Technopreneurship as an outcomes-based education tool applied in some engineering and computing science programme

The importance of transversal skills for employees who work in the field of computer science is undeniable as transversal skills complement technical computer science skills and play a key role in their professional development and success. It means that while studying at higher educational institutions Computer Engineering and Information Technology undergraduates should have all the opportunities to develop these skills. And the English language classroom is not an exception since English teachers can use a wide range of strategies for developing transversal skills among Computer Engineering and Information Technology undergraduates. The research is aimed at finding out Computer Engineering and Information Technology undergraduates’ points of view on the importance of transversal skills for their future work and identifying effective strategies for their development in the English language classroom. 217 Computer Engineering and Information Technology undergraduates were participants in the research conducted by the team of researchers. To find out Computer Engineering and Information Technology undergraduates’ points of view of the importance of transversal skills for their future work and to identify effective strategies for their developing in the English language classroom, the researchers developed a questionnaire which consisted of close-ended and open-ended questions and items on a 5-Likert scale. The study may contribute to the improvement of Computer Engineering and Information Technology undergraduates’ training by identifying effective strategies for the development of transversal skills in the English language classroom.

This volume contains papers accepted by the 2022 International Conference on Theoretical Physics, Computers and Electronic Engineering (TPCEE 2022), which was held online during December 30-31, 2022 in Toronto, Canada. TPCEE 2022 brought together innovative scholars and industry experts to jointly hold a forum. The main objective of the conference is to promote the research and development activities of theoretical physics, astrophysics, quantum physics, computer engineering, information technology and electronic engineering, and the other objective is to promote the exchange of scientific information among researchers, developers, engineers, students and practitioners around the world.
 Over 200 participants from many countries attended this online conference, which included 4 keynote speeches and 48 oral presentations on different aspects of theoretical physics, computers and electronic engineering in 4 sections. The cutting-edge research works were presented by such renowned keynote speakers. The virtual format of TPCEE 2022 was a success where all the participants gathered on the online platform regardless of the time zone and location and share experiences and research findings in their respective fields.

