Teaching Reading Narrative Text Using Story Face in Vocational High School

The purpose of this study was to find out the effectiveness of using songs to increase students’ listening ability in the second grade of students at the MTS Pembangunan Nasional Lubuk Pakam. The method in this research was a quasi-expeimental study, The study was carried out into two classes of research, namely experimental class and control class. The sample of this study consists of 20 students’ from VIII A class in the experimental group and 20 students’ from VIII B class in controolled group. In this study the expeimental class was taught with conventional way,The instrument used in this study was pre-test and post-test. The technique used to collect the data was quantitative with t-test. The result of this study showed that the use of media songs is effective to increase students’ listening ability. It can be seen from the result of calculation that the students’ score in experimental class was higher than control class. Bassed on stastistical calculation with the significance lavel 5%, it showed that t observation (to = 1.896) is higher than t table (tt = 1.686). it meansthere is effectiveness of using songs to increase students’ listening ability.

Students had their own uniqueness, no except with their learning style. They may be visual, auditory, or kinesthetic learners. Teacher should find suitable and adaptable method for the students’ modalities. The researcher applied quantum learning design framework in listening class. The researcher wanted to find out the significance difference between applying quantum learning design framework and dictogloss technique. This research used quasi experimental with two groups pre test and post test design. The sample of the research was taken from the ninety six students of tenth grade at MAN 2 Parepare in academic year of 2014/2015. The research took thirty six students in class X 2 and X 3 as the sample. The result of the data analysis showed that there was an improvement of the students’ means score both experimental and control class. However, the students’ means score in experimental class was higher than the students’ in control class. The hypothesis testing showed that the null hypothesis was rejected and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. It indicates the significance difference between the listening ability of the students who were taught through Quantum Learning design framework and the listening ability of the students who were taught through dictogloss technique.Keyword: Quantum, Framework, Listening

English is the one of the international languages which taught and learned in Indonesia as a foreign language. English skills are dividedinto 4 skills that the students need to be mastered. There are speaking, reading, writing, and listening. Listening is an important skill becauseit can make someone knowsomething in English properly. Students have problems when they listen to the native speakers. A bad listening skill of Senior High School students made the researcher took listening skill and then tried the English songs to teach the students to solve the problems they got when they learned listening skill in the class. The research design of this research is experimental research. The population is the tenth grade students of SMAN 2 Samarinda and the sampling technique in this research used simple random sampling. To collect the data the researcher conducted the pre-test and post-test to know about the score of listening test. To analyse the data the researcher used t-test formula. The research objective was to find out whether there waseffective or not for the students who have been taught by using English songs. The researcher used two classes for control class and experiment class. The sample of this research was X Language and Culture and X Social 3 at SMA Negeri 2 Samarinda.The instrument of the research is the listening test, there is fill in the blank test. In analyzing the data, it used repeated measure t-test in which significance level 5% with d.f. = Pairs – 1. The result of the research showed that mean score in pretest of the students’ in experiment class was 52,78 and the mean score of the students’ in control class was 59,89. While the mean score in posttest of the students’ in experiment class 76,17 and the students’ in control class was 54,50. The result also showed that there was a significant difference of the mean score. It had increased about 23,39 in experiment class after treatments. The result of tcount was 24,767 with significant level 5% with d.f. = Pairs – 1.It was found t- table = 2,030.Because of thet-calculated>t-table, so it could be concluded that there was significant. So, the Alternative Hypothesis (Ha) in this research is accepted. In conclusion, it can be said that English songs is effective to teach listening skill.

The purpose of this research is to know whether the pictures in descriptive text can improve students’ reading comprehension or not at the Tenth Grade Students in SMA Negeri 1 Luwuk. The research design in this research was quasi-experimental using non-equivalent control group design. The Independent variable of this research was pictures and the dependent variable was students’ reading comprehension. The Population of this research all students of IPA in SMA Negeri 1 Luwuk of the Tenth Grade were about 216 students, each class consisted of 36 students and the sample of this research were X MIPA 1 and X MIPA 2. The instrument used of this research was test. This research has two classes, experimental class and was control class. The data were taken by giving pre-test and post-test both of classes. The data indicated that, there was a significant difference between students’ pre-test and post-test in the experimental class. The mean score of students’ pre-test of experimental class was (57.02) and the mean score of post-test was (77.97). In experimental class, mean score of post-test was higher than mean score of pre-test. The result of the calculation statistical hypothesis test showed tvalue was higher than ttable (6.618 1.667) where the formula of significance level df = 005. Therefore, it was concluded that there was a significance effect of using pictures to improve student’ reading comprehension in teaching descriptive text at the Tenth Grade of SMA Negeri 1 Luwuk.Keywords: Pictures; Students’ Reading Comprehension; Descriptive text.

