low activity of the students in learning Physics in Public Junior High School in Padang,due to the students feel that Physics is not an interesting subject and unrelated to the real world application. These factors have impacts towards the student’s learning activities in Physics, their achievement in Physics, and the student’s learning quality in Physics. One solution to overcome these problems is by applying the Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL)–Lesson Study–Based Approach. This research aims at elaborating the CTL–Lesson Study–Based Approach to enhance the student’s learning activity in Physics, and the student’s achievement in Physics, either the students have low, medium or high intelligence level. This type of research is a combined quantitative and qualitative. This research took place in public junior high schools in Padang on first semester of academic year 2009/2010. The samples for this research were the students in class VII-4 at SMPN 17 Padang, students in class VII-5 at SMPN 7 Padang and students in class VII-B at SMPN 8 Padang. The data were collected through observation, interview, questionnaire and video recording by some observers during the learning process takes place as well as through examination given to the students. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative and qualitative. The result of data analysis indicates that the implementation of the CTL–Lesson Study–Based Approach can improve the student’s learning activity in Physics, and the student’s achievement toward Physics for the case of school with students with low and moderate intelligence level. While in the school where the student’s intelligence level is high, the improvements occur only on the student’s achievement in Physics. It can be concluded that the CTL–Lesson Study–Based Approach can improve the student’s learning activities in Physics, and also the student’s achievement in Physics. There are three objectives of this research. First, it describes what forms of expressive speech acts are used by Indonesian language teachers in the process of learning official letters and personal letters in class VII of SMP Negeri 2 Suliki, Lima Puluh Kota Regency. Second, it describes the Indonesian teacher's speaking strategies in the process of learning official letters and personal letters in class VII of Suliki 2 Public Middle School, Fifty City District. This type of research is a qualitative research with descriptive method. The data in this study were sentences in the form and expressive speech act strategies of the Indonesian language teacher for grade VII SMP Negeri 2 Suliki, Fifty Cities Regency, in the learning process. The data source for this research is all the utterances of one Indonesian language teacher during the teaching and learning process from the beginning to the end of the lesson. The results of this study are twofold. First, there are five forms of expressive speech acts for teachers in learning official letters and personal letters in class VII SMP Negeri 2 Suliki, Fifty Cities District, (1) expressive speech acts of praising, (2) expressive speech acts of saying thank you, (3) expressive speech acts expressive speech act of criticizing, (4) expressive speech act of blaming, and (5) expressive speech act of apologizing. Second, the teacher's speaking strategy in learning official letters and personal letters in class VII of SMP Negeri 2 Suliki, Fifty Cities Regency, there are four, (1) a strategy of speaking frankly without preamble, (2) a strategy of speaking frankly with positive politeness, (3) the strategy of speaking frankly with negative politeness, and (4) the strategy of speaking vaguely.

English as a Foreign Language (EFL) education in Indonesia has grown in importance as a result of the global demand for English competence. Reading comprehension in junior high school is an important part of language development and academic accomplishment. This qualitative case study looks into the use of the Genre-Based Approach (GBA) in reading instruction at a public junior high school in Karawang, Indonesia. The study investigates how GBA helps students grasp different text genres and how teachers adjust this technique to meet classroom demands. Data were gathered through classroom observations in a Grade VII English class, as well as semi-structured interviews with one English teacher. Thematic analysis was performed to discover repeating patterns and contextual elements that affect GBA implementation. Findings show that teachers possess a solid understanding of GBA stages and apply them using curriculum-aligned materials such as English for Nusantara text book. The approach enhances students’ comprehension of text structure, communicative purpose, and critical thinking. However, challenges remain, including limited instructional time, varied student proficiency, and appropriate text selection.

The principal plays a strategic role as a leader responsible for directing all school resources. This study aims to determine the influence of visionary leadership, organizational culture, and work motivation on teacher performance, both partially and simultaneously. This research employs a quantitative ex-post facto approach with a causal correlational design. The sampling technique uses cluster sampling, resulting in the selection of three public junior high schools in Cisauk District with a total of 107 teachers. The pilot test aims to determine validity using the Pearson product-moment correlation and the reliability of the instrument. Data collection was conducted through a survey using questionnaires. The data analysis technique uses multiple linear regression analysis, which was preceded by prerequisite tests. The results show that partially, visionary leadership has a significant effect on teacher performance (t-value = 11.110 > t-table = 1.983, Sig. 0.000 < 0.05), organizational culture has a significant effect on teacher performance (t-value = 6.629 > t-table = 1.983, Sig. 0.000 < 0.05), and work motivation has a significant effect on teacher performance (t-value = 9.730 > t-table = 1.983, Sig. 0.000 < 0.05). Simultaneously, visionary leadership, organizational culture, and work motivation significantly influence teacher performance in public junior high schools in Cisauk District, Tangerang Regency (F-value = 222.191 > F-table = 2.696, Sig. 0.000 < 0.05). Therefore, the improvement of teacher performance is not influenced by a single factor alone but is jointly affected by visionary school leadership, a conducive organizational culture, and high teacher work motivation.