Introduction In 2004, approximately two million individuals with a bachelor's degree worked in the fastest growing information sciences and technology (IST)-related professions. Projection statistics indicate that occupations in the IT field are currently, and will continue to be, amongst the fastest growing through 2014, with an average projected rate of growth of 43% within an eight year period, resulting in approximately 844 thousand new jobs by 2014 (United States Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2005, pp. 75 & 77) as indicated in Table 1. Despite the dot-com crash and overseas outsourcing, IST employees continue to be in demand. With the leveling-off of the economic boom in the internet and telecommunications industries (Commission of Professionals in Science and Technology, 2003, p. 1), positions in fields such as IT security, telecommunications, electronic commerce, electronic government, and other Internet functions continue to grow. Except for a slight slowdown during 2001-2002, the Internet's growth has been consistently dramatic, which is one factor that supports the employment projections (Schneider, 2006, p. 58). Figure 1 illustrates IT-related professional employment data from 1996 through 2005 and the factors impacting employment. Based on these projections, the demand for skilled workers will increase by an average of 105 thousand per year. Furthermore, as the software and information technology industry continues to mature, the prospects of IST careers will continue to evolve, mutate, and expand (Nathan & Turvey, 2001). In response to the increased demand for educated IST professionals, universities have strived to meet this demand by offering an IST degree program. The IST undergraduate degree has been described as an interdisciplinary program that evolved and integrates curricula from information science, technology, and organizational behavior degree programs that have established accredited criteria. These programs are computer science and information systems, which are accredited by Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) (2005), library and information sciences, which are accredited by the American Library Association, (2002), computer engineering technology and information engineering technology, which are accredited by the Technology Accreditation Commission (TAC) (2005), and business administration, which is accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) (2006) as illustrated in Figure 2: IST Framework and Related Accreditation Organization. [FIGURE 1 OMITTED] [FIGURE 2 OMITTED] Successful organizations utilize similar business structures and methods of operation; however, each may vary in the product and/or service provided to meet a specific market niche and gain a competitive advantage. The same holds true with academic institutions and their degree programs. In D. M. Norris and Morrison's text, Mobilizing For Transformation: How Campuses Are Preparing For The Knowledge Age, they refer to such practices as leveraging the forces for transformation on campus (1997, p. 1). Thus, program structures and methods of operation from similar technical degree programs were used to develop standards for the IST degree program. This study identifies national standards for IST baccalaureate programs in the United States based on the practice of using accreditation criteria from similar disciplines as a model for program development (Burkett, 2002). Thus, the premise of this study is that accreditation criteria used for similar technical disciplines could be applied to the IST discipline with some variations. Therefore, a survey was developed by the researcher based on common program criteria outlined in Appendix A that were gleaned from the accreditation criteria of IST-related degree programs (i.e., AACSB(2006); ALA, (2003); CAC, (2005); TAC, (2005)). NOTE: The first page of text has been automatically extracted and included below in lieu of an abstract Attracting and Retaining Women in Computer Science and Engineering: Evaluating the Results Abstract Computer science and engineering communities have been exploring a variety of activities and techniques to attract and retain more students, especially women and minorities, to computer science and computer engineering degree programs1. This paper briefly describes the efforts and results of a plan for actively recruiting young women into undergraduate computer engineering and computer science programs hosted by the University of North Texas (UNT). It also describes a series of activities aimed at improving the retention rate of students already in our programs, particularly during the freshman year. Such recruitment and retention efforts are critical to the country’s efforts to increase the number of engineering professionals, and are a priority for the Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) Department at UNT. We initially designed a three-part plan to achieve our recruitment and retention goals: • Sponsorship of portable and mobile summer computer engineering robotics camps for middle and high-school women students, coordinating with the regional Girl Scouts councils and other organizations to help with the recruitment; • Creation of an Ambassador program using young women currently enrolled in the upper division of current computer science and computer engineering programs as a form of outreach to area high schools and junior colleges; and • Expansion of our successful undergraduate mentoring program by using the Ambassador cohort mentioned above as mentors for incoming freshman and first-year transfer women entering our programs. This paper will focus primarily on the summer camp program and present an analysis of the results we have seen to date after 2 years of camp activities. Results from student surveys and parent surveys will be presented. The paper concludes with recommended changes and improvements in the program, as well as a discussion of adaptations that would create programs suitable for implementation at other institutions as well as programs aimed at a different target population. The three phases previously enumerated each build upon currently accepted educational practices. The robotics summer camp in particular used problem-based learning approaches, similar to those described in The Power of Problem-Based Learning2. This study clearly demonstrates the significant benefits of teaching students how to think by using a problem-based approach. We also developed a mobile laboratory so that the summer camp can be held at several locations, thus broadening and expanding the reach of the camps to traditionally underserved populations and geographical regions. Similarly, both the ambassador and mentoring programs derive from research showing how the recruitment and retention of women in engineering- related fields can be increased by providing opportunities to develop student-to-student relationships3, 4.

With rapid advancements and popularity of embedded devices in the digital systems market, undergraduate students in various majors, specifically computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering technology, and electrical engineering technology, have shown increased interest in learning more about embedded computing systems. Typically, students accumulate knowledge of computing systems through introductory courses that focus on computer arithmetic, microcontroller-based design and computer organization. This paper presents experiences from teaching and redesigning an advanced embedded systems course that integrates various hardware and software concepts to accommodate the needs of interdisciplinary engineering education.

This chapter examines the use of Open Source Software (OSS) technologies that can be used to improve the learning of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). Explored are the various methods that can be utilized to improve the percentage of STEM majors in the American educational system with resources such as: Open Source as Alternative (OSALT), virtualization, cloud computing, Linux distributions, open source programming, and open source hardware platforms. Increasing the amount of students that pursue STEM majors is important because the projected job growth in the STEM field compared to non-STEM jobs is 33%. OSALT provides cost-effective alternatives to commercial products such as Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe Photoshop. Second, creating Virtual Machines (VMs) is another avenue to teach complex concepts in computer science, engineering, and Information Technology (IT). Third, cloud computing is an inexpensive way for clients to access information from multiple locations and devices. Fourth, universities can use the Operating System (OS) Linux and its various distributions as replacements for commercial operating systems like Windows in order to reduce IT costs. Lastly, open source programming languages like Python and their associated Integrated Development Environments (IDEs) provide comprehensive facilities for software engineers for application development or testing.