Objectives The purpose of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of a climate-ecosystem program reflect-ing an early childhood play-based curriculum on early childhood development (nature), environmental con-servation attitudes, ecological literacy, and early childhood playfulness. Methods The study participants are 5-year-old children from a kindergarten in Gyeonggi Province, with 13 in-dividuals in the experimental group and 15 individuals in the control group. SPSS 23.0 was used to determine the mean, standard deviation, and reliability coefficient of the study variables. The homogeneity test was conducted using the pre-test mean scores between groups, and the difference between the experimental and control groups was analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test based on post-test mean scores. Pre-post differences between the experimental and comparison groups were analyzed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results The main research results are as follows: First, the simple difference between the pre-test and post-test mean scores of the study variables revealed improvement in the experimental group(from 0.13 to 1.02 points), while the comparison group showed both an increase(from 0.01 to 0.36 points) and a decrease(from -0.26 to -0.03 points). There was no statistically significant difference in pretest mean scores between the experimental and comparison groups, confirming homogeneity. The pre-post difference test of the experimental group showed statistically significant differences in early childhood development (nature) and environmental conservation atti-tudes and subscales (conservation attitude, recycling attitude, environmental pollution prevention attitude), eco-logical literacy and subscales (nature's rights, intention to support, resource protection, ecological sensitivity, eco-logical social environment, ecological development_reverse, nature governance_reverse, ecological crisis indif-ference), and early childhood playfulness and some subscales (physical spontaneity, social spontaneity, sense of humor). On the other hand, there were no statistically significant differences in the cognitive spontaneity and ex-pression of pleasure sub-domains of preschoolers' playfulness. The pre-post difference test for the comparison group found statistical significance only for ecological sensitivity, a sub-scale of ecological literacy, and physical spontaneity, a sub-scale of preschoolers' playfulness. Second, the factors that resulted in statistically significant differences in post-hoc mean scores between the experimental and comparison groups were environmental con-servation attitudes and their sub-scales, recycling attitudes, ecological literacy and its sub-scales, supportive in-tention, ecological sensitivity, nature dominance(reverse), and ecological crisis indifference. Conclusions The results of this study confirm the effectiveness of climate and ecosystem programs through play. As an extension of this study, we aim to propose collaborative activities with the local community through a living lab approach.

<p>The purpose of this research is to determine (1) the effectiveness of the use of learning media based on android Arithmetic Digital with discovery-based learning model to learning achievement of computer system grade X of multimedia class at vocational high school 6 Surakarta, (2) the differences in students’ achievement between the control class and experimental class were given the action of using Android learning media with discovery-based learning model. The population of this research is students of grade X of Multimedia class at Vocational high school 6 Surakarta. This study uses an experimental quasi-approach. The techniques of data collection in this study using the test method to determine the results of pretest and post-test. The observation method is to know the difference of student activity of control class and experiment class. Data analysis used was non-parametric test by using Mann Whitney test and Wilcoxon rank test.</p><p>Based on the research, it can be concluded that the Android-based learning media with discovery-based learning model more effective in improving learning achievement compared with the conventional model. This is evidenced by the Wilcoxon sign rank test which gives a result of the significance of 0.000 < 0.005, which means there is a difference in mean values between the two classes. The experimental class got a higher average score that is 84.14 and the control class is 67.59. The result of this research is also reinforced by student gain index analysis, with gain of experimental class that is 0,70 which mean inclination category of high learning achievement while the gain’s improvement of control class is equal to 0,40 which means inclusive category of improvement in learning achievement, this matter because in the model of discovery-based learning able to improve student activeness in learning as well as to develop student's way of learning by finding their own, and self-investigate. And combined with the right learning media such as Android, will increasingly foster student interest in learning.</p>