Teaching EFL to public junior high school students in a district where the local people speak a regional language with a dialect different from the regional language taught at school is challenging for teachers who apply translingual practice. This study aims to reveal the students' attitudes toward their translingual practice and their teacher’s translingual practice in EFL learning. This qualitative study involved 30 students in Grade 7 of a public junior high school in Brebes District. The data were collected by using questionnaires and interviews. The result shows that the students express a positive attitude towards the teacher’s and their peers’ use of the national language since it is considered polite and proper to be used as the school subject’s delivery language. However, the students show a negative attitude towards the teacher’s use of the regional language with the local dialect as it is considered impolite or improper to be used in a class, and they show a negative attitude towards their peer’s use of full English during the lesson because they felt that they had not mastered English yet. The teacher should carefully select the languages involved in a translingual practice to build the students’ positive attitudes. How they used their preferred languages during English lessons should be further observed to see how it helped them to learn EFL.

Teachers’ performance determines the quality of educational system. Education will be qualified when teachers are referred to the organized vision, mission, purpose, and goal in order to respond to various changes by generating all potential resources in educational institution. Teachers’ work satisfaction is one of the important aspects which have to be heeded by management in order to increase teachers’ quality of performance. When work satisfaction is fulfilled, teachers will tend to have high morale in doing their job. The objective of this research was to find out and to analyze the influence of certification allowance, work satisfaction and its effect on teachers’ performance at public junior high schools in Meureubo Subdistrict, West Aceh Regency. Work satisfaction had positive and significant influence on teachers’ performance at public junior high schools in Meureubo Subdistrict, West Aceh Regency. This study aims to determine the availability of physical education, sports and health facilities and infrastructure in public junior high schools throughout Rejang Lebong Regency in Bengkulu. This research is a survey research. The population in this study is all public junior high schools in Rejang Lebong Regency in Bengkulu in 2021, totaling 46 schools. The sample technique of this study with Purposive Sampling is 10 schools that can be reached by school distance, schools can be observed during a pandemic and organize PJOK learning. Data collection techniques through observation. This research instrument uses observation sheets. This research analysis technique uses frequency analysis in the form of percentages. The results of the study can be concluded that the available facilities are 31 types and there are 2 types that are not available, namely softball and softball bats. There is no availability of softballs and softball bats in all schools. Of the availability of these facilities, 97.93% are in good condition and 2.07% are in damaged condition. All facilities owned belong to the school. The tools available are 14 types and there are 4 types that are not yet available, namely jumping horses, single bars, parallel bars and multilevel bars. The unavailability of jumping horses, single bars, parallel bars and terraced bars occurred throughout the school. The availability of these tools has a good standard condition of 96.5%, a good condition of modification of 1.2% and a major damaged condition of 2.3%. Of all the tools available are proprietary. The facilities available are 7 types and there are 4 types that are not yet available in schools. The existing facilities are in good condition by 97.93% and 2.07% are in damaged condition. All facilities available are the property of the school.