Many students choose majors because of joining friends, because of the popularity of majors and other reasons even though the chosen majors are not in accordance with their talents. This research is expected to provide solutions to students regarding the majors they will choose. If this problem can be overcome then it will greatly affect both students and schools, the impact on students will be increased enthusiasm and enthusiasm for learning, for schools the impact will be the development of every department there is because the output produced is competent students because of the knowledge delivered right on target. This research is expected to minimize the mistakes in the selection or determination of student majors by applying the SAW method, can determine what variables determine the accuracy of the majors separation by applying the SAW method. The data tested on this system is the data of Bengkulu 1 Vocational School students as many as 100 student data on the Computer and Information Engineering skills program. he data that is processed in this system is the data of Bengkulu 1 Vocational School students as many as 204 student data on the Computer Engineering and Information Technology expertise program. The method of decision making in the system is the Simple Additive Weighting method. The results of testing this method from 204 test data performed for an accuracy of 94,61%. The high accuracy obtained from testing the data so that this system is very suitable to be used to determine the majors of students of SMKN 1 Kota Bengkulu in the field of Computer and Information Engineering expertise.

This survey makes a review of the most recent applications and trends on fuzzy cognitive maps (FCMs) over the past decade. FCMs are inference networks, using cyclic digraphs, for knowledge representation and reasoning. Over the past decade, FCMs have gained considerable research interest and are widely used to analyze causal complex systems, which have originated from the combination of fuzzy logic and neural networks. FCMs have been applied in diverse application domains, such as computer science, engineering, environmental sciences, behavioral sciences, medicine, business, information systems, and information technology. Their dynamic characteristics and learning capabilities make them essential for a number of tasks such as modeling, analysis, decision making, forecast, etc. Overall, this paper summarizes the current state of knowledge of the topic of FCMs. It creates an understanding of the topic for the reader by discussing the findings presented in recent research papers. A survey on FCM studies concentrated on FCM applications on diverse scientific areas, where the FCMs emerged with a high degree of applicability, has also been done during the past ten years.

It was a great pleasure to welcome all the participants from different countries to the 2021 6th International Symposium on Advances in Electrical, Electronics and Computer Engineering (ISAEECE 2021) in Nanjing, China during March 12-14, 2021. ISAEECE 2021 is to bring together innovative academics and industrial experts in the field of electrical, electronics and computer engineering to a common forum. The primary goal of the conference is to promote research and developmental activities in electrical, electronics and computer engineering and another goal is to promote scientific information interchange between researchers, developers, engineers, students, and practitioners working all around the world. The conference will be held every year to make it an ideal platform for people to share views and experiences in electrical, electronics and computer engineering and related areas.The conference model was divided into two sessions, including oral presentations and keynote speeches. In the first part, some scholars, whose submissions were selected as the excellent papers, were given 15 minutes to perform their oral presentations one by one. Then in the second part, keynote speakers were each allocated 30-45 minutes to hold their speeches. In this conference, we were greatly honor to have invited four outstanding researchers to serve as our Conference Chairman.During the conference, we invited three industry elites to present their insightful speeches. The first keynote speaker, Dr. Sunil Kumar Jha, from Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, China. He presented a speech: Data Fusion Approaches in Human Body Odor Data Mining. The objective of the present research talk is to introduce audience about the data fusion and human body odor and to demonstrate research results related to search for an optimal subset of VOCs in body odor, which can produce differentiation in an individual by using the combination of analytical methods and chemometric analysis. The second keynote speaker, Prof. Chunbo Xiu, from Tiangong University, China. He shared a speech on his specialty related to Memristive Cellular Neural Network & Its Dynamic Characteristic Analysis. He demonstrated that chaotic memristive CNN system can be used in the secure communication by the chaos synchronization based on sliding mode control. Assoc. Prof. Pavel Loskot, from Zhejiang University-University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Institute (ZJUI), our third keynote speakers. He presented a speech: Monte Carlo Simulations Revisited. Their insightful speeches made every participant praised this conference for disseminating useful knowledge.We were glad to share with you that we received lots of submissions from the conference and we selected a bunch of high-quality papers and compiled them into the proceedings after rigorously reviewed them. These papers feature following topics but are not limited to: Electronics Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and other related topics. All the papers have been through rigorous review and process to meet the requirements of International publication standard.We were grateful to the International/National advisory committee, keynote speakers, session chairs, organising committee members, student volunteers and administrative assistance of the management section of University, including accounts section, digital media and publication house.