This research was carried out to find the significant effect of Frayer Model in enhancing students’ vocabulary. The research was taken place in one of private Vocational High School in Garut and it was participated by second grade students. The research employed quantitative methodology by using quasi experimental design. The instrument of the research was test; pretest and post-test. The purposive sampling was used. There were 42 students who participated in the study that was consisted of two groups; experimental with 22 students and control group with 20 students. Prior treatment, a pretest was administered to find out the overview of students’ vocabulary. During the treatment, participants in experimental group were exposed to use Frayer model and in control group they used conventional method; translating word using dictionary and illustration.The researcher found that high school students have problem in mastering and remembering the English After the treatment, post-test was administered to see the improvement gained by the participant. The data obtained from pretest and post-test were analyzed by statistical analysis; SPSS 16.00 and manual calculation. Then, the data were analyzed by using parametric test, t test. The result of the research showed the improvement of experimental group’s post-test mean score that was 80. It was bigger than their pretest mean score that was 42.82. It is also supported by the mean gain score of experimental group that got 0.54. Therefore, there was significant effect on students’ vocabulary by using Frayer Model.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is a difference in students' vocabulary mastery when taught using video and picture. The researcher in this study utilized a variety of videos instead of just focusing on one type, which differentiates it from the previous study. The goal of this study is to compare the students’ learning outcomes who were taught using video and using picture. SMP Negeri 14 Banjarbaru is where this study was conducted. In this study, a quantitative approach and a quasi-experimental design were applied. VIII C was designated as the experimental group, whereas VIII D was designated as the control group. The results of this study revealed that the experimental class's pre-test mean score was 71,1 and their post-test score was 82,6. Meanwhile, the pre-test mean score for students in the control group was 65,1 and the mean post-test score was 65,7. The researcher calculated the data using SPSS 26.0 and discovered that the Mann- Whitney U Test had an Asymptotic.Significance (2-tailed) is 0.04, indicating that it was lesser than 0.05. Therefore, it can be stated that there is a difference between students' vocabulary mastery taught using video and using picture, and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. As a result, it is possible to assume that the use of video as a teaching and learning media at SMP Negeri 14 Banjarbaru gave more effect in terms of students' vocabulary mastery than picture. The researcher advises English teachers to utilize videos into their lesson plans and to combine two or three different types of media to make their lessons more engaging and enjoyable for the students. As for future researchers, the researcher suggested conducting research in the same topic using more advanced and modern audio-visual media and visual media.

Implementing effective strategy to teach reading comprehension is a must in order to overcome students’ obstacles in comprehending text. This study focuses on the effectiveness of Metacognitive Think a Loud Strategy in reading comprehension with different students’ anxiety. This study used quantitative research with a quasi experimental design. The data collection was done by using test and questionnaire to the students and conducted the pre-test and post-test. Then, to measure the data was analysed by using t-test in SPSS. The result of this study was that there was a significant effect of Metacognitive Think a Loud Strategy in teaching reading comprehension. There is a significant different between pre-test and post-test score of experimental class that using Meacognitive Think a Loud Strategy and there is significant different between experimental class and control class. Based on the data, it can be concluded that Metacognitive Think a Loud Strategy is effective in teaching reading comprehension with different students’ anxiety.

This study was a research and development. The media developed employed Ulead software with video player application. The development stage was conducted using Hannafin and Peck’s development and implementation model. The instruments employed in this research were questionnaire and test. The results of interview and observation were analyzed using descriptive qualitative method, while questionnaire and test using descriptive quantitative one. Considering the result of analysis on the effectiveness of archiving simulation video using IBM SPSS 20 software with t-test formula, it could be found that the t-statistic value of posttest was 4.16 for both experiment and control classes with t-table score of 2.00; thus, tstatistic > ttable meaning that the improvement of learning outcome value for experiment class was better than that for control class. The learning outcome for experiment class showed the mean post-test score of 80.28 while that for control class of 70.56. The difference of mean posttest score between experiment and control classes was 9.72 point. The conclusion of research was that the archiving simulation video was feasible and effective to be used to improve the students’ learning outcome.

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of visual media human coordination system to improve students' metacognition and concept mastery in learning with the group investigation model. The research was carried out at SMA Negeri 1 Ungaran for the academic year 2021/2022. The research method used is an experimental research method with quasi-experimental type two group pretest-posttest with control design. Sampling was done by purposive sampling. Class XI MIPA 5 as the experimental group used the visual media human coordination system in learning with the GI model and class XI MIPA 6 as the control group used video and PPT in learning with the GI model. The effectiveness of the visual media human coordination system in learning with the Group Investigation (GI) model to improve metacognition ability was determined from hypothesis testing, there was a significant difference in metacognitive ability between the experimental class and the control class. The effectiveness of the visual media human coordination system in learning with the Group Investigation (GI) model to improve students' conceptual mastery skills is determined by the criteria, 1) Achievement of KKM, 2) Obtaining N-Gain, and 3) There are significant differences in the results of students' concept mastery between the experimental class and control class. The results of the metacognitive ability hypothesis test showed that there was no significant difference in the metacognitive ability of the experimental class and the control class. The results of the concept mastery ability showed that the experimental and control class classical mastery > 75% with the increase in students' classical mastery in the experimental class which was higher than the control class. The results of the N-gain test showed that the students' mastery of concepts in the experimental class had reached the criteria. The results of the hypothesis test showed that there was a significant difference in the mastery of the concept of the experimental class and the control class. The conclusion of this study is that the visual media of the human coordination system ­in learning with the GI model is effective in increasing the ability to master concepts but is not effective in increasing students' metacognitive abilities.