Innovative work behavior is important for organizational success, influenced by leadership, engagement, and creativity. Principals lead by creating an innovative climate, leveraging technology, and encouraging student ideas. Employee innovative behavior is key to driving organizational innovation. Research shows that factors such as self-efficacy, empowering leadership, and well-being play an important role in enhancing innovative behavior, which in turn can improve the quality of education and the work environment. This study examines the effect of empowering leadership on teacher innovation, highlighting the mediating role of self-efficacy and its interaction with well-being. This study uses a quantitative approach with a moderated survey design. The sample in this study consisted of 165 respondents, namely certified civil servant teachers at public junior high schools throughout Kediri Regency, taken using the Slovin method with a margin of error of 0.075. The research procedure includes testing data quality through validity and reliability using Smart PLS. Validity is tested with Pearson Correlation (>0.138) and reliability with Cronbach Alpha (>0.400). Convergent validity and AVE are also tested to ensure the measuring instrument is effective. Discriminant validity, inner model, and hypothesis testing using T-table (>1.96) are important steps. The results are expected to provide in-depth insights into teaching innovation and recommendations to improve the motivation and teaching practices of civil servant teachers in public junior high schools. This study aims to create a productive and innovative learning atmosphere. This study shows that Empowering Leadership (X2) has no significant effect on Innovative Work Behavior (Y) with Original Sample (O) = -0.037, T = 1.014, and P = 0.311. In contrast, Work Self-Efficacy (X1) shows a strong positive effect with O = 0.593, T = 9.233, and P = 0.000. The interaction between Empowering Leadership (X2) and Wellbeing (M) is not significant (O = 0.011, T = 0.386, P = 0.700), and the direct impact of Wellbeing (M) on innovation is also not visible (O = 0.020, T = 0.576, P = 0.565). However, Work Self-Efficacy (X1) significantly affects Innovative Work Behavior (Y) with a value of O = 0.964, T = 52.013, and P = 0.000. The interaction between Work Self-Efficacy (X1) and Wellbeing (M) is also not significant (O = 0.015, T = 0.606, P = 0.545). The mediation path shows that Work Self-Efficacy (X1) significantly mediates the relationship between Empowering Leadership (X2) and Innovative Work Behavior (Y) with a value of O = 0.571, T = 8.746, and P = 0.000. This study suggests the development of Work Self-Efficacy among civil servant teachers of junior high schools in Kediri Regency to improve innovation.

Background: The effectiveness of physical education in schools is strongly tied to the adequacy of sports facilities. However, limited resources in many Indonesian junior high schools often restrict learning opportunities, pushing teachers to adapt through creative practices. Aims: This study investigates the current state of sports facilities in public junior high schools and examines how their availability and condition influence the delivery of physical education. Methods: Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were gathered from five public junior high schools in Purbalingga, Central Java. Information was collected through document analysis, direct observation, and teacher questionnaires. Both numerical data on the adequacy of facilities and descriptive accounts of teacher-driven modifications were analyzed to provide a comprehensive view. Results: Overall, the schools possessed facilities that could be categorized as moderately sufficient to support instruction. Certain equipment aligned with expected standards, while others were lacking in quality and quantity. Teachers compensated for these shortcomings by creating modified tools—such as bamboo hurdles, cloth bundles as shot puts, or improvised relay batons—which proved effective in sustaining student participation and meeting instructional goals despite spatial and material constraints. Conclusion: Adequate facilities remain an essential foundation for quality physical education, yet teacher ingenuity can mitigate some of the challenges posed by limited infrastructure. Supporting both the provision of proper facilities and the development of teacher creativity is vital to strengthening physical education in Indonesian junior high schools.

This study aims to analyze the level of junior high school students' knowledge of the Nature of Science (NOS) based on school type (public and Islamic junior high schools) and gender. This study is a descriptive quantitative research involving 180 students with details of 81 students from public junior high schools and 99 students from Islamic junior high schools determined by random sampling technique. The sample consisted of 104 female students and 76 male students. The research data were collected using an instrument in the form of a questionnaire that has been tested for validity and reliability based on a Likert scale developed based on NOS aspects. The results showed that (1) there was a significant difference in the understanding of NOS between students of public and Islamic junior high schools, where students of public junior high schools had a higher level of understanding (good category) than students of Islamic junior high schools (moderate category); (2) there was no significant difference in the understanding of NOS based on gender.

Vi sualization support is a conceptual framework.Based on the graphic way, it can intuitively and structurally present the relationship of different knowledge.At present, the visual teaching tools have been widely used in various fields.It also played an important role in English teaching.Hoping to apply this knowledge visualization teaching tools into daily English teaching can let us produce unexpected results.

Student behaviors are the nature of actions possessed by students which are influenced by customs, attitudes, emotions, values, ethics, power, persuasion, and genetics. Student behaviors are grouped into reasonable behaviors, acceptable behaviors, strange behaviors, and deviant behaviors. However, what has been portrayed today in both international and local media is that there are many deviations in the student behaviors especially at the junior high school level. Therefore, the present study aimed to investigate the types of student behaviors in the learning process at school, the procedures in developing the student behaviors within the Islamic religious education learning process, and the obstacles in developing the student behaviors within the Islamic religious education learning process. The study took place at two public junior high schools, SMP Islam Darul Ulum Banda Aceh and SMP Inshafuddin Banda Aceh. The study used a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The results of the study showed that the types of student behaviors in the learning process varied greatly. There were students who were passive and those who were active. In terms of the porcedures, is done by analyzing the needs of students. Further, the obstacles in developing the student behaviors included the lack of attention from the parents/guardians regarding changes in the student behaviors and the lack of communication between the teachers, the parents/guardians, and the Islamic education teachers.