Metacognitive ability and student learning achievement are two things that needed in the learning process, especially on science subject. By using Team Assisted Individualization Method it can improve metacognitive ability and student learning achievement. This research aims to know about the process of appliying the influence of Team Assisted Individuality (TAI) method on science subject in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Hidayatut Thowalib Pare. This research uses quantitative research method of quasi experiment control group design. It uses TAI method in experiment class and conventional in control class. After doing the learning process, metacognitive ability is measured by using questionnaires and learning achievement is measured by using pre'test and postest. The results can be seen from the cumulative average of students’ metacognitive ability of 30 students amount 93.3% in the ekserimental class and 85.1% in the cotrol class. The difference between the experimental and control class is 8.2%. While teh average result of student achievement in the experimental class using TAI Method taken from 30 student is 83.16 and the average result of student achievement in the control class is 77.37. this research uses the validity test and the reliabilty of the questionnaire that amount 20 items and followed by 57 repondents both in the experimental class and the control class. The are 30 student repondents in the experimental class and 27 student repondents in the control class that are valid. This data can be seen with significant level = 0.05 and rtable = 0.36. an item is called to be valid when rcount ≥ rtable. While for the reliabilty of item in the experimental class and in the control class are reliable, with cronbach’s Alpha = 0.731 ≥ 0.70. in this research, normality test distributed normaly because it has asymp. Sign ≥ 0.05 while the result learning of the experimental class has a significant 704 and 432 for the control class. It means that the data is normally distributed. The experimental class consisting of 30 student respondents has the average 9.333 Tcount 5.234 while Ttable 2.045 with significant level of 0.05 or 5%. Based on the data, it can be counclude that Tcount ≥ Ttable. It means Ho is rejected and Ha is accpeted. Based on the explanation above, TAI method has an influence on metacognitive ability and student achievement of grade IV on science subjects in MI Hidayatut Thowalib Tegalsari Pare For Academic year 2017-2018.

This study aims to investigate the implementation of Mind Mapping strategy towards student's writing descriptive at the tenth-grade students of MA Anwarul Hidayah Menes Pandeglang. The study used quantitative approach, while the method used is quasi experimental method with pre-test and post-test design. It used a triangulation of data collection methods involving pre-test, treatment and post-test. The data obtained from 2 classes, they are experiment and control class. The experimental class for this research was XA and the control class was XB. Each class consists of 30 students. The total sample is 60 students. The experimental class’s mean score on the pre-test was 50.23, while the control class’s mean score on the pre-test was 48.57. On the other hand, the post-test result is, the mean score of experimental class was 69.07, while the mean score of control class was 63.33. The hypothesis calculating was done by using SPSS 22. The result obtained from hypothesis test is 0.00 < 0.05 it means that there is significant effect of Mind Mapping strategy towards student's writing descriptive at the tenth-grade students of MA Anwarul Hidayah Ciputri Menes Pandeglang in academic year 2022/2023.

This paper aims at describing whether Englishleap website is effective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery or not. The researcher applied quasi experimental design. The population of this research was the tenth grade students of MA Madani Alauddin Paopao which consisted of 128 students. The researcher took 16 students in experimental class and 16 students in control class. The independent variable of this research was Englishleap website and the dependent variable of this research was Students’ vocabulary mastery. The instrument of this research was a written test used in pre-test and post-test. The result of the data indicated that there was a significant difference between students’ post-test in experimental class and controlled class. The mean score of post-test (91.25) in experimental class was higher than the mean score of post-test (71.87) in controlled class. From t-test, the researcher found that the value of the t-test (3.93) was higher than t-table (2.043) at the level of significance 0.05 with degree of freedom (df)= 32. From the result of the research the researcher concluded that the hypothesis was accepted. It means that using Englishleap website was effective in improving students’ vocabulary mastery at the tenth grade students of MA Madani Alauddin Paopao. Therefore, English teacher may use the Englishleap website in teaching process, because it can make the learning process more enjoyable, fun and effective.

Background: Many menopausal women use complementary therapies to cope with the symptoms and yoga is one among them. The evidence suggesting that even the short-term practice of Yoga can decrease both psychological and physiological risk factors for menopausal symptoms. Objectives: The experimental study assessed the effectiveness of yoga therapy on menopausal symptoms among perimenopausal women. Materials and Method: A menopausal rating scale (10 items) was used to assess the effectiveness of yoga therapy among perimenopausal women. Results: The mean post test score 51.3 in the experimental group were found to be lesser than the mean pre-test scores 70.0. Mean post-test scores 69.3 and mean pre-test stress scores 72.9 in the control group had some variation. In order to find the significant difference, unpaired ‘t’ test was computed for experimental group (‘t’ (49) =25.27; p <0.001) and control group (‘t’ (49) =-7.8; p <0.001). Conclusion: The study concludes by showing that yoga therapy was effective to reduce some menopausal symptoms of women.
